  1. I think people are putting too much emphasis on Dalinar giving away his blade. Syl didn't like them, and that probably affects them with Kaladin in some way, but Remember that Shallan has attracted truth spren and has a shardbalde. It may be that the shardblade will influence things with certain spren, but just because Dalinar had one doesn't mean it kept spren away. It could be something just with shardblades that Syl doesn't like that is more along the lines of it being used to kill in recent years. Or it could be that the shardblade should come from the bond that comes with being a KR and she doesn't like people having them other wise. We don't know yet. But we do know there is one case, Shallan, where she attracted special spren even with a shardblade.
  2. Droz your post gave me a random thought. What if the reason the Shardplate doesn't glow anymore like it did with the KR is because Honor has been killed since then and their stuff was in association with him, so then their power is now a bit random and doesn't work as it used to. any thoughts? EDIT: or maybe it's people taking the armor without speaking the oaths?
  3. Or the Devastations are a two fold thing, to take out the Champions of Honor and to take out Cultivation. Think about it, if you were a farmer and you worked really hard on a crop, nothing would frustrate you more than someone taking out the crop. The Devestations ruin what Cultivation is working on. So it might be a way to break both, especially when one devestation takes out 90% of the population.
  4. Droz, this could be an Elantrain situation. Galladon grew up in Elantris and knew very little about them and how things worked. The KR may be a similar thing, war and fighting were viewed as a necessary evil that they bore and so it might have been something they didn't like talking about even to their family.
  5. So you think Bavadin is only on Taldain to hide from Odium? Never thought of that.... I guess it could be since Odium doesn't seem to be willing to rule jointly with two others.
  6. Hummmm, do I think Peter is in a "I'm helpful" mood, or an "I'm going to innocently throw them off the scent"? Decisions, decisions....
  7. Personally I think the goth thing is a good example because who is the most annoying three personalities? The person that always does the right/honorable thing, the person that loves so much, and the person that tries to have control. This could explain why Odium went after them specifically. As to the other questions of why and where the Voidbringers/Unmade are coming from, I think the answer might be with Bevedin. The letter says Odium is teamed up with Bevedin, but we know nothing else about him/her. Once we get more answers there I think we can figure out more of what is going on
  8. How do we know they can sense each other? I had never read that before. Droz quote: Which always makes me wonder...if Tanavast and Rayse were enemies, why wasn't he ready for Odium to come after him? At least set some type of defense up; he's a Shard, certianly he could have figured something out. To me, it may deal with having chosen a champion. When I read the quote in WoK with Honor talking about how Dalinar may be able to get Odium to chose a champion, it seems like it is the way to beat the person. As in, if the champion looses/is killed, Odium would suffer the same fate. In my mind the champion loosing would weaken the shard holder, so the Heralds abandoning their honor, turning their back on Honor, and not acting as Honor's champions any more would in essence be the same as the Heralds loosing, so Honor would have been weakened from this. Then it is simple enough for Odium to kill him off as long as the Heralds do not assume their post again. It could be that Odium dealt a crippling blow by getting the Heralds out of the game, then quickly went and made his move against Aona and Skai because they were an equal threat, or only slightly lesser than Tanavast, then came back and finished off Tanavast later since he was already crippled.
  9. I don't know why I can't quote you both back this morning.... 1- I was really tired when I typed that, and I meant honorblades, don't know why dawnshards came out. And I agree with both of you that I don't know why they wouldn't use them other than two options. It's a Sword in the Stone kind of thing and they are not able to or they just built around them viewing them as a holy site. Again, not sure exactly. 2- I think Odium still had to find Honor even after the champions were dealt with, so in my mind having the time gap between the Heralds giving up and tracking down Honor to splinter the shard makes sense. 3- Yes that is what I was meaning Satsuoni. 4- Good point Voidus. I'll just scrap that one and put more thought into the other three
  10. The last few days I've been thinking about life, the Cosmere, and the meaning of all things. Here are a few budding ideas that I'm trying to have grow and see what holes are punched in them. Be gentle, they're babies and some of you would have WAY too much fun punching babies *eyes a few people* 1 - The Parshendi were either created to/have left their divine given tast to protect the dawnshards and in some kind of way hold them up as sacred. I get this from the prolog, the Heralds were supposed to meet at the spire in the broken lands and buried their blades there. I remember reading Dallinar or Sedas saying that the Parshendi fight harder the closer they get to the spire and they have never taken it. I think this is because they are stopping them from getting into the wrong hands. 2- The Heralds were the champion for Honor, this is why Odium worked so hard to take them down. The Oathpact was them holding up Honors side of the agreement that in some way was not in Odium's favor, but if the champion willingly breaks it, then it would be Honor in this case not being Honorable and going against his shard. This could have weakened Honor to the point that Odium was able to splinter him 3 - The key for the Knights Radiant will deal with the Shin and old Vorinism. 4 - The Knights Radiant left because Honor had been splintered and there was no honor in the world. This could make some of what they did less effective/powerful if they draw their power from honorable deeds (I view their first oath of protecting those who need protecting as an honorable thing that ties them in with Honor) Just wanted some thoughts. Others need more work than some, but feel like each has a solid plausibility. In my head, haha
  11. I think it's very possible to be setting up story arcs but I think one thing Brandon would have learned from WoT is the danger of too many characters to juggle. Jordan was great, but he lost control, I think, as the series went on and there were so many characters that all had their own arcs. If Brandon is going to use the interlude characters in the main story arc I think it will be mostly the ripple effects of their actions effecting the main characters in some way.
