So, in response to the thing about the Rhythm of Destruction, I feel like it says somewhere that that is the Odious version of the Rhythm of the Lost, so in the scene Leshwi is trying to hum to Lost. Also, in addition to the fact that there is a dragon on Roshar, some offhand things you may not have noticed (or at least didn't seem to point out): Veil remembered holding a Seon cube as baby Shallan. Lift has an Aviar now. Mraize totally murdered a Terris worldhopper (who used to have an aviar, apparently) Hindsight mode: After Operation: Red Carpet, Shallan spent about five months as Veil (based on how I read their relationship), which ended when Helaran forced her to try to draw, at which point Shallan reappeared and talked for the first time since the incident (which is adorable). Gift (son of Lunamor) is flirting with Lift, and she isn't particularly upset about it. (So, is their ship name Gift, or Lift? You decide) The Sibling just chose to unbond Melishi after he captured BAM The mysterious shop owner who somehow has all of the things that characters have lost. We finally have a good idea of how Vasher prevented the little girl in Warbreaker from remembering her kidnapping. Ishar killed Neturo-son-Valano, There is no tenth pancake.

You and I have a very different definition of 500.

Rhythm of War Online Release Party 11/17/20

The "Shard" in Shardbow is a bit of a misnomer. They are similar to Shardhammers: oversized weapons that can only be effectively wielded by someone in Plate. They are entirely comprised of mundane materials or enhancement fabrials and do not originate with the old Radiants. The Shardbow launches oversized arrows specially made to fit it, but again, these are not actually Shard-related. I believe the indication in the 6otD II scene was that the Shardgun was an energy weapon, and the thing being added was some sort of power pack or something. -
I posted this in the RoW spoiler area: It only has spoilers for the Prologue, so if you have read that you are clear (though I can't vouch for anything else that might end up in that thread).
-
Normally I would put this in Cosmere! The Musical, but the spoiler gate is still up, so I have made a space for myself (and others who are inclined to join in) to put Song Parodies containing Rhythm of War spoilers. This is "Burn" to the tune of the song with the same name from Hamilton, as sung by Navani, and contains spoilers for only the Prologue. (Also, at the end, separated by three dashes, are lines taken from the final lyrics of "First Burn", which is an alternate version of "Burn". I ended up choosing "Burn" for the full parody, but I felt that those lines worked so well I wanted to add them.):

Oh, it's fine. The point of this thread is speculation, we don't have solid data. -

Right, but where on Roshar do you think the artists are from? -

Well... That was... ... a thing. I guess. -
So, I have been thinking about the endpapers of Rhythm of War and I think that the Kalak and Pailiah ones are Alethi (or otherwise Vorin), the Chanarach one is Shin, and the Nale one is either Azish or Shin. My reasoning is that Kalak and Pailiah both fit into what I imagine the Vorin range of appearances to be, Pailiah has a covered safehand but an uncovered freehand, and they have the same artist. My reasoning on Chanarach is that she is very pale for a Rosharan, has round eyes, and has an uncovered safehand, plus, there are fairly Earthlike trees behind her. Nale has the same artist as Chanarach, has birds in the background, and while his eyes are closed they appear fairly round, which support shin, but his uniform also seems to fit what has been described as an azish uniform, and his background prominently features metallic spheres and domes, which we know are a major part of the architecture in Azimir, and presumably other Makabaki cities. So, does anyone else have any thoughts? Theories about the OB papers are welcome, too. Also, while this is in the RoW spoiler section, please avoid RoW spoilers, at least for now.

Storms, yes. I've been going around warning everyone I know that where t=time until the release party, as t approaches 0 my insufferable fanboyishness will approach infinity. Also, THE ENDPAPERS ARE SO PRETTY!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

The Overlady Reads Rhythm of War, Part One!

YAY!!!! RoW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved Lucy's reaction to remembering the Kal-Syl-Hesina dynamic. Also, I was surprised that you didn't discuss ansy of Shallan's dealings with the Ghostbloods or Sja-Anat. By the way, is Lucy on the Shard yet? EDIT: Oh, and will you be doing Dawnshard?- 5 comments

I don't think either are holding them, I think both were experiencing the influence of Dawnshards in a minor way due to a combination of Connection to related Shards and agreement with the Commands.

True, but in modern Israeli Hebrew there is no distinct Saph. I totally understand that you were pronouncing/spelling it correctly by a different dialect than the one I use, I was mostly being hyperbolic about my annoyance. Honestly, the Ramban joke comes from a sketch by an Israeli comedy group where the Ramban goes into a restaurant to get some food, and everyone gets super excited when they hear his name because they think it's the Rambam, but then they all get mad and feel betrayed when he explains that he is a different person, even though he keeps trying to tell them that he is a famous rabbi and philosopher, too.

Sort of (by my understanding. Religion is obviously quite personal). I actually have always read it as some of the stuff (like the water and the void) always having been there, and the first line being more of a thesis or abstract, like "God created the universe, here's how." A Ramban callout is always nice, though, but mostly for reasons relating to a semi-inside joke for me. I also don't think that the "First day" thing is that big of a stretch. It is a pretty common interpretation, and all of the other "xth day" things are actually ordinals in the original Hebrew. Still, it is true that many English Bibles are translated from Latin which was translated from Greek which was translated from a version of Hebrew that has been dead for millennia and is very different from modern Hebrew (which is technically a conlang). Plus, while I don't know if there are glaring issues with the translation in the post you quoted, I do disagree with the interpretation of the text (both that of the Torah and the Cosmere) presented in it. On the other hand, your transliteration of Bereshit pains me (yes, I understand that it is the accepted Ashkenazi spelling and pronunciation). The word ends in ת, not ס or ש. And yes I am that pedantic about transliteration. When I found out how my middle name (a transliterated Hebrew word) was spelled, I actually got mad at my parents for their choice. (I got over it). (welcome to pedantic-cast davar edition (no, not that one))

So, something felt off to me about Experience, and I was trying to figure out what it was, but as I tried to build up the argument against it I started to accidentally put together evidence for it in my head, and over the course of like a minute I went from skeptical to fully on board. Experience fits really well with the Iriali Long Trail and the belief that the One needs to experience things. If it is Experience, then I would say the fourth member would be something like Curiosity, which also fits really well as the External Pulling Shard for my version of the theory.

I did a similar bit when the countdown hit 62 (which was the time Renarin first started writing warnings).

I was going to ask @Ashbringer "What did it cost?"

I have updated my signature. This week's(??? month's??? Year's???? I don't know, I always forget to update it) parodies are my top-ish 3 Stormlight parodies. Top-ish 3 because I am conflicted about the ranking.

I can't help but read this in the voice of Dave's Spokesman.

The difference is that Cultivation and Dominion had other things going on. The only thing we know about the "survival Shard" is that its primary agenda is survival. Devotion and Dominion both created religions, Cultivation still cultivates people. They can't avoid their Intent completely. On the other hand, I could be wrong. I have no illusions that this isn't an early theory based on minimal data.
-
Yes, but Growth and Decay are not Shards, Ruin and Cultivation are. That is my point. If the "survival Shard" is, Wisdom (a plausible theory), and we learn that that means the Wisdom to avoid danger, that would clearly fit, but Wisdom is tangential to Survival and Survive. Even if the Intent is only tangential to survival, if you are a Shard, it has to be close enough if that is all you are trying to do.
