  1. Thanks. This is helpful. But you have Gecko’s vote on Weasel still, which should be on Swan only. So as things stand now, Swan is getting lynched. This is interesting. Let’s look at who’s voting on Swan. Gecko: seems like a vote in retaliation to Swan’s vote on them, which was later retracted. Bad reason. Meerkat: trying to generate discussion and provide an alternative candidate for the lynch. Guess that worked. Had mild elim suspicions on Swan. Axoltol: Had vague “suspicions” of Swan, and wanted a tied vote, though I would like to point out that if that’s really their motive than they should probably retract their vote on Swan to re-tie things. It’s not the worst reason for a lynch, but I would like more of an explanation if they’re keeping their vote on Swan. Zebra: Just jumped into the game and joined the lynch based on a elim read on Swan and the potential for the lynch to provide info. So we have four players voting for different reasons on the same person. An active one at that too, though Swan can’t really complain about that given his strong stance against lynching inactives. With that said, do we want to lynch Swan? If so, we need to consolidate votes. The problem with the 3 votes on Dingo is that a Bondsmith or Willshaper could easily tie or swing the vote (not to mention that there may be multiple of each, with some being Elims). People with only 1 vote on them aren’t likely to be lynched, so unless we want a last-second bandwagon on one of them, those votes could help solidify the lynch on Swan. The alternative to Swan is Dingo, who I’d like to lynch. He’s made a lot of short posts that don’t contribute much, and I don’t like the fact that given multiple opportunities to explain himself, he has not done so. His vote on Mouse seems strange, and his proclivity for avoiding attention by not posting comes across as suspicious to me. Plus, I’d rather not kill an active member of the village over a semi active one who hasn’t helped much. Just my two cents, but as I said, if we want to swing this lynch we should do it now.
  2. A few hours having passed with no response from Melon Dingo, my vote will go on him until he steps forward and makes actual commentary on the lynch. With no real recent developments and the vote looking fairly stable, a vote count would be nice. I think Dingo’s getting lynched if nothing changes, but I would like confirmation (and I’d like to see how susceptible the lynch is to vote manipulation).
  3. Well, against my better judgement, Gecko. There’s nothing really incriminating against him unless, as Axoltol said, you go into IKYK. I still can’t shake the feeling he’s elim, but the case against him is on really shaky grounds, so he should probably be let live. That said, I’m not sure I want to actually vote on anyone. Swan’s vote on Axoltol was done for little to no reason, and while Swan generally confuses me he/she is hard to build a real case against. Our other lynch candidates are lurkers, Dingo and Penguin, which may be a good place to start. Of the two, Dingo seems more suspect, but I’ll give him the chance to respond fully to the accusations against him before placing a vote on him. @Melon Dingo
  4. I’m a he. And, I might add, Jasnah’s Spren is Ivory and he is also male. I have no control over my username. In light of recent arguments (one my own) supporting the idea that Gecko is village, I’m tempted to remove my vote from him. However, one element I had not previously considered gives me pause. Gecko knew his posting would attract attention, and lynch votes. Once these votes are down, however, most of us come to the logical conclusion that an elim wouldn’t draw attention to himself like that; therefore, he’s probably just a villager trying to be deliberately confusing. We begin to look elsewhere for, and eventually find, alternative targets for the lynch. This is a win for elim!Gecko, who has been looked at and passed over on the first cycle, giving him several rounds before we begin to suspect him again. While “strange villager Gecko” is more likely than “applying advanced levels of reverse psychology Gecko,” we shouldn’t dismiss the second possibility out of hand. So for now, my vote stays where it is. Especially considering that the lynch is splitting back up, having a bit of stability is welcome, I think. @Violet Axolotl I agree that I would like to avoid a lynch, but seeing as one is inevitable, I’d like to take a player that’s openly suspicious and active. It’ll give us a larger info base to lynch Gecko than if we just killed a lurker, though I’ll agree that I don’t appreciate having them around. We can lynch them later if they seem suspicious.
  5. I have no intention of giving up, I’m simply trying to make the same point you are: experience doesn’t matter. I don’t want people to not lynch me just because I’m newer; in fact, that kind of defeats the point of a lynch (to kill the most likely suspect). I will defend myself against a lynch on me, I’m just saying that I understand where people are coming from. @Coral Swan I’m actually kind of worried about the Gecko lynch, as the random voting seems a little odd for an Elim. By voting strangely, and then refusing an explanation, he must have known he would make himself a target. If he was Elim, why would he expose himself like this? This makes me think he might be village, but I’ll keep my vote on him for now because there aren’t really better alternatives, and even if he’s doing it intentionally, the voting is Elim-like behavior, and the explanation-less votes don’t help the village. His recent vote on you, however, seems calculated to generate a response. I’m not really sure what to make of this, but I’ll stay the course for now. Hopefully we’ll learn more upon his death (if the lynch on him solidifies).
