  1. The way she is it won't. This was more I needed to vent and the person I usually vent to wasn't available and I remembered this thread.
  2. Sounds interesting and different. Makes me think of rhythm games where the music is practically magic, but on a grander scale.
  3. She does this all the time though. She'll say one thing but when doing it like she asked it's wrong so she'll do it herself, have it in the exact same way you had it and is now satisfied. She just has that attitude that she doesn't trust anyone to do anything and that she's the only genius in the room. And no there isn't because we are the textbook people and it's just us. There are people higher than her, but they don't exactly know anything about the textbook field despite being in charge of it.
  4. Must be pretty interesting if you get a book that doesn't fit on the shelf. That's why in my pictures AMOL isn't with the rest of WOT, that shelf is smaller so I put it with my random hardcovers. I'm starting to get into organizing my shelves, not by genre, but more by series and if they are similar in feel. Some I'm putting by author if I have a bunch from them, like Sanderson where I'm designating a shelf just for him.
  5. My mom is a source of a lot of problems for me. She made me work with her almost 10 years ago. She made me come into work today and a few minutes ago we're sorting out a kit, we work at a school, and her instructions are screwy. She first tells me to highlight what isn't there. I go to the next page and she asked if I highlighted everything that was there. I told her what she told me before. She tells me no and that I'm supposed to be highlighting what's there. I go back and start highlighting the first two items and she screams at me "what are you doing!!!" because I highlighted the title like she said. Can anyone figure out from that if she wanted me to highlight what was there or not?
  6. Now that's crazy! Granted I've read The Dark Tower, but even I knew about Flagg before that one. That woman needs to catch up pronto!
  7. Mistborn 1 (not finished but this funny thought came to mind)
  8. Someone really needs to clean up Coppermind if that's the case.
  9. I meant it was interesting because you have A Dance of Dragons at the top but the others towards the bottom. Same with other series being split up. Didn't even notice the height thing. I prefer the US covers for Brandon as well. They just look more like illustrations and paintings, or just plain cool!, while the U.K. ones are really abstract and two tone which just doesn't click for me. Heck I like the US version of covers more but there are exceptions like the UK cover for The Book of Dust 1 and the U.K. covers for Discworld. How embarrassing to have a set of books for that long and not realize they weren't yours. XD I liked WOT and have it all in paperback, except for AMOL since I got that just after release in hardcover. I prefer hardcover or the medium to large paperbacks since the smaller one feels too small to read and is a pain to read when you're towards the beginning or very end because those ends are 'stiffer' or whatever the term is.
  10. Oh, one I would recommend if you want fantasy but not anything epic would be Mystic by Jason Denzel. It's a somewhat simple story about 4 young people training to become magic users, Pom being the only commoner since only nobility gets picked, with only one being picked. The ending will surprise you on who wins in the end.
  11. You know you're a Sanderfan when you're interested perks up when you hear about the hidden epic known as the Cosmere. That's what really got me into wanting to read Sanderson since I like long series.
  12. Not the dropbears!!! Learned about those after watching a video where someone made a speculation on a Australia based Pokémon region and mentioned a region version for Komala based off of this. I think the snakes in the toilets scare me more.
  13. This is what Coppermind links to on the subject of the Mistborn Hoid book.
  14. @Leiasqz that's an interesting way to sort your books. Do you prefer the U.K. or US version of the covers you have both versions of? I like that you have the U.K. version of Discworld. I like the simple look done here, but I hate how they decide to translate from British to US English so the first book here is Color of Magic instead of the actual title of Colour of Magic. Also what books are in the back on the third shelf? I see Eye of the World and Dragon Reborn.
  15. Except that Secret History follows Kelsier post book 1, not Hoid. Brandon's mentioned doing a story about Hoid in Mistborn ala Back to the Future 2 style.
  16. And I used it to see if I liked Butcher's style to see if I wanted to try Dresden. I know I will now Hoping to get the other 5 books in the future along with Dresden and Aeronauts Windlass.
  17. I know someone from Denmark who's not very religious because she chose not to be religious but that mainly stems from her parents being a little strict on gender roles since they're Kurdish and a little old school. Because of those issues she has with her parents she drew away from a lot of that stuff. I've been to the Orlando area and my mom has cousins in Lake Placid so that's the area I know. Have stopped in Tallahassee and other towns up north to refuel and eat. Geographical stereotypes exist for a reason. Is that because the wildlife takes care of the preachy ones? JK I know that the majority of the world doesn't make a point of showing your religion on your sleeve except where the laws are governed by the religious texts, like the middle eastern nations I believe, but they don't seem to go around trying to force you to believe what they do, just respect it. Australia just sounds like an awesome place, especially when watching what Geography Now! said about it.
  18. I will never understand how anyone can think 50 Shades of Smut and Abuse is romantic. I've only seen the review of it from TheDom and the theory from MatPat and those were enough to get me the picture. Oh and the Cinemasins video as well. The problem with John Carter is that the money put into it was way too much. In order to make any profit it would've needed to be bigger than Titanic, Lion King and Frozen combined! And outside of the fans of the books no one knows what the story is.
  19. Are there any franchises or stand alones that have surprised you by being popular or any you thought was popular, or at least good, and were surprised wasn't? Fast and the Furious is one in surprised is still around. I mean every single movie is practically the same! I'm going to Universal Hollywood at Christmas and I'm not looking forward to the end of the Studio Tour because of this series. I'm surprised Transformers made it past one movie. It wasn't even a popcorn flick for me and is nothing but explosions. I was surprised when I learned Rise of the Guardians wasn't considered a success. That movie was great, had fantastic characters and has more staying power than Boss Baby does. Power Rangers (2017) is one I'm not as surprised isn't that popular because I was hesitant to see it before it came out and only went because I had $6 tickets from a couple Power Rangers DVD sets I bought. I loved the film and hoped it would do better. With how popular the Universal Monsters are I'm surprised the Dark Universe isn't blowing people away. The only thing that was bad about The Mummy was Tom Cruise himself, even more so after hearing about the BTS stuff with him trying to write out the Mummy herself! I came to see a Mummy, not Ethan Hunt! I'm hoping Bride of Frankenstein does much better.
  20. Look at Ammanas' photos, there's one there!
  21. Part of that whole culture drew me closer to the Eastern faiths like Shinto, Buddhism and Hindu. I would say anywhere in the south (if you're not from the States, I hate calling it America since to me that means the continent, that means Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky and South Carolina and everything south of them minus Florida for some odd reason) you'll get the religious culture, but Texans mostly are very vocal about it. I've been to other southern states and the faith is prominent but not done in the threatening way the people in Texas go about it. Heck the people here talk about how good Christians they are. If the way they act is good, I don't want to go to their heaven.
  22. One of my pet peeves is when something that most people don't really have is needed for something places want you to use. The Walmart in my town is installing a scan & go but that requires having their app first. You know what they removed to install this? The books!!!
  23. May the Inquisitors not come for you. May Persuasion protect you. May Lady Mistborn watch over you. May Hoid play a joke on you.
  24. I like it as well, it's more a joke how people keep making origin stories to old characters when there already is an origin available.
  25. Peter and the Starcatchers
