I'm just running through the first post (the list itself) and think I found one question answered: Could Nightblood be fueled by other forms of Investiture, like Stormlight? Answer: This one: Have we seen any kandra outside of Scadrial? is kind of answered, too: source as is this: How many parties were there to the Oathpact? source I'd think if others see already answered questions it would be helpful to add those too.

I haven't known this too, so I searched for that WoB: source on topic: The first "blurb" says: From how I understand Syl the spren were not abandoned by the Heralds. The Heralds were not bound to spren. Thus I think it has not been written by spren (or The Ring). My guess are the Envisagers so I can give no evidence (only the feeling that there are some of them alive yet).

My guess is: There were two beads of lerasium before Hoid arrived. We know that Hoid got one bead of lerasium. And Vin took one to save Elend. Unfortunately I've found no evidence on the question how many beads of lerasium existed in the first place.

I dare throw in some thoughts on this, though I'm not sure I can express what I want to tell. And, as well, I would not claim if I understood your problem right, Outis. I think the main point is that the wall or window, that should be changed, itself is not in any way sentient (neither sapient). It's view of itself depends on how it's perceived by their contemplators (for more easy phrasing: people), who are themselves sapient and sentient. So the wall adepts how it's seen by people. Nightblood is himself (IIRC) gained sentience (I don't remember at the moment if one could say he's sapient, too). But his "memories" and sentience are not really his own, they were given to him, though Vasher told us that Nightblood made progress. He doesn't really have a conscience nor an own sense of morality. He just "regurgitates" what was told to him when he was made. And though he was "taught" to destroy evil, he wasn't told exactly, what this "evil" is. Thus he struggles about what "is evil". He can't get an experience about being evil himself, because he's not viewed as evil. As a result I'd say he lacks the "mental" experience and possibility to know what "is evil" because of how he was made and what he is now. Is this understandable? Please apologize if not; if asked I'll try to explain my thoughts further.

I like Moogle's idea. As for knowing or not knowing who of the fellow Heralds died in the battle: Your reasoning seems contradicting itself. Why should Taln's location have been known but Kalak's not, as both had been part of a possible planning? The second sentence (One of the Heralds ...) seems much more likely. But the third is -- again -- contradicting. If such a thing would happen, then why for Taln and not for Kalak too, which would mean -- because he didn't die -- that the other eight Heralds should have known that Kalak survived. I'm curious if (and when) we get a solution to Moogle's theory.

I'm a bit confused: there are new postings to be found in the TWG Archive. I assume it's Spam so I didn't read either of them. I thought posting isn't possible there. Just an observation.

What do you mean with this sentence?

A critical view of morality in Words of Radiance
Meg replied to Sasukerinnegan's topic in Stormlight Archive
Agree! Not only are there different legislative powers that make different laws on the same subject in the same country (i. e. national laws, laws of the (federal) states, laws and bylaws in municipalities etc.). Also the statutorily regulated executive might not be done in the same way in every part of a country. More so does this hold for different countries. This is correct. And -- as a side note -- the simple desire of parts of a country for changing a law isn't that easy done. It's not that some people petition to their government to change a law and this happens. Not in our world and not in the Cosmere. Agree! As for Nalan I have two remarks: 1. I'm not sure yet that each and every Skybreaker is that extremely focused as Nalan himself is. I still don't see, why Ym had to die. What if what he said (that he didn't know about the assassination attempt and had only been the messenger) was true? Is a death sentence then justified? 2. I haven't understood Nalan's place in the legal system yet. He acts as police. So far so good. But having caught the potential criminal he immediately carried out the sentence. But: Who made this sentence? Apparently there exist trials on Roshar. Is Nalan police, judge and executioner in one person? Hopefully he's not the "typical" Skybreaker, for neither in a world like Roshar such a system should be established. And: Okay, Ym is a surgebinder, but only in Lift's case Nalan said it's about preventing a coming desolation by making surgebinders disappear (namely: kill them). -
Honestly: I can't come up with a decision whether to believe she's death or not. Viewed objectively I think she must have died even with Shardplate and Stormform. Being immune to a Highstorm isn't the same as surviving in a chasm after falling a few hundred feet to its bottom (I think the Shardplate could eventually lessen the damage but would be destroyed then), especially with the two storms coming from opposite directions and hitting each other "exactly" where she fell. The water currents must be immense; wouldn't she be tossed around and drowning? That we were shown no corpse might not really be a hint at her surviving. On the other hand we don't really know about her abilities. Though I can't decide I feel that Eshonai being dead would be "right." I can't describe that better. It's my gut feeling.

That's an obvious interpretation and more likely to be correct than mine.

