  1. So I love thinking about what I would do if I had the powers from the Cosmere and its all well and good imagining being a majestic Windrunner streaking through the skies saving lives but in normal life that's incredibly unlikely (yeah, I get the irony that having powers at all is unlikely but that's another issue). So my question is if you could have any Cosmere powers in everyday life what would you have and how would you use it? My personal choice is being a full Feruchemist and here are some of the ideas I came up with - Running for the bus, use some steel speed you stored while sitting at your desk all day - Pizzas getting cold, use some brass to warm up your hand and the pizza - Finding it difficult to fall asleep as neighbours are too loud, store some hearing in a tin mind and the neighbour's noise fades away as you go deaf - Someone farts on the train, tap some breath so you don't have to smell it - Need to pull an all-nighter, tap wakefulness that you stored on your last day off - That jar lid just too tight, use some strength stored while you were laying on the sofa watching tv - Want to binge some junk food store all the excess energy in a Bendalloy mind and eat to your heart's content. The options really are endless, I really wish I could be a Feruchemist but if I can't be one imagining my powers is the next best thing
  2. @Weltall Thanks so much for your explanation that really cleared up my understanding
  3. I've spent the last few days on a Brandon theory binge, digesting as many fan theories, plot analyses and wild speculations as possible. After reading up someone's question on Hemalugy (Is Hemalugy the only end-negative magic system or are there more?) I realised that there is another use of magic which needs you to give more than you get, the Honorblades! From what we've seen the Blades work exactly like a Sprenblade would bestowing Surgebinding powers with 2 notable exceptions one, no Spren (and by extension no Shardplate) and also that a lot more Stormlight is required to power the same effects. This certainly sounds end-negative to me but I may be misunderstanding the meaning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  4. @TheVillageIdiot Thanks, I love talking about Mistborn games wherever possible and puzzle element was a favourite idea because one of my favourite parts of Brandon's books they are puzzley and they have enough foreshadowing to let you realise the big reveals before the book tells you about them like the end of Mistborn 3 (which I got about 1 chapter before it happened and made me feel unbelievably smart even though it probably wasn't the most well-hidden mystery and I'm probably just as simple as ever.)
  5. I talked a bit about it above but I do get what you mean especially with emotional Allomancy but I thought that when selecting emotional Allomancy you can choose whether it be wide ranging or single target and then choose a specific emotion to play with much like dialogue options in fallout where you play on a specific emotion to get a reaction, for example, while in stealth you use an AOE blast of Zinc to increase fear in the surrounding guards then when you come out to confront the guards they are more likely to flee or in conversation if you want to gain information you increase trust in the target and then it makes them more likely to talk. As for steel and iron, I'm still working on that but I've considered Iron working like a grapple e.g. Just Cause The key thing to remember is that like the novels its based on this Game idea is a fantasy so limits are off for size and complexity so each different power can be as complex as I like without any need to worry about streamlining the game because 'it doesn't exist' he whispered ominously
  6. I've always loved the idea of Cosmere games because Brandon makes such clear-cut magic systems they could be so easily applied to games. I agree with all your game ideas especially reckoners, I would play that game to death. I'm seriously intrigued by your suggestion of a Stormlight RTS because I never even considered it but now you say it it sounds so perfect for the setting. Mistborn would work extremely well as a game as it has such defined rules and consistent rules for its magic unlike something like the Reckoners which has a lot more unpredictability to it with such varying powers for Epics A friend and I once had a similar conversation to the one you and your brother-in-law had about a Mistborn game but we came up with the idea of a Action / Mystery Game set in Mistborn Era 2 where you could choose your abilities so that you could be a misting, ferring, twinborn or have no powers at all. We thought it would play best as a dishonoured style game, couldn't decide on 1st or 3rd person but it would play like dishonoured in that you'd have multiple ways to complete a mission but some would require certain powers e.g. you can swim into the sewers but it would require you to be a Gasper because you need a certain amount of oxygen to get in, or you could choose the guns blazing approach with feruchemical gold like Wayne (or I guess not because of the whole no guns thing, so duelling canes blazing?). We had some pretty cool idea going too e.g. you have Tin lookouts on the roof but using Nicrosil you could stun them by forcefully overloading their senses allowing you to take them down. As a mystery game, I thought it'd be cool if you collect information throughout your missions and at the end of each mission you'd be given snippets of information based on what your character remembers but then if you had chosen to be an archivist you could remember information perfectly better allowing you to piece together the next steps to take. Also for some random fun, we thought adding the ability to have no powers at all or useless power like Allomantic Aluminium would be a fun hardcore mode where you had to beat opponents of off skill with guns and duelling canes alone. The major roadblocks we met while brainstorming were that we both were complete novices when it comes to coding and game design as were both 17 at the time and that we don't know enough about what some powers do, how compounding of some of the metallic arts work e.g. Copper or Chromium. I'm sure we will revisit this concept in future when we know more about the metallic arts and have a bit more practical experience. I would love to make this game even as just a fan work because honestly, I'd love to play it.
  7. Both are great, I went to Mistborn next and really enjoyed it. Wayne is the best character in anything ever.
  8. Welcome, I hope you enjoy the Shard. Just a warning the Shard is best enjoyed if you have read all the works of the Cosmere, that way you won't get spoiled. That being said you can still enjoy it without having finished everything. Anyway, have fun on the Shard and the rest of the Sanderson books. Have a cookie. P.S. What series are you going onto next?
