  1. I didn't like much Zahel and Kaladin dialogue, it just felt rushed and out of place, just too much explanation that really depends on Warbreaker knowledge to makes sense. It would be superior if this dialogue was sparsed through more chapters rather than this lecture

The fact Kaladin barely understands what Zahel was talking didn't helped the dialogue either

Brandon was always very subtle when inserting Cosmere elements in Stormlight Archive and I'm aware he's trying to change it now, but he needs to find a balance, this writing was SCREAMING Cosmere awareness, rather than just teasing it. Didn't worked for me

About the story itself, I hope Zahel have already shared his knowledge with Dalinar and/or Jasnah, I don't see why would him hide important information about what Fused are supposed to be

So, Awakening has more than 4 types? Or maybe the types have simply been changed? Type 1 is a Returned, but Zahel seems to believe that type 1 are Spren instead. Type 2 is lifeless, and Zahel has branded that as all beings that are “back from the dead.” looks like lifeless are in the same category as Retuned now.

logicspren seem to work as warning or informing lights lights, based on certain stimuli. Huh.

I guess  it was only a expansion of what being Type 1, 2 or whatever, means. Both Returned and Spren are Type 1, meanwhile Heralds, Lifeless and The Fused are all Type 2

  3. So far all my Stormlight Books are digital, the series was never published in my country so I've never had a chance to get a physical copy, shipping fees being excruciatingly expensive never helped either

But since late 2019 Amazon started selling international books on their online store with more accessible price tags and no shipping fee!

I decided to wait ROW release to buy all 4 SA books together, now one month before release it's time to decide:  Hardcover or Paperback?

Right now, I can get all 4 books for around 458 BRL for paperback and 753 BRL for hardcover

I don't have much free money to spend, 458 BRL is already a blow on my finances, so I really appreciate your help

Can you guys can provide me photos so I can decide which version I'll finally take ?

Does paperback version gets all maps and illustrations? It's the main reason for me to take the physical copy

That is highly debatable. It certainly did not look like an oathgate or like Jasnah.

His spirit/ghost/spren moved from one place to another. But so do spren and other Cognitive Shadows without bodies. In fact so do the Singers who animate Thunderclasts. The only unique ability he has shown was partially dissolving his body and creating a new body. He showed an inability to transport anything but his mind, again in contrast to Jasnah or an oath gate. She was not nude when she met Hoid.

Doesn't look like any other kind of surge though. Surges humans and singers uses aren't exactly the same, his inability of transport physical objects other than himself doesn't mean he was not performing transportation

  5. I think it's time to list all species of Fused we had  named so far

Shanay-im, also know as The Ones of Heavens, Surge Gravitation

Mavset-im, The Ones of Masks, Surge Illumination

Fannahn-im, The Ones of Alteration, Surge Transformation

Nex-im, The Ones of Husks, Surge Transportation?

We also know Fused who can use Abrasion, but they were not named yet

    Am I forgetting someone?

Also, what is the surge Fused don't have access to? So far I'm leaning towards Adhesion

Eh, she could simply be much more natural at or more practiced with Soulcasting than Transportation, the way Shallan hasn't done much Soulcasting. Or it's one of those Surges that come first for the order - the way that Skybreakers can fly as squires with Gravitation after the Second Ideal, but evidently don't "get" to use Division until the Third Ideal.

Ooh. A thought just occurred to me. It is odd, isn't it, that Shallan hasn't done any Soulcasting except under extreme duress or as a kind of depth effect to her Lightweaving (literally only twice - transmuting a goblet to blood when frantic to get the "fabrial" to work, and the ship to fire then to save herself from the Ghostbloods on The Wind's Pleasure)?

Is that another aspect of her "blockage" of OG Shallan? Like maybe the past version of her that she's suppressing, did a lot more with Soulcasting...

Soulcasting was most likely Jasnah first ability. I guess Jasnah already used transportation the same way as Venli is using now, to move some parts of her body/senses into the realm, but never fully. If that chapter was canonical, Ivory someway managed to get her into Shadesmar, but she herself couldn't do that yet

My theory is that she progressed in the months she was there, that's how she gained her ability to come back. The first time we saw her shardblade was when she was back and used it to try to intimidate Hoid, at this point she was surely on her third ideal, she can get her fourth in her Oathbringer war scene

  7. Raboniel concern about Dalinar is understandable, as he is a Bondsmith and his powers include the ability to trap spren including the Unmade

Her concern about Jasnah is yet to be understood, as much as Jasnah is by far the deadliest Soulcaster in the world (and most likely the only one Elsecaller in human army) I don't think soulcasting alone is what is troubling her.  She specified Jasnah oaths might be advanced enough to push through suppression fabrials. Is this in any way related to her order, or is just a assumption her oaths are indeed stronger (4th ideal)?

Jasnah almost certainly does and hides it like she did with her other abilities given the geometric shapes Adolin sees fading around her in the climax of OB. Shallan probably did and made herself forget like with the other three. She probably has 5 and forgot. Why not at this point?

The question about Jasnah is if she is so advanced in her words, why was her so unused to transportation (If I'm not mistaken, it was her first time fully elsecalling) in her removed chapter from Words of Radiance? Was that chapter non-canonical? Because it was most like a reaction of someone who was only in her second ideal, while se sworn third one right before come back to physical realm

That's said, she choosing to not kill Renarin really looks like a fourth (or at least third) ideal scene

People have gotten into the habit of thinking that Kaladin and Shallan level trauma is the benchmark for Radiancy. If it was, then pretty much no one would be Radiants.

They are the benchmark for the ultimate level of radiance, kinda

  10. Yes, finally some Venli :D

Neat chapter. Refreshing to see the Willshaper order born among the Singers and not humans

Maybe other spren are willing to give the singers a chance to fight against Odium? So far we didn't see any human Stoneward and the only Elsecaller is Jasnah, maybe those orders can give the singers a chance

  11. I just didn't saw it coming in any way. Storms Sanderson, this is the most fast paced first arc you ever wrote, I'm still processing everything that happened in just 10 chapters

Poor Kaladin I feel how shocked he is being demoted, Dalinar you are incredible, you are the only one who can be that heartless because you understand and cares for what it better for others

There is an actual chance that Kaladin is still in group 1, but he's the main character with few viewpoints (Navani, Venli and other being the members of group 1 with many viewpoints)

  12. I'm sorry but I can't help but find this Kaladin again boring and uninteresting. I like the character, but I never could really get into his arc and again it's just not happening. Maybe it's a problem on me, I  can't empathize enough with depressed people to get enough involved to a narrative that is mainly about that

Navani POV though was neat, anyone else here thinking Axies is writing her ? Aimians seems to work to preserve spren, that's why they keep shards and fabrials distant from humans

As for Shallan, good to know she won't create another persona and she's thinking on break up with Ghostbloods. So Ialai was discovering Ghostbloods were an alien organization with veins in other planets, how much Cosmere aware will Shallan become after this book? Curious to discover

Again no Venli this week :(

We do know that Jasnah has been interrogating Ash and (mayble) Taln, so it isn't exactly far fetched that they have discovered the true names of the Heralds, though it is a little unlikely that their expletives would change that quickly

Adolin calls Nale by his true name, rather than Nalan as vorinism teaches
