I love seafood, and apparently T'Telir has some of the best seafood restaurants in the Cosmere. Consider my vacation booked.

So how is the potential for Sand Mastery gained? Is it genetic? Triggered by something in the environment? Does everyone on the Dayside have Sand Mastery potential, and it's just a matter of training?

Figuring out the Hemalurgy Chart
Unlicensed Hemalurgist replied to Unlicensed Hemalurgist's topic in Mistborn
"Delayed" as in "I searched the WoB archive for hemalurgy table and found three posts, each one saying it would be out 'next year,' with the last one dated almost a year ago." I didn't go through every WoB with the hemalurgy tag because I didn't feel like spending hours scrolling through all the Hero of Ages annotations just to find what I was looking for. If you have new information that I've missed, then fair enough.- 2 replies

So with the news that a full hemalurgy chart is delayed until who knows when, I decided to try my hand at figuring it out for myself. I'm stumped. At first it looked pretty easy: the pure elements steal innate traits, the alloys steal Metallic Arts powers. But then why would Aluminum steal Enhancement Allomancy? I can only come up with three possibilities: It's an in-universe mistake. Khriss is simply wrong about what Aluminum does, which is totally possible, since Brandon has said that the little Ars Arcana are in-universe reference documents that can be wrong. It's an out-of-universe mistake. Brandon just hasn't gotten around to correcting it, and is going to play it off like he did with brass and electrum being reversed. The final two quadrants are genuinely "backwards" in Hemalurgy, and the table is a different shape than we think. Or at least the groups are arranged differently than we think they are, like how the periodic table has a zig-zaggy section for the "metalloid" elements. So with all that in mind, this is my best guess so far: Even aside from leaving Nicrosil, Bendalloy, and Electrum blank, I'm really not happy with how the green and purple sections seemingly reverse the pattern. The only thing I can think of is maybe the shape is wrong. Maybe the Metallic Arts stealing metals should be up against each other, forming a "stripe" (or a "spike?") shape section through the middle of the chart? That sounds weird and contrived, though. Does anyone else have any ideas? Am I missing something here?

Given the Dickensian nature of the Final Empire setting, you probably can't go wrong with cold gruel.

Sand Mastery and Bendalloy
Unlicensed Hemalurgist replied to Unlicensed Hemalurgist's question in Cosmere Q&A
Cool. Having a bendalloymind would probably be a lot more compact and convenient for Sand Masters than lugging a lot of water around everywhere. -
Obscure Magic Hack Question: Would a hypothetical Sand Master able to use F-Bendalloy be able to fuel Sand Mastery with the hydration stored in a bendalloymind? Or does the Magical Sand Lichen (TM) only react to actual water? I figure they'd be able to re-fuel their body's water reserves as normal by tapping the bendalloymind, but I'm not sure about the actual activation of the sand.

I kind of like this idea. Riffing off it, what if F-Bavadinium stored the Ferring's entire presence in the Cognitive Ream? Storing shifts one closer to the Physical Realm, while tapping the bavadiniummind shifts the Ferring's physical body closer to the Cognitive (like Lift being able to touch spren). Maybe a bavadinium Twinborn could use Compounding to shift over to the Cognitive Realm completely, like the Surge of Transportation?

Perhaps "aluminum bullets" are just ordinary lead bullets plated in a thin layer of aluminum to block A-Steel and A-Iron from affecting the lead cores that do the real damage?

Because what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own secret Hemalurgic laboratories is none of the government's business, dadgummit! *shakes fist* Because I'm just so full of sweetness and light. (And metal spikes, to be fair, but there's sweetness and light in there too. In high school I was also voted "most likely to interpret the Intent of Odium non-misanthropically if he became its Vessel," so I've got that going for me too. It really is what it is. People don't think be like it is, but it do. Pale Vermillion. Either that or Midnight Blue. I like chairs without wheels, that way I don't get distracted by all the rolling around when I'm trying to work. I actually have a conlang that's something like this. It's a language of an underwater human civilization like in Hal Clement's Ocean on Top, although unlike Clement's oceanic civilization this one isn't mute. Their spoken language only contains the five vowels-- A ("ah"), E ("eh"), I ("ee"), O ("oh"), and U ("oo"), with M, R, and the Hebrew het ("ח," sort of a phlegmy "ch") as their only sounds. Lots of glottal stops. I imagine it sounding like a combination of Hawaiian and whalesong. Very dark brown, though I started getting a few silvery hairs in college. I like them, it makes me look mature and distinguished. Aging like a fine wine!

I think the issue is that "Apathy" doesn't sound very divine. It would probably be called something like "Serenity" or "Detachment" instead, the portion of God/Adonalsium that is His/Its utter uniqueness and fundamental qualitative separation from His/Its Creation. That part of God which knows He will always "stand apart" from Creation. Come to think of it, this sounds an awful lot like the Shard that would be just floating around in space, not investing anywhere in particular.

Awakened objects vs Shardblades
Unlicensed Hemalurgist replied to Life&Death's question in Cosmere Q&A
What about Nightblood vs. an Honorblade? Will the fact that they're literally pieces of a Shard make a difference? -
I like your ideas, but F-Nicrosil already stores Investiture. Or are you referring to kinetic Investiture (Stormlight, Voidlight, BioChroma) instead of innate Investiture (sDNA)? And your H-Tanavastium is kind of what I was intending with H-Raysium. Maybe H-Tanavastium is just an Honorblade What about Aonium/Skaium?