  9. Yeah, my first year uni exams are coming up in May/June time and I just need 40% to pass and with all the new shows I have to devour I need to resign myself to the face that 40% will be lucky
  10. I still can't decide yet whether or not I should continue with Violet Evergarden. Yes, it is beautiful but the plot seems a little boring and there are other shows that are gorgeous and have a little bit more to them. Loved Clannad, scratched that romance itch quite nicely by have a romance pass the point of them realising their feelings. Unfortunately, now I'm just waiting for the spring season of sequels like My Hero Academia, Food Wars, Tokyo Ghoul :Re and then Attack on Titan in the Summer
  11. @Thanatos Are you referring to simply gold the colour or also the metal because that brings up some very interesting possibilities for Mistborn in future if Odium escapes Roshar at the end of the Stormlight Archives rather than being splintered or changing Vessels such as with Ruin and Preservation
  12. However the whole book is 55 hours so 6.5 is a surprisingly short amount honestly a very small amount only about 12%
  13. So I have 6h 49m left on the Audiobook for Oathbringer and if this is proven wrong in the next few hours feel free to call me a moron and send me on my way but I've noticed that throughout the whole book any Fused which uses a surge has only ever been shown to use one not have 2 like the Knights Radiant. All the flying Fused have only ever been shown to use Gravitation and not Division or Adhesion. And then the Fused thief trying to steal the King's drop from the Thaylen City vaults only use Illumination. So do you think that Voidbinding only allows for them to perform one surge? or that they haven't been using the other surge that they have been given.
  14. Hello, as a fellow UK reader, WELCOME Have a cookie, ignore the voices and Enjoy
  15. Ah, that makes sense. So I assume that, excluding AonDor which is stated to be area specific most investitures won’t be area specific
  16. So this isn't a super important question but I was curious so thought I'd ask. Why are some investitures only effective certain areas and some can work at vast distances. This especially relates to Scadrial where we've seen Allomancy and Feruchemy work off-world (by Hoid), however, I think we can assume that Hemalurgy cannot work off-world as I find it impossible to assume that no one in millennia of searching wouldn't have noticed that metals steal powers. Anyway, I was wondering if this has been brought up or if anyone has any theories as to why this occurs.
  17. Brandon has stated that there is a natural limit to Feruchemical tapping, e.g. you can't become black hole heavy for a fraction of a second. This would likely extend to Atium whereby you can't reduce your age to a point before you were born There would likely be something stopping you from popping back into a sperm and an egg. Definitely an interesting thought though.
  18. I don't know what he called it but post-Catecandre it was known as Silverism. https://coppermind.net/wiki/Sliverism
  19. Preface: This question is quite nerdy and I don’t expect anyone to think this is interesting but be. So I’ve been thinking about how the Mistborn Modern Era would work, so as the 2nd era has shown mistborn is on track to follow earth like technology (e.g. guns, cars, etc.) so it’s quite clear that computers are going to become a part of life on scadrial at some point. My question is how would a timebubble (of any sort) effect the action of a computer. Specially how would a timebubble effect a fibre optic connection, from my understanding fibre optics work by flashing a light on and off in different pulses which corespond to 1s and 0s in binary if you have a timebubble around that connection could you scramble that data by compressing the intervals with timebubbles. If anyone smarter than me can shed some light on this that’s be great. Thank you for reading my super nerdy question
  20. So I'm halfway through Oathbringer and I'm loving it. But one of my favourite parts of catching up the Cosmere novels is that with each new series there was a new magic system. So what I'm asking is has Brandon said anything about a new Cosmere book on a different shard world or have people noticed any patterns for when he brought out other new Cosmere books. Really I just need my fix of new magic systems.
  21. I'd do FMAB first because the story is far more logical and easy to follow, the original gets quite erratic and mad as it progresses and the ending is very hard to follow
  22. Physically speaking I'd have to go with the Surgebinder purely because: - Adhesion can reduce the Fullborn's mobility - Gravitation could keep you away from the Fullborn through flight or (if you can catch them) send them flying away, and all the iron pulling in the world won't stop a triple or quadruple lashing of gravity. - We don't yet know how division works but I would believe you could cause anything to fracture or break therefore just by touching a person you could rip off limbs or if it doesn't work on people at least destroy any weapons they have. - Any projectile (coin or bullet) would slide off you from you making yourself frictionless - Considerable healing through progression and Stormlight - Decoys and illusions through illumination - Any item you could possibly need through transformation - Not quite sure how useful transportation would be, maybe evasion by entering Shadesmar? - Cohesion and Tension can let you deform and change the Fullborn's clothes e.g. making their clothes stiff so that they can't move - Finally, you have the innate Surgebinder abilities of Spren (Any weapon, instantly) and increased physical abilities (Strength, speed, healing, etc) Unfortunately, the Fullborn would be completely outmatched, it may be a slightly fairer fight if it were a compounding Mistborn/Feruchemist who can compound luck and healing, but then again we don't know how the Surge interactions Brandon has hinted at would come into play. Therefore with what we currently know now, a Composite Surgebinder has far more versatility and power when it comes to battle that a Full Mistborn.
  23. The Lightbringer series sounds like the sort of thing you're looking for. It has good character driven story, a very intelligent magic system, interesting fantasy world and plenty of swearing (both real and in world based) There are 4 books out so far with a 5th on the way and I personally love the audiobooks they're very well read.
  24. Q1) When you burn a Lerasium + Metal Alloy it creates a misting. Why not just purify the bead to pure Lerasium and make a full Mistborn? Q2) Does the size of the Lerasium bead denote how strong they will be e.g. 5g Bead creates a Mistborn and 10g Bead creates a Mistborn twice as powerful? Q3) If you are a misting and burn a Lerasium + Metal Alloy do you gain a second power or can you not burn the metal? If anyone has any answers or theories or even just wild speculation it would be much appreciated, this has been bugging me for a while.
  25. Allomancy is of Preservation Hermalugy is of Ruin And Feruchemy is a mix created from the 2 shards interacting, not just Ruin
