Am I the only one angry at Kaladin? I pity him simply because Brandon seems to determined to put as much crap as possible on him. But here he learns the consequences of inaction. Not just failing to save Elhokar, Kholinar, Beard, Soh etc. but his inaction regarding his morals. He knew for a very long time (since joining the freed parshmen group) that he would be unable to face them in battle. Yet he chooses to ignore the problem. The results are obviously disastrous. Also, consider how he placed himself in a position he knew he couldn't follow up. He doesn't make his inner turmoil clear, which results in Elhokar and Dalinar both depending on him to carry out the mission. Even though he was compromised regarding his dedication to their cause. In general, I think the group chosen for the mission was very bad. Both Shallan and Kaladin were clearly unequipped to deal with the city and the invasion. We saw this not only in Kaladins complete mental breakdown but also in Shallan's time wasting and alternate personalities exposing her to The Heart of the Revel. Someone like Jasnah would have been the far better choice, as she would have been able to deal with the issue in a controlled manner. A large portion of the blame should be placed on Dalinar too. He's supposed to know his soldiers and how to deploy them, yet he doesn't acknowledge Kaladins concerns and has no idea what Shallan is going through.

Skyward Reading, Oathbringer High Resolution Art
TheLordRuler commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
Smh why you do vertical recording lmao. That art looks really good though. Could also be useful when trying to identify Heralds if accurate. -
I'm having a hard time finding Oathbringer in Aus stores actually. Either sold out or beyond what I find is an acceptable price. Doesn't help that all local bookstores have shut down and the nearest one is a 30 min drive away. If you really want to Edgedancer, I would recommend borrowing AU from a library. I've seen it available at nearly all libraries I visit in Sydney. Shouldn't be too hard to find, and you can always ask your library to purchase it if it is not available. Also, @Wind Runner is correct in saying that it is not essential. Its a nice book, and I assume it will help when understanding Azir, Nale and Lift, but nothing critical occurs.

Is Brandon ever going to come to Australia?
TheLordRuler replied to Lightwalker's topic in Events and Signings
He probably will be back to Aus. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go meet him at Supernova, on account of exams and trial period of HSC. -

#CleganeBowl What is hype, may never die -
See, that's where you're making a mistake. We don't KNOW what a full fledged Radiant or Herald is capable. To say that they can beat Mistborns, some of the most powerful individuals literally worth armies, easily is a statement you just cannot make. Thats the reason why Rosharian figures have gotten so little votes, we just don't know what they can do. Also, imagine a world with armies of Mistborn-strength individuals. Thats doesn't seem like Roshar to me. Having thousands upon thousands of such powerful people seems like a disaster, oaths or no oaths. I don't think its likely a Radiant is more powerful than a Mistborn. But who knows?

This is what makes me sad about The Lord Rulers death haha. We never actually got to see what he was capable of. It's also what makes me eager to see Kelsier (or maybe Spook?) again, just to see to what level he has progressed to, and his capabilities, given 5 centuries of development and discovery. Another idea might be Steel Compounding to speeds of Mach 5 or so (about 1600m/s), at which point air resistance should cause burning up as temperatures would exceed 300C (Not sure on this though, could be higher or less). At this point, you would be an indestructible train which burns or blows out anything in its path. Tapping iron would help (more mass means more inertia, and will result in less KE loss from collisions), and you would need to be compounding Allomantic Pewter (I think Allomancy can also be compounded?) and Feruchemical Gold to be able to withstand the heat and the collisions. I imagine something like this would be useful for mass destruction, such as destroying cities.

Top 10 theories going into Oathbringer
TheLordRuler replied to bdoble97's topic in Stormlight Archive
Elhokar is the only reason why Alethkar remained united in the first place (as Gavilar's heir). Remeber, Taravangian WANTED Dalinar to assume control, and he only sent Szeth after him when it became clear he wouldn't. The other Highprinces are unlikely to follow Dalinar's lead unless he forces them to (which he is in a position to do since he secured Urithiru). Also, consider the Vorin Church, which has labelled the KRs as traitors. They are unlikely to cooperate with Dalinar, who has refounded the KRs. And since they control most of the Alethkars Soulcasters, this will cause major problems. It's much more likely that Elhokar remains king, and Dalinar rules from behind him, which is how they have operated for the most part in the past. I don't see Elhokar becoming a KR anyway, he just doesn't seem to have any qualities which would make a Spren bond him. They might have investigated him due to his powerful position and association with other KR or proto-surgebinders (Dalinar, Gavilar and Jasnah), but they might have rejected him as a candidate. Besides, I don't want all our characters becoming KRs. Thats just too one sided for me. -
Top 10 theories going into Oathbringer
TheLordRuler replied to bdoble97's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it comes down to whether the Suit acts as a whole or not. I think it does because even if you are powering a leg piece with your own Stormlight, having it disconnected should compromise its integrity in some way. It isn't the leg piece which is carrying its own weight after all. Another thing to consider is that KR might have powered the Plate's themselves, or at least were capable of doing so if their gems ran out. Thus, the only way the Plate would become completely destroyed is if they had no more Stormlight. Thinking this over, I realise that we really don't know much about Shard Plate (or Armour) at all. So I guess it's best we just leave it at this. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this with me. -
Top 10 theories going into Oathbringer
TheLordRuler replied to bdoble97's topic in Stormlight Archive
Why not though? We know from the Adolin and Dalinar viewpoints that ShardPlate can be very cumbersome and heavy. Losing the chest piece completely disables the Plate. Radiants do seem to have the ability to either call Plate, like Blades, or dissipate and reform very quickly (the KR in Dalinar's vision), but this still doesn't change the restrictions Plate can have. Having Shard Chainmail would offer much more versatility as it is significantly lighter and you won't be disabled if any of the links break. Different armour for different uses. Maybe the reason why it didn't exist is that Roshar wasn't technologically able to produce it back then. Weren't Radiants over 4000 years back from the current events? We only developed chainmail little over 2000 years ago. It's possible they just didn't know what it is. Or maybe all the armour was transformed into Plate, similar to how all Spren were made into Blades. -

