Why did Lift go to the Nightwatcher? [Edgedancer Spoilers]
Contessa replied to Lirin's hand's topic in Stormlight Archive
That WoB makes sense, because she does know that Surgebinders are able to suck in stormlight from spheres. Wyndle is always talking about how amazing it is that she can metabolize food into stormlight, and her knowledge of the more generic way of getting it is what leads her to realizes that Stump is a Surgebinder. -

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Contessa replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When your summary of Dr. Strange looks like this: -Some random Danish guy uses a lashing -The same random guy draws aons -BC gets an awakened cloak -Random guy from above gets eyeliner and starts preaching about Ruin -A giant mass of writhing, swirling Ruin shows up in the air (And I haven't even finished the movie yet) Edit: I finished it -BC makes a literal wheel of time -
As a Radiant, I'm thinking Dalinar will gain even more influence, and possibly be able to keep some people from standing with Amaram. I know he doesn't have the power to keep Amaram from becoming a Highprince, but he might be able to take some of his support.

@aemetha I was mostly triggered by the tone of your comment, rather than the actual scientific differences between genders (which I certainly agree are a reality).

When you can't get through another book, or an episode of any show, without finding a million Cosmere references. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Contessa replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you have recurring nightmares (or maybe visions from Honor) about filmmakers completely botching Cosmere movies. -
I don't have any real opinions about who will end up Highprince, but I do strongly believe that, should Amaram make a push for the Princedom, Dalinar would do his best to get in the way.

Okay, I'm feeling the need to step in. I thought our society was moving passed the idea that teenage girls swoon at every attractive guy they see. Being a girl myself, I think I have the authority to say that, while this may be true for some people, it can't be said for everyone. Shallan is not "infatuated" with Kaladin, nor has she fallen in love with everyone who has "dreamy eyes". In my personal opinion, Kabsal actually had feelings for Shallan (feel free to step in if there's a WoB or something of the sort to disprove this), more so than she did for him. And Adolin was just as quick to like Shallan as she was to like him, not to mention the fact that his eyes are more liable to wander than many teenage girls' I know.... Sorry for the rant, but this was bugging me a bit.
-
I'd be surprised if there hasn't been a lot of discussion about this already, but I was wondering when Shallan will find out that Kaladin killed her brother/what her reaction will be. My thinking is that she'll put it together pretty soon, but with Kaladin away I'm not sure how she'll react. I personally don't have much to say on the subject, but I'd love to hear some ideas, or if there are many related WoB's.

So I was re-reading WoR, and at a few points it mentions that the Rosharan year is five hundred days. Does this make the earth equivalent of everyone's ages older than the number of years it states in the book? For instance, if Kaladin is nineteen Rosharan years, would he be around twenty-six earth years? (I hope I did that math right.) Anyway, just something that crossed my mind. I can think of a few things that might explain it, but I was wondering what you guys thought. Sorry if this has been brought up before....

@Nathrangking well that doesn't make much sense either because the person asking the question clearly says Radiants.
-
Alright, I can agree with you here. I don't think his upbringing excuses his actions or intents, but I still feel pity for him, which I presume is where we deviate from one another. It's hard for me to read the scene when he's talking to Kaladin near the end of WoR without feeling a mixture of contempt and pity, the former being for reasons you wrote, and the latter for reasons I wrote.
-
Okay, now that I read it again, it doesn't make much sense. I guess what I was thinking was that they're still bonded with their Blades even though the Spren are dead, but then the glow fading when it did wouldn't make much sense. I guess I agree that he probably misunderstood the question.
-
Personally, I feel a lot of pity for Elhokar. Sure, he's a coward, sure, he's selfish, but he had a pretty terrible time of it growing up. He was born a prince, the son of two geniuses in their own right, the younger brother of another genius, and the cousin of a playboy dueling champion. Already, he's the odd one out, and yet he's the one who's going to be king some day. That's enough to cause some self confidence problems already, living among the Alethi nobility. Then, his father is assassinated completely unexpectedly, leaving him in control of a kingdom, sort of. (I agree with you, @aemetha, about tradition ruling more than the throne does. That said, it could be that a stronger willed king could attempt to make some changes). As king, Dalinar and Sadeas hold more sway than Elhokar, which doesn't help things, and so on and so forth. Obviously, this isn't new to anyone. I just think it's good to keep in mind. That said, Elhokar annoys the absolute heck out of me. I can't stand him. But I'm super excited to see where he goes.

