  1. 1. Possession. I can send out my "Spirit" as an incorporeal and indestructible wraith, that can enter, and take control of people. This "Wraith" can fly, phase through walls, see through walls, and is incorpreal. If a host dies, the wraith can flee the corpse to another host. Secondary Power: Agelessness. His human body is timelocked at a phase in its life, and does not age or sicken, but is not invulnerable, and requires sustenance. 2. Wraith is unable to physically interact with the rest of world, without possessing, or taking the body of another creature. Further more, if his original body is killed, then the wraith dies Instantly. 3. Hmm... Inspired by Sanderson, it would have to be "Lord Spirit." 4. He rules over his people, without them ever seeing his real form or likeness, only speaking through the voices of loved ones, friends and families.
  2. I have a theory that the entity possessing Nalizar/ is pretending to be Nalizar, the entity possessing harding, and the "Shadowblaze" (Assuming that is what was in the chamber, and what makes a Riftmatist) are all subspecies of the same species. Each one grants its "Host" power, but in a slightly different way. I get the impression that the Nalizar entity, and the Shadowblaze-es are opposite forces. One helping the Humans, and the other trying to destroy them. The Shadowblaze didn't bind with Joel, because for some reason, it would negatively effect "The bigger picture". At least, those are the thoughts I have.
  3. Not much to add. I only have a few minutes, so I have barley skimmed the wall of text, but it looks like a nice idea... Slightly confused by "Solid Water" being separate from Ice. But it looks interesting. Now, what are the limitations of the magic system? Is there a fuel that is used up to make this work? Does the system obey conventional laws of physics? If so, where does the energy go to / come from? To change the state of matter, energy must be applied which will accelerate the atoms. Also.. Is there a reason why the magic affects only water, and no other forms of matter?
  4. Eragon. I loved the premise. I loved the first book. Eldest was good too. Brisingr was slightly better... but Inheritance was awful. Huge let down. Of course, it was still better than the movie... I was disappointed Michael Scott's "Enchantress" as well. I feel like he didn't really know where he was going with the story, and by the time he did, he had too many loose ends to tie up in a way that was fully satisfying...
  5. I would just to add that this has been a pleasure to read. So often I have seen other sites decend into madness within two posts. I will admit that (living in Britain) I was rather unfamiliar with LDS before reading. Personally, I am a Catholic (With an Atheist Father), and I sympathised with Hathren and his grappling with the concept of Organised religion, and with On one hand - if you have the "Truth" you want to give it to people. You want them to understand and experience this wonderful thing you have. And it is your duty to do so - a parent wouldn't ignore their child saying "If It is right for them not to be Racist, it will come to them". People want to share their positive experience. But at the same time, I have never wanted to force my beliefs on anyone. Its a delicate balancing act, and something that resonates with Hathren. Anyway, that's just my perspective. That ^ Reminds me of another Christian Author, CS Lewis. In "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" Lucy uses a spell to make invisible things visible, and in doing so, reveals Aslan - who is a Christ-like figure. In fact, he is as Lewis put it " he is an invention giving an imaginary answer to the question, 'What might Christ become like if there really were a world like Narnia and He chose to be incarnate and die and rise again in that world as He actually has done in ours?'" When Lucy is surprised that her magic worked on Aslan, supposedly above her attempts, he responds: "Why would it not? Did you think I would not obey my own Rules?"
  6. What if Teod is situated roughly on the south Pole? And every country so far is on the southern hemisphere? From Teod's perspective, Jindo, Svorden etc is to the south. But if the Rose Empire was further "South" on the map, but North from an observer's perspective, then MaiPon could be located just below Jindo on the Map, and the Rose Empire significantly below that point?
