There's a new reading from one of Brandon's signings in Germany. Haven't seen it on the shard by now, so here it is: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/388/#e12676 I am excited. And even more sorry that I missed him in Munich

Child of Tanavast / Child of Honor --> now with WoB
equinox replied to Winds Alight's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't do FB/Twitter. But thanks for mentioning the "events and signing" section. I haven't ever checked that one before, but I will do so from now on. Regarding the implications of "Child of Tanavast", I'm confident, Brandon Sanderson will come up with something much more intriguing than the descendant story. Though, my brain won't come up with an idea right now. Ah... Can't wait for RoW -
Could a shard mess with the dor
equinox replied to twenty second of the sun's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Would it get more difficult or easier to hold more Shards together? Sazed has some problems holding two of them. But having Dominion and Devotion might even help to balance Ruin and Preservation... -
Child of Tanavast / Child of Honor --> now with WoB
equinox replied to Winds Alight's topic in Stormlight Archive
Now that I think about it, I really hope Kaladin is not a direct descendant from Tanavast. I would prefer a more metaphorical meaning as I do not care much for the "special person is a secret/hidden descendant from another special character" thing. But it's really great you got to ask this question @Winds Alight. Only.. Now, I want to know more about it! -
Child of Tanavast / Child of Honor --> now with WoB
equinox replied to Winds Alight's topic in Stormlight Archive
Brandon was in Stuttgart? Why didn't I know this? Btw. I think it's never a waste of time to think about such things. I love theorizing, even if the resulting theories are shot down by WoB or the next book... -
When/why did the first Sprenbonds return after the Recreance?
equinox replied to equinox's question in Cosmere Q&A
I got the impression that the Skybreakers did not hunt Radiants the whole time... From Edgedancer ch. 9: Thanks though for your answer. I wish we knew more about Spren societies and their motivations. -
When/why did the first Sprenbonds return after the Recreance?
equinox posted a question in Cosmere Q&A
Disregarding the Skybreakers, we know that Jasnah was a proto-Radiant the night Gavilar died. Shallan probably knew Pattern even before that. And Gavilar himself was on the Bondsmith-path receiving visions. Do we know of any earlier Bonds? Anyways.. Honor "died" centuries before all that. Taln returned from Braize much later. So what triggered the new rise of Radiancy during these past few years? -
The Heralds could sense and find each other in Way of Kings Prime. To be more precise, they could find the other Honorblades. But this mechanism doesn't work in current SA (WoB). However, they seem to feel Jezrien's death, so there must be some connection among them. I guess..

I like "The Spren of spren". Would also fit the notion that the Sibling is of Honor and Cultivation. I hope, we find more about him in the next book. I am sure we will learn about the Singers' backstory and get some clarification on the Eila Stele... Can't wait for RoW.

What I never get with this line is, why it does refer to spren in a very general way (this would be the Sibling) and then very specifically to two additional spren of stone (Nightwatcher) and wind (Stormdaddy). English is not my native language and I don't know if there is WoB about it, but do we know this line really refers to three distinct entities. Or could it be read as "our gods the two spren that are - to be more specific - stone and wind"? But I agree with you @Ruti, there is more to the story than meets the eye.

I can only remember hold playing a - according to Kaladin - strange instrument with strings made of polished wood. No detailed descriptions in there. I can't remember if Hoid played an instrument when he met Taln at the gates of Kholinar and I don't have the book with me to check. The other times I remember him playing music was with a flute.. But there is fanart that shows Hoid with a guitarlike instrument: https://stormlightarchive.fandom.com/wiki/Hoid

