I just lost again

Max scratched the back of his head, or, at least, the back of his helmet. “He said he made this place to be good, and good for people. Even if you were his enemy, I don’t think you’d be the Foundation’s enemy.” As they walked forward, Max thought. “Normally, I would Riot their trust of you and there wouldn’t even be a risk.” He said, looking down. “But obviously that’s not an option anymore. I have so little nicrosil left it’s laughable. Perhaps it’s for the better.” @Sorana

As they teleported, a moment of clarity hit Max. “Ooh, that’s what it’s about,” he mumbled to himself.

@Nohadon “He had this... lab, he used to go to. I don’t know if he’s there now, but it could give us information. He called it the Investiture for a Better Life Foundation. Last I heard the DA were suing them.”

Max had no idea what that sky analogy meant, but he felt it as really emotional and deep and so he nodded. He felt emotional. Surrounding him were dead corpses he made, for one. “No,” he said slowly. “I will go with you. He saved us. We should save him.”

Cyanic, you legend. You’re good writer. I don’t know if I already mentioned that, but since you’re leaving the Alleyverse I wanted to say you write really well! Like seriously. I didn’t know about this until like a couple minutes ago, so I’m still a bit surprised, but I completely agree with Sorana. Real-life matters a lot. Like, without real-life you just have this. And this couldn’t exist without real life, so... checkmate? On another note, this makes me feel exponentially more guilty for completely ditching that Kaiju fight. You’re a cool person. And I don’t really know what else to say, even though there’s probably a lot to say. Fun Facts: -When I first saw your username, I thought ‘Storm, I should’ve picked that’ - The Mech you had for our Kaiju fight was awesome and one of the coolest things ever and I legitimately considered using one for the Ghostbloods but decided against it because I didn’t want to copy. - You’re funny. Waiting. Hey had been waiting for hours. Alask got up and stretched. “I’m going for a short walk. I’ll be back.” He said that last line in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s voice, though he doubted any of them got the reference. Strolling around the hushed building among the strong smell of sanitizer, Max looked out the window, and his eyes widened just a bit more. A group of people were far off. One was walking to the entrance. It wouldn’t have been suspicous at all if Alask didn’t recognise these people. His heist partners. Conveniently heisting the hospital on the same night he was here. He hoped Laonin wouldn’t catch wind of the situation. But still, he needed to help. “Hey,” Alask called to a passing nurse. “Do you think you open up the windows? It’s for one of our friends, he’s a patient, and he’s finding it too hot.” The nurse nodded kindly and went to opening the windows. That should help them, Alask thought as he looked at the group from inside the building, and nodded, walking back to Laonin and Ishek.

Max frowned. Thank you? He decided not to ask. He was tired. Too tired to ask questions. “Who?” Max asked, immediatly going against what his narrator previously said.

Max looked to the distance. The horizon. The Pheonix had disappeared all of a sudden, only leaving the Chaos it had ridden outside the Oasis sheild. Though it wasn’t like Oasis was any better on the inside. The city was littered with corpses. Turning back to Althea he tried his best and gave a very faint ghost of a smile through his visor. “Congratulations on getting to the Council.” He did a little bow. “Good job on the evacuation. As for helping, the Pheonix looks gone for now. Perhaps it’s time we leave this place.” Ending what he was saying, Max forced his mouth into a faint smile again. “Sorry for turning you insane,” he said. “It was nothing personal.”

Max looked back to Althea, she looked dazed, and Max felt unimaginable guilt. She’d tried to help him, and this was how he repayed her? She was bleeding, too, and Max couldn’t resist looking away in shame. “You need to go. There’s a Pheonix, and a bunch of other things and it’s really dangerous. Go to the hospital. I’ll go later, I need to help the others with this Pheonix issue. I’m sorry.”

Alask woke up with a start as the doctor started screaming. The actual man who was injured looked fine though. “Does this mean we need a doctor for the doctor now?”

Max looked up at the Pheonix smashing itself against the wall, and turned back. “Yes, I saw him die myself.”

“Lots of the population is dead,” Max said mournfully. “As for those who aren’t, Mr. Amber’s car is a good place for lots of people, maybe we could get enough if we kept putting people in the car, teleporting to safety, and then putting more in the car. I know for a fact there’s a few Elsecallers or Willshapers around here, they can Transport whoever’s remaining. Apart from that, I’m not sure.” He looked up. The Pheonix. A being of power. Rashan has faced it, all those 16 years ago. Max was too. He wondered if the beast could remember Rashan, if it could remember all of those lives it claimed so long ago. Probably not, Max reasoned. It was just a bird, after all.

“Is the one responsible for this neutralised?” Max looked tiredly to the source of the question. A lifeless. The same one he’d seen at Devaan’s Training Ground so long ago. He had frozen up then. He wouldn’t freeze up now. “Yes,” Max lied. “Whoever did this is probably another one of these corpses now.” Max hoped the lifeless could overlook him as a ‘simple Rioter’ as so many else had, not capable of such destruction.