  6. I see your point, though I would point out that the chance of hitting an inactive Elim is always present, so it’s not only helpful to the Elims to lynch an inactive, though I suppose with the pinch hitter mechanic it’s less useful in this game. And from a statistical standpoint we are more likely to hit a villager. However, I don’t particularly see how lynching a contributing member is any better. We kill an active participant, but we still gain little info in regards to the other players (unless early comments about them count). Added to that, if lynching an inactive is really as bad as you say, than I will revert to my original position that I don’t want a D1 lynch. I just don’t see what it will really tell us. You’d have to lynch someone that nearly everyone has commented on. And right now, that person is...me. So maybe I should vote myself if that will help the village gain info? While it may be in the village’s best interests, my selfish desire for self-preservation will prevent me from pulling a stunt like that. While I appreciate that you are defending me, this is not the best path for the village. If people are suspicious of me, they should lynch me. In fact, my relative inexperience in the game may actually make a lynch on me helpful, as you won’t have to deal with my naïve comments and misguided votes, even if I am a villager. I honestly should have followed a few more games of SE before joining this one- I may have been too excited to start playing, even if I did go back and read through some old game threads. If I’m lynched early here, I can always join the next game, and perhaps with a bit more experience so I don’t get lynched D1. Plus, my lynch will provide information. I’m not saying I want out of this game, I’m simply saying that you should do what’s best for the village, as my feelings won’t be hurt if you lynch me. But I’ll fight to stay in as long as I can. For now, that includes moving my vote onto Taupe Gecko, if I’m voting on an active player, for his seemingly random voting patterns.
  7. Could I have a reason as to why I am being voted on? I’ve tried to contribute to discussion frequently, and while I have changed my stance on the lynch somewhat, I hadn't taken several facts into consideration that I should have. While I dislike playing the “new” card, it was mainly my inexperience that led to my initial full opposition to the D1 lynch. I’m fine with a vote on me based on the content of my posts, but I would appreciate an explanation as to why. Edit: Since Violet Axoltol just showed up, I’m removing my vote on them. You’re fine, glad you’ve joined us! @Violet Axolotl
  8. You’re probably right, looking back at the game intro. For some reason, I had interpreted it as being set on one of the Horneater Peaks on present-day Roshar, but your view makes much more sense. I fixed the original RP to reflect this. As for the rest of the discussion, Gecko isn’t really being helpful in explaining his seemingly random votes, but I haven’t really seen enough to convince me to move my vote to him. He could just be playing in a manner that makes his alignment difficult to discern, and while it’s annoying, I don’t think it justifies a lynch at this point in the game. I’ll wait and see what else unfolds, though. I concur with Scarlet Octopus that it is strange that @Sage Kangaroo is concerned about lynching an Elsecaller. Other than their ability to survive the lynch and spitefully take revenge on those who lynched them by voting for them in turn, I don’t really see a reason to fear lynching an Elsecaller. The only situation that may muddy the waters would be if the Elims pushed a lynch on their Elsecaller teammate in some kind of weird WGG, but I find that unlikely. But I’m getting sidetracked! @Sunburst Toucanthank you for the vote count. Looking at it, our votes are very spread out. Do we want to consolidate votes on 1 or 2 players, or leave them the way they currently are? If we’re serious about a D1 lynch, than we should maybe start picking a few players we think are suspect. Again, I’d rather not lynch (or if I do, than I’d like to lynch an inactive), but if the village thinks someone needs to be lynched, maybe we should start moving votes now. @Scarlet Octopus While it is entirely possible that we do have a village Dustbringer, we should still use the lynch at some point to kill those who we suspect. Coupled with the fact that the Elims might actually have the Dustbringer, and that we can’t tell our Dustbringer who to kill if we find them (that’d be like painting a huge target on their back), the lynch is still our best method of killing Elims. If a villager finds the Dustbringer, they should probably not tell anyone in the interest of keeping them alive. My opposition to the D1 lynch stems from my dislike of having to lynch an active player with no real evidence against them, not from my dislike of the lynch itself. Again, I’m fine with a D1 lynch of an inactive.
  9. Nolan raised his eyebrow in surprise. He hadn’t expected that his comment about the sleeping villager would be interpreted as a call for violence and accusations. He just hoped that whoever it was would contribute to the discussion about the blacksmith. The whole village would need to solve this together. And with the fires slowly creeping up the mountain, enemies drawing nearer each day... He would admit that he was perhaps not in the best position to be accusing a sleeping villager. He was running on fumes, staying up late to research and rising early each morning to spend time with his children; then, back to the library he went. He could hardly expect others to share his proclivity for sleep deprivation. His research... he didn’t want to think about that. The last book was on the Knights Radiant, and he was struggling with it. Mainly, because it suggested that its words were true because they contradicted religion, not in spite of it. While he should have dismissed it out of hand, being written by a heretic, its arguments were so well written that he had trouble disagreeing. What if religion only held part of the truth about the Heralds and the Desolations? It was a scary thought, one that he tried not to consider. But he had to. He had been instructed in religion, and if he could not refute the heretic’s claims with his extensive study, perhaps it was time to start believing him. Of course, Vorinism still held truth, more than any other religion, certainly. He made his way to the small chapel, deep in thought. He would pray, burn a glyphward, and talk to the ardents. Then, back to the library. I will be going to church for the next 3 or 4 hours, so don’t expect me to respond immediately to comments. I will be back shortly afterward, however.
