  1. I wonder, since Forgin works its magic through the Cognitive, but has huge changes in the Physical as a side-effect, can it work on the Spiritual as well? I know Shallan mentions the Spiritual as being a realm of much more solid truths, but I can't help but wonder. If it could be used that way, would you be able to widen some spiritweb cracks for just a little bit? Could be useful.
  2. Shardpools seem to be places were Shardic power leaks out, even if the Shard themselves don't want it to. If they want, they can pull the power back in, but it'll always slowly leak out. The Well is Preservation's, and every 1024 years it becomes loud enough for a powerful Seeker to hear and powerful enough to attach itself to any human and remake the world. The Pool in Elantris looks exactly like the other Shardpools we've seen, so I feel inclined to believe that it's just a different of Intent and possibly broken Shards. EDIT: Semi-ninja'd by PB.
  3. Here's a question though: If you lose your head, does the gold in your stomach still work for you? Can you still burn it in your body? Your head? I'm guessing that you would need gold on/in your head if you wanted to survive decapitation.
  4. Brandon said that Adonalsium was shattered intentionally, so I'm guessing they chose to grab them. Ati likely took Ruin because he felt that it would be better for a more generous person to hold it, and possibly to stop Rayse from getting his hands on it. Alternatively, there's nothing I know of that says it was known or even well-known for such power to develop an intent. Maybe everybody just grabbed a Shard, and centuries later started to change? Makes you wonder why Hoid didn't pick one up though...
  5. Observer suddenly realizes that Adhesion and Cohesion are totally different things, and making that mistake was stupid. I like the idea that he used it to block the Chasmfiend claw, and adhesion is something he might have been using little bits of from time to time, but I doubt it was much. Shardplate seems to mess with Lashings too much, and WoB is that sucking the Stormlignt from Shardplate is really hard, so Dalinar would have to have those spheres on his person. (If he was taking it from Parshendi or during the skirmishes, they'd have noticed and taken them off, like with Kaladin)
  6. What, our puns? No, stopping those would just keep us off of Silence Divine.
  7. Somehow I've been pulled back into this mess, and I'm not even wearing any metal!

    1. Kobold King

      Kobold King

It took me a minute to get that. Clearly it is time to reread Mistborn... also, shame on you. :P

That awful pun thread is infecting me. I really need to stop. It's probably half the reason I haven't fallen back to lurking, the other half being totally unknown to me.

  8. Considering Brandon's wording, I'm guessing Adolin is a red herring. Also, RShara should arrive any second now to provide the WoBs that take me an hour to find saying that the Oathpact is actually still in one piece, and the heralds are still heralds. EDIT: Looks like I win this time.
  9. The instant we bring Vargo into this, we need to move over to the other thread ("Capacity to Save the World") lest we rehash a lot. The issue of this thread has been solved, namely that Curses and Boons are indeed distinct. There's no need to drag arguments already passed by in other thread over into this one.
  10. Only in the MAG. In the second book, it's been noted that it does not explode its own supply.
  11. I'm pretty sure that's just a simile being used, since Heralds are kind of like Roshar's angels, and seeing somebody float down from the sky while glowing gold is going to call up angelic comparisons. Odds are Hoid was using that flute of his on Roshar for a reason, so I'm guessing that he'll be giving it to somebody else, if he dared part with it again.
  12. I appear to be doomed to tread the paths walked long before, confirming but never discovering. Forger is 600, hard bounds as usual. Though I might try to change that soon, provided they stop giving me sporks instead of real silverware...
  13. So, we know he's been using Stormlight. The real question is, has his bond let him use any Surges before? Bondsmiths have what? Cohesion and something else. I'd be tempted to say that he helped hold his Plate together when fighting for Sadeas and escaping the trap, but that's more actual Stormlight usage than Surge usage. Anybody else?
  14. If Snake!(K)Jafar was killed by Kaladin, would he still give a Death Rattle?
  15. When you expect somebody else's deity to kill themselves one day so their followers have to move on.
  16. RShara is going to snipe me on this before I can edit with the quote, but we have WoB that EDIT:
  17. Above all, make sure they've read Warbreaker and maybe Elantris before Words of Radiance.
  18. While I frantically try to come up with more *terrible* puns, I'll use the throwaway line. Shallan's spren knows a lot, but I feel she'd understand more if she had a different type. I guess I'm saying that Pattern is a bit too....Cryptic.
  19. Yeah, it sounds like we're looking for an easy way out here. Brandon likes to keep Boons and Curses vague so we have a whole series to learn about them later. We know that Baxil's partner's relative (sounds like the leadup to a bad joke) got a bundle of cloth as a Boon, and saw the world upside down from then on. There's no immediately obvious single change that could cause that to happen. I think they're different, albeit poorly understood and hidden from the readers for now.
  20. That's what I meant. I was wondering if you could force those cracks into yourself without the trauma, and leave yourself open to either further snapping, if that's possible, or a bond if you were to worldhop.
  21. I'd like to give a second witness to the hard barrier of 575 for Dahkor Monk. Not sure if that's much of a step up from High Prelan though
  22. When you look back on the days when you thought Harry Potter books were big with amusement, and laugh in the face of anybody who thinks 400 pages is long.
  23. Not a bad theory, and I suppose it could work. However, Vin was more of a person that Preservation set up to act in his favor on her own, so that being dead/being blocked wouldn't hinder her progress, like the Inquisitors were for Ruin. While that might actually just be the defenition of a Shardic Champion, I've always felt that it had something more to do with Honor, and whatever rules he might have forced on Odium to keep him near Roshar.
  24. Now, now, there's no reason to fling around downvotes. It's a perfectly reasonable theory, since acting incorrectly is often far worse than doing nothing. It's quite possible the Vargo's boon is to be taken out of the action at a critical moment, where his actions could make or break the world. However, I *strongly* recommend you close this thread and head over to the main topic of Taravangian's boon and curse, or any one of the innumerable splinters. We've already been down this line of thought a few times, so I think we'd be better off not rehashing it here.
  25. If they're resisting reading his work, try The Emperor's Soul. They can snap it up in 90 minutes, and it's actually really good.
