You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Reckless Reader replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you see the article about the HoA leatherbound on Brandon's website and immediately look on Amazon to see if there are any for other books. I found one, but it was $50 (Fifty Dollars) and my practical side had a brief but bloody wrestling match with my artistic side that went something like this: Me: IT'S RUSTING GORGEOUS Me @ myself: IT'S FIFTY DOLLARS Me: BUT IT'S SOOOO PRETTY Me @ myself: but it's what's inside that counts, right? Me @ myself: ...Right? Me @ myself: ... Me @ myself: oh wow that's beautiful I decided I couldn't get it because a ) i don't have the money and b ) I don't have an Amazon account anyway so it never mattered in the first place. Edit: @Ookla the boombox (Spent a while trying to insert a quote in an edit but the site doesn't seem to be able to do it) The stars don't show up on any camera I have; I can't get the exposure time long enough... sorry... Last thing: My school book club did a discussion of Elantris!!!!! Here were the notes: (Caution: contains spoilers) -

Is there such thing as an eww-vote? I don't wanna judge, but... YKYASF when you put glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling... in the constellations from Arcanum Unbounded. (It was a complicated process that consisted of much Tack-It and string to make a proper enlarging grid. It looks great, though.) When Firefly reminds you a little of MB era 2. When you freak out a little (not) when you find out someone has read Way of Kings. My school suffers from a distinct lack of Sanderfans. -
Things the black spheres definitely are

The black sphere is everything Firefly COULD HAVE BEEN *glares at nothing in particular* (I'm sorry, I just finished it and I'm frustrated) -

YKASF when you make your Kahoot nickname "Willshaper". (For those of you who haven't played Kahoot, it's an online review game where you get to pick your own nicknames.) Also, there's a guy in my band who has mostly black hair... with streaks of blond. And he wears glasses. I swear, if Renarin played bass clarinet, I would freak out every time I saw this guy. Also, I'm taking a class where we get to cast rings, and mine's gonna have the Willshaper glyph on it. -

So I found this a while ago and it's amAzing! https://www.behance.net/gallery/41884613/Mistborn-Luthadel-Wall-Animatic No big spoilers, but you'll probably only enjoy it if you've read Mistborn. -

Not any cosmere books??? Also, I've been trying to get my mom to read Harry Potter for so long. Book 1 has been sitting on her nightstand for a year. Edit: I just ran across this picture: (I dunno where it'll insert) and I remember I first saw it before reading SA and thought it was actual, legitimate gibberish. And then afterwards, I don't even think about the fact that these are not words that are usually in the English language. -

When you refresh the library website every five minutes to see if your hold on TFE is any closer to being ready. Seriously. It's a problem. -
Elhokar (spoilers for oathbringer)
Reckless Reader replied to sonoskay's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, you're right... Maybe he's just a big, mixed-up Sliver. (Can Slivers have names like that?) For Cultivation, I was thinking that the Nightwatcher's gift counted as Investiture, and we know Odium was at the very least little-i invested in Dalinar's fate. -

I think that whole scene was just surreal. We had Kaladin being torn up about his friends dying (again, poor guy), then him seeing Mosah, his former friend, doing some of the killing, and simultaneously, we have Moash being torn up about his friends dying (I'm not saying I like Moash, but seriously, that was sad), then we suddenly have the king dying, after almost being able to survive. I think it's just a really good perspective on war, with a bird's eye view of how each side feels. On a different note, thinking about the "I am Unity" part, has anyone considered if it's possible to create an entirely new Shard from bits of the others? I mean, Dalinar is pretty heavily Invested by all three of the Rosharian Shards, and it's not too hard to imagine that a combination of Honor, Cultivation, and Odium could create Unity. -

I'm confused... Is there some dress-up holiday in February that I'm unaware of? More importantly, do I get an excuse to dress up again in February? -

In the books they didn't. So I guess if you live in a warm place, you can have a truly authentic Mistborn costume. -

I can't believe I didn't attach any significance to the fact that I'm sixteen right now... Wow. Perfect year to do this. And... yeah. I live in Seattle. It's cold. And probably wet. Shoes? Good idea. -

I would just like to point out that there's no such thing as a "woman who became transgender". Trans people have always been one gender, they just thought otherwise for the first part of their life. That said, I do like the idea of Jesus being trans. -

When this excites you way more than it should. Yes, I'm taking materials science. No, I didn't do it only because of Mistborn. Yes, I do enjoy it much more thanks to Mistborn. -
You know, this brings up a strange and convoluted point that's been spinning around my head for a while now. In Stormlight, some of the dialect and language is very world-specific. Sometimes there's a mention of a letter or sound that is clearly part of the Alethi or Thaylen alphabet, but it's English-ized in the actual word or context. Like, at some point, I'm pretty sure Hoid used the word "coin" in the Stormlight Archive, which would be utterly untranslateable in Alethi, since they don't have, and never have had, coins. It led me to think that maybe it's always best to read things in their original language, so as to appreciate the nuances of whatever specific words or grammar it contains. Then I remembered that this is not Tolkien and I can't learn seven Cosmere languages because they don't exist. TL;DR: I go way too deep into the worldbuilding. In regards to the actual topic, I'm fine with American spellings in American-published books, but it bugs me if books originally published in the UK have American spellings.

When you make a mistcloak for Halloween. Seriously, I am so hyped for this. It has embroidery on it, and I'm going all-out with making metal vials, a coin pouch, everything. I am going to be wearing shoes though... -

I had to get a whole new bookshelf last year to accommodate my collection. I tend to buy books that I don't want to wait for at the library. ...And I also use the shelves above my desk for books... ...and my nightstand has like a half dozen... You get the idea. -

First of all, "for the first time"? Congrats and welcome to the wonderful world of More-Worldbuilding-Than-Sanderson. It's not a place you commonly come across. Second of all, what parallels did you find? -

Ha ha! Okay, so my school has this live stream news thing where they sometimes interview teachers, and today one of the teachers said, "Well, I wanted to be a lawyer, but I realized I was more interested in justice than the law." I can't decide whether she's a failed Skybreaker or a Skybreaker of the Fifth Ideal!
