  1. "I'm going to blow up a universe," the man replied.
  2. It was difficult to determine, although it seemed to exude an aura of danger.
  3. A man wearing a black-gemstone studded gauntlet walked into the room carrying a box covered in buttons.
  4. "The amulet..." choked out Cupra. "Shatter..." Ellis felt a surge of confidence. This child was no match for him. Why, he could beat her with his eyes closed and his hands tied behind his back. Shatter the amulet? A pulse of giddying amusement swept through him at the very thought. "I am but a humble captain to Her Majesty," Ronin's guide declared. Meanwhile, the cavern rumbled.
  5. Cupra struggled helplessly against the encroaching bonds. "Wait!" said Gerald. "Something is not right." "Do it!" screamed Cupra. "
  6. Wasn't the party to watch them fight the Witherlord?
  7. Oh dear. Well, it's been spelled the other way so many times at this point... "Waystone?" Professor Walker queried. "Does this translocator belong to you?" "What in the-" the Knight shook his head. "You've been practicing your abilities, I see."
  8. The Knight, coincidentally, was also looking for the Skeins. "Who is he?" Professor Jones asked. "No idea," replied Professor Walker. "Who are you?" he asked the Bob-like entity. "You're looking for admissions," the Wanderer replied. "Straight out the doors into the courtyard, then to the left. Or I suppose I could show you, if you'd rather have a guide."
  9. The Land of Dreams (also known as the Plane of Echoes) is a place where every lost thing is remembered. It can be visited, if you know where to look, but only in dreams. Nor can any thing be returned from it, unless one obtains the proper key (known as a soul crystal). There are depths to the Land of Dreams out of reach of the casual traveler, where the oldest echoes are. No one knows for sure what lies within them.
  10. Professor Jones glared at it. "Max!" she exclaimed. "Did you invert the sign again?" A disheveled blond head poked out of a hatch in the side. He blinked his eyes twice, taking his bearings, then slapped a hand to his forehead. "I'm an idiot," he said. "I'm sorry, Grace. You're absolutely right, I did invert the sign... although it was a different sign this time, I'll have you know." Professor Jones sighed and then let out a brief chuckle. "Well, at least it wasn't during class this time." Max suddenly noticed Alex. "Oh! Hello!" He extended a hand, realized it had a glove on it, removed the glove, and proffered his hand once more. "I'm Max Walker, professor of Iterology. I can't say I've seen you around here before. Are you a student of Professor Jones, or...?"
  11. A head peeked up from beneath. "Oops." It dropped back down again. "Escape tunnels," replied Professor Jones. "In case of apocalypse. But the students mostly use them for shortcuts." Fortunately, several stacks had been saved.
  12. Jared Ecnelis, born to Jacob and Abigail Ecnelis ~250 years ago. Oldest of four children. A fraternal twin. His twin sister bonded with an elemental spirit. She was abducted by Jared's uncle, a scientist of dubious morality, with the intention of pushing her powers to the limit. Unfortunately, when Jared attempted to rescue his sister, her powers were pushed beyond their limits, resulting in her own destruction (as well as the destruction of much of the universe they were situated in). All evidence pointed to her death, but Jared was not convinced. Instead, he resolved to search the universes until he could find her and bring her home. He was eventually able to achieve the former, but not the latter. Something new, of course. TLT is always something new. But something old at the same time, as well.
  13. Fortunately, it was simply their natural flammability.
  14. "Mostly what one would expect of a university." It was rising on the heat created by the invitations.
  15. Withergeists fear light, although only the weakest will be seriously endangered by it. (Luxite is the most potent example of this.)They can also be destroyed by their own essence in the form of mordite- mordite will kill anything.
  16. For the past several years, I have been developing a connected system of characters, stories, and magics here on the Shard. Many of you have likely encountered pieces of this web. It is quite possible that these encounters have left you with questions. If that is the case, I invite you to ask me anything.
  17. But that was solved quite simply by deleting the oxygen around them.
  18. The Darkbeast abandoned its pursuit of Nameless to finish consuming the space it was in.
  19. The reality containing his hand was swallowed by the Darkbeast.
  20. It starts with two axes: Order-Chaos and Light-Dark. Order is the concept of stability and structure. Chaos is the concept of change and renewal. Light is the concept of existence and life. Dark is the concept of non-existence and death. The two axes orthogonize to produce four fundamental classes of energy: order-light, order-dark, chaos-light, and chaos-dark. Ordered Light: Primary users: Luxsprites The myriad universes of the Vibrant Threads are built on a foundation of ordered light. This power is what holds back the weight of the Void and allows for existence to be. It also enables interaction between realities that would otherwise be incompatible. Junctions between universes are likewise defined by ordered light, allowing for travel in some cases and restricting it in others. The primary users and creators of ordered-light energy are- well, were - the luxsprites. They were the ones who built the foundation of the Vibrant Threads in the Time Before. All save one were killed in the Dies Luxfrang, so the magic system of ordered-light is no longer in use. The fundamental substance associated with order-light is luxite. Ordered Dark: Primary users: Ennullers (also known as mimes) The Ennulers manipulate the power of Silence. This power is what forms the Wall that keeps the wider universe safe from the dangerous excesses of the Narrators and the withergeists. It can subdue energy, erase memory, and delete existence. This order rose up in the aftermath of the Dies Luxfrang to prevent all of reality from coming to an end. The fundamental substance associated with order-dark is nullite. Chaotic Light: Primary users: Narrators (also known as dream artists) Much of what composes the actual substance of the universes is made from chaotic light. Narrators manipulate this energy to create characters, worlds, and tales as they so desire. It has by far the widest range of possible forms; in fact, it is nearly impossible for any two dream artists to share exactly the same abilities/specializations. Once an individual achieves enough power to rewrite reality in any way they please, they become a Narrator. It is at this point of transition that the defenses of the Wall activate and seal them away, before they can cause harm to the worlds outside the Wall. Chaotic light energy was rare prior to the Dies Luxfrang, but it is arguably the most common now. The fundamental substance associated with chaotic-light is prismite (also known as Narrativium). Chaotic Dark: Primary users: Withergeists The power of chaotic dark is that of destruction and decay. The withergeists are citizens of the Void. To them, reality is a constant blaring, irritating presence that they would love nothing more than to be rid of. However, the foundation of the universe is too well-put together for them to destroy directly. And so, they sneak through the cracks, finding beings who will open their souls to them in exchange for power. It was they who caused the Dies Luxfrang and ended the reign of the luxsprites. The fundamental substance associated with chaotic-dark is mordite.
  21. The Darkbeast was very offended at this accusation and started chewing towards Nameless.
  22. The Darkbeast stopped chewing and looked at Nameless.
