[OB] There's something royal 'bout them locks...
SilverTiger replied to CosmereQuestioner's topic in Stormlight Archive
Evi is of Iriali descent, all Iriali have bright gold-colored hair. Plus, Evi has a brother (Toh) and is described as vapid. I can't imagine Vivenna being vapid. -
Um, guys, the way Brandon referred to it, I don't think it is going to be serious. Frightening, since they normally don't get ill, but not lethal. "A plague of the sniffles". And Rosharans are naturally healthier because of the natural investiture. That indicates they might be able to shake it off fairly quickly. So, they'll be scared, because they haven't much experience with illness, but they'll survive.

If Aladar had Shards before he became highprince, could he have been a lord in Gavilar or Sadeas's princedoms? That would give them another set of Shards (total of 3) to begin with. And if we are tracking the locations of Shards, how many of the highprinces have them? Also, if we are tracking Shards, it could be worthwhile to track the ones outside of Alethkar as well. Adolin's came from Rira, apparently, so Shards can pass between nations.

That means a lot of people are going to unexpectedly end up in Urithiru. Except, the crem-covered dome on the Stormseat gate didn't go, so would the palace? Or any other building on an oathgate?
-
What I wonder, is what will happen when they do unlock and start using the Kholinar one. After all, the palace is built ON TOP OF IT (I think?). That might be a major issue when using it, if the oathgate isn't the flat, open platform it originally was. What if they reappear in a wall or something? *shudders*

I know its terrible, but I find kind of funny that an illness we would ignore and go to school with is causing panic in Roshar. I mean, it is just a cold, guys. Sniffles, coughing, and a runny nose. I don't think it can actually kill you... especially if Rosharans are naturally healthier and more disease-resistant than us. Still, it makes me laugh a little when I read it. A plague of sniffles. (shakes head and bites lip to keep from sniggering during class).

[OB] Oathbringer Dust jacket and map!
SilverTiger replied to CosmereQuestioner's topic in Stormlight Archive
Then how are you reading these posts? Unless... do you have spikes instead? -
A far-off island is kind of a weird place for an oathgate, which was supposedly easily accessible for everyone. Are we sure there isn't one in modern Herdaz? Because then they could send Lopen and his infinite cousins to open it (along with a Radiant).
-
Why doesn't Rishir have an Oathgate and Iri have two? Jasnah could be wrong about the one in Kurth, or there are more than ten oathgates. Plus, are the Reshi Isles on the map the greatshells? I always thought that the island chain was actual islands, and the greatshells kind of wandered around the Reshi Sea (the islands are marked on a map, which is hard if they're mobile, and the size would a bit unrealistic even to Rosharan greatshells if true).

@Toaster Retribution Icewater has indeed appeared on maps before. -
It is possible to use Word to make a makeshift sheet. Although, lined paper works okay.

I tried printing it too, could not get the lines to come out clearly. Of course, I am really bad at software, so all I can do is hope that someone can solve this. Guess I just have to go back to lined paper...

Shard Numbers and how do they interact.
SilverTiger replied to Hawkido's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Surgebinding only appeared after H/C arrived, with the Knights Radiant. Also, did you see the note about Shin and Parshendi languages having the same roots? That indicates they once spoke the same language. Other languages likely arrived with H/C (if they brought other humans with them, or other humans followed them). These would be the roots of the other languages families. The WoB: Link:- 41 replies

Shard Numbers and how do they interact.
SilverTiger replied to Hawkido's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Actually, Horneaters are basically human, but have some Parshendi ancestors. Also, there are absolutely two Aimian languages, WoB plainly states that. That there is one for each species (the two Aimian species) is my own conjecture. He also stated that the Dawnate languages have similar grammar, but vastly different vocabulary. This means that it is likely the languages developed in isolation from each other (and probably other languages, or the grammar would have changed more), which fits the Shin, Horneater, and Parshendi languages. I take back what I said earlier about the length of time concerning their development, I went back and did some more research. It was likely isolation, not time.- 41 replies

Shard Numbers and how do they interact.
SilverTiger replied to Hawkido's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think the Horneaters and Shin are native, because they are noted as having languages from the Dawnate language family (which also includes the Parshendi language). There is a Reddit WoB on the language families, btw. The Dawnate languages separated a very, very long time ago- longer than the other languages, I think. This may indicate that the Shin, Horneaters, and Parshendi were three native civilizations of Roshar, before H/C arrived, bringing other humans. Although, the Aimians are also native (pretty sure about that), and they have two languages (probably one for each species).- 41 replies

That is a very good thought about dead Shardblades... I think that is is actually new. Very good. I like that one. Just, can you bring Stormlight into Shadesmar? And yes, non-shardbearers can go into Shadesmar- worldhoppers do it all the time. I, personally, would like to see Adolin awakens his Shardblade- a tearful scene where he speaks to the half-dead spren would be very sweet (or very sappy), especially if that sets him off on a "quest" to awaken it. Enjoy this idea, theorizers!

