  1. So we've seen how Spren and humans unite to become surgebinders, I have been wondering lately whether the parshendi can actually get the full amount of power out of a spren though. What do you think would happen if a Odium loving spren united with a human? imagine the way it would work. Death before Life, destruction before destination. I will kill any who stand against me, I will slay the defenceless wherever I find them... and so on. Humans are so easy to corrupt and it makes me wonder whom the 10 fools will be. we know that he can choose a champion but I fully expect there to be atleast 10 humans who do bond a voidspren and become the real deal anti-heralds.
  2. I dont know that Sadeas' death will change all that much, seems like his wife was the brains behind the entire thing, he had the ambition and she had the brains and brass balls to come up with a way to do it. Kind of like an Anti-Navani. I wonder what breed of horse it was that threw Kaladin off, the name to me sounded like a Ryshadium, not to mention it was smart enough to let him relax first. But yes when I saw that they were made for the Radiants then I suspected that anyone who had bonded a Ryshadium had the potential to be a Knight
  3. Highstorms are formed from investiture a lot of it, infact no a staggering amount of investiture so much that if you could harness all of it I think you could likely do whatever you like. The stormfather seems to be the one in charge of it, the cognitive manifestation of the storm, I think that the reason there is a discrepancy about the times between when they come is largely due to wind speeds and the amount of time it takes for the stormlight to dissipate or re-converge at the origin(I doubt that Stormlight is unlimited). The weeping is basically meant to be a time of renewel, but it had already been over two weeks since the last highstorm when the Everstorm was unleashed, there had been ample time for the stormfather to do whatever was required before he could start one off, and was likely fully charged.
  4. I took it all to be similar to what happened with
  5. I dont know, I think of it a little like the DS9 Episode Statistical Probability. If you are smart enough then you can predict what actions people will take based on trends and what you know of them. Taravangian seems to have been most people'd best buds in the worldwide nobility, he wouldnt need to be massively intelligent to predict how they would react. its the whole on a widescale thing which would need the intelligence as well as to fill in the cracks on how to take control. Cant see how it is out of the realms of possibility that he could not on his best figure out all the little details, even if they do take a lot to decypher them
  6. Did the Recreance force/make Voidspren leave Roshar? or better yet: Is it possible for Voidspren to take control of another being if there are no 'Intelligent' spren active on Roshar. (i.e the Honorspren/cryptics and such. I suppose we could dub them Radiant spren)
  7. I still think there has to be some sort of link between the banishment of intelligent spren. the variety which can cause the advanced parshendi forms and those that allow a human to surgebind. I think it was a deliberate and orchestrated massacre in order to stop the next desolation, who knows perhaps Odium gave them visions in order to trick them into destroying the friendship between Spren and Mankind and then pulled his own spren back so that the former KR would believe it and so that the Heralds would believe that surgebinders were the key to the Desolations. Even if it was merely a ploy to further weaken mankind, so that when the days before the Everstorm do come that Surgebinders are hunted and killed, so that the spren are hesitant to give aid and that he will have a surer chance of destroying everything. Odium wants the hate and probably feeds on it. Making manking hate the surgebinders seems logical as does making the spren hate humans
  8. that is actually quite an intriguing idea, I have considered similar to an extent but I dont actually think he has truly hit the heights that he is capable of. I think part of request was so flawed that he was given the super-intelligent day in order to set the stage for something greater at a later day. I am hoping that he will redeem himself in some massive way in a few books, in fact I think he will be crucial to the survival of the humans, because he does care, he just cannot let that stop him doing what he believes is the only way to keep the species alive.
  9. "I am a stick" "But you seem cold..." "I am a stick!" "If you were a stick on fire you would still be a stick, but you would be a warm stick"
  10. Well the one thing we do know is that the Unmade never left or they would not have kept the Thrill alive all this time, but we didnt see any Odium spren until very late. If we could find out when they first showed up it would give us a much clearer idea. It would be a very good question to ask Brandon though. "Can voidspren return to Roshar without their Honor/Cultivation counterparts already being there?"
