You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Philomath replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
YKYASW you wonder if the teacher was making a joke or also alluding to Oathbringer when all Dalinar takes to confront Odium is a book and Lift makes fun of him for it. -
Okay. Just popping in to say this might be my new favorite MCU Disney+ show. Loved it. I feel like it’s one I can show my kids. It was just so fun and good. And it is because the characters were amazing. The superhero stuff was honestly only okay, but the relationships and cultural stuff. Oh just so good.

That seems to make the most “sense” to me. Also my sister just sent me this meme about the movie and I thought it was super funny.

I enjoyed this movie. The first Dr Strange was not actually my favorite so I liked this one better. But that really is just me. I thought it was well done. I had heard that this was going to be more of a horror film and I was nervous about it since that is a genre I don’t like at all. But it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Definitely elements of it, but it was manageable for me. So here’s some of my thoughts on Wanda. And some of my thoughts on some foreshadowing elements and character arcs in the movie. Overall it was a good movie for me. I am still struggling to grasp a little bit after this how (Loki spoilers)

Okay first off spoilers for Moon Knight here. (In tags of course.) I just finished the series though and it made me rethink some things about Shallan.

Okay. I am satisfied with that ending. Wrapped what seemed to be the main story up pretty nicely, told us just a bit more to bait us for what is next. I still have a few questions. As a non comics reader, here are some more of my thoughts. Editing to add that I’m going to create a thread in the Stormlight section on some thoughts I had about this story and some characters in that story. If anyone cares to go check that out.

I’ve been enjoying it. Definitely hoping we meet the third persona that seems to be foreshadowed. I know nothing about this character so it has been really interesting for me. The thing that kind of blows my mind is that the Egyptian gods are MCU canon. I mean so are the Norse ones with Thor, but they have more of an explanation. What are they!? Though I did like the Black Panther reference this episode. I’m also definitely curious about Khonshu and his intentions. Seems like no one likes him much, but he seems better than Ammit…

Secret Project Sample Chapters: Yay or Nay?
Philomath replied to nerpspren's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yeah. I think I’m going to keep waiting. There is a degree of excitement about the surprise too. Though I definitely am kind of bummed that there are hours of content on Brandon’s YouTube and Shardcast that I can’t listen to yet. I need things to listen to people! Ha ha. -
Secret Project Sample Chapters: Yay or Nay?
Philomath replied to nerpspren's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well I was going to try to stay away from spoilers. Still haven’t seen any yet. But since Brandon had to go release the storming Stormlight 5 prologue and I couldn’t resist that, I’m now wondering why I am waiting for the secret projects which come out sooner… -
Do these WoBs have spoilers for the secret projects? I’m currently still trying to avoid those. We’ll see how long it lasts.

Couple more ideas Scadrian Area has 2 design ideas. A keep or two from Era 1 Luthadel and/or Era 2 mini New Seran with the waterfalls. Maybe a sky tram ride thing across the park starting there. I’m pretty sure they had those in New Seran to get up the different levels. Instead of Hidden Mickeys all over the park it is Hidden Hoid. And some food stands have instant noodles. You know how I’m Disneyland they have those opportunities for kids to fight Darth Vader with lightsabers? You could come up with something like that with Shardblades maybe?
-
Yeah I can see something like this working. Basically little pods with a computer screen or something?
-
Shouldn’t be surprised this already existed once. Ha ha. Okay. Here’s what I have so far. I am also including some non cosmere areas and modeling things more off Disneyland vs a real roller coaster thrill park. (I may try to do a super simple low skill map at some point. I’m just feeling extra nerdy today.) Roshar area: Lunamor’s Restaurant: Menu includes sections for Vorins him and her and Rock’s menu. Rollercoaster called Windrunner. Can be either indoor like Space Mountain with visuals like flying through a high storm or just a classic outdoor roller coaster. I love the idea of Adolin’s fashion shop. Small chouta stands are around. Scadrial Area: Ride in the style of Pirates of the Caribbean featuring Spook and the canals in Urteau. (I know they weren’t filled until the end, but maybe that could be included in the ride somehow still.) A drop style ride (Tower of terror/Guardians) relating to steel pushing/pulling. Is it correct that waffles are a Scadrian thing? If so, then either a restaurant serving waffles among other things or just loosely based waffle cones and ice cream. Nalthis Area: This one I don’t have good ride ideas yet. But the area is going to be so decorated and colorful. Colored banners and stuff everywhere. Food will include seafood restaurants and dessert shops for Siri and Susebron. Shops will feature art. Maybe this area doesn’t have ride attractions, but artists working like would come in the Court of Gods. Sel Area: (I’m struggling with this one so far) Kiin’s Kitchen Maybe a Soarin’ over California style ride that soars over Sel and points out the important landmarks that make up the important lines for the magic system. Shops include customizable Soul stamps. Skyward Area: Spaceship blaster ride Nowhere Islands either as a playground/climbing area for all ages or as an Indiana Jones style ride. Taynix Slug plushies are a must. Reckoners Area: Area design includes 3 styles: things looking like steel, Babilar style glow in the dark spray paint, and carved from salt crystals. (Signs are posted around the steel areas asking allomancers to please get their steel somewhere else.) Maybe a Splash Mountain style ride in a Babilar/Regalia theme.

