    "The spirit merges with the soul," said Psyder. "Power is then drawn out... and used." In a flash, he disappeared and reappeared behind her. Rien sat down on a stump, head spinning. Losing half the army was bad enough; now they had to lose Daolan and Herate as well? It was like a nightmare, except horribly, undeniably real. He watched the new general - one of Herate's new friends, a man Rien didn't know - file into the command tent. Instinctively, he started to walk over before he remembered the facts of the situation. Daolan had only let him in the tent so he could learn how the army was run- he'd never actually provided anything. The newcomers wouldn't know anything about that, and he'd probably just get in their way. Sighing, he sat back down on his stump and waited for orders. Jeffery broke free of his embrace with his wife. "Ashley," he said solemnly, "there's something important I need to tell you." He exhaled. "It's about Vapor." Ashley's breath caught. "What?" she whispered. His eyes met hers. "She's alive," he said.
