Random Stuff X: Something Weird
Draginon replied to marsoupial's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I've watched the Doctor Who DVDs with the commentaries! Would Brandon even have time for a movie commentary when he doesn't have time for annotations anymore? -
He's just channeling his inner Mistborn

That's okay @ShadowLord_Lith

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Draginon replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you dedicate a whole shelf to just Sanderson books, including future titles. -
Which form of book do you prefer? Me I prefer a real physical book because I like feeling it in my hands, I can easily flip back to look at the map to get my bearings and then there's the unmistakable smell of a new book. I don't do ebook because I lose focus more easily and start skipping things or read the same sentence over and over. When I got the free sample of The Eye of the World to read the additional Egwene prologue I had to force myself to read it because of these problems and reading isn't fun if I have to force myself to do it.

Any reason you quoted me?

I haven't seen all of them either. Still need to see Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Only Yesterday and When Marnie Was There. Any film you didn't like that much? For me it was Porco Rosso. It just felt dull and slow along with uninteresting characters. Do you feel like we're taking over this thread?

Probably not that different for him since he can't move or do anything except think until he's worn so when he is worn the sensations of having a body are a little overwhelming. Heck when he goes for the dog, because it's a starving stray he can't handle the hunger and immediately starts gorging himself to get rid of that pain. They have great films, though it's sad that when Miyazaki retired a couple years back they decided to go on a hiatus. But apparently production is back on because he's apparently coming back out of retirement, he tried retiring before but postponed to make a couple more, to do a new film. But it's sad how Miyazaki and his son's relationship is pretty strained, especially after Earthsea since Miyazaki had wanted to direct it since the 80's but Suzuki wanted his son to direct it while Le Guin was under the impression that the son would direct with the father supervising. Heck Miyazaki publicly opposed his son directing, mostly because his son had no experience directing a movie. How did he expect his son to get the experience anyway?

Random Stuff X: Something Weird

look at this random video!!! -
I was inspired by a picture I had seen of an anthro dog wearing a hoodie around the time I thought of the story and it fit with the story so I threw it in. It's a misnomer to call him a magic hoodie since he's a living person stuck in the form of one and his thing isn't quite magical so much as his dimension having different rules mixing with ours in weird ways, a formless being having to take a form just to live for example. Yes, Ghibli is Japanese and simply the best studio out there. Even their tokusatsu is fun to watch.
-
That's the thing with the hoodie, his name is Alaska which was chosen because in his dimension they don't have names but images that describe them and his brings to mind Alaska, when you put him on you're no longer in control and are practically dead and the only way to get out of that alive is if he willingly lets himself off, so if he's forcibly taken off the person wearing him dies. Also it's not correct to call him evil. Just because he was an enemy of a past group doesn't mean he was a horrible person. He was so desperate to get back to his own dimension that he was putting our world in danger. By the time of the actual story he's given up any ideas of going home, but when he gets released he attaches himself to one of the monks from the complex and the head monk assumes the worst. He mostly does this just to explain himself and clear the air over his past. He willingly takes himself off and one of the Warriors finds a stray dog for him to possess (he makes the dog more anthro like and able to eat any human without getting sick and other humanizing things), since he wouldn't be hurting anyone. He would probably leave them once building up his strength but stays because he hooks up with one of the Warriors. I'm not sure how long into the story it would be before he would appear, but it's definitely sometime after the whole group is brought in but definitely before they go for their first battle against the villain, which will end with one of them being killed to protect the others since this is supposed to be serious to show that protecting the world doesn't make you invincible and that people die doing so. Heck my first story, about a demon, was inspired by Devilman so I get good ideas from Japan.

oathbringer Sample Chapters Galore for Oathbringer
Draginon replied to CaptainRyan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I know there will be interludes, it was more a question of how many, which ccstat answered already. 122 chapters?! 139 if you count the interludes, prologue, epilogue and ketek! I think this has to be the longest book, chapter wise, I've ever seen! Edit: Just did the math. Oathbringer is 33 chapters longer than WOR! That's a whole Part bigger! Either these Parts are long or it's got six Parts this time. -

Nope. I for some reason remembered that Lesbos people were called Lesbians and thought that was funny if you were a guy or a straight woman. -

Got a random joke I thought of last night: How can one be both a Lesbian and straight at the same time? -
XD Isn't that true for anything?

It would be so weird to have a short story collection but the first time they're printed is in the collection book and not an anthology or a magazine. There are some stories that work better using Earth rather than a new world but can still be hard when you need to research stuff, like all the cultures for my Warriors story since there's a dozen main characters there. Even on that one I need to make stuff up since the threats tend to be interdimensional. Heck one of the past enemies becomes an ally for the new group after being accidentally released from his prison and in his dimension people have no physical shape so when he came to earth he took the form of the nearest thing he find just to survive. That form was a hoodie. When people wear him he more or less possesses them and can alter their body if he wishes. It might be a while before I even get to the Punk Duo since I don't even have a concept for the Steampunk one. The Cyberpunk one was inspired by some anime/manga I love named .Hack//Sign, Sword Art Online and 1/2 Prince.

Like Arcanum Unbounded? Yeah, it's like I go back and forth whether my ideas are more for the teen end or adult end of the spectrum. Well I have stories that are alternate Earths so it's finding that right balance between potty mouth and saint. My epic fantasy trilogy has a very interesting and risqué sounding cussing system. It all depends on the Goddess' womb and how pure it is, like 'by the Goddess' immaculate womb!' and 'by the Goddess' defiled womb!' so the dirtier it gets the worse it is. It's not meant to be a sexual thing but more on respect for Her since She is the mother of all races. That sounds interesting. I've wanted to write a Steampunk story and Cyberpunk story, I want to call it my Punk Duo, but I don't know what type of story. I've contemplated doing a murder mystery for the Steampunk one and a who am I story for the Cyberpunk since the player would wake up in the game with no memory of who they are, not even knowing their real gender.

I'm not sure whether to call it strange but The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is an interesting story. It's available for free from the University of Virgina on their website. It's pretty different from the movie so it's worth a read.

That one tweet with the spongebob XD Well he does need time to be with his family before going on tour for AG 1.

Especially with how loose the genre is nowadays with everyone combining it with fantasy. To me it has to involve spaceships, aliens, advanced technology, robots, cyborgs and augmentations, anything else makes it less sci-fi for me. They are the worst! How can anyone expect someone to come up with a good story under 8,000 words or whatever!? You know I can never figure out what age groups I want my stories to be made for, besides that pirate story, because I don't settle for any age and just do what works for the story I'm telling. Like I'm not afraid of having LGBT characters (I just treat it like I do in real life which is "they're LGBT, so what? That's not all they are" since it doesn't matter to me what someone's preference is since it's just as major a characteristic as being straight is), killing characters off or raise issues that most would deem inappropriate for a younger audience. I even have appropriate cussing because I don't want characters who would make sailors blush, but if they're a nasty piece of work there shouldn't be any reason for them not to cuss up a storm, because of how most writers do it to the point of "I get it, this book's for grown ups, can you just lay off the language for a page or two?"
