@Stark Got mine today!!!! The artwork is beautiful. I love how the front and back endpapers create one scene. Howard Lyon did a fantastic job with the hands. There were two places when I ordered my book to put personalizations. I guess I must have entered the info wrong because it didn’t get personalized. One was comments and one was personalization. I put my name in the comments section. It was highlighted on the printed out paper I received so maybe I did put it in the right place and he just didn’t see it? Oh well, I live in Utah and can take it to a signing easier that most people I suppose. It is beautiful. The paper feels fantastic.

So . . . Questioner [PENDING REVIEW]Was Azure hunting the Herald or is she hunting Zahel?Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]She's <not?> hunting Zahel.https://wob.coppermind.net/events/312/#e8955 I was near there during that question and I remember chatting about it and I think someone said that Azure/Vivenna was hunting Nightblood. So that would mean she wasn’t hunting Zahel/Vasher or a Herald. There were some other things said about speculation about the book Nightblood, that pointed as to why Vivennacwoukd be hunting Nightblood, but I think it was just fan speculation— nothing Brandon himself said.

Susebron's Childhood Book...Sixth of Dust Connection?
JoyBlu replied to fifthfinger's topic in Warbreaker
I did not know that. Thanks for the info. I’ve been listening to WarBreaker looking for clues to see if Tonk Fah’s Colorful bird showed any sign of being an Aviar. Perhaps I’m wasting my time. -

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
JoyBlu replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You are in a conference center in Vegas and as you are riding up an escalator you see this art work and you start wondering if that’s how the Pits of Hathsin look like upclose. Then you go back down the escalator to get a closer look and wonder where the Atium could be hiding inside. Then you wonder if your hands will scar if you could just get your hand in deep enough. -
@Subvisual Haze love your well arranged insights. Thank you for sharing. I can’t see anything I disagree with and I feel like my eyes have been opened. I was hoping that we would find out more about why Jasnah was considering assassinating the Queen — and I think we will know someday — but not till we get Jasnah’s POV. I wonder if Moash’s grandparents being silversmiths have anything to do with the Cosmere and the importantance of metals on the other Cosmere planets. The one that starts with TH especially. Were they world hoppers, or at least interacted with them?

Good alright bad — but you thought it was great! I’d love to see an option for Great and another option for Incredible (as compared to your WoR experience)

I felt that way at the end, especially regarding Amaram, And I felt that the chapters were short (especially in part 1) but most of the book I felt held deep, majestic, chapters that were little mini-masterpieces. I felt that the world-building / themes that connected / bridged those brilliant chapters were missing. @maxal as always, i quite enjoyed your analysis. You seemed to say many thoughts that were itching inside my brain but had not fully formed yet. Which brings me to my next point. I loved WoR. I read it right after reading WoK and I read it in the summer. My kids were out of school, the days were long, I read outside while my kids played with friends, I believe I fed my kids snowcones on a few occasions for dinner while reading those two books back to back. My house didn’t need as much attention because we were basically living outside that month. I reflected on the book while exercising outside, while doing laundry and other mundane but necessary tasks. It was a relaxing time in my life. Contrast that to OB coming out in November. Talk about a stressful time of year. It didn’t help that I chose to camp out to get a low numbered book. (It was freezing and I didn’t sleep hardly at all) but Yes, I would do it again if given the chance. My kids are all back at school, they need help with homework and I had to have nutritious meals for them on a consistent basis. Not to mention all the Holiday prep, (Thanksgiving & Christmas) a lot of which must be done when the kids are away at school lest they figure out what actually goes on behind the curtain. I had relatives come and visit, and had to host and entertain when my brain wanted to just read!!! My life was stressful, there was no time for reflection, and I did not enjoy OB as much as the first two books. I was living with people and interacting with people in real life who had finished OB before me (I took 2 weeks to read it, my son was done in 2 days). Obviously it’s because I was making his dinner!!!! But i felt pressure to finish it so I could discuss it with them. Under normal circumstances I would not have started a book of that length during that time of year. I loved the parts in both WoK and WoR where I cried. The parts where I set down the book and just couldn’t believe what Amaram had done to Kaladin. When I discovered that Shallan had a shardblade and was a double murderer. I set the book down and my brain connected all of those pieces and it was so rewarding. The closest I got to that in OB was discovering Vivenna. Another thought to consider— I read and responded to all the sample chapters for OB. I read many comments of others as well. I loved every minute of those sample chapters. I can’t help but wonder how having week after week to reflect and digest those three chapters and then diving into the feast of the rest of the book influenced my OB experience. It made me see things I may have missed. But I think it also disconjointed the experience for me. The book wasn’t as continuous because of that (but I’m not complaining) Did I like OB? Yes. Did I love it? No — but that doesn’t mean I won’t grow to love it. I didn’t love those first parts of Way of Kings the first time I read them, but after I read WoR, I liked those first parts of WoK so much more. Perhaps there is more set-up going on in OB than we realize. It’s not the end. I am planning on doing a full read through of OB this summer. Perhaps the more relaxed me will enjoy it more.