I think it would have to be metallic. Maybe a Shard chainmail. If it can be controlled to such extent. They do have chainmail in Alethkar/Roshhar right? -

TheLordRuler replied to bdoble97's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, she might be able to craft some sort of stealth plate. Since Radiants create the Plate, why can't they shape it into the form they want? I can see her wearing something lightweight, and which only covers the bare minimum and is designed to be flexible for ease of use. -
Shardic Intent and the Vessel's Personality
TheLordRuler replied to The One Who Connects's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hmm, I'm still not sure I agree, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. I'll think it over a bit though. Of course, an official reveal of the other Shard's intents would help immensely with coming to a final conclusion -
Shardic Intent and the Vessel's Personality
TheLordRuler replied to The One Who Connects's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes, but I don't think either morality or judgement falls under Honour. Which, I believe, you included in your definition. Tbh I feel like you just repeated my own reply back to me, unless I missed something? -
Shardic Intent and the Vessel's Personality
TheLordRuler replied to The One Who Connects's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I feel like you definitions of Honour lend themselves more to Justice, and while these two often intersect, especially in our world, they are different things.I actually expect a Justice Shard out there somewhere, as Divine Justice does seem like a godly trait. Honour, for me, is more about upholding your word and keeping contracts. We can say that Szeths actions were Honourable while bound by his oathstone, but he was not engaging in any form of Justice. You can be honourable and be astoundingly immoral at the same time. -
[OB] on gavilar confirmed son of honor
TheLordRuler replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
Great that you took the time to clarify yourself. What you say does make sense, and I understand why you would believe that. It is a callous decision by Dalinar, but he is a war leader, and by the very own principle you stated before (WWI battles where soldiers were spent aimlessly), his only option at that point would have been to minimise his losses. Jumping in as an old man with no Shards at all; yes he is still a great warrior by human standards, but against Shards he would have been more or less useless. I can't remember this clearly, but if he believed Adolin could surrender and get out of there alive (with no Shards), then he may have thought Adolin had a safe exit (which was not true with Renarin hostage). Overall, I agree with you that his actions may seem damning if we look at it from an emotional standpoint. After all, he was willing to sit and watch his son risk his body and life and probably could have done more in that situation (at significant risk to his own life). But having these traits (rational thinking, calmness) is what qualifies him for leadership. I have no doubt that The Blackthorn would have jumped in to save his son, and that in his prime, they might have even come away victorious. However, the new Dalinar isn't The Blackthorn. The Blackthorn was a warrior who longed for a challenge. New Dalinar is a vastly different person, with heavy responsibilities. I apologise if my posts are incoherent in any way. It's very late at night for me, and I'm quite tired. -
Hi, I was just wondering how the power of Fullborns would scale with regards to Heralds. In particular, how would Kelsier or Spook (who are similarly powerful) match up against a Herald? Assume that both Fullborns have access to all 16 Metals (in unlimited quantities), but no God Metals, and that Herald has access to unlimited Stormlight and is one with offensive capabilities. Furthermore, how would The Lord Ruler have matched up against a Herald? All 10 Heralds? Thanks

[OB] on gavilar confirmed son of honor
TheLordRuler replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm similarly inclined to @king of nowhere train of thoughts. We cannot take our morals and judge a man who probably has a completely different set of morals. There is no universal constant in regards to a set of morals, they fluctuate in humanities own history, how can we expect them not to differ in a completely different (if fictional) universe? That's not fair though. You can't blame any part of this on him at all, not even his inability to act. He had a plan. This plan fits in with his desire to unite Alethkar, and create a more honourable society. Adolin committed to this plan because he believed in his father and because he wanted to bring Sadeas down. When it all goes wrong, due to Adolin's own carelessness, you want to blame Dalinar? Adolin made his own decision. He knew what he was getting himself into, knew the risks. Saying that Dalinar was willing to discard Adolin for some Shards means you consider Adolin's own decisions null and deny him his own responsibility. Dalinar is one of the few rulers in the area who actually has some sort of higher purpose, beyond material struggle. He has the responsibility of an entire nation resting on his shoulders. The loss of a man who has committed himself to the same purpose doesn't mean you go ahead and kill yourself too, even if that man is your son. Anyway, it was Kaladin who ended up jumping in to help Adolin win. The man Dalinar had saved, freed and raised to his own bodyguard. So he did have some part in Adolin getting out of there alive and victorious. -
Fair enough. I'll admit that it is a good depiction. A quick google search tells me all about the 'quality' of other Adolin impressions. Hopefully, we can get an official image of him with the upcoming book, similar to the Shallan images.

Meh I don't know. He looks a bit too roguish to me here, with the open collar and flaring coat. It certainly looks good, but I've always imagined him looking more formal. The hair is spot on though. Also, weren't the Alethi supposed to be darker skinned than that?

Lol maybe it was, but I can't seem to remember. I think its time for a reread.