  7. I have had some time to expand upon this system a little, so bear with me. However, I have modified the system slightly. Now, Only using a "Body" Essence produces a Homunculi. A "Spirit, or Mind" Essence will create a difference effect. I'll discuss these seperatley, as they are sort of a Diferent magic system, as for the most part, Thaumancers only control one of the Five Essences, and all of the "Colliding, or casting" isn't as simple as mixing together two pieces with a bowl and spoon. For it to occur naturally, they must be subjected to either intense Heat or Intense pressure/force. Or, under an intense magical focus. The Focus, is like creating a Magical Field - similar to a Magnetic/Electric field. All a field is, is an "Invisible force". Creating a magical field, pulls the surrounding naturally magical universe together, creating a more magically dense area, where these collisions occur, naturally melding the matter together. That is what happens when two of the elements collide. This alone does nothing, it is with the further application of an "Essence" that the effect is determined. Body, creates a Homunculi, as discussed. These are extremely suggestible, and can be ordered to complete tasks, attack enemies, gather items etc, with little thought, but are easily dispelled, as piercing a Homunculi, with something, an arrow, or dagger for instance, causing the "Life" Essence to leak out rather quickly. They are usually created with a specific order already in mind, then dispelled once that task is complete. An "Elemental" is a Homunculi, created by Colliding Two of the Same Element, with the "Body" Essence. These are more intelligent than simple Homunculi, capable of Independent thought, and rebellion against their creator (Though this is fairly rare) and they are composed of only their base material - where as all basic Homunculi, "Wood" construct or not, have organic matter. Further more, all Elements and Essences exist naturally around the universe, but if they are "Bound" together to currently living constructs - then the construct must be killed first. For example, a human will produce "Life" Essences" when murdered, depending on then number of days they would naturally have lived for. These Life Essences can be harvested, and spent on the creation of a Contruct, but can not be used to extend ones own life, because they are "Alien". Similar to a feruchemists metalminds? Because of this, children are a highly prized source of Life Essences - and there are therefore laws in place to protect them. It is possibly to only partially siphon of life essences out of a person, but these techniques never produce as much as out right killing a person. It is also worth noting that a Thaumancer is capable of using his own life naturally , but must spend parts of his own life on the creature. If the Homunculi is created for a few seconds then it rarely creates significant health difficulties, but a person permanently using up human life essences maintaining a creation from the day of his birth to the day he dies, will only live for approximately half the time of an average human, and age twice as fast. Because of this, using human life is discouraged, and it is possible to harvest life from other animals. However, the amount of life essences is intrinsically linked to the sentience of the creature killed. A dog for instance will not produce as much as a human, and a bug even less so. Although life clearly exists in wildlife, it has proven impossible to far to extract it from plant life. (The only time this happened in the history of this stories history, it devastated an entire continent, as the creation of the army destroyed the ecosystem, eventually killing of all life on that continent. This has not stopped people trying to discover the secret, but it has proven impossible thus far.) On a side note, I am finding it difficult to think of a creature that emulates both Fire and Water... Any ideas? Metal/Air = Djinn (Metal in this case is sand - sand and wind = Djinn) Fire/Air = Dragon Water/Wood = Hydra Wood/Air = Griffin Do you have any thoughts?
  8. Yeah - Bloody Tan was definitely doing something... Atium-sh - possibly electrum? But I associated his murders with Hemulurgy (SP?)...
  9. Now this seems so blatantly obvious, but I can't remember hearing it written anywhere on this forum. The Next Mistborn book is Called "Shadows of Self", however, when rereading HOA, I found this: In the UK Edition of HOA, Pg 660: Anyone have any thoughts? I imagine this has been brought up before somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere. Does "Shadows of Self" refer to a splinter of Harmony forming in the next Mistborn Adventures?
  10. This is an idea I liked for a Magic System. I would be very grateful for any thoughts anyone has on the system. I have an interest in Alchemy, and the Philosophical beliefs that accompanied it. My System uses Elements and Essences The System works upon the basic of Alchemy, merging the Five Eastern Elements, with the Four Western Elements. Western: Fire, Water, Earth and Air. Eastern: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood In this unnamed Magical system, there are: Fire, Water, Air, Metal (Mineral Aspects of Earth), and Wood (Organic Aspects of Earth). These Five Elements can be combined in a pair along with one the the Five Essences: Mind, Body, Spirit, Life and Death(Or other 5th Essence). These essences can be manipulated from their original form to form a new Matrix(Or other Suitable word) to create a new construct. A Homunculi. A Homunculi is an Artificial creation - a living being held together by colliding the three essences/elements together, and constantly maintaining the creation with "Life" Essences. A normal living being has an innate amount of life essences which are used up through the course of their lives. They are spiritually tied to a person - essentially a lifetimer. A person is unaware of their own essences as they are already created - not in the process of creation. That is the fundamental weakness - the need to feed them with Life, which is difficult to attain legally, but can of course be sold, shortening a persons life span, in exchange for material wealth. A Construct is creation of a Homunculi, by using Two Elements, and One Essence. For example, colliding the elements of Air and Water along with the a "Mind" Essence, will create a Homunculi of a Human being. An immitation human being - but dependent on its creator for life essences - otherwise it dissipates. The Combination of a Air and Fire Elements along with a "Spirt" Essence will form a Dragon Homunculi. Combination of Fire/Fire/Spirit will create an "Elemental" as will any Duel-Element construct. These are invariably more powerful. Even though I kind of like my idea - modeled on the standard model of an atom. A being proton, composed of two up quarks and one down quark. In this case - the quarks are replaced by Essences and Elements. I have sort of named them Thaumons - but of course all that is in flux. The Elements providing the material orientation, and the essences the magical qualities. One final note - Life Essences are not know to form any matrices. They do not Collide, but exist as independent Thaumons. Thaumancers practice the craft of Thaumancy - alternatively called Thaumology by Thaumigists. Does anyone have any thoughts about the system? I still only have a cool system - no story or characters yet - I just sat down and said: "Right. Lets build a Magic System."
