  1. Sanderson at last signing said that Ym wasnt Edgedancer, so that leave only Truthwatcher. As his and Stump sprens look alike I think its safe to assume that Stump is Truthwatcher too.
  2. I think Kaladin is Surgeon. It was path before he became spearman.
  3. Yep, he called it Ring. I assumed that it was sort of Cultivationspren ruling body. Dont know if you know this, but Sanderson said that sprens often (tbh not always) have oposite gender then their's human.
  4. @Matrim "“Too much time passed for this one, mistress,” Wyndle said softly. “I’m sorry.” “Gawx was longer.” “Gawx wasn’t slain by a Shardblade,” Wyndle said. “I … I think that humans don’t die instantly, most of the time. Oh, my memory. Too many holes, mistress. But I do know that a Shardblade, it is different. Maybe if you’d reached this one right after. Yes, you’d have been able to then. It was just too long. And you don’t have enough power, either way.”" I guess difference is that Shardblade severe soul connection to body. And for ability to revive one killed by Shardblade combination of both, time passed and power used matter. Probably more time pass - more power you need to use. Looks that even if Lift reached girl asap she wouldnt be able to help her because of not enough power.
  5. I think this might be best description of ability. As addition, Sanderson said that for example Lightweaver had mnemonic abilites but wording suggested not all of them or not all the same like Shallan has. So Edgedancers Resonance might not be ability to use languages per se but ability to connect with other people. Speech is only one of many ways you can connect with someone. When I think about it now, Lift changes not only her talking, its way he holds herself too. Different when he talks with street urchin and different, more regal when she talk to Darkness. Even when she annoy scribes, she is doing it more from position of power which they can understand and relate to, and not in mean hurtful way.
  6. After Edgedancer I started wonder how much exactly Wyndle knows. People are annoying that Lift dotn listen to him, but glimpses we got in Edgedancers could suggest that he wouldnt actually give us any more info then we already had. He seemed to match Lift in immaturity level that sometimes I wondered who of two was more mature. At times I had feeling that Edgedancer was as much about Lift progress like Wyndle progress. Their's decision after they broke into Darkness hideout to do something about whole situation- it seemed to me that Lift basically lead Wyndle to it, he said what she already decided herself. Its rly strange and interesting at same time - other sprens we saw were sure of themselves and acted as guiding figures for their humans but here Lift actually care more about people then Wyndle. With Wyndle and Lift first time we have relation where both sides grow and progress and change. Wyndle words at end “… I was a very regal fork, wouldn’t you say?” were rly sweet and at same time says a lot about Wyndle himself. I can deny that because its simply untrue. Lift often annoy other people but when we look closely they are almost always stuck up, in power people. She was making fun of scribes etc, but at same time she was never making fun of hurt, weak or down on luck people. And even if she make fun or annoy someone its not in mean way. It was visible even in her interlude in WoR. Way she talked with urchins, sick kid at orphanage, even with Sleepless (when he first asked her what body part would she be), she had way more understanding for them then other people. And she is helping other people without making any deal out of it too. People painting Lift as immature annoying brat because she dont care much about science, or jokes, or having fun in most absurd way but at the same time most people ignore fact that she care about people in need and is kind to them way more then some other mature characters in series. Other example was her speenread conversation with Gawx, when she tell him about food, all around thinks she just make jokes when she actually says very important mature thing that people will need to eat even after end of world. So yea, im defintly at TeamLift after Edgedancer I believe that she is much better person in simple down to earth human way then people realize. @maxal Can we actually be sure that both Stump and Ym are/were proto-Edgedancers? It might be that there are people who share some characteristic which make them suitable for both Edgedancers and Truthwatchers Orders. I read discussion about sprens look but Im still not convinced. As far as Wyndle knows, Cultivationsprens didnt decide to bond Ym. He said "we were considering" not that he personally and they went with Lift instead.
  7. Do we know if there is something like that on Roshar? Or maybe they know of some kind of snowsoes. Because it could make terrific weapon at times About non related ideas - imagine shardquirt/shardwhip or shardbummerang in battle Either way with some imagination and changing alive shard Radiant could manage to be very effective against cremlings which imo support my guess that both Skybreakers didnt reach 3rd Oath yet.
