    Max nodded silently, taking everything in. He suddenly realised how he’d talked to him in the wedding, how he said he’d snap him like a toothpick, and became embarrassed. He commented on the wedding, how Rashan would be proud, and Max nodded. “Thanks,” he said, still quiet. “You said you needed to share something with me, when you first told me you were Devaan. What was that?” I’ll be in Shadesmar for a while. Do you need help? Althea’s voice spoke in his head. No, Max replied. How did he explain what had happened? Thanks for asking. I’ll talk to you later. He trusted whatever thing she needed to do in Shadesmar, she could handle it. She’d said she’d find a way.

    Wes nodded quickly at the Mistborn. “Hi, Mistborn, I’m We-” he realised he’d already introduced himself and stopped. “Teaming up sounds good,” he said. “Though I’m unsure what exactly I bring to the table. Cerrobend, that’s Bendalloy in case you didn’t know, isn’t exactly a useful Feruchemic metal.”

    Max stopped his kick instantly, just inches away from the tatooed man — Devaan’s face. “...Master?” Max’s voice was uncharacteristically quiet. He set down his leg, and stepped back. He tried his best to keep his voice steady. “Where have you been?” He whispered.

    “Hi,” Wes waved. “I’m Wes, though you can just call me Wes. I’m a Cerrobend Ferring you know, that’s Bendalloy in case you didn’t know.” He wore glasses and his voice as strangely high-pitched.

    Max slammed the tatooed man in the wall, but the man headbutted him and he saw stars. The man threw Max to the ground and Max prepared to counter-attack what was coming. I need to leave the wedding, Althea’s voice suddenly spike in her ear. I'm sorry, I might have done something stupid. But don't worry, I'll find a way. What? Wait, what do you — Max tried to respond but he was interrupted as the tattooed man shoulder dropped him. He blossomed with pain and tried to stand up. “Tell me something only Devaan and I would know.” He said, as he lunged another time for a well-aimed roundhouse kick. *** Lusk nodded. “Very well,” he said, walking away from Althea and the wedding. As he passed the couple he slipped a note and a decorated bead of Atium. - From Lusk. Don’t thank me.

    Lusk nodded. “Well, I don’t know if you know but we’re quite a while off. Maybe in Shadesmar?” He realised he would be at a disadvantage there, the Righthand would be able to fight without risking the sun harming her there, which crossed off a possible attack on his list. *** This tatooed guy was talented. Or Devaan, but the fight wasn’t over yet. He grunted as the elbow collided with his shoulder and his kneecap got kicked. He began trying to elbow the man behind him once, twice, thrice, multiple times, not stopping. He stood up tall, and ran backwards towards a wall with his force, trying to crush the man into the wall and grabbing onto him so he couldn’t slip out last second.

    Lusk smiled, and nodded. He could take down a Radiant. He’d been consistently winning against Walker, after all, and he was a Compounder. “A duel? I can get along with that,” he said. “But where?”

    Classic Devaan technique, but maybe he’s an actor. Max focused his efforts on the punch, adjusting his step and blocking the punch from the side, grabbing on to the fist. The sweep kick tripped him, but as he still held onto the tattooed man’s fist, he tried flipping them both into the rocky ground, attempting to twist the man’s arm. *** Lusk sighed. She wasn’t stopping the smile, which frustrated Lusk. Rusting creepy lady. He stepped forward suddenly, meeting the sunglasses of the Righthand. “Here’s how it’s going to work,” he said. “I’m going to continue what I’m doing, and not stop. Nolastname is the only entertainment I have around here, and that’s that. Not surprising he sent his higher up wife to confront me.” He slowed down. “So what are you going to do? Fire me? Need Council approval. Attack me? Try.” His smile turned cold. “You can’t do anything, can you? I can just say anything, and the most you can do is tell me to stop.” He outstretched his arms. “So do something. I dare you. I’m old enough to have seen people like you can’t carry out what you say. Because you said to be frank, I’m going to be frank here: I can continue to do what I do, and you can’t do anything but say empty words as your husband cowers behind you. Classical.” He took a deep breath. He liked it when Rhazien was in charge, and Akraisa was the Righthand. Nowadays all these new kids where trying to appear tough and threaten him, like he wasn’t an old man who’d almost died of liver failure.”