  11. Sounds cool. Currently building my first non-Pre-constructed deck. Looking like a Simic-Infect Deck. Simple, effective, and brutal. Kinda like how I play video games. I can't be bothered with swordplay, archery, martial arts etc. I just stroll up to the, and set their faces on fire.... Its here by the way, if you are interested. I feel like there should be more Control to it... Any suggestions? Lands 10 Forest 2 Simic Guildgate 8 Island Creatures 4 Glistener Elf 4 Ichorclaw Myr 2 Rot Wolf 4 Blighted Agent 2 Viridian Corrupter Buffs 2 Titanic Growth 4 Groundswell 4 Mutagenic Growth 4 Vines of Vastwood 2 Simic Charm Control 2 Cancel 2 Unsummon 2 Negate 2 Apostle's Blessing Any more experience players have any tips? I have little budget left to rotate out some of the weaker cards for more powerful ones...
  12. I have Kinda started playing Casually, with a few friends who are far more into it than I am. have no intention of starting to play Standard... Don't have the cash. I literally only have the first deck I bought - Tibalt Vs Sorin, And of that - I split with brother, so I have Tibalt Cards Only. I am constantly being told they are terrible cards HOWEVER Today, I had my revenge. Firstly, I beat my mate Twice in a row when he was playing with Avacyn Restored, White/Blue Event deck. [Humanity's Vengeance] (Don't know how good it was - still too newbie to tell) with my Tibalt the Fiend-Blooded deck (Stock Tibalt deck from the Duel Deck - Sorin Vs Tibalt). http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/237b Then, four of us played Plane-Chase, with My Brother using Sorin, and my to other friends playing Avacyn Restored White/Blue and Avacyn Restored Black [Death's Encroach] Event Decks. I eventually won using Tibalt's Ultimate ability. Gathering all creatures to my side - and blasting each of them in one turn. I had an 8/8 Scourge Devil from The Plane - Jund - with a load of theirs they were history. Of course, it is probably the single best turn I have ever had with a poor deck. So I like to savor it. That was Victory 1 and 2. Victory 3, was convincing said friend to get one of the 2013 Commander decks when they are released, which I am very excited for. There.
  13. Wait! I know this has been a while, but I have found some new evidence. I am now firmly convinced that All mistings can burn their God Metal Alloys. When explicitly asked here: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/2383-qa-with-brandon-sanderson/page-4#entry42124 Post #78 He Replied: Now this is interesting. We know he could be referring to Lerasium, which we know anyone, even Non-Allomancers, can burn. But he said Metals. Plural. Now we know it isn't Atium - we know full well that mistings can't burn it, besides Atium Mistings. So. What does that leave? The God Metal Alloys? Since Lerasium can be burnt by anyone, we can assume that their Alloys can to. (In fact, it is common knowledge here that a Lerasium Alloy will produce a Misting, so non-Allomancers, can burn that to. I suggest, therefore, that The Atium-Alloys that exist, Atium-Steel, Atium-Copper, etc, can be burned - possibly by the whole population, but I think, more likely, by Mistborn, and any Mistings that can burn their Alloyed metal. It hasn't really changed my Theory much, but there you go. More to talk about.
  14. Chemical formula: 1,1,Dimethyl-3-occultzene-4-ol. Occulzene for short. Fusion of "Occult" and homologous "-zene", with a bit of organic chemistry chucked in for good measure Garunteed to irritate any chemist, but it might do for a novel?
  15. I see a lot of potential here, with multiple personalities emerging... It would make for interesting characters. I a person could create a kind of "Pseudo-immortality", preserving their memories, for them to reemerge on some unsuspecting Archaeologist. Speaking of which, Archaeology would become a very dangerous profession, some battle sites would become very dangerous...
  16. Hmm... It sounds interesting - but if you wouldn't mind me saying, a little overpowered? I mean, it would accelerate. ... That makes no sense. ... Let me explain. If I have a sword, then I use it to win a battle, and I am a great duelist/fighter etc, then I do great things with this swords. Then, my son takes my sword - uses the power to access my skills and powers, and uses it to do more great - in addition to his own skills - resulting in even greater things being done. Then his son takes the sword etc etc etc. By the Time my great great great great great great grandson has the blade, he will have enough skills and memories to be almost unstoppable. See what I mean? I suppose these warriors would be insane - and I imagine would be beserkers, due to this - but they would still be impossibly hard to kill. If you had such a sword, it would be "cursed" so to speak, as the shear volume of the memories would drive you insane. Now if that it was you are going for - then it sounds good, but you might want to rethink the ramifications of the magic if you wanted it to be used a lot. Still, the idea is intriguing, please don't think I am criticizing the idea - it sounds original and pretty awesome - I just struggle to see how you could weave it into a story without it completely over taking the plot. However, it does present interesting plot threads. Have you considered putting in a "Murder Mystery" subplot that could be solved by using his possessions?