Here is the quote from the kindle version page 678 in OB is where it starts

I love the analysis too @Varion and if you are adding things, I would add the month as well. As I wonder if the month corresponds to a person associated with that Herald that the rattle is telling the future about. 1.) Collected on Chachabah 1171, 10 seconds pre-death (#3 Chach) 2.) Collected on Shashahes 1171, 31 seconds pre-death (#6 Shash) 3.) Collected on Kakashan 1171, 5 seconds pre-death (#8 Kak) 4.) Collected on Tanatesev 1171, 30 seconds pre-death (#9 Tanat) 5.) Collected on Jesanach 1172, 11 seconds pre-death (#1 Jes) This I think is true in #17 as I think it will refer to a future child of Shallan — who is a radiant under Shash and shares the SHA’s in their names I’ve also wondered if rattles listed as seconds that are divisible by 5 or 10 should be categorized together for some yet unknown reason. But perhaps I’m off my rocker and only looking for things that are not there.

@stonedshaman — calling attention to this thread for you.
-
Thanks @MonsterMetroid for tagging me so I saw this thread. I have been very interested in this topic. @stonedshaman there is a thread I will link you to that does discuss the chicken’s abilities but there is no conclusion @taxilian had a conversation with Brandon while Brandon was signing books that indicated that there were clues about the power of the Aviar in some (or one) of the cosmere books. I bet we can figure it out. Personally, I am now wondering if those clues are in WarBreaker. I am planning a reread but there were lots of birds in WarBreaker (tortured ones too) that I didn’t give the attention they deserved the last time I read. @ccstat have you noticed any color clues in WB yet? I wish I would have asked Brandon if there were Aviars in WB. I think the answer is yes. Since we now know that Autonomy is the shard responsible for First of the Sun and the Aviars I’ve also wondered if there are clues in WhiteSand. But since I only have white sand in a word document it is not as easy to read as WB.

poll [OB] Who is your least favorite Antagonist?
JoyBlu replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
I voted for “Lady Lewshi” because I had no idea who she was. I figured if she was forgettable then she wasn’t my favorite! It sounded like a Mistborn name to me. But now that I know it was Lady Leshwi from OB we were talking about I have to say that I thought she was a minor character who may be influencial in Moash’s arc but I don’t feel like I know enough about her to dislike her. She was respected by her peers and can’t really die. She showed interest/curiosity towards Moash. No strong emotions towards her either way. I was really intrigued by Amaram until the end of OB. I feel that some of his story was cut/trimmed/missing. I love/hate Taravangian but enjoy his scenes. Especially the scene where he and Dalinar were sitting by the fireplace. His scenes make me think. Moash is a sad character to me. I pity him. Like a child you see making wrong choices but know the only way he will learn is to experience the consequences of his decisions on his own. But he is “burning bridges” with Bridge 4 and I believe now that it’s too late for him to rejoin that crowd. So he will find a new crowd where he will perceive himself as the leader (like Kaladin) but realize later he was a puppet for someone else just as Vivenna realized in WB. -
I’m sure that I missed a lot. Just realized a few minutes ago that Shalash is the daughter of Jezrien. I didn’t know that until a few minutes ago. But I did recognize so many amazing connections that I’m still having fun with the book. — Collected on Palahevan 1173, 73 seconds pre-death, by the Silent Gatherers. Subject was a beggar of some renown, known for his elegant songs.[21] This rattle is believed to refer to the Herald Shalash, the daughter of the Herald Jezrien, Herald of Kings and patron of the Order of Windrunners.[22]Shalash is also Baxil'smistress who destroys art, including depictions of a specific Herald, believed to be those of Shalash herself. This sample is particularly interesting. If the Rattles are really forward-looking, this suggests that Shalash has recently started her destruction of artwork. Given that Ishar has only recently ignited a religious war, and that statues of Shalash still exist (as they would likely not after 4,000 years of focused destruction), what have the Heralds been doing and where have they been between the last Desolation and now?