  11. One thing just occurred to me that might actually provide some sense to what the Heralds believe, and possibly what caused the Recreance. What if the Recreance was a plan thought up by the Heralds and the Knights Radiants to stop all intelligent spren from coming to Roshar... Including those which belong to Odium? Without the Voidspren there can be no desolations, and it seems like a fairly good guess that the voidspren cannot come before normal intelligent spren return to Roshar. If this is the case then that would explain the Heralds reactions. What I find interesting and I am beginning to wonder about is whether Galivar received visions from Honor or from Odium. It sounds too convinient for everything to start happening because of him. Its almost as if the moment that the Alethi came in contact with the Parshendi a countdown began. Did Galivar recieve the same visions? or was he as part of this "Sons of Honor." group recieving visions from the wrong side of the fence? without realising that he was starting off a chain of events. Imagine if Odium did give him visions, pretending to be Honor and basically prodding him on a course of events which would lead to his death and the war, its entirely possible that he placed the idea of telling the Parshendi that he wanted to return their Gods into Galivar's head.
  12. The blade Nalan gives Szeth at the end
  13. I think the problem is, most of the precautions against highstorms revolve around them going east to west. the Everstorm goes the opposite way around hitting the exposed area's and unlike the Highstorms I dont think the Parshmen would have any choice in the matter unless they are already bonded. as for what they will do, well I think the chances of any of them surviving are slim unless Rlain can convince them to take on warform before the Everstorm hits the shattered plains, they have a bit of time for this. But it also carries risks, those Parshmen would be wicked pissed and might just choose to swap sides away.
  14. Okay so lets say for instance that Szeth decided to go after Dalinar again. What do you think would happen if the Stormfather did choose to become a blade for him? Personally I think if he did, then it would likely be a blade of such power that it would make Honorblades act like twigs. Originally it made me wonder if all of the Honorblades were spren as powerful as the Stormfather etc but that doesnt feel right, there is no scream when Kaladin handles Jezriens blade. It is still a powerfully invested object though, just as Nightblood is. But I wonder just how much investiture the stormfather has, my bet would be in the order of 100 the magnitude of Nightblood. Im not sure if even an Honorblade would be able to do more than fend off Nightblood which is why I think there has to be some sort of checker on its power, the only thing I can think of would be the father of all blades
  15. There is one thing a lot seem to be forgetting. Stormlight changes the body, it changes it in such massive ways and seems to permeate your entire body. The two questions in my mind are these: "Does stormlight replace oxygen or merely render it unnecessary?" And secondly and more importantly: "Does it require blood to pump its way around your body?" If it replaces Oxygen then it would be required to travel around in your bloodstream for it to be effective, so I would guess that no it doesnt replace it, it merely makes it pointless. And if it does not replace Oxygen then it would not need bloodflow to move it around your body, in which case being stabbed by a common blade; asin non-shardblade would not be particularly dangerous to a person holding stormlight. The Stormlight would prevent any damage from oxygen deprivation to your brain, it already does that when you hold stormlight for extended periods of time anyway. And the only guaranteed way to kill a surgebinder is to sever the soul of the surgebinder. Therefore while the wound to Jasnah would likely have been painful, I think she would have healed it quite easy, within minutes/hours of removing the weapon. Personally I think the reason why she took so long was that she was essentially forced to elsecall to shadesmar, something we can pretty much guess she had never done before; totally entering shadesmar in the flesh rather than just mentally. This could cause some serious disorientation and it appears she was given access to a lot of different spren, namedly the highspren whom answered her questions at great length. She was basically there for around two months or so correct? This makes me wonder whether time works the same way in shadesmar if you enter fully? though I suspect that would not be the case, it would smack too much of the world of dreams. However another good question is that is entering fully the way worldhoppers go to different worlds, and does it take time to enter/leave shadesmar fully depending on just how far you are trying to move? i.e entering from one world to another could take centuries of real time, whereas from one point on a planet to another could take days, weeks or months? Though there is perhaps a simpler reason for the delay... This is Jasnah Kholin! she would have just been given access to an enormous amount of knowledge and might simply have lost track of time, she certainly doesnt seem aware that she had been gone from the world for months.
  16. im looking forward to the Eshonai book, I think she has a lot to make her interesting. In some ways I see her as Marsh 2.0, and I expect her to really have an good viewpoint. She was the first to meet with the Alethi, the first to turn to Stormform. She's a nexus point for important events, the question in my mind is whether she will be able to break free like her ancestors of the lost legion did.
  17. The visions seem to be a last ditched defence Honor could provide for his humans, he knew he was going to be killed so he left a time delayed message with the intent that it get to the right people at the right time. they would not have been much help before that I dont think, because he would have no idea when the final desolation would occur, warning too far in advance if like telling a child that they will die one day. After a while the urgency goes away once it becomes clear that one day could be any day. Add in a few thousand years and mankind would have forgotten all about it anyway.