  17. This sounds good - I would definatley read this if it was published. It has caught my imagination.
  18. Sounds awesome. I can't offer much advice, but here a few questions that might help you refine the world in which the magic takes place. I love the system by the way. Does the government know about this? Is there a way to see the magic, without developing powers? Eyedrops of a diluted chemical? What would happen if there was a massive leak of this chemical in a populated area? Would a person with X-ray vision, only be able to through magical objects, and magically reinforced walls? Would they see through magic users, and not non-magic users? How do enchanted objects get "Enchanted" in the first place? Why does the magic not occur naturally? Are there animals that eat the plant that also display magical powers? How is development of this chemical take place? I presume it is a secret, but someone must have developed the chemical. A magically born child seems as though he is overpowered compared to the others. Unless this is a plot point - ie the villain is a superpowerful version - there needs to a be a reason limiting it. Perhapes the drug also causes deformities or genetic diseases in offspring? Or perhapes they are addicted to the serum, and require regular does of it - forcing them to regulally use their powers... Just some thoughts! I love the concept and you should write it! Suggested Title: "Visions"
  19. Well the Emotion Spectrum also sounds good. Its easy to see how greed and envy can slide into anger... In this world, does all emotion produce effects without being called upon so to speak? Does feeling happy always produce a certain effect? Do all of the people in the world have this, or only a select group? Is it a born thing or a learned process? These are important to consider when designing the system.
  20. Emotion based Magic sounds awesome! Anger, Wrath and Hatred would produce awesome affects... I would pick a group of Primary Emotions which produce distinctive effects, Anger Fear Sadness Neutrality (Random idea: The Power attained from complete calmness. Powerful, but almost impossible to maintain except by a secluded order of monks. An idea?) Compassion Happiness Excitement Hows that?
  21. Finished it after four days of reading. What a triumphant conclusion. Androl was my favourite character - along with Logain. Of course I loved all of the main characters, they tell the story, but it is the minor characters, the details, the embelishments that really make a masterpiece. Only last year, I purchased the (at the time) complete set of the Wheel of Time on amazon. For £85. Eleven books. I burned through them in a couple of months. It has been a wonderful experience, and I shall oneday reread the entire series from start to finish.... But I can't face such a daunting task now. I loved it. After Gawyn, I was convinced Galad would kill Damodred. Then Logain. Then Egwane, then Lan. And even then I thought Lan had perished in the attempt. I mean - wow. Compared to Be'lal who barley gets a look in. When he appeared with the Sharans, my first thought was: Oh. Damodred. You little ****. And was hitting my head on the table for not seeing it coming. Perhapes my own regret was that Rand never knew Graendal murdered Asmodean - or that Asmodean Genuinly defected to Rand's cause after being freed from the Dark One. I seem to rememebr Rand spent much of the next book, doubting his jugement, thinking Asmodean had betrayed him. I had also been looking forward to seeing the fight between Shaidar Haran and Moridin - which I believe happened off-screen. Still it was an amazing book, which I enjoyed, dispite being an absolute wreck the next day. Ah the price one must pay.
  22. If you were to Awaken a Metalmind, would that affect the amount you could store/tap in it? If you were to Burn an awakened piece of metal, would that affect the power attained from it? If you were to Awaken a Hemalurgic Spike, would that affect the amount you could drain/steal from a person? Is the danger of using Shadesmere on Sel, related to the fact that Aons draw their power from the geography of Sel, and the geography in Shadesmere appears to be inverted-geography of origin, thus inverting the Aons? (Not sure on spelling there, feel free to correct it). And congrats at being selected as a "Memory Keeper"!
  23. Thanks for the critique. You have helped show a number of errors in this, Which I will fix ASAP. I may well do this. In my head, the cycling through pools was instinctive and takes almost no time, but this could work too. I will see which works best. Thanks. I will fix this. Maybe I wasn't clear. Bloodbolts drain from all pools at the same time, and all are needed, so you only have as much bloodbolts as in your lowest pool. It does drain alot of energy, but not in a single go. Wounds inflicted by bloodmagic just take more energy to heal then coventional wounds. And no, they don't do it often, is it really only used against other bloodmagicians. Valaessa was very angry, and it was the first weapon to hand.
  24. Some of these are Idea I have, but have nothing more than the title done: The Bloodlands The King's Necromancer Last of the Dragonlords Hellfire Demonkin I never written any Steampunk... What about: The Steam Heart Clockwork Mind
  25. Pahapes create a "bubble" that slowly drains all reserves within it? Or reduces the seed of the burn?