  8. Hmm two things to consider. We dont know if it was Odium who splintered Ambition, wording was I think specially unclear both in Therenody essay and in Roshar essay. There is possibility that Ambition was actually splintered by some other Shard who used fact that Odium wounded Ambition, or Ambition died and splintered from wounds (if thats possible, I think not, but we dont know how can you mortally wound Shard too) Second, I think mechanic of Shard investing is that if Shard will be on planet long enough, he/she will automatically invest. My guess is that this what happened to Odium in Greater Roshar system - he was somehow made to stay by Honor and invested automatically, then needed splinters to battle on Roshar. I always wondered how he managed to kill so many, each fight should make him a bit weaker from wounds etc, so even taking in account that other Shards were Invested there should be limit to how many Odium could except to kill. Theory about Odium using splinters of Shards he killed and splintered could explain how he managed to splinter so many Shards, when from Therenody's essay we have confirmation that fights with other Shards take toll on Odium too.
  9. Well chasmfiends are considered gods by Parshendii. So depends on definition rly powerful voidbringer could be considered demigod too.
  10. @Stark Good points. But alive spren can be anything. Sword might not be effective but maul, bat, shovel, big spatula :D? Plus full Radiant would have armor. Which bring question, do we have any idea what happen when you get hit by blunt Shardblade? Like maul? Will it just hit you or will it pass by flesh killing it's connection to soul? Shardblade mists when it pass flesh so it dont rly need to be sharp to kill living organism. @Brgst13 I think it could be matter of numbers. We dont know how many Aimians were there. Kinda like in @Stark argument that shardbearer wouldnt be effective against Arclo - no matter how powerful you are if there are just too many enemies.
  11. @Brgst13 I assumed that Nale could fight Arclo but it wouldnt be easy or sure fight so he prefer to avoid it. Lift were holding quite well against Nale, I imagine that for example Kaladin especially with 3rd Oath would be quite hard opponent for Nale, so we shouldnt assume that Arclo is more powerfull then Radiants with shards. As for two Skybreakers, I believe that they still didnt spoke 3rd Oath and were simply too weak and without Shardblades had no chance but maybe someone with 3rd or higher Oath could fight Arclo.
  12. Spiritual aspect has information about actual age and body will just try catch up with that Spiritual information about age. For example that happened with Lord Ruler when his metalminds were removed.
  13. @AnanasSpren First I thought that it was because of time Heralds spent in Damnation being tortured. Now I think it might be combination of tortures and extensive use of power via Honorblades because of how unstable Szeth become. Plus like you said we dont know function of Oathpact. I have feeling that Oathpact wasnt made to battle Odium himself but Honor had some other reason for it, and later just used Heralds against Odium. I base it on WoB where Sanderson said that Heralds arnt happy with what happend to them and blame Honor for that. And WoB that Oathpact isnt as broken as Heralds think. It would indirectly imply that returning to Damnation etc wasnt original purpose of Oathpact.
  14. @DSC01 We dont know if Nightblood is capable of Nahel bond, and I think only sprens capable of Nahel bond grant surges which could mean specific Roshar sprens - for example I assume that Seon which would come to Roshar would not grant Surges to his bonded human (or not know surges at last) I didnt have time to look for WoB I was thinking about, but I guess question is - would sentient pieces of Investiture not from Roshar grant any powers to humans on Roshar? Or Nahel bond and powers are specific to Roshar sprens only? I agree that at some point Szeth will get powers but I not sure if it will be bacause of Nightblood or him bonding with Roshar spren. Nightblood for me is just backward, when Roshar spren exist in Cognitive Realm with Nahel Bond is slowly pulled into Physical Realm untill it can manifest as metalic weapon, with Nightblood is kinda opposite, he is already in Physical Realm as heavy Invested sword, but can he be what sprens are in time? Will he be able to change form or disappear into Cognitive Realm fully? This differences between Roshar sentient sprens and Nightblood are what make for me hard to accept theory that he will grant surges himself.
  15. @AnanasSpren In WoR Syl mention that Szeth is using very high amounts of Stormlight which is dangerous, but do not specify danger. I think there was WoB that burning Mists by Vin was dangerous because power output was to high and it would destroy her physical body eventually. Its like you put too much electrical power into wires and burn them. Maybe with Honorblade and normal human its similar but on smaller scale? Definitely Szeth mind began to crack. Looks that Heralds wernt fully protected too. They excepted to get better or at last stable when they gave up their Honorblades, but they are still getting worse, question is why?
  16. @Stark Hmmm after ending of WoR and Kaladin vs Szeth final fight where Syl reacted and changed really fast, I would say that its highly unlikely that alive spren would hurt his Radiant, tbh I dont hink we can definitely say that its impossible. I see it more that spren would just disappear before hurting his Radiant then some mechanic of Nahel bond itself. BTW I had similar thoughts when I read about for example Adolin resting his shardblade on his shoulder (ok he had armor if I remember correctly but without helm), what if fall and cut his neck?
