Connections Among all the Magic Systems in the Comere
Natans replied to chronotrigger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What I was trying to say is that I THINK that work in that way. Sorry for the confusion =) "People ask about getting the power from metals and things, but that’s not actually how it works. The power’s not coming from metal. I talked a little about this before, but you are drawing power from some source, and the metal is actually just a gateway. It’s actually the molecular structure of the metal… what’s going on there, the pattern, the resonance of that metal works in the same way as an Aon does in Elantris. It filters the power. So it is just a sign of “this is what power this energy is going to be shaped into and give you.” When you understand that, compounding [in Alloy of Law] makes much more sense." -

Connections Among all the Magic Systems in the Comere
Natans replied to chronotrigger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
"I THINK" (ME, MYSELF ) that Roshar's magic sytems basically work in this way: Surgebinding The sprens, in a rough way, are atracked by certain virtues and when they find someone that REALLY live they lives by this virtues they make a bond (nahel bond) with this person, that ultimately give that person a specific set of surgebind powers(cognitive ideas of forces like gravity and transformation). In a cosmere aproach I would think that when the spren bond with a person they turn in a kind of escape valve/hack of the cognitive realm. The spren make possible to a person have acess to certain forces(surges)(cognitive ideas of forces) in a similar way that a Elantrian have acess to the "cognitive ideas" in their world when they draw Aon to create a certain effect. Think in this way, a spren is like a len("focus") that when a person cast a light("investidude"-stormlight) create a specific spectrum of light (effect-surge-(cognitive ideas of forces). The "intent" is the desire of the user to use his power. In Elantris something similar occur, but the difference is that there the raw investidure(energy) is all trapped inside of the cognitive world creating pressure, what make easy to full the "cognitive ideas" with energy "investidure". An aon works like a valve, how when you open, release "the cognitive idea of a force" defined by the kind o valve used(Aon), in broad way, this is very similar to a surge the difference is that a spren give you acess to a only a few fixed "cognitive ideas of forces" and which person can only "bond" with only a spren so there is a limit what a person can do. A Elantrian can use every aon so in this aspect they have acess do much more "cognitive ideas of forces" to create different effects. Two very similar magic sytems butwith different aspects=) The fabrials The spren ("focus") is trapped in a gem, and when you give stormlight ("investidure") to it you create a effect defined by the kind of spren you trapped. The "intent" here is the the metal frame in the Fabrial that create a pattern in the light cast by the gem. WoR Spoilers So at least Aon e Surgebinds are very similar. -
Someone give this man a internet cookie. LOL

Jezrien told Kalak that everyone would go to different ways and woundn't sought which other, so a kind disagree with the Nalan-Kalak duo. And the Alenthi guy dind't give the right "Kalak vibe" ( he was to whine to subservient). Said this I think that at least one of the heralds must be a player in this series but i'm not sure that Nalan is the Constable, i don't see anything that show that this "Rosharian Man in Black" is Nalan. Upvotes for anything else =)

Sorry for the use of the dark art of necromacy but I would like to revive this thread =) Said this, to me in Roshar the magic sytems basically work in this way: Surgebinding The sprens, in a rough way, are atracked by certain virtues and when they find someone that REALLY live they lives by this virtues they make a bond (nahel bond) with this person, that ultimately give that person a specific set of surgebind powers(cognitive ideas of forces like gravity and transformation). I have a classic opinion about this. To me is basically like Sly said. The sprens, in a rough way, are atracked by certain virtues and when they find someone that REALLY live they lives by this virtues they make a bond (nahel bond) with this person, that ultimately give that person a specific surgebind power. In a cosmere aproach I would think that when the spren bond with a person they turn in a kind of escape valve/hack of the cognitive realm. The spren make possible to a person have acess to certain forces(surges), in a similar way that a Elantrian(and only a Elantrian) have acess to the investidure of their world when them draw Aon to create a certain effect. Think in this way, a spren is like a len(focus) that when a person cast a light(investidude-stormlight) create a specific spectrum of light (effect-surge). In Elantris something similar occur, but the difference is that there the raw investidure(energy) is all trapped inside of the cognitive world and in roshar the investidure naturally leaks in what is known was highstorm. And in Elantris what make possible a person able to acess this power is the reod. In Roshar is the nahel bond with a spren. Two very similar magic sytem =) PS: Another thing to meis that the highstorm are in reality a BIG HOLE in the phisical world thar leaks the investidure present in the cognitive world diretcly in form of energy in Roshar. Together with this hole come the sprens "cognitive being" that are kind of sucked in the phisical world. What made this hole, Honor death. Before him die only a small part of investidure that are used by him and cultivation existed(fewer spren existed), after him the things gonna KABUM =)