  10. That’s mostly because it is; I’ve never played SE before, as I said in my second post. I’m grateful that Kangaroo has come out and outlined his positions on the D1 lynch, even if I don’t agree with some of them, as it has helped me gain insight as to how most SE players think. As for the rest of your post, you spend a good chunk of analysis attempting to identify Kangaroo. I may have a simple answer: TheMightyLopen. Looking at previous SE games, he is the only one who uses with such frequency. (Well, Brightness Radiant does too, but the speech patterns don’t match up.) Of course, I may well be wrong, as it could be an imitator trying to get us to think he’s Lopen, or just my own misinterpretation of the situation. But the possibility is there. You also attempt to understand why Kangaroo is worried about Elsecallers, quote his line about Elsecallers, and then proceed to talk about Edgedancers. It seems like an honest mistake, I just wanted to point that out so you don’t read too deep into that comment. At least, concerning Edgedancers. Personally, I’m unsure why he fears hitting an Elsecaller above roles like Skybreaker which let us investigate people, so maybe he did mean Edgedancer? I don’t really know. @Sunburst Toucan It’s more of a poke vote on a player that hasn’t been active yet to try and get them to post. I’d rather not lynch anyone D1, as I’ve said, but I would like some discussion. I don’t think Axoltol is an Elim (I hardly have any evidence to substantiate that, do I?) but since most of the discussion has been RP and animals, no one has really struck me as Elim yet. That said, if you know a lurker instead of someone that hasn’t logged on at all, I’d be happier voting on them.
  11. I’m not saying I’m unwilling to lynch a player D1, I’m just saying that I find it distasteful. The best way to go about it is to place votes on inactives, as they will be less affected if lynched, but if everyone chimes in on the game I’d rather not lynch anyone for at least the first turn. I would rather have good discussion among all members of the village. That being said, your point about likely hitting a villager is valid, so in retrospect “we’ll probably kill a villager” isn’t the greatest reason to abandon the lynch, especially with it being our only kill (unless the Dustbringer is village). I still just don’t like the idea of killing a player before the game really has even begun and with nothing but vague evidence. However, even that probably isn’t a good enough reason to abandon the lynch, so I advocate that others use their votes. I just might not use mine, especially if everyone contributes to the discussion. Anyway, it’s past my bedtime and I should go to sleep, but I will probably have more thoughts in the morning.
  12. As amazingly fun as it is to discuss weird names (I have up to 4 animal or animal parts in mine [ivory, dragon, fly, dragonfly]), maybe we should consider if/who we should lynch. Personally, a D1 lynch doesn’t appeal to me, as we are likely to hit a villager, but the threat of a lynch (combined with the threat of getting replaced by a pinch-hitter) can make people be more active and start generating some game discussion. I’ll place a vote on Violet Axoltol in the hopes that they will join us and start discussing the game, and will rescind it if he or she posts. Does anyone know how to color a vote red? (First-time SE-er here, sorry) It needs to work on mobile, as my computer is 6 years old and malfunctioning. Edit: @Violet Axolotl
  13. Nolan rubbed his eyes, clearing out the smoke. So many fires these days. Omnipresent at times, it even seemed. It seemed hard to remember a time without the thick smoke clogging the air of the village. Of course, those fires hadn’t prevented him from visiting the small library near the mountaintop, as was his habit; if anything, it had driven him there. He needed answers. Many around him claimed to have seen Knights Radiant, a sign that ancient days were upon them. And yet, when given the opportunity to study abroad in his youth, he had chosen religion. A worthy pursuit, to be sure, but nothing in it seemed to be of any use to the village. He certainly wasn’t becoming an ardent. Not with his past. He shoved those thoughts aside, returning to the task at hand. Surgebindings. A small book about them lay on the table in front of him, spared by chance from the small puddle of drool around his mouth from his nap. Nolan grimaced. He shouldn’t be staying up so late researching. His family was certainly concerned, especially after the death of the blacksmith. But that would not stop him. He needed to figure out as much as he could about these Surges. Unfortunately, the book he held was nearly useless. It was large, but said little about anything at all. References to the False Desolation certainly didn’t help its case. It seemed to regard it as real, and even had the audacity to claim Voidbringers had survived Aharietiam. Well, his religious studies had taught him something, and that was clearly not the case. He sighed, replacing the book on its shelf. Only one book left to find the truth, if it lay there. Or the village would burn completely.
