  1. "Its power would be at your disposal." It's not in the nature of chaotic darkness to precipitate naturally. "Ah, so you've heard of me!... or do I know you?" Bacon looked at Bat speculatively. "Hmm... I do know you, don't I? Oh dear." What? Is it of some sort of chaotic-dark essence?
  2. "Greetings!" said the person at the door. "I am Bacon the Bard, traveling minstrel and storyteller. Do you have a minute or two to spare?"
  3. "There is no current bearer. The mantle of the Witherlord has been banished." Most withergeists are non-corporeal, made entirely of chaotic-dark energy. Mordite in gaseous form, essentially. And you haven't been able to Ennul the poison? There was a knock at the door.
  4. Most technology does. No need to pretend, said Mark with a sigh. Mark frowned. Is something wrong? "The mantle of the Witherlord is mindless. Simply power. It is the bearer that determines its goals." Withergeists are made of chaotic darkness. Do you know how to multi quote? 656 gave Subversion a confused glance.
  5. Mark. "The goal of the Witherlord doesn't have to be the dissolution of the Thread." 656 gave Subversion a look. "It's... been five minutes." Mark Peters, in full. They were talking about what he was going to do about the stuff in his system, right?
  6. "It doesn't have to be." The ennuller shook his head. No. If you aren't going to return to the Silent Halls, then I'm coming with you.
  7. The ennuller sighed. Fine, if it's the only think that will convince you... but did you even consider asking for help?
  8. "Name them something else, then." An ennuller appeared, looking extraordinarily peeved. There you are.
  9. "Do they need a designation other than 'hero'?"
  10. 656 still looked unsure. "Well... They are the hero, are they not?" Nogard nodded. "After the trial, then?" "Find it," the wind insisted.
  11. Bacon sandwiches seem deep and well developed? "This is my deal. Obtain the lost page of the Book of Unwinding Thread. With it, you will gain access to the power you seek." Selppaenip looked at Platypus, who was looking at him. "Name? You mean, their identifier?" Nogard frowned. "What do you mean?"
  12. 656 stared at Subversion, confused. "I don't know- I've never been to a trial before. Is that sort of thing common?"
  13. The Ennuller grabbed Cricket by the wrist. "The cost depends on what you ask. Is it simply power you wish for? The ability to make a difference?" "Thank you," whispered 656, leaning back. "Thank you..." "It's just started. Someone's about to testify." Somewhere else... Bacon exploded onto the scene, dual-wielding bacon-sandwich guns. "Did somebody say SANDWICHES?"
  14. Well, I hope you don't imagine such a threat will go un-investigated. Plans are already being made to find and eliminate this mysterious entity of yours. "I don't know." Nogard seemed thoughtful. "I think anyone could be a villain to someone, if they weren't careful." "So you want authority?" whispered the wind. "A piece of each of us, to tie us into your plots?" "You have to tell them," said 656, clutching Subversion's wrist and staring intently at her. Her earlier reticence seemed to have vanished completely. "You have to tell them I'm not crazy. Something took my brother. Erased him." "As well as can be expected for someone who's been filling out paperwork for two hours." Nogard laughed ruefully. "You're lucky they didn't call you as a witness." The doctor sputtered furiously as Cricket vanished. An Ennuller appeared from the Void, staring down at Cricket with his arms folded.
  15. The wind chuckled. "I see. You already look with an Author's eyes." "Me neither, but... do you suppose any villains think they are villains?" The doctor sighed. Well, it's not my place to say whether you have a place on that mission, I suppose. She looked at Prisoner. And I don't suppose we'll be getting any more out of him, at least for now. "We plead not guilty!" exclaimed Selppaenip. "Er, to some of the things. And guilty to others. The less-bad ones." 656 gestured around vaguely. "They did. The... strange people. I heard they can solve problems like mine, but they don't believe me. They say he never existed, that I'm hallucinating. But you know! You know where he is!" "Subversion!" said Nogard, perking up. "You made it!"
  16. "What is we're the villains?" worried Nogard. "Of course. I can write a wonderful future for you, if you so desire."
  17. "Yeah," said Nogard. "Me neither. Unless..." "I can grant you many things, for the right price," whispered the wind. "Merely ask." If you try going after him alone, you might die.
  18. "Such a simple wish?" the wind whispered, laughing. "You hardly need me for that."
  19. Bacon inspected the scene. @NameIess Once again, said the doctor, might I suggest therapy? The wind swirled around Rebus. "What do you wish?" it asked. Nogard sighed. "Well, you aren't alone in that feeling, I suppose."
  20. The doctor frowned. You seem to be contradicting yourself. Is this about personal revenge, or about general good? It cannot be both. "Well, I suppose they think themselves the heroes, don't they?" Nogard smiled wanly. "Just like us." Bacon opened a portal to Tam's location. Uh... is Rebus trying to contact me, the Author?
  21. "Ah, good! Tam should prevent her from getting herself killed, at least. I hope. Shall we follow them?" "Because they could destroy the world. And I suppose they wish to claim them themselves, yes." Selppaenip glanced at ... The ennuller muttered something about reading the contract before you signed and filled out the proper form. "So he does exist," whispered 656. "I knew it. They all say I'm crazy, but they're wrong."
  22. "More concerned than sad! If anything happens to her... you didn't happen to see where she went, did you?"
  23. "Yes- traveler-Subversion. Oh dear- I suppose she found someone else to start asking questions to..." Well, perhaps you should file a report. If he is truly as dangerous as your 'Prisoner' seems to indicate, then more than your power alone will be required to defeat him. "So that people wouldn't claim them." Nogard paled. "Well, I guess the cat's out of the bag now." 656 started at the name, staring at Subversion in disbelief. The Ennuller frowned. I'm afraid you cannot leave. The contract you signed stipulated that you must remain here for the duration of at least one lesson. The next available session is- "Wait!" cried 656, scurrying into the room. "655. How do you know him?"
  24. The doctor frowned. You know of this man? "Conspired to hide their existence, I think," whispered Nogard. "I imagine the prosecution will give the exact charges." Bacon looked around, puzzled. "She was just here! Where did she go?"