— Collected on Vevanev 1173, 107 seconds pre-death, by the Silent Gatherers. Subject was an out-of-work Veden sailor.[18] Unknown. May represent a future division in an order of the Knights Radiant. Brothers: we have Gavilar & Dalinar Oroden & Kaladin Renarin & Adolin it sounds like Eshoni or Venli to me though. Standing over Gavilar’s body as they weep because they & their people will die because of his death. — Collected on Shashanan 1173, 23 seconds pre-death, by the Silent Gatherers. Subject was a darkeyed youth of sixteen years. Sample is of particular note.[24] Unknown as yet, but likely to refer to a climatic event. So, I was just reading the thread by @TheDoomsday (sorry, I don’t know how to link the entire thread, just my own comments in it) And this death rattle made me think of Shallan holding a suckling child and contemplating killing it. Seems fitting since she killed so many of her other family members. Of course if #35 if referring to the same situation then — Observed circa Ishi 1173 by Taravangian. Subject was King Valam of Jah Keved.[4] Prediction that someone will be allowed to live and therefore Odium will win a victory. Possibly connected to 17. Then Shallan won’t kill her child and somehow that is a win for Odium (the night). — Collected on Kakashah 1173, 142 seconds pre-death, by the Silent Gatherers. Subject was a Shin sailor, left behind by his crew, reportedly for bringing them ill luck. Sample largely useless.[30] Subject may be resisting speaking their visions because they understand what the Silent Gatherers are doing. So my first impression upon reading this today is that it was someone speaking to Hoid. Perhaps from the new cryptic spren he picks up? ————— @Brgst13 thanks for this amazing, organized post. I hadn’t put all the death rattled together before hadn’t read them after finishing Oathbringer. I really enjoyed reading them in your well-thought our format.

[OB] Will Shallan and Adolin have a child?
JoyBlu replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ohhhhh!!!! I like this!!!! and @Blazenella have your upvote now! I’ve replenished some! I do hope we get to see Shallan be a happy wife before she faces another crisis. I also hope that her kids don’t end up killing her. -
@HoidvsVoid thanks for asking this question. I had a similar thought when reading —especially Bashin being Wayne with the hat. I wonder if Bashin isn’t Wayne, if it is a relative of Wayne. His father perhaps? He had to gotten his has fetish somewhere — right? Maybe from this guy. I have also wondered about Wax’s uncle being a world hopper. Or maybe Bashin is a different character from Scadrial that came from Roshar but we don’t know it yet. (Kind of like Cob) Thanks for catching us up on where those characters are now. Adolin’s fashion take on Scadrial would be fun to read indeed! Somehow, I had always imagined Wayne as being older than Wax. I just checked the Coppermind — and it does appear that Wax is older than Wayne. Maybe all that time spent in Speed Bubbles aged him in my imaginative brain. Thanks for pointing that out. As for disappearing from Scadrial long enough to be in Roshar for a few years — I do think that is entirely possible. 20 years in the Rough. Not many would notice if they had left for 5 years. I do believe that they moved around a bit — especially at the beginning of those 20 years. However— that being said, because of events in Bands of Morning, I don’t think that Wax & Wayne have consciously worldhopped at that point. Doesn’t mean they won’t in the future though or that they didn’t as children and just didn’t realize what was happening. (We don’t know much about Wayne’s parents) or why Wax’s Uncle is obsessed with his projects. - maybe he met someone or had an experience that he is chasing after. I’m waiting to see what else is motivating Uncle.

