  1. I wasn't a huge fan of the Reckoner series or of the Rithmatist, so I was wary of Brandon's YA work, but Skyward is flat out amazing. You should totally check it out. Also, there's a short science fiction story that takes place in the same universe as Skyward. The details about this are in the spoiler tag below (because this isn't on the Skyward spoiler board).
  2. @Kahlani, that is so amazing! I'm not sure if you jog or run, but you could set up a pretty simple apparatus so that you could look like you have syl zipping around with you while you jog, using a dowel, some fishing line and your amazing needle felt Sylpherena. You could look like a real Windrunner. Here's some drawings of how you could set it up: Awesome work!
  3. Those are really nice @Ookla the Scrawny! They all have nice, clean forms, are well rendered and have very interesting use of negative space. My favorite is the Parshmen inspired form on the right, I really like how the brow ridge line swirls into the orbital of the eye. If you are looking for things to doodle in a similar style, maybe try some forms based on starfighter shapes from Skyward.
  4. Hey @HSuperLee, I created a couple different variants of this for you, let me know what you think. They're spoilered below. BLACK BG: BLUE BG: and WHITE BG: I think the black and white BG's look the best. I also have the AI native file if you want it just let me know.
  5. Here are the questions I asked (the Dysian Aimian one was suprising): Personalized book questions: Q:Were the Dysian Aimians created by Adonalsium? If not were they created by a different Shard? A: RAFO Q: Is felt an agent of Harmony? If not, is he working for a secret society that we have seen? A: Felt is different in his allegiance depending on the part of his life I got to ask a follow up if modern day Rosharan Felt knew how to get some atium. Brandon said that he would know how to go about trying to aquire some but that it would be very difficult for him to do so, and he probably wouldn't be able to get any. I also asked if Dysian Aimians were called Dysian as a nod to Martin Heidegger's formulation of Deisan being in Being and Time. He said that he read that, so it might have been a subconscious reason, but it was not intentional. I also asked if a Dysian Aimian had the Elsecaller Honor blade could just a single cremling transition to the cognitive Realm. Brandon said that as it works now, they could do that, but that single cremling would probably lose contact with the host and would become broken off and no longer part of the hive. It would be like if your finger was cut off and sent to the CR. He also said that Dysian's wished that they were more versatile in some respects. These were end of the event questions and Brandon was wanting to head out, so I only got a couple in. Man's not truly a machine, he needs his dinner so I kept these short. Q: Were the Dawn cities, the ones based on cymatic patterns created using a supercharged combination of the surges of cohesion and illumination, using cohesion to make the ground liquid and illumination to send a frequency— A: You are theorizing in the right direction. Q: Is Cultivation's investiture distributed by the crem cycle? A: Uh, RAFO, sorry Q: The magical fish in the Purelake, is their magic part of the Old Magic paradigm? A: The magical fish are, uh, not of Honor. Not of honor in a bad way, but there is something else going on there. Q: Can a shard have more than one shardpool? A: Yes Q: Does Cultivation have another shardpool in the Purelakes? A: RAFO
  6. Hey @RShara I wore the T is a plant shirt, check it out! (spoilered below) It was great talking with you @Khyrindor and your lurker friends. You guys got some awesome WOBs! I recorded this too, so you arcanists will have two source files to use to disambiguate mumbles and such. My phone was right underneath @coltonx9's, so there might not be much variance in the sound, but then again, there might be just enough.
  7. Those were all great, but I feel like I'm being compelled by a series of events beyond my control to vote for @ILuvHats Taravangian roast. All around great stuff
  8. I'm pretty busy right now, but if I have time, I am going to make a kind of ghetto spray paint stenciled version of this shirt. The tagline was inspired by an incredibly funny comment by @RShara that Mr. T is a plant by Cultivation: The back of the shirt will have to wait until I have more time to get my silk screen up and running (spoilered below): So if you see someone with a giant spray painted T on their shirt at the signing, it'lll most likely be me.
  9. I'm picking up my brother in Portland, and after the signing we're going to be eating at the most amazing Ethiopian restaurant this side of Addis Ababa (Saba). It is the food equivalent of Brandon Sanderson, beyond superlative. I have some questions about the Cognitive Realm, Dysian Aimians, and reversing pairer fabrials that I want to ask Brandon. My plan is to go through the signing line two times, it will be 2x awesome.
  10. Nice roasts @Paranoid King, @Ark1002 and @Sorana! Really nice extended metaphors in your roast Paranoid, also I really liked the feigned reluctance to be dragged into the competition. Good stuff! This was a great line Ark for roasting Breeze: The repeated refrain at the start and the end of your roast Sorana was great. Really good stuff, still the best thing going on the shard.