Alright. Here we go. Time to brainstorm ideas for a Sanderson Theme Park. Names? Rides? Food? Atmosphere? Go!

Brandon's announcement video tomorrow

Chouta stands and a place for instant noodles. Waffles from Scadrial. A Nalthian dessert and/or seafood place. A Rosharan one called “Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor‘s.” You can choose Rock’s menu or Vorin his and hers menus. Do we need a separate thread discussing Sanderson theme park ideas? Because that would honestly be amazing. Ha ha. -
My joke theory for the 4th one after listening to you guys discuss. It will be epistolary with Nazh writing letters to Khriss. She has sent him to check out some things on Ashyn and he gets sick. Is the plan for Ashyn supposed to be magic you get when you get sick still? I hope so because I think it would be funny if that is the case. So Nazh is complaining to her about being sick, but also gets roped into doing things because he has magic now. And some of the “letters” can also be medical charts. “Patient presented with ‘x’ symptoms. Diagnosed with ‘y.’ Oh and now patient can fly.”

So I am not very versed in Star Wars lore so I’m wondering if both our duelists in this episode have And then the cosmere fan in me said

I’ll have to check out the Kenobi book sometime. I also liked them in the Mandalorian too.

I don’t hate it and I don’t love it. I may be the odd one out here, but I loved everything with the Tusken Raiders. Fleshing then out as a culture instead of just random group always causing trouble on Tatooine was really interesting to me. Honestly there were a lot of parallels between them and Indigenous people that my husband and I found interesting. And while I enjoyed all of that part, it did make the present day stuff slower. Hopefully the last few episodes pick up the pace on that front.

It’s possible that the knowledge was lost even then. That was during the second human war right?
-
Yeah. I didn’t love that 100% in the movie because she is clearly terrible at keeping secrets. But the one discussion I’ve mentioned and a few others I’ve seen addressed it in a way I find satisfactory now. Basically she probably tried mentioning it as a kid right after he left but “We don’t talk about Bruno” and she got shut down and dismissed every time she brought it up so she just let it go.

Dolores needs Spook’s advice about how to focus on what is important and time everything else out. I just saw a really cool idea that Dolores knew Bruno was still in the house the whole time and I really liked it. It’s by someone named Wilbert Cordel Kizer Moore and they have some awesome takes on the whole movie.

I’ve been thinking more about all the characters from this movie and one interesting idea came up about Camilo. Given all of them seem to have some issues related to their gift, I wonder if he has a really big struggle with his sense of self. Like he can shapeshift and be anyone and is constantly asked to become someone else to get a job done. How do you learn about who you are when you aren’t allowed to really just be that person?

So I thought of another way this show was successful. I genuinely had no interest in ever reading the series again. But here I am listening to Eye of the World again. And I can’t be the only person either experiencing it again unexpectedly or picking it up for the first time. (Now do I have hesitations about reading it again, yes. I’m hoping the things I liked better about the show don’t make me dislike the books more. And maybe knowing how things generally go and play out will help me be more patient with certain characters and storylines. I suppose only time will tell. Perhaps this turning of the wheel for me will leave a better impression.)
