Anniversary Game 8 / AN11: Back to Beginnings
Saffron Iguana replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Is that a baby horse task, because it looks like a foal's errand. Meerkat reevaluates a lot and follows multiple lines of inquiry right up until the very end. Interesting that you don't believe a Village vote manipulation role might have taken a liking to you and helped you out, or that a villager really wanted to Croc dead and your potential death was getting in the way of that. I'm not sure if you're lying or not to protect your role, but I won't push that any further. I can answer a lot of your suspicions with my cosmetic role is Helpful Heckler. I wasn't planning on voting that round if I hadn't had to. It's a conscious, experimental playstyle choice. -

Are you freezing my objections, because icy no problem with this situation. The three main wagons made up 12 of the 17 votes, so I imagine some of the five to seven Spiked voted for us. I was waiting to comment on the vote manipulation until Gorilla did, but they also ignored it. @Turquoise Gorilla? I'm very interested in where your vote will go next round. Lion's too, if they vote. Let me call that cat back here to say if they have an answer to any of the questions they've posed. Here, kitty quody, pspspsscripsiscripsi. * Vulture asked why I chose Crocodile over Gorilla. I considered trying to reference the Bruno Mars song but the Crocodile pun came easier so I went with that. I also thought I might be able to get Gorilla to move their vote and better my odds of survival, but I didn't read their post closely enough about why they picked me otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. -

Are you a disappointing candy given with the cheque at a restaurant, because you're not Mint. I didn't think you were them, I was merely reminded that evil players have in past used thread summaries to bulk up their posts to make their late votes look more reasoned and less like vote manipulation. Thanks for noting Dingo's presence. I suspect several Spiked were on near the end of that round, hence my interest in you at the moment. My assumption is that villagers usually smoke during the day to prevent vote manipulation and the Spiked smoke at night to prevent alignment scans, unless in forgetting something. -

Hey Swan, do you get your fortune told by a magical crone, because we've both been reading books by Anthony Horo(scope)witch. This post and vote from Scorpion: Had the same timing and style as evil Heron's from LG79 D3. So I don't trust it. I also disliked Albatross' vote because it was cast to make a tie, not because they had reasonable suspicions of me. But I hadn't yet cast my vote, so Albatross' approach could not be in defence of one of the leading candidates because they had to know I would vote in self preservation and possibly put their teammate in even more danger if I was threatened. So I tried going after them, then thought better of it and saved my own reptilian skin. Sorry, Crocodile. Your reads list formatting really was pretty. -

But you could be fire! I'm impressed! I see any post without the name of someone else in it as more NAI than not, namely rules discussion. You can frame it as me trying to mislead you into not being worried enough about Spiked Lurchers, but it'd be a high profile move for little gain if I was. About the Chameleon note, I imagine the Spiked do have some idea of who a potential fall person might be. Earlier in the round, Chameleon was probably it because a number of people suspected them for over-explaining their vote on me. They would likely rather a predictable outcome than risk a situation where one or two sudden vote shifts can cause them to lose one of their own to the execution. -

Hey, have you stolen three letters, because I love that you have a P, N, O. I respect that you've committed to your read. I've been giving commentary as I go that you can read into, I think you're just confused that I haven't consolidated it or cast a vote. Neither of those are likely to change very soon, so here, let me say something insightful. The amount of Octopus RP posts makes me suspicious of them. I'll take that deal. The Spiked need PMs less than the village does, because they have a doc to conspire in. PMs can be used to extract secrets sometimes, but they benefit more from a village that can't blindside them with secret discussions. So the Tineye is generally a village role, but I can imagine the mischievous GMs giving it to the Spiked so we have to make the choice between killing a suspect who claims Tineye and being able to communicate in private. -

Hey Torquoise, are you a turtle, because you're almost a tortoise. Two votes is hardly a done deal. If you'd be willing to vote for me if you weren't the leading target, I'd rather you do that than vote strategically in self-preservation early. No sense arbitrarily limiting your options just yet. Unlike Meerkat, who is in the unfortunate position of not being able to effort clear individuals without looking self congratulatory, I am quite comfortable believing that both they and Vulture are far too committed to analysis to be evil. @Amber Vulture, your post is making strange things happen for mobile users though, I'm sorry to say. I hope your alignment gets confirmed soon so I can lazily rely on that as a cheat sheet summary. -

Seems like you're playing hy ena seek. My initial read of this was that you're delaying your vote on Chameleon in case the Spiked plan to make them the primary target today is changed, but I hope to be proved wrong. If they're village and the Cham vote falls through, the Spiked have probably prepared ways to subtly move their votes or have held votes in reserve in case one of their own becomes the likely target. This kind of hedging, the important need to sleep aside, looks like that. The Reptile Gang appreciates your support in our fight for dominance. Swan, take notes. That's how you use them unsuspiciously. -

