  1. New suggestion: we make a bunch of super specific rules. But we keep them on the books as a last resort. They can be enacted by a majority members vote, but they're like a state of emergency - used only when stuff gets crazy so we can get everyone back on track. The rest of the time we use a freeform style, but with some restrictions and codes of best practice for fairness.
  2. I did not know that, and that has changed my perspective on your ideas. They seem more feasible now
  3. I meant, fighting actual people is different than fighting made up beings. They give up less easily. (I assume that in that rp they don't fight each other to the death, but I don't know for sure) Here's what I'd say is off limits: Mistborn with access to chronium, duralumin, God metals Feruchemists with access to chromium Anyone above X Heightening Fullborns Anyone with unique weapons in the cosmere (Eg Nightblood) Unless they have a good weakness. Eg we'll give you more power if your character is blind.
  4. I too read the free form post. It's a good idea, but works best against non-sentient enemies. I do like the idea of having multiple character though, it would get boring playing the same power set all the time Mac, how about we at least make off limits powers. Eg. No Fullborns.
  5. I can see OP issues. I think we should rank characters by their magic level. Eg. Misting is a 1 Misting savant 1.5 Mistborn is a 10 Fullborn is 100 Anyone with a Shard blade is plus 1. You add up your total based on everything you have. Everyone aims for a score of about 100. Edit: The are just randomly chosen numbers. Don't get hung up on the numbers.
  6. This might be an oddly specific question, but If we want our character to be something not human is that okay? For example, I RP as a half-koloss
  7. Here's what we do: when someone posts in the intro section, the first person to respond adds a link to the social groups page saying 'you should consider joining a guild'. Then we all go in with our own posts that are neutral in content, but they'll see in our sigs advertisements for our specific guilds.
  8. He's kidding about the cookies. I disagree with your opinion that the story is slow. That said, maybe if you read it again, you'll be more impressed by world building and intricacies of the plot. Even if you don't, don't let one book sour your opinion of Brandon’s works. He's got lots of other stuff you can read, each with their own charm and value.
  9. I'd like to see something like a thriving village with a plethora of buildings, alleys, tunnels and stuff that people can move into to do their thing. 1. IMO because they were traitors from the start. Hardly anyone who joined without being part of another group first was disloyal. 2. I don't like the DA's actions intro thread. Hemalurgy is evil. 3. About the same time my signature changed to what it is now 4. Because the DA is significantly more knowledgeable about dangerous stuff. There's no sense provoking an enemy when you can get them to underestimate you instead. Plus spies made stuff complicated. 5. N/A
  10. You know you're a Sanderfan when: Your hardcover copy of Oathbringer is your bookend. You have to think about if your vials of metal are small enough to take on a plane. You try to use texting acronyms but accidentally write book shortforms. this happens to me a lot WOK On your phone, the first suggestion that comes up when you type 's' is Sanderson. Followed by storms.
  11. Thank you @Stormblessed Dolphin.
  12. I'll PM you.
  13. If it's any consolation @ElephantEarwax,
  14. I can neither confirm nor deny details of any operation without the Secretary's approval. For what it's worth, here's what I had for the system: Combat is cyclical [turns are taken in a regular series of rounds, each player going one after another]. On their turn, the combatant may do any action that would realistically take less than 10 seconds to complete from the viewpoint of an observer [Note: speed bubbles would allow you to do more]. For almost all purposes, there is no relevance to the end of a round or the beginning of a round. On their first turn, each member is unaware of their adversary unless they have reason to be [eg. prearranged duel] (and thus has not prepared any actions or items beyond what they normally would have in the course of their day-to-day activities/what their base character has). On their first action, the members become aware of each other. The initiator of the violence goes first, followed by their opponent. If there is more than two members engaged, then the order alternates between the initiator’s team and their opponent’s team until every member has taken a turn, at which point the round ends. A character who successfully surprises another gains a surprise advantage. This advantage halves the damage of any attack the surprised member attempts until the surprise advantage ends (after the first round, but it may be extended at the leisure of the mediator). An attacker with a surprise advantage also gains an extra turn immediately following their first turn, if the mediator thinks it logical and needed given the circumstances. During a member’s turn they may choose one or more of the following options (or another if the mediator allows it). The mediator keeps a running tally of the effects of all actions on player’s health. Health is determined using a hit-point system. Each player starts with 100 HP, and has HP subtracted from their total until they reach zero or less, at which point they die. A player can not lose more than 90 HP in a single round. Any actions effect on HP is determined by the mediator. a. Attack. A player that attacks another may use any reasonable means at their disposal to harm another player. They describe their attack and their intended outcome. If the mediator disagrees with the suggested outcome, they may change it. No godmodding is allowed. If an attack also damages the attacker, then their HP may be modified accordingly. For example, a bomb blast where both members are within range. b. Defensive action. A player may use reasonable means to prevent themselves being harmed. Examples include modifying their HP through healing, or preparing defenses like shields. c. Sense. A player may attempt to use their senses to discover new information. The success of the sense action is determined by the mediator, who will use a random die roll to decide how well the player does. The mediator will then tell the player their results. d. Other action. A player may choose to complete an action that has no effect on their opponent or them. For example, moving. You can do more than one type of action if it’s still within the time restraints of the round. For example, run 20 meters and shoot your bow. A player may not act on knowledge that they have no logical reason to know. For example, they can not diffuse a bomb hidden in a monkey if they do not know about the bomb to begin with. They can however attempt a sense action, which if successful would give them access to the knowledge that they seek.
  15. Quick! Before he changes this ^ give it lots and lots of upvotes. Because as we know:
  16. Hi. As a D&D player, I know how that system works pretty well. I'm going to type up the proposal for the hp style fights with really structured turns, so we can get a sense of how it would work. I'll post it when I'm done. If someone wants top put together one for the more looser structured style that would be great
  17. (I just want to avoid someone being in 2 fights at once, dying in one permanently, there've ruining the 2nd fight.) Agreed. That makes a lot of sense. But what if you're last post is in the intro threads? Or does that count as in character?
  18. One more thing I thought about last night. We should make it good form not to engage someone in multiple fights at the same time. With the dying system etc,it would just be confusing at the end. I suggest that the mediators highly discourage an assassaination if they know the person is already being assassinated at the time. Same with duels
  19. Welcome! I can't answer your question. But, that's why we have a Q&A Section! You might want to post it there too.
  20. Umm... I know there's a way. If you look at people like @Chaos's profiles it's right next to the about me section (or if you're on mobile, in the dropdown under it). I've never done it so you'll have to ask around for help. I suspect it's in your settings somewhere. Sorry I can't be of more help.
  21. I've got to go to sleep soon. I suggest over the next 24 hours we open the floor to nominations. Anyone can nominate anyone for the positions of unbiased and mediators. Tomorrow we'll reconvene and give people the chance to reject or accept the nomination, then vote to confirm them. I'll go first. I nominate @MacThorstenson to be an Unbiased. There's more unfinished business (we need to finalize base rules for violence and the system that they use, we need to get our topics in order, and if @Nohadon hasn't already he should read my proposal for the agreement (see post with red text)) That said, we're close to being done! Good work everyone.
  22. You should make a post in the Gallery. (you can make a pictures section on your profile page as well) I'm sure we'd all love to see what you've come up with!
  23. What time zone?
  24. In EST the best times for me are 11:30 am to 1:30 pm (spare), and 4-10 pm (but that can be stretched to later into the night if it's important)
