Yes, Marie thought, not speaking. Steelsight was one thing, only having half of it was another. Her own sight flicked around the room, gauging reactions. These people, with all their different religions and cultures and silly beliefs. They wouldn't have to worry about such revelations if they only paid heed to one god at a time. She scowled at the assassin lying on the floor: she didn't mind being used as a threat, but only if she actually got something out of it. Being held as a gun to someone's head was palatable enough...if she was then allowed to go off already. "What are you going to do with him?"

    Marie seethed at her silently for a moment, then sheathed her blades and leaned against the bar.

    Marie surveyed the room, hands clenched around knives. Could she get away with a death? She began moving stealthily toward the older man who had knocked her chair down, one dagger raised - and was unable to move any further. She snarled in frustration as her legs stilled of their own accord, and tried to throw the knife instead: her hand wouldn't move, wouldn't unclasp, wouldn't ready itself for throwing, nothing she told it to do. Rusting iron on a hillside, this ashheaded spike-fodder... Brimming with anger, she turned to face Adilie and found herself completely stopped. Her traitorous body went so far as to lower its weapons and straighten out of its crouch. "I'm going to murder someone," she bit out, driving one of the blades into the wooden surface of the bar.

    I've read The Familiars (really fun kids' book series, do recommend it) and yeah I'm pretty sure it was just a similarity of cliches, as Lunamor and Chinkoln have said. I have also moved this thread to the SA forum.