Are you a gardener? Because you're hedging right now. I particularly dislike that you've planned out placing your vote late in the round. Relatedly, there's been as many "my vote might change" asterisks going around as there's been votes with such blatantly poor reasoning that their casters must be village. My experience aligns with one of those individual's. Like Meerkat, I received PMs from Scorpion and Albatross. If it helps, most of us can be called by color names instead. -

Are you turning me into moss, because I'm lichen... your attention to detail! I assume that any Coinshot in play will shoot tonight, except perhaps for a hesitant village one. I also assume that if there is a Spiked Coinshot, there will also be a village one, so if there's three kills, we know to watch out. The Mistborn having a kill and a very protection-role-heavy village distribution might disrupt these assumptions, but that is where I was coming from with that comment. I think how focused someone is on the end of the game is directly related to how optimistic they are. Octopus thinks this will go down to the wire, so I think they need a hug. You can't decline, I know for a fact you have at least two arms that you aren't using right now you. -

Are you adept at uncovering the happy quests of a popular cereal company, because you've spotted a cheery o-mission! That was just a mistake. Spiked Seekers would be after Smokers on the list. Care to share the names of those who asked for your role? I was going to mention that. Unless you're adding your own commentary, quoting people like they did isn't very helpful. Sorry, Gorilla. Thanks for asking good questions though! Yeah, if we all claimed to random different people, it's likely that at least one of us would accidentally speak to someone evil. Whereas if all of us claimed to the same person, there would only a one in four chance of catastrophic failure! -

Hey Hyena, are you a singularly focused herb collector, because based on the size of that post I disagree, it seems you have a lot of thyme! Thank you for the reads list. You may want to consider using a quote box for them to differentiate your reads and votes if you're planning on using red and green. I think wanting to start the voting early is a good approach, but I question the contrast between your strong argument earlier and your retraction now. I'd be willing to believe that an opinionated villager would write as unusually much as you did about their first vote if they thought they were on to something, but I feel like that type of individual would have seen the subsequent pushback as confirmation that they were right and not be as introspective as you have been. If your prices are reasonable, I would like to buy another please! If they aren't, put it on my tab. Hard to tell if that's the government issued variety or the Freudian kind. This theory will be tested soon enough, assuming our Coinshot chooses to shoot tonight. A Village Lurcher must predict the Spiked's target to be successful. A Spiked Seeker must find a role worth killing to be really successful, such as the Coinshot, otherwise their job is relegated to checking potential Night Kill targets to see if they are Thugs or not. The common connection is both face low odds of success because there are many players they might target who would waste their time, either because the Spiked target someone else with their kill, or because they scan as a Regular villager. When the teams are swapped, their abilities become more powerful. A Village Seeker can check alignments and a Spiked Lurcher can protect their most suspected teammates, which is a much smaller pool. My power rankings for the Spiked would be Coinshot, Mistborn (because it's a village-seeming role), Thug (because they can block Day kills too), Lurcher, Smoker, Soother, Rioter, Tineye. For the village, I'd rank them Coinshot, Seeker, Mistborn (they'll be useful to us about half of the time), Lurcher, Thug, Tineye (depends how you value PMs), Soother, Rioter, Smoker (who only really shines against late-game Spiked vote manipulation or if contacted by a power role in need of concealment). -

Perhaps a Venn, um, Diagram would help clarify things. Or perhaps not. I'll leave it at bold of you to assume that the GMs didn't take LG74 as a challenge. Lurchers are to the village what Seekers are to the Spiked. The size of this group makes them oh my is that octopus holding a dagger -

Whoops! It's like I've been notified that someone saw my instant message over here, because hello, re(a)d text alert! I thought Chameleons liked duplication. Guess that only applies to colors, not rulesets. How come you labelled the Seeker as a power role for the Spiked when its most potent use, alignment scanning, only benefits the village? -

Saffron Iguana replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Are you a good ship design, because you should be prowed. Of those thoughts. They're very insightful! I used LG74 as a baseline because it should be the most up to date with the current meta. The rules are versatile enough that surprises like all Spiked Seekers and four Smokers can be included, so the most reliable takeaway is that it is likely two thirds of us have roles, the Spiked probably have around one of each, and the village likely has one Tineye (unless they're evil), one Coinshot, one Mistborn, and one to two of every other role, except for the ones the game masters distributed in an intentionally baffling way. The more important question is why did Coral Swan and Salmon Meerkat get to double dip on animals when creating their names? Possibly Oxblood too, if you accept broad interpretations. -

