Rathm had a sword. He hadn't used it in a while. There was some commotion during the day in which he'd considered drawing it, but it didn't amount to anything. That's OK. Day 1 of the trip was a time for him to watch his companions and get a general idea of what they were capable of. He'd been impressed by the reaction time of a few of the party when the spider had appeared. They'd beaten him to the action and been ready to defend the party much faster than he had. He began to picture the fight as it would have been if he'd been the one to engage. Parry, thrust, parry, thrust, parry, dodge, roll, lunge, slash. It would have been an easy fight. After all, the sword was more than just a tool for him, it was an extension of his hand, his heart, and his head. A part of him as surely as his nose. Yes, he could have killed the spider with ease, emerging unscathed as a hero of sorts for the party. Maybe...a scratch during the fight. Show that he'd actually been putting something on the line here. He started the fight over... Parry, thrust, parry, thrust, parry, parry, lunge, a gash down the back of his left arm here, yes, that would do nicely, parry, slash. He could feel the sword swaying in the scabbard on his back as he replayed the fight in his mind...the fight he hadn't actually fought. Rathm had a sword. He hadn't used it in a while. ~~ Well, that was interesting. I'd also like to see a final vote tally, but I think we can assume that the Hand stayed quiet since the day ended with a tie (I guess the Hand could have wiped Fifth's vote on Dalinar and that would have still resulted in a tie). It doesn't look like there would be another possibility of a tie on D1. NOW, I don't think we can give Walin and Xinoehp a free pass for this - they could still easily be with the Gondor spies, but they do look a little better now. Also, Devotary, I'm very much enjoying your RP. Walin, welcome to the game! (I mention after I shade you a bit...haha) I am a slight bit interested as to why Araris had such a late (5 minutes prior to rollover) vote switch.

Rathm had a sword. It didn't define him, but was a part of him nonetheless. There were days when he felt the sword was actually a part of him. Like they could communicate. It's what had brought him to the Greenwood in the first place. He'd been protecting a merchant traveling to The Shire when he'd just had a feeling he was needed here. Without collecting his pay for the partial journey (he was sure the merchant would argue with him over every penny) he'd left in the middle of the night and begun this part of his journey. He wasn't happy about the decision, after all, he'd never actually seen one of the hobbit folk, if they even existed. Oh well, he'd have to find another time to see one of the little folk. With the party just setting out, he was hoping to see more people involved. Surely, the toils of the road hadn't gotten to everyone this soon in the journey? The sword vibrated ever-so-subtly in his hand. This was something he'd been waiting for...a name started to form in his mind, nothing he'd heard before. And just like that, it was gone before he could catch it...sometimes the sword was like that. Perhaps the reason for the name had gone? Rathm had a sword. It didn't define him, but was a part of him nonetheless. ~~ I was going to throw a poke vote out there, but saw that all the experienced people who haven't been active have already been poked... (Also, I'd been staring that player list, getting my vote-tracking ready to go, and just now saw Anonymous Phoenix...guess I'm not as observant as I thought. *sigh*)

Rathm had a sword. He knew what to do with it. He didn't relish the use of it, but his hesitancy to draw it in anger had, in the past, resulted in others making a grave mistake in thinking that he couldn't use it. Now, although never quick to anger, Rathm was never slow to draw his sword. He started running as soon as he heard the scream. Since he had initially taken a position near the rear of the party, the current danger seemed dealt with by the time he made it up there. A spider? This close to Thranduir's realm? Either it was lost, or it was part of a larger hunting party. What if this was just a scout? Or a decoy attempting to draw the party's top fighters away from where the true strike was to happen. He quickly made his way back to the party, eyes scanning the forest on both sides. Rathm had a sword. He knew what to do with it. ~~ Hey folks, well now that I've gotten my feet wet with LG46, I'm ready to hit the ground running here! Love LotR (I think I read The Hobbit for the first time when I was like 8 or so), so expect more poorly-written RP compared to my last game.

Sign me up as Rathm. A guy with a sword. Not sure if I missed it, but are you announcing when someone is poisoned? Or is it just via PM?