    “Hm, yeah.” Lusk said. “A marriage with the Righthand.” He continued. “But though I have to mention my intelligence, my creativity is lacking at the moment. So if you could outline a clear threat for me to act on that would be great.” He flashed a smile of his own, hiding the fact that Althea’s unsettled him. *** Max nodded, and stepped back. “If you’re not Devaan, it’ll give me an excuse to beat you up.” He lifted his hands up and started walking around, waiting for the man in front to take a punch.

    Lusk frowned. She wasn’t showing much reaction. That much made him feel his methods weren’t doing anything. “And, I too appreciate your work as Righthand and trying to rebuild Oasis after he destroyed it, but, and pardon my Terris, but why on rust would I do that? Because you say so?” He was waiting for the ultimatum. *** Max stopped in his tracks, looked at the card. “Huh,” He said, crossing his arms, looking to the man in the eye. His voice turned cold. “I’m going to give you one more chance to tell the truth. If you admit you aren’t Devaan, I’ll let you go. If you say you’re Devaan but I find you’re lying, I swear to Adonalsium I will snap you like a toothpick. Now tell me if you’re really Devaan, and why I should believe you beyond a steel card. I hear they sell those at souvenir shops now.”

    Max observed the scene, with curious eyes. Whoever the tattooed man was, he had access to a lot of information, to know Max was married when he’d only met him as a kid, to know a random muggers name and marriage. “A little,” he said. “People who come back to life. Can heal people. Why?”

    Max nodded. When he was young. Under Devaan, probably. When he’d been afraid of Hemalurgy, when he’d had Mara. A different time. “Sure,” he said. He looked to where Althea was. He tried to catch her eye, and waved. He wasn’t leaving the wedding completely, just for a walk. “Let’s go?” He said.

    Max blinked. Yes? The man dodged the question and asked Max about Althea. So he knew Max was married. So no misunderstanding, then. “Married life is great,” he said, looking at the tattooed man. “Thea is great - that’s my wife, Althea. One year of happiness.” He realised the man might not answer what his name was, like he’d dodged the other questions. “Where did I meet you?” Max said. “I would’ve thought I’d remember you, you know, by the tattoos.”

    The man smiled and Max returned the gesture. The man had somehow changed the topic of discussion to the Canton. “I am,” he said. “And great. One and a bit years of training sharpen even the worst. We have a while to go, but we’re off to a good start.” He shook his head and smiled. I’m sorry, who were you again?”

    Max nodded as Anthony walked away to talk to other guests. Althea went to talk with Lusk, and Max was left to his own devices. He looked around, saw a man walk in and wink at her. He moved to a separate place and signalled for her to come to him. Just a misunderstanding, I guess. Maybe he didn’t know she was married. He walked towards the man, who had tattoos around his eyes. “Hey,” he said. @Nohadon

    “I don’t think I do,” Lusk said, eyes gleaming. It was a balance he had to maintain, a line he had to walk. How to say what he needed in a way that wasn’t flat out name-calling. “Besides, don’t know if you know, but I’ve been... away for the past year. Nolastname works under someone different now, has been for a year, though I assure you I am trying to regain the position.” He stopped, tried to think of what to say to her, how to push her buttons. He’d invoked the rage on all of his doctors until they tried to harm him and were fired, so he had practice. “Althea Tenira,” he said. “No external family, correct?” He smiled. “Of course Nolastname would jump onto that, manipulate that. Manipulate you. And you would accept him.” @Sorana

    Itiah nodded, and pulled out two emerald brooms. It was three quarters of the money he carried. He put them on the counter. “I constantly don’t know whether I exist,” he said. “I don’t know whether anyone does, whether this is my imagination,” he signaled to the spheres. “If you can mix a drink good enough to tell me this is the real world, to confirm I’m not dreaming, I swear you’ll probably see the best look on my face. The spheres are payment.”