Saffron Iguana replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thank you for the facelift, @DrakeMarshall! I feel like a spy, I'm undercolor and anonymoose. The last Tyrian Falls game was LG74. 21% of the 28 players were Spiked: two Seekers, a Rioter, a Smoker, a Tineye, and a Lurcher. A similar ratio would give us 5 Spiked for this game, perhaps with the same roles, minus the duplication. The village had 9 Regulars, two Thugs, four Smokers, two Soothers, a Rioter, a Tineye, a Coinshot, a Lurcher, and a Mistborn. The excessive Smokers would probably be the ones to go, then I imagine the distribution is largely similar. -

FOTS is where elims go to hide from village votes. But since you started on it, and I think starting positions were random (right?), it does seem more likely laziness than a long term plan to dodge an exe. This D1 flip has resulted in 3 going on 4 elim flips, so I suspect it was not a bus. If it was, it wasn't a planned decision from the start. I have the confidence of a person who likely will not be exed, so I can throw out ideas and relent if strong counter-arguments are made. : P I think elims would hold off revealing their Shardic powers the longest because that gives them flexibility. As such, Devotion and Dominion remaining hidden (from me at least) is suspicious to me. Even if they are not a Shard, I still think having an inactive elim in the group makes sense. I agree with that assessment, and admit I voted the same way as a villager and it doesn't mean anything. However, I find it hard to believe that over the Day, not a single elim voted. That's why I'm looking at the voting list for suspects. The three individuals I mentioned are the most suspicious to me, so thank you all for responding to my accusations.- 1222 replies

@Amber Vulture you say here that Octopus voted D1. That's incorrect. Re: Here's a list of when everyone voted last round. Bold indicates a switch. Colors are based on my current reads. Ignore the different shades of green. Axolotl (Rhino), Hyena (Rhino), Lion (Ostrich), Mouse (Rhino), Flamingo (Rhino), Zebra (Rhino), Albatross (Rhino), Dingo (Rhino), Scorpion (Rhino), Swan (Rhino), Iguana (Rhino), Mouse (Ostrich +Big Post), Ostrich (Rhino), Axolotl (Ostrich), Lion (Ostrich again), Swan (Ostrich), Zebra (Ostrich), Dingo (Ostrich), Kangaroo (Ostrich), Elephant (Ostrich), [Ostrich starts openwolfing] Flamingo (Ostrich), Vulture (Ostrich), Gorilla (Lion) You did indeed vote before Mouse's post that was the catalyst for the new wagon. I believe that you went offline before the counter-bus picked up steam. At that time, the elims probably were planning to bus Rhino. After Ostrich was called out by Mouse, they probably decided to bus Ostrich instead for village cred. Elim!Albatross would have been offline for that and missed that change in plan. Swan and Zebra's two votes brought Ostrich onto the chopping block, which looks good for them. Unless they timed their bussing well. Swan comes out looking the best from the null gang, then Zebra, then Albatross.- 1222 replies