Rath stormed through the castle, looking for Humperdinck and the 6-fingered count. With Inigo dead, and Wesley in a stupor, unable to fend for himself, Rath felt an obligation to fulfill their quests. "Show yourselves you vile fiends!" The prince has no honor, who (other than the Lannisters and Freys of course) would attempt a murder at a wedding?! After rounding another corner, he saw a group of people dressed as pirates "Come friends, we must find the count and the prince! Surely we must not allow our captain's love go unavenged!" "Actually, Rath, if that's your real name, we think you're to blame." "ME?! How could you possible imagine it was me who is responsible for the travesty that has arisen in this castle? Now, I know I just joined the crew a few weeks ago, but hear me out! I am as loyal to the captain as any of you!" "You helped lynch the Spaniard!" "No I didn't... I saw a fleeting glimpse of what I thought to be the 6-fingered man. After catching up with my foe, I realized it was, in fact, my friend and I turned to find another foe. Unfortunately, the mob struck before I had a chance to determine who to chase next." "You've only slain one of the prince's guards!" "Yeah...and?" "Well, we just don't like you. If we kill you, then maybe we'll be able to tell who Humperdinck is hiding as!" *sigh* "He's here...I can feel it...him or the count... Don't let them fool you!" "Enough, it is done! Your time is over!" "Maybe Max can save me!"

Haha, I'm having the opposite problem...I'm reading most people as elim to some degree right now... (Guess that happens when you're under fire?)

*sigh* I guess it's self-preservation vote again today... Walin Straw I will note that I do actually have a slight amount of suspicion on Straw. Cliff notes (I have quite a few meetings today that I need to get ready for...and I may not be out of the last one before rollover :/): I've been screaming for a few cycles now that someone on the elim side is likely to be amongst the more inactive players due to the relatively low number of votes it's taken to lynch a couple of the inactives. HOWEVER, Straw has been active enough for the following: D1, Abstain - I'm almost to the point where I agree that any of the D1 voting was NAI On D2, Straw voted for Sart...which resulted in a tie (that Sart broke with rum) that could have saved Elenion On D3, Straw voted for DoS, allowing rand to tie up the vote...which saved rand D4, abstain not sure maybe busy? Or trying to distance a bit after two straight protection votes? D5 and D6, just voted for the runaway lynch targets D7, abstain - Jondesu obviously flipped village, so since the two leading vote-getters were village, the elims could just chill and watch us eat each other.

I should note, my point at killing off inactives isn't because I don't want the inactives in the game...it's because I think that there is a high chance that we have at least one elim hiding in the in inactive ranks. The fact that we haven't had anyone killed due to inactivity in a while means that everyone remaining is active to some degree at least...putting in 'the elims decide to kill this person' messages to Steeldancer would be sufficient to keep the activity up... Or talking in the elim doc for that matter.

Why would you give Sart a free pass when I show up as village? Just because that's my read? And the same for Fifth and elim? Just because Fifth is tunneling hard, doesn't mean elim. (which is why I'm not starting a lynch vote on Fifth at this point...although I'm getting closer to thinking that's the right move) That's the same logic (that I used as well) that resulted in the doc12 lynch... Why would me putting a vote on Jondesu in self defense be anything but NAI? (yes, I know how to use this term now) It's not like I started the vote, I didn't know for sure the Jondesu was a villager, and Jondesu made no claim at a special role. And I know that I'm a villager. So making sure I don't get lynched with a fairly late-in-the-day vote (to see if anyone else was planning on voting on someone more likely to be elim) was my only move. Also, with regards to flipping suspicion back onto Fifth, I had Fifth as an elim read until I made the (now determined to be incorrect) assumption that special elim roles couldn't have special abilities. This is merely returning to my previous mindset. ALSO, put yourself in my shoes. If someone comes at you with rather shaky logic accusing you of being elim, wouldn't you start looking for reasons why they were doing that? I've addressed every question about my activity, provided logical responses. Some of the reasons Fifth is suspicious of me is due to me not knowing how some of the terminology or rules of this specific version of the game. (but they keep getting brought up) The ONLY legitimate reason I could see anyone being suspicious of me is due to D3...for which I'm being given the full blame for DoS getting lynched. (Looking back on this...why would Fifth say Straw is cleared? Aside from relative inactivity, Straw's voting pattern has been abstain, try to save randuir, and vote on runaway lynches) I'm going to park a vote back on Walin. I still don't see any situation where the "I'm going to post and make analysis but never vote" strategy could help the village.