  17. I guess table was in front of her so there probably was no danger (assuming she was stabbing out, not toward herself ). Im no sure what do you mean by slipping with shardblade as it go through everything. But I must admit that I wondered what would happen if she cut her tongue while eating impaled pancake
  18. Which part suggest that Szeth has Surge of Gravitation? When two Skybreakers fly to Orphanage Szeth just stay behind. Except strange afterimage he is just normal crazy ex assassin in Edgedancer. I think there was WoB that Nightblood dont grant surges (im not 100% sure) and other WoB about if Nightblood will use Stormlight instead of Breath which indirectly suggested that Nightblood wont grant ability to suck in Stormlight --> Sanderson there said that Szeth shouldnt use Nightblood for now as he cant suck in Stormlight. Ability to suck in Stormlight is I think first thing granted by forming bond, so if Nightblood was able of Nahel bond, Szeth should be able to suck in stormlight.
  19. Actually it could happen at any point in last 3 years before Lifts interlude in WoR. And we know that Wit was missing from warcamps. Wyndle had recolection of that event so it happened after Lift visited Nightwatcher. I assume that Lift when to Nightwatcher at age of 10, in her Interlude she was 10 for 3 years already, so at some point in that 3 years period she saw man jumping into Marabethian greatshell. I think Lift Interlude was in 1173 or 1174 Roshar time. In 1170 Shallan meet first time Wit when he posed as messenger, in 1173 Wit was in Kholinar waiting for Taln. So we have time between 1170 to 1172 for him to be swallowed and spend more then half year being digested and then return in 1173 first to warcamps then to Kholinar.
  20. We dont know for sure if he was rly summoning blade at that point or only prepared for it. When I read it I imagined it that way. He dismissed blade so he could easier attack Lift with knife. Then he put his hand to side waiting for effect of his attack with knife, when it worked how he planed he summoned blade instantly (it was assumption which Im not sure now if its correct, more below). Thing is, Nale has Surge of Gravitation and I think ability to suck in Stormlight, so either he has Honorblade, or he bonded spren. If that was spren I would except him to progress enough to have alive Shardblade which he could not only summon instantly but change it shape. Other explanation is that he has dead Shardblade, and his powers are from fabrials, maybe there is fabrial which can do Reverse Lashing (Sanderson said that all Surges could be replicated with fabrial), but it would not explain why did he glow. Or we just make false assumption that Honorblades are summoned instantly. I assumed that Heralds could summon it instantly but I now realize that there was no proof of it. Szeth needed 10 heartbeats to summon his. I think that he should have knowledge that it was no dead Shardblade, so there shouldnt be false belief like in case of Shallan sumoning Pattern after 10 heartbeats. Only other time we see Herald summoning blade is in WoK prologue and its not clear if they need to wait or not. BTW when i checked prologue of WoK now to see if there is mention of of delayed summoning this fragment attracted my attention : "Groans of the dying haunted them from behind. There, in Jezrien’s eyes, Kalak saw anguish and grief." When I read it before I just assumed it was sounds of men on battlefield, but what if this sentence is about same thing which happened to Szeth who hears screams of his victims? What if this is side effect of using Honorblade? If that would be true, it could be argument against theory that Nale retrieved his blade, and it would partially explain why Heralds all seems to go mad.
  21. You are not only one I loved how Sanderson made Lift as human and way away from being perfect. That she can fail using her powers, still long way before.she learn how to use them properly. Its so normal, like when she was trying fast sliding and keep falling, so not in style of book hero and I rly liked it. At the same time its little girl who is trying to do some good. Even if she is often childish and silly, there are glimpses of hurt, of loneliness, which make it a lot more then only silly story of girl who make others call her Your Pancekefullness.