On these points, I can agree wholeheartedly, especially after you mentioned the WoB (which I hadn't previously seen). As a side note, the way Brandon has set up Adolin's relationship issues is what makes the Kaladin/Shallan/Adolin love triangle so compelling, in my mind. Whenever I read Adolin telling Kaladin "I really want to keep this one," my resolve for Kaladin/Shallan shrinks considerably. But that's a tangent. Suffice to say, I agree.
-
I agree. Despite the fact that Adolin won't be in the very forefront, with the desolation coming, and him being wrapped up in everything, he will obviously have more struggles to come. I know this has already been discussed to some length in other threads, and I hate to beat a dead horse, but I simply don't see Adolin as the lesser loved child. He may have had more responsibilities, and Renarin may have been given more slack in general from Dalinar, but I don't think it was because he was better loved. I think it was because, as we see so often, Dalinar views Adolin as very, very, similar to himself. Therefore, I think that Dalinar was afraid that his elder son would become a Blackthorn if he was too lenient. In my opinion, Adolin is a much better man than his father, especially during his Blackthorn days, and there isn't any chance of Adolin taking that route. But, I believe that's what Dalinar feared, and I think that fear will be triggered when Dalinar learns of what Adolin did at the end of WoR.
-
Yeah, if he awakened his Blade he would be an Edgedancer. The Dustbringer theory would take place if Adolin bonded with a spren without awakening his Blade.
-
So does this mean that the Stormfather could stop cycling the Stormlight through the system, if he wanted? Not that it would be at all beneficial to him, but he has been known to think in a rather sideways manner. If he ever felt that he needed to punish people somehow, could he do it by taking away the Stormlight? That said, it would pretty much assure the victory of Odium, since the Radiants would no longer be able to use Surgebinding...

There's a page in Cosmere Q&A that basically delves into the same question as this. The discussion branches in different directions than it does here, but it's definitely worth a look.

The gemstones are there to bond with the Blades, not necessarily to summon them. If you are already bonded with the Blade, then technically there would be no need for a gemstone. I think the bonds breaking and the oaths breaking happened in one conscious decision when they drove their blades into the ground and walked away. That said, there was a lot of lead up, in my opinion, to the oaths breaking.

I agree with @maxal, but I do think it will be interesting to see how Adolin deals with being the only non-Radiant in his friend-group, so to speak, before (probably) awakening his Blade (or perhaps bonding with a spren in the more generic fashion). I love Adolin's character, and in that respect a agree with a lot of what @maxal has to say. I think he'll be more in the spotlight in Oathbringer, because of his actions at the end of WoR, and because of his potential awakening of his Blade. But as far as Radiants go, at least the ones we have seen, I think we can say Adolin has suffered the least (except maybe his brother). Therefore, I believe there are many more trials to come for him, and, while I don't think he will end up being a Dustbringer, or turning to Odium, I do think he will struggle with having all the people around him suddenly being more OP that him, an I think it will put a strain on his character that will be interesting to see.

@Serce Forts thanks for sharing your story. Like you, I'm a Lightweaver, but I haven't managed to get very far with sound waves. Instead, I've focused mainly on making my Lightwoven figures' movements seem entirely natural, and pairing my Lightweaving with my Soulcasting to greater extents. I hope we may have the chance to learn from each other in the future! Tesh is the leader of the Surgefinders, as you most likely know, so I'll leave it to her to invite you to the chats. Good luck, hope to see you in the RP soon. Your friend, and fellow Lightweaver, Contessa.