I'm still sure Stormlight (in gems?) can be preserved. What else would this line mean: (WoR, Chapter 87, p. 1048 Gollancz edition) How to ration lanterns seems evident: don't lighten them. But why would they need to ration gemstones, if they could not be stored in a way they don't loose Stormlight (more than not stored or sheltered). I think the whole thought of rationing gemstones and lanterns implies that my idea isn't that unrealistic.

At first I admit that I didn't read the answers (I still mostly avoid reading through the threads before coming up myself with one or another idea and sharing it). Though it was said before that not every character would survive untill their book will come I never believed Jasnah really dead from that incident on the ship. May be I'm naive but my gut told me, she is to capable of surving to have died there. I mean, she's apparently a Soulcaster, an upcoming Knight Radiant. And she was more experienced with Shadesmar than Shallan. So my guess is that she used her powers to escape in a slightly similar way as Shallan did, though she seems to have been struck somewhere else. I'm glad she returned and I hope we'll see more of her in the next book (and less Shallan ).

OK. Shallan is one KR step ahead of Kaladen per WoB

Would anybody be so kind and quote that WoB (with source) for me? I really lost track unfortunately. -
Brandon already said that Demoux is on Roshar: source

Thanks! This, too, but it's not helpful for my idea.

1) I don't think Dominion and Devotion could be reassembled, as for they are splintered. Trying to "mix/combine" them to get a result like Harmony, will not work either, because Ruin and Preservation weren's splintered when this happened. I'd call it Ruin and Preservation were free (lacking a person holding them), so Sazed was able to pick them up both. 2) If I understand some things in WoR right, I think gems can hold Stormlight longer if sheltered (in the dark) (for example the gems Shallan found in Tyn's trunk or the ones Lirin kept). Those gems would run out eventually, too, but I could see there are possibilities to make them hold the Stormlight longer. I might be wrong, though.

The idea that Nohadon == Jezrien doesn't seem likely to me. Nohadon said to Karm (aka Dalinar): "The Heralds" ... not the other Heralds or my fellow Heralds. That quote is, too, from the vision where the quotes from the OP come from. And I think my quote is contary to the idea of the OP.

Got it, too. <img data-cke-saved-src="http://www.17thshard.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.png" src="http://www.17thshard.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.png" class="bbc_emoticon" title=":(" />

Sanderson's female protagonists all act the same?
Meg replied to kogs's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Interesting topic. Kind of, I'm a bit disappointed to find some of the female characters make me feel to many similarities. I wouldn't in any way say that Shallan and Sarene are comparable, other than Vin, Lift, and Shallan, who kind of seem to follow the same path. You see, my comparisons are based on other aspects than witty comments. And there are Siri, Vivenna, Jasnah, and Navani. None of them fit in the "witty" nor in (my) development category. All in all I don't see that "all" female protagonists act, develop or talk the same way. There are enough individual aspects. -
I don't know in mind now, but is in any book a character named after or dedicated to Peter?
-
Yes, sorry, I've missed this part and now see, where it comes from. Being stubborn I'll stay with my interpretation despite that quote . Thanks for hinting me at it.

That certainly leaves room for the Radiants being added later, and possibly a reason why the Oathpact isn't as broken as the Heralds assumed. I thought they just didn't know the ins and outs of the contract, but it could be the Radiant Rider tacked on as an addendum that they overlooked. This has been a good question and I'm kind of surprised, Brandon answered it . Now we know who made up the Oathpact: Honor and the Heralds. No Odium, no Cultivation, as was theorized a lot. A question: Why do you speak of the oathpact and the Oathpact? In my understanding there has only been one: The Oathpact. The thing of the Knights Radiant wasn't an oathpact nor related to "the Oathpact." Yes, the Knights Radiant had to make oaths to proceed, and those oaths might derive from the Heralds' tasks. But mixing the Ideals of the Knights Radiant with the Oathpact seems a bit wrong to me.

Maybe Windy can help (I asked him for the source in this thread, but got no answer). It's not that I don't believe you (or Joe or Windy) but I love to have a source. That there are different pronounciations is not the evidence because it seems naturally to me that different people may pronounce the same words not in the same way. I'm quite sure there's a WoB saying that the languages in the cosmere derive from one source, thus some similaries. Unfortunately I can't find the quote. Even after searching for the most part of an hour I only found this: (emphazises mine) PS @Weiry: May I ask for the source of this Ati =|= (Seon) Ati WoB? Thanks in advance.

I just wanted to jump in and tell you that I got WoR yesterday (though it's the Gollanz edition -- I miss the front- and endpages ). I started reading yesterday evening (skimming the yet known chapters) and will stay away from the forums until I've finished (at least) my first read-through. I put the post here because I avoid the WoR-subforum.