Okay so I'm considering doing a possible Cosmere fanfiction project set on Scadrial during the Wax&Wayne period. Mostly because I like the aesthetic and the way the planet's not only slowly industrializing but also slowly integrating with the wider Cosmere (interference by foreign Shards etc.). One thing I want to do is do something with other Shards having "agents" on Scadrial, able to use their Shard's godmetal as either Mistings or Ferrings. But I'm having trouble coming up with ideas for godmetal properties that fit the Shard's Intent while also seeming like a natural extension of Allomancy/Feruchemy. I do have a few ideas, but I'm not sure if they make sense in-context. Raysium was the easiest so far; I sort of based its properties on what we've seen of Odium in Oathbringer: Raysium (Odium) A-Raysium: Can drain the emotions of others nearby to increase the raysium Misting's physical abilities (sort of a vampiric Brass/Pewter hybrid from Hell). A raysium Misting would be called a Voidworm. F-Raysium: A raysiummind stores the emotions of the raysium Ferring (echoes of how Odium seems to "feed" on emotions, "give me your pain," etc.) A raysium Ferring would be called a Voidheart. A raysium Twinborn would, of course, be called a Voidbringer. H-Raysium: Spike steals "cognitive shadow" of the target, which then takes control of the recipient (echoes of voidspren possession/Moash's fancy knife minus gemstone) "Trellium"/Bavadinium (Autonomy) [DISCLAIMER: I still have serious doubts about whether Autonomy really is "Trell," but for this prospective fic I'm rolling with it] A-Bavadinium: [No idea. Maybe burning Trellium "splits" your mind into different parts, letting you mentally multitask or use them as "parallel processors?" Echoes of F-Zinc and Autonomy's avatars?] F-Bavadinium: [No idea. Maybe something to do with the trellium Ferring's personal friction? Autonomy as ease-of-movement? I feel like I'm reaching here.] H-Bavadinium: Spike can steal any innate trait (strength/senses/intelligence/emotional fortitude), sort of like a "universal spike" for kandra Blessings that's also invisible to other Shards Edglium (Endowment) A-Edglium: [Burning edglium to convert it into Breath sounds interesting, but I'm not sure if it fits thematically. The idea being it wouldn't grant knowledge of Awakening, but a bead of it would give the edglium Misting a certain number of Breaths based on the amount burned. Could take or leave this one.] F-Edglium: [No idea at all.] H-Edglium: [I kind of like the idea of an Edglium spike leaving the victim alive, but spiking away their Breaths. Still, I'm really on the fence about how Awakening-centric edglium seems here.] Anyone have any comments or suggestions?

Ask Harmony very nicely. You can mail it through whatever Cosmere postal service delivers Hoid's letters.

The latter; I always pictured the "standard" Hemalurgic spike being a sharpened chisel-like implement. Though I do think it's cool that they don't have to be a particular size or shape to work. Vanilla, Milk Chocolate, Hershey's, and yes.

The Fused aren't Voidbinding
Unlicensed Hemalurgist replied to Calderis's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's also symmetrical, you heretic! [reports Confused to Vorin Church for blasphemy] -
It's an interesting theory. Leaving the spike in the donor would also have the handy side-effect of preventing Hemalurgic decay.

My top five: F-Zinc Atium (all uses) Trellium (you mysterious minxy metal, you...) A-Steel A-Iron

So, apparently if you Soulcast enough, your body begins to take on the characteristics of whatever Essence you're the most knowledgeable with. Like that one ardent in Words of Radiance whose face was turning to stone/crystal. But what if someone was a savant with meat Soulcasting? Would they just stay the same? Or would their begin producing more and more flesh? Or would they begin to turn into the characteristics of an inanimate slab of meat? Damnation, this is a creepy line of inquiry. In retrospect, this would be a good thread topic closer to Halloween. Oh well.

Controversial Cosmere thoughts
Unlicensed Hemalurgist replied to Matias's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Lift was the worst part of Edgedancer. I seriously cannot express how annoying I find her. It's like someone took all the many, many irritating things about Sera from Dragon Age Inquisition and somehow made them more irritating. Wyndle deserves a Medal of Honor for putting up with her. The "binding UN resolution" was a bit harsh, though. I'll settle for the DEA classifying Lift POV passages as a Schedule I controlled substance. -
I suppose, but most large cave systems are formed in limestone via water erosion, which is why they tend to be wetter environments. If the kandra Homeland is different, there's no textual evidence one way or the other.

Controversial Cosmere thoughts
Unlicensed Hemalurgist replied to Matias's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Controversial Cosmere Opinions? I have several: Moash is just Kelsier without a sense of humor. I don't understand liking/hating one but not the other. They're so similar. Trell is NOT Autonomy. It's too obvious; we're all getting baited for a big twist later on. There's a lot of padding in Way of Kings that could have been cut without losing anything important. Lift is pure cancer and should be banned from all future Cosmere books via binding UN resolution.
