    Nogard looked around nervously as the ground began to rumble. "Uh, Shoe? Have any more of those muffins?" Selppaenip bowed. "I have failed you once, great master. I will not do so again." He strode confidently out into the street, walked ten blocks to the end, then returned (stopping along the way to tie up a band of attempted muggers). "I have completed the task," Selppaenip announced.

    Nogard sighed. Oh, well. Maybe the goblins would listen to him anyway? "Hey everyone!" he called, pointing at the wall. "We need to work together to get through that! Or over it, or under it, or... well, we'll figure it out."

    Even that's more of a guideline than a rule. There are characters that can be controlled by anyone, for instance.

    Selppaenip's eyes flared with bloodlust as he whipped out his katanas. "Pineapples? Where are the pineapples? They will perish on my blades!" (He had certainly not scratched out the word pineapple on reflex when he read the shopping note. What a preposterous idea.)

    "Very well," bloomed Selppaenip, taking the piece of paper and striding forth. He went to the hardware store first. There he obtained the showerhead (as well as the 5 dozen eggs, stolen from a giant spider hiding in the plumbing isle). Next, he went to an office supply store. There he obtained the 2 extra large notebooks (as well as the 16 candlesticks, recovered from a demonic summing ritual behind the printers). The 7 potatoes and 13 pounds of sugar he purchased from the nearest Wal-Mart. With his winnings safely stored in his bag, Selppaenip returned triumphantly to ...'s house. "I have completed your task, wise one."

    "Hah!" replied Selppaenip. "I'd like to see the challenge that could take me down."

    While the universe waited for Wit to respond, Selppaenip reached the house of ... . "I have defeated your enemy, as requested," he boomed. "I have come to learn how to be... average."

    Nogard made a mental note to ask about Yrank's previous goblin escapades at a later date, then went back to waiting for the goblin leader to answer.

    "Right," muttered Nogard. "Wings. He has wings." He braced himself against a rock in the ground as goblins bounced and wailed around him. Nogard glanced back and forth between the flying figure and the goblin leader, an idea forming. "Hey!" he called. "Goblin Leader! What do you think about working together to take down him?" He gestured to Falvan.

    Nogard leaped into the air, letting out a violent cry as he stabbed downwards.

    Nogard dodged out of the way, then ran at Falvan, snatching a spear from a passing goblin.

    Nogard's screams of terror died off into confusion. He glanced around at his fellow adventurers, his expression growing more and more perplexed. After a moment pondering, he shrugged and stepped out of the cage.

    The metal of the cage melted where the fire touched it.

    Nogard screamed as the fire engulfed him.

    Nogard gasped. "We've been betrayed? ...wait, but why? What does Woe get out of all this?"

    "Do either of you know what's going on here?" Nogard asked desperately.

    "Hey, wait a minute!" Nogard stared at Wit. "What's going on here? Why are a we in a cage? Why are you not in the cage?" He pointed at Falvan. "And who's this joker?"

    Nogard stared as the bunnies met the mound of muffins and began to consume it. It was simultaneously fascinating and disturbing.

    Nogard halted, shivering. The sheer muffinitude... Surely no one could have survived that.

    "Ah," said Nogard. "That's right. We were fleeing." He turned on his heel and resumed his hasty departure.

    Nogard let out a cheer."Way to go, Shoe!" He hopped down and started to jog over. "Can you tell what it does?" he asked.

    Nogard threw another rock, this time behind the goblin leader.

    Nogard gasped. "Go Shoe!"

    "Because we chose it! That's how it is with quests, right? You pick one and see it through to completion. Then you pick another one. And then you finish that one, and... well, you get the idea."