Do Adolin and Renarin know the truth?
equinox replied to Kelsier'sGodComplex's topic in Stormlight Archive
Why do you think that? Evi's death was not murder. Not directly at least and not committed by Dalinar. What happened to the civilians at the Rift is known to many people. They told the lie about Evi's assassination so that nobody gets to know that she met Tanalan on her own - and to ease the consciences of the soldiers. Burning a city in retribution for murder is not much different from burning a city for rebellion. I don't think the laws would have been a problem for Dalinar. But the lie is a better story for the soldiers as well as for Gavilar's followers in general. Edit: @Oltux72 beat me to the answer -
Honor’s reaction to the Heralds breaking the Oathpact
equinox replied to Quazzi's topic in Stormlight Archive
We don't know exactly how the Oathpact works. According to WoBs, the Oathpact is not completely broken and the Heralds still have a connection to it. But the question is a good one. Even if the basic idea to send Taln back alone was not a bad one, the other nine Heralds did nothing to help humankind to prepare on the meantime. Instead they told them that they won and that the cycle of Desolations is over. Clearly, they omitted the truth. How could Honor let them live on for thousands of years in this way? Maybe it's due to the specific wording of the Oathpact and the fact that the Heralds didn't fully break the pact? -
Thank you, @StrikerEZ and @Invocation for helping to reduce my confusion

How is Skyward Related to Sanderson's Other Works?
equinox replied to Firebolt-101's topic in Cytoverse
As you say yourself, Skyward (and any other Brandon Sanderson books that feature Earth) is not part of the Cosmere. Humans in the Cosmere have no linkage to Earth as Earth does not exist in this universe (or is too far away in another galaxy to allow exchange - I am not sure how it works exactly). However, the similarities you highlight are interesting. And I am looking forward to seeing how leaving their home planet and dealing with alien lifeforms will play out for humankind in both worlds. -
As I don't want to open a new topic and this one is about Shardplate anyway, I post my question here. I hope this is OK. There's a new WoB about Shardplate: Why is this question RAFOed? I thought it was clear by now that Shardplate is related to the fourth Oath. Any ideas?

I really like your analytical approach to the topic! Just to nitpick: Your description of the three TWoK plotline does not fully align with Brandon's description. Don't know whether this would influence your analysis...

Yes. Of course. But why doesn't Odium just create more Fused? There must be a reason. The loss of Investiture doesn't hurt him much (like Earth isn't smaller if you throw a handful dirt into space). But somehow Odium wants to limit the amount of Investiture that is bound to Roshar. Thus, killing Fused with Nightblood doesn't hurt much, but may allow Odium to create new ones. Better to capture them somehow is what I mean...
-
@Turin Turambar It's not necessary to get rid of all Singers or species that are related to them. The Fused as Cognitive Shadows are a different thing though. They are ancient, they are basically killing machines, some of them are batsh*t crazy and they even murder their own kind to get access to bodies (even if the prior owners of these bodies give them up willingly, they did not know what they are getting into as we see in the one Venli POV). Humans could make peace with Singers/Listeners, but Fused will never agree to that.

I agree with many here in this thread regarding Amaram's character analysis. His actions are totally plausible considering is personality. And that's exactly the problem. We need this character analysis to fill the whole Galendo's post shows. I don't think that Amaram's position is as good as Galendo describes it, but still Amaram's turn came quite out of nowhere in my firs read of OB. On a reread I can recognize signs, but only after thinking more about Amaram's personality.

So killing Fused with Nightblood would decrease how much Odium is bound to the Rosharan system. Even if he loses some of his Investiture. Of course, he would also lose able fighters. But many of them are mad anyways. I always wonder, why he doesn't exchange these. He said he could easily take back what was given, but I am not sure this is true. Maybe this would break an oath he made with the Fused. Or maybe the sane Fused would not like to see that and then consider stopping fighting. Killing Fused - even with Nightblood - is not a solution. And I also don't think it is justice. Odium is the real enemy. He has to be dealt with, so that all living beings on Roshar can exist peacefully.
-
As a side question: What happens to Odium's Investiture when a Fused is killed by Nightblood? Is it taken away from Odium? Does it lessen/weaken his bond to the Rosharan system (is he less Invested as when he would take back the power)?
-
Thanks @Calderis. I still don't get how Odium's "prison" works. He is clearly less restricted as a certain other Shard from another series was, but I always imagined his influence is limited. So I guess these limitations rather result from the fact that Odium did not create Roshar and its inhabitants. And of course, he has the Unmade. Could one of them access the Spiritual Realm to investigate the murder? As murder investigations go, the Alethi have a lot to learn anyway. Adolin was never identified though Sadeas' murder was an unplanned close contact kill without using any magic at all.
-
Is Odium able to say goodbye to the cognitive remnants of Rosharans? He manifested visibly on Roshar, even though he is bound to Braize...