[OB] Will Shallan and Adolin have a child?
JoyBlu replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yup! You are correct. That is what I get when trying to post and make dinner at the same time. (At least I didn’t burn dinner!) Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll go edit it to fix it and then I will do the dishes!!!! I would/should give you an upvote for catching that but I’m all out for the day — sorry. -
[OB] Will Shallan and Adolin have a child?
JoyBlu replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
Let’s look at other kids in OB Well we have Oroden, Kaladin’s brother. And Gavinor, Elhokar and Aesudan's son, Gavilar & Navani’s grandson, Dalinar’s grandnephew, Jasnah & Adolin’s cousin once removed. And Taravangian’s grandchildren And the girl who Hoid/Wit rescued and gave to Kheni & Cob. (Same Cob from Mistborn - carriage driver) I really wouldn’t be surprised if Shallan did have a child with Adolin. I keep thinking that Adolin will die and Shallan will get together with Kaladin to raise the child. Kind of a Pearl Harbor thing. (Can’t you just see Kaladin teaching the kid to tie their first pair of boots!) Not sure when that child will come, but I think it will happen. Still laughing at the thought of it being triplets!!!! Three babies for three different mothers!!!! I hadn’t thought of the effects of Stormlight on a pregnancy. Very interesting ideas. It will be neat to see how they play out. There was some foreshadowing in OB about Shallan becoming pregnant. I remember because I didn’t imagine her as a mother at all and it startled me when I read it. It was at the end of part one where she drew herself as pregnant. I can’t find the quote now but I’ll keep looking for it I think we will see all these kids grown up and interact in books 6-10. @Dreamstorm EDIT: I found the quote. Turns out I only imagined her as pregnant. Mother & Plumper. I guess those worked in my imagination to make Shallan pregnant in the future. But if Shallan sees herself as a mother then I believe the magic will draw her towards that — just like how the Gods view themselves in WarBreaker. -
I actually really like the idea of Renarin’s power being a combination of a normal SurgebingervProgression surge and voidbinding Illumination Surge. It fits with what I see his powers as, and how Glys is corrupted. It doesn’t necessarily connect him to the windrunners (Bridge 4) — as I was hoping he would share a “power” with the windrunners too — but that is ok. But if we have not seen voidbinding before then how can illumination be a voidbinding power? As we saw Renarin’s ability to see the future when he wrote on the walls. (Or is illumination not voidbinding, but a third type of surge?) @KidWayne thank you for the visual explanation and all your photoshop work. I see what you are saying and like it. It’s like seeing pieces fall together and while it opens up more questions, it makes sense.

theory Voidlight is not Odium's Investiture!
JoyBlu replied to Hoiditthroughthegrapevine's topic in Stormlight Archive
@hoiditthroughthegrapevine The Voidbinder chart at the end of WoK has always baffled me. I appreciate your thoughts on it and the way you analyzed the colors and lines. You gave me a lot to think about! Now I wonder if Renarin has one power from the Knights Radiant (progression) and one power (the ability to see the future) from the Voidbringer chart. What happens if you overlay those two charts? His corrupted spren granted powers from two different sources I also have wondered about the moons. Blue = Honor, Green = Cultuvation. There are three bondsmiths. Three moons. But Odium is not violet (as you stated). — but some have said red & violet are the same. (I don’t think they are) The other thing in the books that you didn’t mention that were violet are the wines. I need to go look at that wine illustration again. If somehow the violet wines were influencing Dalinar that entire time he was drinking . . . . . . and consumed by the thrill . . . . Thanks for your your well thought out post.- 68 replies

[OB] How long Dalinar courted his wife
JoyBlu replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
So that does that mean in the first editions of Way of Kings, Moash’s eye color was green and now in the latest printed edition it is now brown? (Which lightens to tan?) -
———————————————— @JoyBlu Evi – In Oathbringer. She uses strange idioms. You had mentioned to watch / be on the lookout for people using strange idioms. . . . (examples “White as the sun at night” ) Is Evi native to Roshar? BRANDON SANDERSON: Yes. Her people are related to the Iri – who are not native to Roshar. She is not Irili herself. And all the Irili – they are native to Roshar – the people who are born now – even if their people aren’t. So Evi you could say right, like no humans are native to Roshar. But, Yes, She (Evi) was born on Roshar. @JoyBlu Would she (Evi) might have some of the same blood in her that Vivenna & Siri from WarBreaker would have? BRANDON SANDERSON: I’ll RAFO that. ——————————————- @MonsterMetroid mentioned later in that thread that something may have happened on Nalthis in the past that caused a migration to Roshar. I appreciate what @Aminar pointed out about the names. I don’t think they are “seeping” through. I think it is intentional. I bet there are more too. I’m thinking that all the cosmere books/planets will be connected to Roshar by Stormlight Book 10. It makes sense to have it all converge at a place on a planet that none of the humans are native to. More of an equal ground that way. And as for names of Spren — I still think there is a connection with SYL and GLYS. Too many of the same letters to be a coincidence. And with Renarin’s being kinda-sorta part of Bridge 4, but not really, I think it fits and that GLYS is a corrupted spren that is partly windrunner/???bondsmith??? and partly truthwatcher/Edgedancer. ( shared Progression surge). So GLYS could be the coolest spren because it’s not predictable at following the rules of the orders.