@Fifth Scholar, your reasoning is getting harder to follow as you go along here. My suspicion of you had only been mildly piqued by Steeldancer's declaration that special roles may have special abilities as well. I truly used my rum because I was under the impression that that wouldn't be the case and I wanted someone I thought was a villager to focus on people who actually could be elims... If we knew that there was a chance at special roles having special abilities, do you really think that both Sart and I would pin any of our case on something that could easily be confirmed or denied? I don't have the time right now to go back and determine who the first person was to note that as a likely situation, but I know I'm not the only one who's noted the likely lack of basic elim roles at this point. You still haven't really given a counter argument to the idea that active/inactives are heavily involved with the elim group. How else do both Elenion and Bort get lynched with only three votes? (OK, Bort was a quick turnaround at the end of the cycle, but still seems unlikely) And we only had 5 total votes last day cycle. The fact that I'm largely in your line of suspicion right now makes me think that I'm spot on with that assertion...or you're elim. At this point, I'm unsure if I feel there's enough of a case on Fifth for a lynch, but I'm starting to lean more that way. I think I'm still looking primarily at the more inactive players right now.

Yes, I used that rum. Not necessarily in self-preservation (unless other vote manipulation was available, I was fine without using it), but to try to provide a way to prove my alignment... (which prompted Fifth questioning Steel on the distribution) So, yeah, that turned out to just be a waste of rum.

That's a slight misinterpretation of what I said there... I haven't necessarily been trying to avoid bandwagons. Just saying that me being 'bandwagony' isn't quite accurate, and providing a counter-example to the assertion. I have definitely jumped on a few bandwagons. :/ That ruins a couple theories I had. Both Fifth and Sart were fairly hard-cleared for me before this statement. I'm still pretty confident on both being villagers, but that does throw a bit of a wrench in my theories. Actually makes Fifth look somewhat suspicious again due to this: Obviously that was just a small part of the conclusion of Fifth's case against me, but I don't think I've seen anyone apologize that sincerely for a bad read on someone in the game...seems like it's trying to hedge a bit if I did get lynched. I actually had half a post typed up regarding this before I realized we were down to just special roles (and I figured that special roles wouldn't have additional special abilities) Now I'm unsure.

Someone brought it up and wasn't sure...just stating. You can find the quote from earlier on in the thread. I also pointed out that Sart used rum, you claimed a dagger, and other random one-line responses when people weren't sure on information. This isn't very different logic from my initial read of you as elim based on your last-minute Araris swap. Also...you had a vote on DoS for a while, as did Sart. At that point, I didn't have any real suspicion on rand...(I can expand with additional quotes tomorrow if necessary)...but some of the DoS activity didn't seem quite right from the earlier cycles. I should note that I had already told via PM with Dalinar that I wasn't planning on keeping my vote on DoS before the Spaniard claim came out... (I'll leave that up to Dalinar to confirm). And, after thinking about that comment...that doesn't help my case a lot as if I was elim, then Humperdinck could have easily "followed" DoS on one of the previous nights to see who was targeted. (Although I'm unsure based on the verbiage as to whether or not 'find out who they target' would only include special character actions, or whether it would include PMs as well) Honestly, I made this change rather late in the day, I didn't have any other major suspicions. My read on rand came after he started analyzing the DoS votes and gave me a free pass for precisely the activity you're flagging me for right now. I should be around plenty tomorrow as well if there are any further questions for me. In the interest of furthering the discussion to some degree, I would like to say that come end of cycle, I can provide definitive proof that I am not an elim.

I guess I'll wait for @Fifth Scholar's reasoning to see what I should be defending myself against. I still don't get how we haven't really generated discussion on the relatively inactive people in the game. The fact that, as has been pointed out MULTIPLE TIMES, multiple elims have been lynched with fairly low vote counts definitely implies to me that we should be looking at people who haven't been voting. I'm going to go ahead with my Walin vote for now. Another quick note: if we are correct about there being 5 elims, they won't have any vote manipulation remaining. I'll be active more later tonight (US-based) and tomorrow to defend myself.

That's a mildly fair assertion. However I would say 'opportunistic' would be a bit more accurate. I voiced suspicion on rand...then voted when there was an opportunity to lynch. I've voiced suspicions on you...now I'm voting on you since there's an opportunity to lynch. And, in fact, I pulled my vote OFF Fifth when that started to become bandwagony... To reaffirm (or maybe affirm if I hadn't actually typed this out yet) my suspicions on you (doc12), I'm assuming people have probably surmised by now that I'm keeping track of voting records... doc12 voting record: Araris (lynched villager) Abstain (lynched elim - this is the main one that doesn't make as much sense since it was a close vote that had plenty of time to be affected by counter votes...) DoS (lynched villager) Abstain (lynched elim - this was a close vote, but it happened VERY quickly at the end of the cycle) Abstain (lynched elim - this was a landslide vote that the elim team couldn't have affected by voting alone) I still stand by my assertion that at least one person from the day 1 lynch is likely to be an elim. All 5 are still alive currently and my initial suspicions that Fifth was the elim look rather weak right now...doc12 is my current #1 suspect from that day.

