Hi! Which one was your favourite?
-
You should talk to @ElephantEarwax. Last I checked he had ten or so breaths (acquired dubiously, but acquired all the same).

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVEN'T READ THE ENTIRE 17TH SHARD YET?! That's why we have a running total of the number of posts, so you know how many you have left to read. This counts as one down, 629,630 left to go by the way. Welcome! You should read my signature, it covers the basics. I have no idea what the CR is though.

John Greene. That book where the friend dies near the end? And it's still sad even though you saw it coming? It brought me to tears. When Spock died in Wrath of Khan. The whole scene in the warp core was so sad. I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Welcome! What's your favourite Sanderson book?
-
So I finally watched it and it was absolutely stunning. 10 out of 10, would recommend.

SPOILER TAG PLEASE! Would you mind editing that post to hide the SA spoilers? Thanks.

Brandon is a master of hitting you with dozens of realizations and plot developments right at the very end that you didn't see coming but probably should have because of all the foreshadowing. It can be emotional, I agree. I like how casual you are when you mention rereading books the size of toasters. I'm curious, which did you like better, the R Jordan books or the B Sanderson WoTs?

Welcome! I think this is the kind of question to put in one of the other threads (before it turns into spoilers). The theories section maybe?

Good luck!

Alcatraz! (because I liked the cover art) At first I didn't even realize that he was a epic fantasy writer, I thought he just did YA books. Luckily my library had some of his other stuff, and I got hooked on progressively longer and longer books until I found myself addicted to the heavy novels, staying up late at night reading, dreary eyed, ignoring the rest of the world as I sought that ultimate high-point in the text... I guess you could say Alcatraz was the gateway drug for me when it comes to Sanderson's books. Ironically, I finished the longer series like mistborn before Alcatraz because it took so rutabegaing long for the dark talent to come out. I'm still mad about that. Welcome to the Shard!

Sorry, @Quell. I think that your jokes are getting a frosty reception. I thaw this once before, but that guy was more arctic-ulate. Anyway, it's not your fault, around here people who tell puns often get the cold shoulder. I see (geddit?) it all the time.

*waves hand vigorously* Ooh! Ooh! I want to hear it!

You know the mistborn house war? Picture that, but over cookies.
-
You've noticed their activity in the thread next door, no? Although I disagree with some of whats been said by DA representatives (they've glossed over the ethical aspects of their work), I do agree that this isn't the place to have a proper debate. I encourage you to take a look at some of the DA's thread, but lurk around a bit before committing. Some people who enter can't escape, and others, well, it was nice knowing you.

Spoilers are usually only spoliers if the book came out within the last year, or if it's important and spoilery info. But this is your intro topic so... *shrug*. Edit: random details are usually okay

Hello! Welcome to the Shard. Quick warning, there's a little bit of a turf war going on right now, so please accept my apologies in advance. What's your favourite cosmere book?

That's understandable. The gist of it that the dark alley sells spiked cookies. In an effort to flood the market and ruin their business, Im giving away cookies, but ones that are not spiked. It drives them crazy.

Welcome! I'd recommend Elantris. Not only because it's awesome, but also because I think it's the oldest out of those options. But if you already have some knowledge of how scadrial works, then that could be a good choice as well. All three are great reads.

Hi! Welcome. I think there's an alpha version of a high imperial translator kicking about somewhere online... Might be worth checking out, even if it's just for laughs.

Do You Use All of Your Upvotes Everyday?
Archer replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Does anyone know when the upvote count resets? I don't think I've ever used them all up in one day, but if I did it would be good to know. I'm guessing it's midnight. But is it midnight in my timezone? in Greenwich? or Brandon's timezome? And if it is, is it based on my internet wifi-thing (whatever the lingo is) and where the website thinks I am? Which raises the question, if I travel to another timezone, do my upvotes reset early? COULD I GET UNLIMITED UPVOTES BY CONSTANTLY FLYING AROUND THE WORLD BACKWARDS?!? -
That's only half true. The rank system is a way of keeping track of how many up votes someone has gotten. Those are the little heart and arrow symbols to the bottom right of a post. The more you collect, the better your rank. There's a list somewhere that has all of them if you search for it. Although it's more likely that creating more posts will give you a better rank, they're not actually connected. I've seen as many as 200 up votes on a single post, and back when you used to be able to give down votes people tried to get the lowest score possible. It's all pretty pointless, but luckily there's a whole thread made for people to vent about it. (these stupid ranks I think it's called).
