I think the Isaac the Intern may grow a conscience. I think that unrest in the crowd would be a reasonable response. Normally, as the mediator, I'd sic a dragon on anyone who tries to interfere with the fight. Or just throw up a speed bubble to end the fight really quickly (from the audience's point of view.) The gamemaster in me still likes the idea of combatants having to choose between saving their partner but surrendering, or carrying on with the fight to try to win but risking leaving their partner to die. High stakes makes for good ratings. But as we saw in the Hunger Games, people get tired of that after a while. (And then it's berries for me .) Maybe killing someone in a duel would cause the people to revolt afterwards, and an anti-dueling sentiment would emerge, resulting in reform for later duels. Or maybe we could include the audience. We can set up polls. Should Atticus be saved? Vote to decide his fate! That would allow the morals of the audience to be expressed. But for this duel I'd need the combatants to sign off on allowing audience interaction (aka ending the fight early because there's a mob). Until I get that, any mob would have to be kept out of the combat zone, but is free to trash the seats etc.

"Your slytherin logic has no place here!" Klasten retorted. He spat on the ground. "I can see you're all just a load of yellow-bellied greedists. Well, let's see what good your lofty ambitions do you when you're dead!" He squeezed the trigger. Bullets flew through the air, smashing into the walls, nearly hitting the assembled adventurers. He then dived to the floor to get out of Alum's line of fire. "You'd better run," he shouted. "But know that you won't make it very far!" He maintained the barrage of bullets. Hundreds of bullets poured out of his gun, yet none of them managed to hit anyone. Not one. One did hit an exposed pipe, exposing the coolant contained inside to the air, causing a thick cloud of white smoke to begin filling the room. It became hard to see. An alarm blared, a low clanging noise. "You can't hide forever!" Klasten bellowed at them. "I will find you! You will rue..." The rest of his words were drowned out. But he'd gotten his message across.

Klasten's ears burned at the Liebrarian's ridiculous proposal. “I’m out,” Klasten announced. “I’m not losing my moral high ground over this. This man’s just trying to trick us.” He pulled a Chekhov's Gun from his bag. He cocked the pistol, then pointed it at the assembled adventurers. “Once you join him, there’s no going back. Come with me. Walk away from this all. Know that if you try to go with him, I’ll be forced to stop you.” He aimed the gun at Silas’ chest. “That includes you, bud.”

Looks great! I'll add her. Will do.

You should give this a read. ^ But hey, independently coming to a conclusion others have made means that said conclusion is more likely to be accurate. Sanderfan achievement unlocked!

Denied! There's no stick reference anywhere in that bio I'll add it.

*has been crouched behind the couch for hours, the lights dimmed, waiting for Prince Dusty to walk in the door so I can leap out and start his surprise party* *Prince Dusty sneaks up behind me, and shouts:* THAT'S NOT HOW IT'S DONE, DUSTY! You know what, I'm still going to wish you a happy birthday, even though it's redundant. So there! Happy Birthday.

Added! Hope he doesn't go into politics. He'd make a lot of stump speeches.

Isaac paused. Something big had just happened. Ambrosia had disappeared. Did she just vaporize her? Cool! he thought.- 221 replies

I would approve that character, but I've recently learned that standing next to a beaver while holding a wooden wand is a bad idea. I've ordered a new wand, but delivery to subforums takes a while.

Isaac loaded his double bagel launcher (which looked like a T-shirt cannon, but the name didn't conflict with any trademarks) and started firing the sweet breadstuff at random people in the crowd. "People of Stadium! The day has come. Consume this delicious snack, and join the double bagel revolution! You know it's safe because everybody's doing it!" He laughed in a manner that was nothing short of maniacal.- 221 replies

*Waves wand of approval* Approved! (But I'm going to start denoting these characters with italics so people realize they're... special.)

Normally, yes. The fight would end as soon as you die, then within seconds healers would descend upon the field and heal/uncurse/reconstruct you. But this is a 2v2 battle. Theoretically, one of the combatants could die really fast, then the other three of them fight it out for hours. At that point, I thought it would implausible to resurrect the character. I considered having dead people be airlifted out of the stadium, but the way I've set it up it pressures the deceased's companion to end the fight (one way or another). Credit to the D&D manual where I stole the idea from. If a player is below 0 HP but above - 10 HP when the fight ends, I'll consider them to have been unconscious, and thus able to be healed. If they dip below - 10, there's no bringing them back. (A consequence I introduced because this fight is more connected to the plot/continuity than ones past).I'm piloting this system with hopes it might be worth applying to other fights. We'll see how it works out.

*leans back on rocking chair* Back in my day, the storm waters swept into the catacombs. You know, that network of alleys underneath the alleys. And Hoid darnit if it didn't take any course it pleased. Who am I to tell a storm which way it should blow? It just seemed to go wherever was convenient. Yes! Here's a list of denominations: 1= Chryst 2 = Two chrysts 10 = Ten chrysts 100 = A hundred Chrysts (or, as some people have nicknamed it, one hundred chrysts) 1000 = Most people don't have that much money, so we didn't both naming that. It's like a dollar. You could call a tenth a dime, and one a loonie, and two a toonie, but we don't use them often enough for that. There's mostly just used for bribes and payment for assassinations. And those can be negotiated in whole Chrysts. I've always imagined that people manage to carry dozens of 1C coins by drilling holes through the middle and stringing them on necklaces. Our monetary system is one of those things that makes sense until you think through how it's applied in practice.

YES. Approved. All of them. I don't care if they make sense, they're too awesome not to be included.

Here's another Reckoners WoB. I love this one for a couple of reasons. One of them is because it reads like a parent hinting to their kid to confess to something, but the kid's got attitude. Imagine Brandon as a six year-old boy when you read this: *Brandon pulls out his Canuck action figures and the meeting ends in chaos*

Isaac was unfazed. "Yeah man, take as many as you want." He gestured to the double bagel food truck in the seat beside him. Someone had painted a mustache on it to sneak it into the arena. Isaac was too desperate for a sale to worry about the motivations of his customers.- 221 replies

Challenge of Champions [2v2]: Ambrosia/Atticus vs. Max/Mara

Isaac the Intern slowly chewed his crispy, golden double bagel. The rich crunching sound reverberated around the stadium. Unnoticed, a tiny drop of freshly melted butter rolled down the grill-kissed side of one bagel, plunged downward, and fell atop the face of the other bagel. It was heavenly. "Oh, hey," he said, noticing Riathor. "Want some?" He pulled his spare double bagel from the paper bag at his feet and threw it to him. "Tell your friends, bro. Caasi's Double Bagels, the best bagels at the arena.™"- 221 replies