A Fullmetal Alchemist parallel wound be valid ?!?! =)

Allow me a second chance =) "Density is mass per volume. The more molecules there are in a fixed volume, the greater the mass and density. But think about it, if there are more molecules there is less free space. Therefore the higher the density, the less free space there is. So in a solid, there is very little space between molecules because the molecules are tightly packed. Because there are so many molecules, the mass is greater and so is the density. (USUALLY) In liquids, the molecules are still touching, but there is space (gaps) between some of the molecules. These gaps make the density lower, this is because there are fewer molecules per fixed volume. In gases there is a lot of space between molecules, meaning there is EVEN fewer molecules in a given volume. Because gases has fewer molecules, the mass is lower. Therefore gas has the lowest density. The less space between molecules, the more molecules there are. More molecules=greater density=less space between molecules. Conversely, If there is a lesser amount of molecules, there is more space between molecules and less density." So maybe the "superficial tension" surge is related to the density of things ? Make something more or less dense (hard/soft) ? (I give up, I'm a law school graduate, science definitly isn't my strong point) Someone have any theory about what could make a towel hard was rock in a pseudo-scientific way =)

Molecular Integrity. If you "space the distance between the atoms" of a object they became fragile, If you condense they became hard.(strong/weak molecular force?) =)

Hahaha I'm noticing a trend here, I never knew that Mr.Sanderson are a Bully =)

If we put in Stormlight terms. Brandon is the crazy cook and Peter is the Ardent woman good in math, I see....... If I was Peter I not completly sure that I would like this kind of "homage" made by my boss =) Just kinding =)

The fight will occur before or after Rock throw Kaladin of a cliff ? =)

Semantics =) If he used the blade he would have cutted the gate not banged But a get what you said no more arguing of my part =)
-
He used the Blade to cut the lock but crashed down the gates =)

Someone call "Lady Sabrina Stormshardor" or "Master Isomere" to do the honor, after all theirs threads are the prelude of all "Mordern Surge/ Order Tables" discusion in this forum

I must respectly disagree "in a minor point" . Kaladin is leading 1000 Bridgeman, and from the reading of his 1 chapter he doing very well. Dalinar and many other people noticed that Kaladin act like a "Brightlord" and we know that he protects those around him. So in my book, if the 3º ideal of his order are related with leading he can't be very far from discovery, because he is a born leader. Edited for the fun =)

Every time he appear there is odd shadows reference coincidence? For now it's just a guess but I woudn't be suprised if he "awesomeness" as related with shadows in some way =)

Recent interview about About the Alethi looks. Better yet how Shallan looks To be honest I never saw a half-Hawaiian, half-Asians person, so i googled that and the best that I finded was this. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5sNiS-cF8BI/S8T66pjxqCI/AAAAAAAAAC8/BK-LtB1njJ4/s1600/part+asian.jpg And about Rambo Kalladin, the first time that a looked to that red ribbon I imagined Rambo fighting Szeth with an .50 machinegun =)
-
Mr. Argent, there is also this part in the Ym interlude. So he use shadow "surge". The question is, his power are radiant origin or we are looking to the very fisrt voidbringer surge here ?
-
I think they will make Kalladin less caucasian, the "Rambo Kalladin" in the WOR don't match the in book description of a Alethi person =)
-
I agree with the order but a don't like the "superstrenght" surge idea. Superface tension, I will need google that =) Edit. But having a second thought Tal broke the Kholinar gate using fist as battering ram, so maybe there is something here. huhhh