Book Recommendation for Sanderson Fan
SilverTiger replied to Dubisx's topic in General Brandon Discussion
This is an author who has written a lot of books, Mercedes Lackey. A lot of high fantasy, her Heralds of Valdemar series is the biggest and most famous. It is actually a lot of smaller series, all set in one world, mostly centered around around the kingdom of Valdemar. I liked the Exile's Honor/Exile's Valor duet and the Herald-Spy series the best of those, but By The Sword is good if you like woman-warriors, while Brightly Burning [standalone] and the Last Herald-Mage [trilogy] are really good, if tragic. It has a very good world-building and magic system, and the characters are very... different. Other series of her's (in other worlds) are the Bedlam's Bard books (urban fantasy), The Doubled Edge (historical fantasy, really good), and the Obsidian Mountain trilogy, which starts with The Outstretched Shadow. That last one is really good. It starts out classic elves, humans, and others against demonic hordes, but winds up very different. The male Knight-Mage is magically bound to a unicorn (and all that implies), the Elven Knight is in love with the female Wild-Mage healer, who is very independent and stubborn, and one of the pillars of human society, the Golden City, thinks elves are almost as bad as demons. And the demons may or may not be getting divine assistance very soon (they also like to torture people). Plus a few other twists. Try it. I second the Dragonriders of Pern books, those are classic. Also, Decision at Doona, same author. -
Rathalas is one of the biggest cities in Alethkar, on the north coast of the Sea of Spears. In case anyone's interested. It is also right on the border on the Kholin princedom.

I can relate. I have Asperger's Syndrome too, and my biggest difficulty is actually talking to people. I am smart, but often feel incapable of talking to other people, even about the simplest things. Also, people with Asperger's often tend to focus on studying specific topics. Another thing I'd like to mention is that while talking to other people, I often don't get some of what they are saying- the nuances of tone and face that are obvious to everyone else are incomprehensible to me; maybe Renarin has something like that. It would explain why he is so quiet and reserved. On other topics, where did we find out that Redin of Jah Keved has a Rhyshadium? Because if T's Radiant wasn't female, I'd guess that Redin was it.
-
Because the Blackthorn is ruthless, merciless, and will do whatever his brother commands. This is the Blackthorn, not Dalinar as we know him.
-
Hey, I just noiced this, but Ryshadium have rectangular pupils. That's interesting, especially combined with stone hooves.

I like the idea of Elhokar becoming Kaladin's squire. Elhokar is a king, and the Windrunners' are Protecting/Leading. Plus, he could learn a lot from Kaladin. There is a theory floating around that the bastard son of the highprince-turned-king of Jah Keved (the odd-eyed one in Mr. T's interlude) is a Radiant... but he is male. Also, I wonder where the archer, Teleb, is. It doesn't say he died, in fact, it indicates that he survived. But where is he now?
-
Elhokar and Kaladin, off to save Alethkar... there is so much that could go wrong. Or hilariously. And, Taravangian is very suspicious. Where did he find a Radiant? I doubt it is Lift, she would more likely go to the Azish.
-
I agree with your theory, but I have something to add concerning Nalan. There is actually a subtle difference between Justice and Judgment that I would like to explain. Judgment is basically, if someone is guilty, this is the punishment that the law says they should receive. Justice is a mixture of Judgment and Mercy. Also, your evidence that only one attribute is being twisted is good- Nalan is very confident, and Ishar is guiding him, but I wouldn't be so quick to assume it is the first one listed- that is a bit too predictable, and for all we know, the order in which they are listed is random, or can change. And I would like to point out that the person Nalan was talking to in WoR prologue, who is commonly believed to be Kalak, was very anxious and worried, which would fit if his "Resolute" is twisted. Also, the opposite of loving is actually complete selfishness. If you love, you care, if you are selfish, you don't care. Even hatred requires caring. So, Vedel could be really selfish or uncaring, or maybe a murderer or sadist. Which is... comforting, that one of the storming HERALDS OF THE ALMIGHTY might be a serial killer. Great. Just, great. To finish, I think this theory is a good one. Especially the Heralds=Fools bit. That was brilliant.