  12. Jordan first, since between CoS and PoD. While I'm sad that Mr. Rigney died, I can honestly say I would have never found Brandon without it happening. I've been told Idaho Falls was one of Brandon's largest fan areas before he started WoT, but I would have left there never hearing of him. I know I never read the Conan books that Jordan did, or his books he did under a different names. But every book by Brandon I hear about has such a damnation good plot or sounds intriguing enough that I convince myself I gotta read it (like Steelheart). Brandon's become one of my favorite authors from this. I just hope he doesn't go down to path that Jordan did and lose control of his characters. It seems like he wont because there are so many different series, but I worry about when they will tie in to be bluntly honest. Hopefully that is one of the things Brandon learned from WoT to not fall into.
  13. it could be that, but I wonder about something different. The magic system in the physical realm based on geography right? If we assume that the cognitive realm is the same for Sel as it is for Roshar, then the land and water are reversed right? Brandon has confirmed that the chasm has a counterpart in the cognitive realm, so that means the magic there hast to take that into account, but if the water and land are reversed, then the pattern form them there would also have changed form the chasm. This would mean the magic there, in my mind, needs to be fixed, but there isn't any reference to the Aons that would be used in that realm. It could be the same Aons, but I would thing there would be some kind of difference since the Arleon would be all water just like the other countries. So there could be a completely different set of Aons used in the cognitive realm. I hope this makes sense to someone else rather than just me.
  14. here's another from the torchat today: me: If a live Elantran entered the pool outside of the city, could they also use it to travel to the cognitive realm? Brandon: Let's just say that the characters in the book do not fully understand the pool or its power.
  15. Today was the #torchat with Brandon and I asked him if the Ghostbloods are associated with Odium. His reply was rather cryptic but his answer is this: "Odium has his fingers in a LOT of things." So may not give too many answers.... but I thought I'd share
  16. In case anyone was wondering, like me, I asked if there was a counterpart to the chasm in the Cognitive realm, Brandon's twitter reply was: "Yes, it does. But moving around there is really tough..." This is from the #torchat today
  17. When the neighbors dog wont stop barking, forge it without a bark. When the neighbors have a party and you're trying to sleep, forge the stereo broken When people take up multiple parking spots, use shardplate to move the vehicle across the parking lot and then lash it to the new spot When a girl wont stop texting on a date, forge the phone broken Go to a hotel and wait for kids to try jumping up and down to break the elevator, then use fulcramy to actually break it. Look in horror to the kids and ask "what did you do?" then use Aons to travel out of the elevator Go to a high school and lash the guys pants above their butts
  18. so this thread was linked to in the Stormlight forms, and I had some thoughts on it. Specifically on Odium. so the Shards have future sight to one degree or another, and the real question is how much does Odium have, right? To me it seems like Odium has a great deal simply because he is able to see what will keep a world in chaos, in the Elantris world he knew what would shut down the magic system and also get rid of his opposite. The other one he took out, Dominion, seems like a natural one to take out as well because, for me, it brings to mind great power. Someone that is able to control things is stronger than that thing. So if Odium could take out a strong shard, then there are fewer people to worry about stopping him. To me it seems like the natural opposite of Odium would be Devotion, and thus his chief rival that would be able to undo whatever he has planned but Dominion would be about an equal threat. Also Brandon has said that Sel was the most Cosmere aware of the worlds, so they would be the ones noticing what he is doing. To me this means that the people were exploring the cosmere, but it also means that the shards are noticing what he was/is up to. So why not take them out and go unnoticed in his plans? I think he hasn't worried about Scadrial for two reasons, 1- Ruin and Preservation were keeping each other busy and thus not a threat to him and 2- even if they did come after him, he is probably more powerful than them since they were putting their essence in metals/mist. They were effectively taking themselves out for him through their bickering. It is also possible that he couldn't find them because of what they did to their bodies. Now that Sazed has formed them into Harmony, it seems like Odium is more likely to take them out. This brings up two new issues for Odium: 1- Does he really need to worry about them? His plans may be so far gone that Harmony is unlikely to change anything. 2- Can he take on Harmony? Harmony now has the power of two shards, this makes him a larger threat than a single shard. But back to the original thing of Odium. I think he can see far into the future to know what he needs to do to bring about his plans, but the difference is he is looking long term and may not be focused on the short term issues. It doesn't seem like he has gone after Hoid much, though I may be completely wrong, and I don't think Hoid would be able to take on someone with the power of a shard. This could play into being a good thing because while Odium is patient and seems to know what he is doing, he also seems to ignore the short term in favor of being patient. Thus he may give ground, and end up giving so much ground that he looses in the long run. But it would probably be a long, hard battle because he would have a VERY through plan. Anyway, just some random thoughts on Odium. I could be wrong, but I thought I would bounce it off some of yall.
  19. does anyone know if Brandon will be having Q&A at any of these? And would they get mad if we ask them anything from the Cosmere even though it is a WoT tour?
  20. I liked the scene from the first reading, but the additions just make it that much more awesome
  21. I really hope the scene he teased in Toronto before switching
  22. Any ideas when he should have it up?
  23. But that may be the point of this. All of the shards together make a whole and balanced person, but look what happens when they just have one of the sixteen. It may be the point that we need balance in our lives and can't let one aspect dominate over the others. I feel like this is the moral of Mistborn when we see that Ruin and Preservation, although opposite forces, are made to work together. Honor seems like a good thing, but it needs it's counterpart to balance it in our personalities just as its counterpart needs Honor.
  24. anyone read Liar? It seems like being Hoid's apprentice focuses first on learning stories and the world hoping/other abilities are second
  25. Based on the reading from book 2 Brandon did, do you think it's possible that the Parshindi assassinated Gavilar because they were trying to bring about the change? After all they were peaceful, nothing happened, why not try war to see if that would change anything? And the ceremony was only a way to guarantee they could kill him and anger everyone enough to fight. Just a thought that occurred, thoughts?
