Far overhead the camp, velvet wings beat silently betwixt heaven and earth as Niesa the Myrkaal drew near. None in the camp noticed; between her darkened apparel and supernatural ability to remain undetectable, she was practically invisible. She touched down in the center of camp. A few people were still out and about, but a quick lurk in the shadows was more than enough to keep them from noticing her. She peeked out from behind the tent, scanning the tents to try and identify which one belonged to her target. At least the coast seemed to be clear for now. "Third to the left," whispered a voice behind her. She whirled around, shifting into a fighting stance, then relaxed when she noticed the aura around him. An ally. "I suppose you're the spy, then?" she answered in a voice only barely loud enough to be heard. "You should be more careful. Keep talking that loud, and you'll draw guards faster than a snake's strike." The spy snorted. "I know very well you can deal with a few guards." He lowered his voice anyways. "You take after your mother's line, after all. Or so I've heard." Niesa sniffed, but not in a displeased way. "Well, you heard right," she said. "Still, no sense in prodding the bee's nest when you don't have to." Her glanced flicked back towards the tents near the center of camp. "Third to the left, you say?" she muttered. "All right." Stealthily, she moved across the ground to the indicated tent and slipped inside.

Imperial Nomic: The Shattered Plains
xinoehp512 replied to Experience's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Oh, wait, my proposal amendment still hasn't been approved. Rule of Affiliation: Players may affiliate themselves with one of the ten princedoms at a time: Aladar, Bethab, Hatham, Kholin, Roion, Ruthar, Sebarial, Thanadal, and Vamah. Affiliations must be posted in blue. If a player affiliates more than once, only the most recent affiliation will be counted- any positions or privileges tied to previous affiliations will be revoked. The first player to affiliate with a princedom will be the highprince, and each person affiliating afterwards must have their affiliations approved by the highprince in order to count. They will also be placed on the succession list. Should the highprince be removed for any reason, the person at the top of the seniority list will become highprince. Can we get this resolved? I have to be keeping track of titles, and I don't want a big argument over any censuses. -

Imperial Nomic: The Shattered Plains

Well, it's not January 28th at 5:00 PM yet, so... guess the game isn't over! You may have outsmarted us, but we outsmarted your outsmarting. See, first of all, the legality of Experience passing the law in the first place is in question, as he had (at the time) handed off power to the Regent. Secondly, the wording of the affiliation law let it be interpreted in such a way as to prohibit you re-affiliating. See, it's not that we're saying you can't do it because no law allows it. We're saying that the previous version of the affiliation law actively prohibited it. And thirdly, there is no law that says the game ends when somebody reaches 1000 spheres. Therefore, regardless of how the previous loopholes played out, the Anti-Secrecy Law would still retroactively nullify the law and any potential victory derived from it. Was it the Spanreed? I got the idea that it was inspired by the Spanreed, but didn't actually use it. That would have required him becoming Captain of the Radiants, setting the price of a Spanreed, and purchasing a spanreed all in secret. I guess it doesn't matter now, though. It was a clever idea, I'll give you that. I never even thought of using PM's to sneak laws in behind other player's backs! And the sly wording of the rule was also clever- I didn't even notice the loophole until you cited it. Nonetheless, it would seem that a majority of the other players think that the loopholes found to counter your strategy are sufficient enough to render it ineffective - including the Regent. Because of this, I would advise letting it go. I'm sure there will be other loopholes for you to find/create as the game progresses. Well, first of all, I'm not the one responsible for accepting proposals at the moment. @Aspiring Writer hasn't been made unavailable yet, as far as I know. Secondly, Chasm's right, you forgot your ninja. Thirdly, I think this rule could use some improving. For one, you don't need to list out all the roles of responsibility: the Regent rule already gives Regents of all types the powers of the King. Except... wait one sec, let me check... hmm, no, not the Voted Regent. We might want to fix that. I propose an amendment to The Regent: The King must select someone to become a Regent and must always have a Regent at all times. He may change who is Regent whenever he chooses to. If the King is aware he will be unavailable or absent for longer than three days, he must announce and appoint the Regent during his absence, stating "I appoint the current Regent to take over my position during my absence of (insert predicted number of days)." while tagging the Regent, who will take over the duties of the King until they return. Once the King returns, he must state "I have returned and will be taking back my power" while tagging the Regent in power. If the King is absent for more than five days, the chosen Regent will automatically take over until his return. The King can reject any rules that the Regent approves in his absence upon his return, and vice versa. He may also change either declaration to one of obsolescence. The Regent has no other powers other than taking over for the King. The Regent will have all of the privileges, responsibilities, and limitations of the King while serving as a replacement, as well as keeping track of all proposals and amendments and whether or not they approved or rejected them for the king upon their return. Failure to do so will culminate in a fine of five spheres per proposal and amendment not kept track of. The Regent must also announce a replacement in the case he also is made unavailable, where that person will become the Temporary Regent until either the Regent or King has returned. Temporary Regent has all the powers and responsibilities of the Regent upon the Regent's absence. If a Regent and a Temporary Regent are both not chosen or available, the players can vote a Voted-Regent into place. The Voted-Regent will carry all the powers and responsibilities of the Regent and can keep power even if the chosen Temporary Regent returns, though they must give back power once the Regent or King returns. The Regent cannot earn or lose spheres in their time in power but will be given ten spheres for each day of keeping track of proposals upon the King's return. Every proposal that Regent, Temporary Regent approves and the King rejects or vice versa will result in a fine of one sphere per proposal. The King can decide to offer more or fewer spheres to the Regents for their time in power and can mitigate the one sphere fine, but cannot increase the fine. -

First of all, you didn't win the game even if the law existed, due to you still being Highprince Aladar. (You can change that now if you want.) But even if you had, what says that rules can't continue to be made once somebody wins? Also, I will race for the gemheart and claim five spheres for doing so. -

The text of the law. All rule approvals. Experience's "approval" was in the PM, and therefore was not legally binding. And yes, it is "was". That's what "applies retroactively" means. We could argue this back and forth quite a bit. It doesn't really matter, though, thanks to the Anti-Secrecy rule. -

The Anti-secrecy law specifically applies retroactively now. (Even the original proposal could arguably be applied.) When something is "taken over," it is means that the original owner no longer has possession of that thing. -

The law is not legal. For one, it was never approved in thread, therefore the Anti-Secrecy Law renders it legally meaningless. For another, Experience "approved" the law after he left. The law says that the Regent takes over the powers of the King, so it can be easily reasoned that such an 'approval' was meaningless. When the rule was placed in the rulebook is irrelevant.
