"It'll look like paper," Eiran joked without thinking, then snapped his mouth shut. Not again. He needed to establish himself as a confident knowledgeable intellectual who knew what he was doing. That was the impression he'd gotten for how to make change around here. Yet he kept failing to live up to his mental expectations for himself. He considered his next words carefully. "Seriously, though, correct me if I'm wrong please, but it'll be the paper that isn't documented for that section of the archives." Which, of course, could take years to find given the vastness of the sublevels and the vagueness of much of the paperwork. He turned back to Zokora, deciding that even an oddly done, stilted conversation would be okay. More polite in this case. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Eiran Sullivan." He looked at the doors. They seemed to tremble from the wealth of information they contained. But why keep so much knowledge so inaccessible? Were they afraid of it? Could there be a book of streamlined shortcuts down there, just waiting to be found by someone? @Sorana @Emi

Eiran stepped inside, careful not to let the sword scrape the floor tile--damage to guild property required more forms than he had time for to fill out. He'd considered tossing it aside earlier on, but no good moment had arisen. That proved to be the right decision when he saw who else was there. The man no longer was in costume, yet still recognizeable. That sword vendor. He walked up to him, ignoring the fact that the man appeared to be mid-conversation, and dropped the sword at his feet. "Swords are not for kids," he told him sternly before turning away. @Archer A woman seemed apart from conversation, though wanting to join, and he approached her. It would be good to make a decent impression with someone since he'd already conflicted with the sword man twice, not realizing he was a fellow TUBAist. "Hello," Eiran said, adjusting his glasses nervously. It felt great not to have them balancing precariously upon a mask. "Am I late?" @Sorana

Eiran nodded and excused himself then left the bubble. The people inside, Althea, Aln, and Byron, now seemed slower. @Sorana @Rushu42 @Ashbringer That's cadmium's effect, Eiran, he reminded himself. Again, he found himself overwhelmed by the masses. The crushing hordes of people there to celebrate the coming year. He passed the kid he'd seen earlier; he was holding another sword, likely provided by the same seller, though that crazy man was nowhere in sight. Sighing, he knelt down besides the toddler and pried it from his grasp. The thing was heavy, but he dragged it away quickly before the kid began to wail again. The kid's cries reached him. He didn't feel bad. Toddlers weren't supposed to have swords. No one should. Dragging the sword behind him, for he hoped he might encounter the vendor again, Eiran picked his way through the crowd, finally reaching an emptier portion of the street. He let himself breathe in the fresh air then checked a street sign. It wasn't far. He'd get there fairly quickly, even carrying a sword.

Eiran was surprised he hadn't noticed them. He also knew that meant they were safe. Or, at least, he was. They weren't likely to cause him harm. That was good because he also needed to extricate himself. He checked his watch, the motion once again reminding him of the weird feeling he'd felt that morning. It had been a couple of minutes since the code beige. Knowing the amount of paperwork it took to do anything, he still had some time, just not much. "And," Eiran said, speaking up for the first time in a while. He hadn't had anything to say during the conversation regarding Roshar and preferred to listen. "Since I need to get somewhere anyways, we'll be able to judge their intent better. Given that I'll be an easier target, alone and unarmed, if they intend to cause harm, they'll follow me. Should they simply be curious, they will continue to watch the three of you." He smiled. "All right?"

And now someone was suspicious of him. Eiran really needed to find better ways to show his innocence. He shrugged at the woman. "I had a feeling and Althea spotted the physical signs of it looking off from an ordinary van." Yes, there was definitely no way she would buy that vague half-lie, but it was better to be seen as a liar than reveal the truth. The truth was too dangerous and could too easily lead to several unpleasant situations for himself and the world. And she was the head of the Scholar's Guild. If she knew what he contained inside his head, it was possible she'd never let him out of her sight. Which would be unfortunate since he was rather liking the feeling of being on his own. Eiran paused. Just because he needed to lie on one point, didn't mean he couldn't even try to make himself out to be a half decent person. "I'm Eiran Sullivan and I do apologize if at any point I have come off as aloof or suspicious," he said earnestly, adjusting his glasses. "It's been a long day."

Hi. Most things here are the same as previous eras. Besides from fixing a couple typos and word choice (and sticking the long slog of a backstory in a spoiler), the biggest change really is the added Investiture, which I don't think will be enough to throw her over (though, anything is possible). Let me know if any adjustments are necessary for her to be approved. Eve Tacet-Yin-Dove:

Eiran glanced up. The guy who'd taken a tumble was looking at him and his white-haired friend. Were they friends? Sort of. Friends that would likely never encounter one another again and who didn't know each others' names. Then, he supposed, not really friends. The term he'd been using previously, acquaintance, fit better. He considered the man's question. "I don't mean to be rude, but who exactly are you?" Given that this was a stranger and they were currently attending a masked festival, his name didn't seem like a great thing to hand out. Not that this man seemed like the type to later hunt him down and kill him. No. It just didn't feel right--like it would ruin the mood. Instead he countered with a question that left him wondering if it sounded to cryptic. "Does it matter?" It really was how he felt. What did it matter who they were? Should that change anything? If a murderer gave a crying kid a treat (not a sword) to get them to stop crying, did it make a difference that they'd killed three people the previous day? Was their "good" action now any less "good"? Why might people even think that could be the case? Why, what, why, why, how, was, who, why, should, which, why, why, why. His brain could go around like that all day, analyzing a topic until it was so thoroughly mutilated he didn't know where it started, if he didn't stop it early. He stopped it then. He already had enough to focus on, enough thoughts clouding his head. Enough distractions from the real reason he'd even come to the city in the first place. Enough diversions from his true cause.