  11. The Portland Oathbringer release signing was the first Brandon book signing I went to. It wasn't ticketed admission and there were Sanderfans pouring out into the mall adjoining Powells, so the Skyward event will probably be less insane. The reading started at 5:00 pm, Brandon answered some general questions from the audience, then gave a 20 minute-ish talk about Heraclitus, kids and Chinese spaghetti, and then the book signing started at about 6:00. At the start of the event you decided if you wanted one of two different tickets, one to just get a signature, the other to get personalizations. Sharders and people with questions picked the personalization tickets, and went after the signature only folks. I had one of the last personalization tickets, so I didn't get my questions asked and my books signed until about 12:30 am. I was one of the last ones out, but the signing probably lasted another 15 to 20 minutes after I left. With the skyward tour being a ticketed event, the timeline will probably be significantly contracted, but it's probably reasonable to assume that it will last about 3 to 4 hrs (probably 1 hr-ish for the reading, brandon talk and general Q & A, then about 2 to 3 hrs for the signing and personlizations). These are totally just estimates, if I was you, I would try and get there as early as you possibly can. I'm coming up from Eugene Oregon and I plan on leaving at 5:00 am so that I can get there (hopefully) close to about 12:30.
  12. Yours was amazing!!! I really love the direction you took your rap this round, it was a really sweet and touching story, and you never broke meter. I think your rap was better and that love struck Human emoji is ADORABLE!! I would have voted for yours this time becaus it was so good, but I can see how writing for Human is a bit of one note symphony, but given the constraint you took it to a whole new level. Really good stuff hero! Thanks Sorana! I think hero's was better, but nice to hear anyways. Thanks again for setting this up @Ashspren, I still think this is the funnest thing going on the shard.
  13. Ahhhh yeah, Roastin' time. Sorry Human, but Steris has the broiler on high, looks like Roasted Koloss is coming up:
  14. Thanks for doing that in the mud room, it's ever so much easier to clean that way...
  15. Thanks Firerust, I thought it was way too close to call, your Lopen roast was awesome!
  16. I, on other hand shall float like an allomancer (thank you Wax), and sting like brass. Face it Human, you're a has been wanna-be human that's getting too big for his britches, you're gonna need stiches. You're a combination of 4 losers, and it seems like you got the boorish parts of all of their spirit webs. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
  17. Rad. Voted for Steris, but that was close, the Lopen almost convinced me...
  18. Hey Steel Inquisitive, I bolded the part that i think is most important from the quote you pulled. Humans are an all you can eat buffet of experience/emotion, listeners are a small plate fancy restaraunt. They ditched the listeners for humans because the experience/emotions they got from humans accelerated their development. Look at the progression of pattern, same time, if he was bonded to a listener, he wouldn't be nearly so cognitively advanced. That's why I think they started bonding humans (this quote specifically). @Yata makes a really good point, Venli has her form of power precisely because she is bonded to a voidspren (which currently resides in her gemheart). If she doesn't divest herself of the voidspren, then Timbre seems relegated to dampening the effect of the voidspren duty, which would seem to preclude the summoning of a sprenblade. But the question then becomes, how does Radiant Venli progress? How does she go forward? Can she be a Scholar form Radiant? Worst case is that she is a dull form Radiant. This is interesting to speculate about, I'm sure Brandon has a plan (he is an outliner after all), but this is totally uncharted territory. Fun stuff.
  19. Steris was buried under a pile of paperwork, but she's finally emerged to bring "The Lopen" "The Roast":
  20. Hahahah,so funny. I've a got a song for you attuned to the Rhythm of feeling really sorry for yourself, here's the link and you can all be Listeners: Thanks for the info Toaster, if it's about Elantris I don't even bother looking it up in the coppermind, I really didn't care for that book.
  21. Undwear yes, Manties no. Just kidding, you seriously can do what ever you want with the art, but if you do turn it into underwear don't say who did the design, capiche?
  22. I just went through a bad movie from the 2000's, I went from Enefel (which I think is just a poor spelling of NFL) to a listener. I guess I'm more sensitive now??
  23. Thanks brother. I'll take your honorary title if you listen to one of the best songs ever made, 9th and Hennepin by Tom Waits which has the lyric that inspired this bit o art.
  24. That is so good! The color is absolutely amazing! You've got so many of those amazing colors that only show up at sunset, and they all work to set off the luminescent Syl trail, so good!
  25. Rad, that's a great song! I was listening to some more songs by The Score, their song Unstoppable sounds a lot like an amazing remix of the song American Woman by David Lynch for Twin Peaks the Return, (originally by the Muddy Magnolias): *EDIT* I got my daughter to listen to The Score's Revolution by telling her there was a Night Corp version of it (which is actually really good, slightly sped up with an anime video bg). Ok, I am actually listening mostly to one of my favorite bands of ALL TIMES, the CAPS LOCKS, just kidding, but they are SO GOOD, for real (they actually even have an amazing song called For Real). Okkervil River, oh they are so good. Here are some links to some of my favorite of their songs: 1) Lost Coastlines (this song is so freaking amazing) 2) Okkervil River Song (so good, so good. If I had to listen to a single song on infinite repeat, it would be this song) 3) It Ends With a Fall (if I could have a second song on infinite the repeat playlist, it would be this one) 4) The Velocity of Saul at the Time of his Conversion (Live version, featuring a fully clothed stand up bass, SO GOOD). 5). Kansas City (the first song I heard from Okkervil River, they were opening for the Decembrists at the Crystal Ballroom, and you know what, they were WAY BETTER than the Decemberists).