  18. So its fairly clear that Shallans mother wanted to kill Shallan because she feared that she was a surgebinder, and that her father protected her from the aftermath, well he protected her physically and her mental block did the rest. But what occurs to me is that it is likely that her mother was the first one within the household whom was a member of one of the nefarious societies which we seem to be finding out about. There are a few possibilities, though I am very much torn about who she could have been part of. The Ghostbloods seem to have no problems with killing surgebinders, but they dont actively seem to do it unless they would interfere with their plans. The envisegers would not do it unless they were trying to unlock her powers, but still it seems unlikely because they seem to be a very 'pro choice' group. Thaidakar's group (likely wants to return to the Hierocracy) are an option but they seem to want the KR and Heralds to return. Nalan's little group of psychopathic Judge Judy's dont really seem likely either, its possible but I very much doubt that Nalan would not be there himself. So the real question is in my mind who was she with? I think if Nalan knew he would have returned so that really does remove them in my mind. The Ghostbloods could well be the culprits which would seem fitting in some ways, as her father and brother seem to have both ended up in the same organisation. But if they were the culprits, then why didnt her father sell her out? was he truly that loyal to her? was he under external pressure which caused him to crack?
  19. My impression on the pools was that they were an intersection between the normal world and shadesmar which would explain why they are so dangerous, this makes even more sense with worldhoppers coming out of those pools. What better way than to use an intersection between the physical and cognitive realms? I just wonder if there are similar places on other worlds.
  20. How Vasher lost Nightblood would be a good question as would how can Szeth draw stormlight for Nightblood when he should no longer have access to surges. Or is Surgebinding contagious? does mere proximity to someone who can surgebind make it more likely that you will gain those abilities if you can distinguish yourself?
  21. The real question to be is that what happens when an Honorblade and Nightblood fight. Personally I am inclined to believe that it would be a close fight and more determined by the skill of the wielder than anything. Thats why I am hoping that Zahel gets an Honorblade to defeat Szeth
  22. The Oathpact is the only thing I can think of that would hold him to the Solar System, maybe part of him dying was to bar Odiums exit. Captive is an interesting term. You could have an entire planet as a prison if you had the resources for it, that would not stop a killer traveling half way around the planet after you, not would it if the limit was a solar system. I think Hoid is in danger if he is discovered anywhere in the Greater Rosharian solar system. its interesting though I had originally wondered if the first letter was to Sazed, but the response kind of destroys that idea. I wonder whom or what it was to though, whether you guys were right about this "dragon" person or whether we are all off base.
  23. Myself I voted for Adolin, I think Shallan and Kaladin would be terrible together, they are TOO damaged for each other, I had hoped that Kaladin would end up with Jasnah but with what happens to her as I thought they would have complimented each other far far better. Lets face it Shallan and Kaladin arent far off being the same person in some respects, their character traits would not make for overly interesting reading after a while, or she will end up growing her hair, braiding it and tugging it whenever Kaladin annoys her. No I think Kaladin will back off, and maybe find someone else to interest him, one of the other orders. Lightweaver and a Wind Runner? Yeah there spren would pitch a fit, those two types loath each other.
  24. The Everstorms purpose might not even be to cause destruction in its first wave. Think about it, they did this with ~20,000 Parshendi. I think this was merely the first trickle designed to get a storm powerful enough to spread Odiums spren throughout Roshar so that he can infect every Parshman alive. I dont think it was meant to destroy the world or even last, merely to activate the sleeper cells spread throughout the planet. Think what would happen if they all in sequence did it? it would likely be enough to wipe out all life on the planet because everytime it started to wane, they could reinfuse it.
  25. I actually think that if Adolin does bond a spren, it will be that of his Shardblade. Spren cannot die, they can be broken and almost unrepairable and im damned sure that I read a qoute in the book saying that only the Knights Radiant could change that. So I think Adolin will resurrect his sword somehow, lets face it surgebinding seems almost contagious, merely being around people and seeing them in action almost inspires people to become like them, how far of a leap would it for Adolin who treats his sword like a living being, something no one else previously shown has done, would it be for him to reawaken the spren in a similar way to what Kaladin did when he almost did the unforgivable?