  22. There was/is WoB that Nightwatcher didnt know how to give Lift what she asked for (not to change as we know now) and instead tried close thing. Ok some ideas: Nightwatcher attempt at making Lift stay same might be by putting her more in Cognitive realm and ability to metabolize stormlight from food is just side effect. or Making Lift Edgedancers which atm seems to me as part medics part chroniclers between Radiants who keep true story about people. It might be too that Nightwatcher took Lift wish and instead of freezing her in specific age, thought about preserving her for as long as possible, and being Radiant probably make your life longer. That would work if you think of "not to change" as not to die and not change your form from physical to ghost. We know for sure that Lift is changing both physically and psychically/emotionally . It might be too that there was something in specific wording of wish that Nightwatcher looked at. Last thing - we dont know what is boon and what is curse. I assume that being made Radiant is boon, but Nightwatcher is strange so it might be curse too
  23. Its not that Im sure, I just said that my own theory was that it was Bondsmiths for reasons I stated before but that theory I made before I knew how crazy about following code are Skybreakers. I assumed that this orginal Bondsmiths died of old age, and after that their sprens didnt bond anyone new. I agree that with what we know about Skybreakers from Edgedancer they seem more likly to keep Oaths. I was just pointing that we have no definitive answer yet even with new informations. And I agree with you that Nale is in possession of his Honorblade as only Skybreakers and Windrunners had access to Gravitation surge, and Windrunners Honorblade is in Urithiru. Like I said before, there seems to be contradiction between Nale's belief that Radiants can cause Desolation and him keeping Surgebinders around. because of this contradiction, I assumed that its recent development, when he saw how far Kaladin, Shallan progressed and that he realized that he wont be able to kill them alone as easly as 13 year old girl, so he got backup. I think we will get answer about that from Jasnash time in Shadesmar, because sprens of that single Order survived so they were only one with knowledge. What we know so far again seems to support your theory about Skybreakers, because Jasnash mention Highsprens as source of her informations when she was in Shadesmar. WoB was post-WoR I belive, below is secondary source, I originally saw it somewhere else but dont remember where now There are some problems with Shallan when it come to her progression. First and most obvious one is that Lightweavers have no specific oaths except first so its all relative. Second and more important is that Shallan progressed a lot in past, I assume at last up to third Oath equivalent, but then regressed because of repressed memories. In addition her own beliefs messed things too - for example she didnt need 10 heartbeats to summon Patern as weapon, but she believed that she need so he acted like dead blades in that regard. So progression of Shallan which we see in WoK and WoR is in fact in big part rediscovery for her not first time progression like for Kaladin. My guess is that this is reason why number of truths we saw dont match her Oaths equivalent number. BTW did you notice that we Lift, when she spoke third Ideal/Oath of Edgedancers there was no cool effect like for Kaladin? I guess in Kaladin case it was so spectacular because of restoration of his bond, but still I was hoping there will be some visual effect for Lift.
  24. One can Surgebind after initial Oath, Lift, Kaladin had access to basics of both Surges even before they spoke second Oath, so its not safe to assume only based on that. Like I said, both Skybreakers in Edgedancers seems to be new ones, first or second Oath. If Skybreakers Order survived I suspect that Nale would have some more experienced Radiant with him, not two green novices. Stormfather was well miffed because he saw what happened at Recreance Day - whole population of sprens died. He is afraid that it happen again and that this time he will die. That was reason too why he tried to prevent Syl from bonding Kaladin. Kaladin spoke third Oath and there is WoB confirming that Shallan is one step higher then him in progression, thats why Im assuming she in Lightweaver equivalent of 4th Oath. She had ability ot summon Patern as weapon for whole WoR - that mean third Oath level, last truth put her farther on progression. Unless Lightweavers truths count differently she would be 4th now. Plus I think Shallan generally progressed farther from all known Radiants but regressed because of her repressed memories but she definitly was on third Oath level long before Kaladin. About Helaran, we dont even know if he bonded spren, we only know he was looking Skybreakers, which could mean anything rly. And Amaram is using shardblade which we assume belonged to Helaran (if that was him who died at Kaladins hand) which mean its blade from dead spren. If Radiant just died without breaking Oaths spren is alive and I guess just pushed back into Cognitive Realm, so there is no spren body as blade left behind.
  25. Can we really confirm it? We only know that Nale had two Surgebinders of probably Skybreakers Order, but both of them seemed to be new ones, we havnt seen them using Shardblades as if they could do that I guess they woudnt be such pushover for The Sleepless. So it might be that when sprens started bond again in masses Nale was gathering ones of Skybreakers Order while killing all other Orders. I always assumed that Bondsmiths didnt break Oaths because that would kill their sprens. Assuming that there are only few sprens which Bondsmits can bond and Stormfather was one of them and was bonded then fact that he is alive would suggest that his Knight didnt break Oaths. At other hand, " but this was only nine of the ten, as one said they would not abandon their arms and flee, but instead entertained great subterfuge at the expense of the other nine." Words of Radiance, Chapter 38, page 20 " , what Skybreakers doing now is going even beyond subterfuge so maybe it was them. I missed it, or is that from talk between Nale and two journeyman Skybreakers? If Shardbearer mean ability to summon shardblade then it would be from third Oath as thats when spren can transform into weapon. Shallan at end of WoR is one step higher then Kaladin, which probably mean 4th Oath so she should be higher rank