Not sure what you're referring to other than some vague references to odd behavior... My vote on randuir happened after I had voiced suspicions previously and pointed out some odd behavior in his play...also broke a tie between rand and Straw. Unless you think Straw is also elim, not sure how my vote could lend itself to any suspicion. One thing I'd like to get others to weigh in on: I threw out the thought of starting to look more at the relative inactives from a voting perspective and this was rand's response... I could definitely see this being a bit of deflecting here, trying to quickly dismiss the thought since rand probably didn't see a lynch coming the next day... Anyone else reading anything here?

I should note that my vote is not solely fueled by the Drake logic... A case against Walin has been made several times over the past few days. doc12 is also fairly high on my list, (probably #2 or 1a) so I'll switch over there for now.

Whew, I was worried for a bit that I might just have had a bad read on randuir. Good job folks. At this point we can assume there are likely 2 elims remaining... (If so, it's just Humperdinck and the 6-fingered man remaining...interesting) I'm still curious if the elims have had some kind of plan with their night kills since they stopped killing miracle max claimants... Oh Drake. SO YOUNG!!! So much to live for! So many more lynches to vote on! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!??!!? Anyway, assuming it's not random... There are two things that kind of stand out with Drake's recent activity: Made an attempt at lynching Walin yesterday Mentioned a method to determine distancing between players based on the number of mentions. Either of these two could have triggered something amongst the elims... Since I don't have anything to efficiently perform the distancing algorithm Drake referred to, I'm going to test out the Walin theory. I'll check out the thread in ~10 hours, but won't be able to be active on the thread at all after that...going to be the same all week.

Even implying that luck has to do with Sart's votes should say that you're arguing village. Elims don't need luck to vote on someone. (I guess if you're saying it was a bit of luck that it was another elim twice...that seems unlikely...) I've been waffling quite a bit on this vote. Right now amongst active people I'm seeing randuir and doc12 as the more suspicious... doc12 due to voting history (Araris > Abstain > Devotary > Abstain) The main argument I could see against that being suspicious is that the two elim votes were close enough that not abstaining could have resulted in a different result. randuir...is interesting...various people seem to have various reasons for suspicion right now. I find the assertion that Devotary offered no proof to the Spaniard claim to be kind of odd... As much as someone COULD offer proof, Devotary did...explaining exactly who was followed and the results. Additionally, my comment that randuir seemed to have a strong village read on me resulted in almost immediate backtracking and the comment that I was someone to watch now. Either mega backtracking there to try to save face...or a fairly significant internal shift in opinion of me... Since the topic has come up, Straw does seem a bit suspicious...twice there's been a comment of basically, "Oh, I wish I had come back so I could retract my vote..." (D2 on Sart and D3 on DoS)." As always, RL needs to be considered, but that seems a bit odd. Other than that, Walin's decision to be somewhat active yet not vote is highly suspicious...the only reason to do that is as a supremely meta-game decision. If you never vote in any game, no one can get a read on you...I haven't played enough with Walin to know whether or not that's a standard practice...but that seems a relatively bad decision even from a meta perspective - you're likely to be village far more often than elim...so you're harming your team more often than helping. At this point, Straw and randuir are leading in votes... I'm going to sit my vote on randuir for now.

I wouldn't say I backed off Fifth because of an argument, more an opportunity for self reflection (I'm using that term broadly). Honestly, I still don't like the move Fifth made D1, but that's the only real piece of evidence I can find there. Given that I had been experiencing increasing amounts of doubt on my vote, I decided it best to pull off until I had a chance to re-read more of the content here. So, you people can tell my wife that I'm not always stubborn to a fault! At this point, Sart's comment does seem to carry a decent amount of logic with it - we keep killing off people who are contributing to the progression of the game and are actually providing data on their role this game. I'm probably going to switch my focus, at this point at least, to the people who are just sitting around the edges of the game. My first comment tonight mentioned the fact that we had a record number of abstentions for this lynch. (For the record, we had 12 then 12 then 10 then 13...seems a few more people came out of the woodwork after we killed an elim...interesting) Regardless, as the game goes on, we should have fewer abstentions just due to the fact that there are fewer players (again, I'm partially to blame for this last one). Note: I'm not giving Sart a free pass here, just saying that when we're grasping at straws, why are we giving the people who aren't contributing a free pass at this point?