More reads, because I read in my January issue of Technology Trends that that's what the industry leaders are doing these days. And if I do it at night, I can color people's names without confusing the GMs. Player List -Amber Vulture - Voted for Croc. It is bad strategy for an elim team to allow a teammate to flip in the first round. I believe one of the voters for Croc would have crossed over to Kangaroo if they saw what was happening, so I have decided to trust everyone who voted for Croc. -Amethyst Scorpion – Scans have been helpful for the village -Azure Mouse – Scans have been helpful for the village. -Fuchsia Ostrich – Probably Odium, for reasons stated by Mouse. Sus for not disclosing their Mercy protection. -Pearl Chameleon - I think they are likely Devotion or Dominion. Due to their inactivity, it is hard to say much else about them. I think the elims may have a splinter on their team, and having an inactive teammate may also be a reason for their troubles. This would not be my first pick for a mobbing, but I am hoping to get the chance to talk to them soon. -Magenta Albatross – Rhino (Mercy) was dead either way last round. It would have been better for the Elims if they had died as the result of the mobbing, rather than flipping elim while dying to protect Odium!Ostrich. Albatross voted Rhino, along with me and Ostrich. I can understand if they simply did not want to change wagons, but if the elims made the call to protect Ostrich by exing Rhino, it makes sense to me that two of them would have hopped on that bus and stuck with it. -Ivory Dragonfly – Scans have been helpful for the village. -Melon Dingo – Ruin, who for balance reasons cannot be an elim. -Onyx Flamingo – D1 voted for Croc. Sussed me just now, which an elim would avoid, given I am trusted village by Mouse and Lion (per their public reads). An elim would know better than to make a controversial read like that. I am however curious how they survived in the Rosharan system for so long. -Opal Lion – Voted for Croc -Sage Kangaroo – Voted Croc -Violet Axolotl – Voted for Croc -Charcoal Hyena – Survival. Possible explanation for one of the ‘attacked but survived’s? Those remain unresolved, which I’m guessing means the Elim team made a stab at someone and were roleblocked/redirected/protected etc. -Sapphire Elephant – Autonomy. I appreciate their response to my comments last night. Their defence is that they only need two more cycles to win. Depending on how many elims remain and when people start taking shots with their kill powers, this game may end before that. That said, their best strategy probably revolves around working with Ruin and hoping the game drags a little longer, which is quite possible, so I believe them when they say they will not work against the village at this point. -Turquoise Gorilla - Invention -Coral Swan – Null. I could search for posts of theirs to analyze, but that would imply that they have made more of an impression on me than they have. I have yet to interact with them, or any of the other nulls, and they haven’t said anything AI, in my opinion. -Cream Tuatara - Null -Indigo Weasel - Null -Scarlet Octopus - Null -Quartz Zebra – Null. Last night I threw a bunch of thoughts out there then went to bed. They have yet to respond, and, re-reading the thread, don’t really need to. I find it curious that they don’t want any PMs, but I see no immediate reason to pursue further questioning of them. Although Flamingo makes a good point about them being on FOTS a lot. @Pearl Chameleon are you Devotion or Dominion? Sorry to put you on the spot like this. Neither of those are high value night kill targets however, and it seems likely that the reason no one has claimed those two roles (to my knowledge) is because those that have them have been largely inactive. Would it be a good Elim strategy to kill off all the non Shards? Not to brainstorm ideas for them, but the pool of those has actually grown rather small. Six I believe, and one of those might be an Elim. *tinkers tinkeringly*- 1222 replies

GM question: if a non-Shard starts the game with a role like Poisoner or 17th Sharder and they are given a Shard before dying, in the announcement of their death, would their original role be noted, or would they simply show up as a Shard? * I'm mostly interested in if Plum had any items that could have affected the game. Stuff that would have provided knowledge the Elims used as the basis for an action, for example. If it was all one-use stuff that was unused, it shouldn't be consequential. Hyena, you implied you would vote to advantage the village once you got one more vote on a villager in, but don't you get removed from the game when you complete your win con? I am going to start considering Elephant to be one of the Elim team. They need to slow down the village to complete their wincon. I would do the same in their shoes. Opal, if they have a PM with Ostrich, that should be closed. We should begin discussing who to exe tomorrow. Assuming Ostrich is killed by a role or item tonight, we will need a new target. How about Zebra? They could have avoided PMs to keep from having to claim. Edit: I had a Shadesmar PM with Rhino and we discussed photocopiers.- 1222 replies

Point of clarification, @Azure Mouse, if my memory serves, you had Rhino down as a non-Shard in your chart. What caused the confusion? Hey @Opal Lion could I please get a PM with Chameleon? I feel some empathy for a fellow punch hitter, although perhaps having a low activity player on their team has been the cause of some of the elims' troubles. Hey Nalthis gang, did Elephant have anything interesting? I've said it privately but in the spirit of open conversation, I suspect the elim team has a splinter on it. That just seems like a good way to distribute the roles between the factions.- 1222 replies

Saffron Iguana replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It's possible an Elim voted Croc and didn't want to switch off, lest they look suspicious, but I find it more likely that they tried to save their teammate from a D1 vote and there are no elims who voted for Croc. That said, I believe I now know the alignment of everyone who voted for Kangaroo and Octopus, so D1 vote leads besides have been exhausted, unless anyone is inclined to believe Mint Heron was killed for voting Octopus and not for being Prudence. I'd still like to know why they chose Penguin as their night kill victim. If only I could invent a way to speak to the dead! Perhaps our resident Returned could provide some pointers on that... We lack a good way of blocking Mercy's vote. They'll likely protect Rhino regardless of their alignment because they know we'll mob them tomorrow if we do not succeed today. I believe the best way forward is for us to narrow the field of who we need to roleblock or kill. I suggest that anyone who is a Shard tells a trusted villager which one they are. Then our investiture scanners analyze the remaining pool to find who is Mercy and Odium. The most trustworthy person in my estimation is Kangaroo, so I have told them my Shard's power. I suggest others do the same so they can validate you are not an OC. And if you're a non Shard, that would be valuable information too because it narrows down the suspect pool of who may be the OC Shards. Right now, based on what is known, that pool stands at nine people. But if people who are known as Shards but have yet to say which one offer up confirmation of their AC nature, we can narrow that down to six.- 1222 replies
