Anti-hemalurgy: We're in Moash's PoV and he doesn't seem terribly concerned about where precisely the knife goes in, nor is there a sense his strike is being guided, and the spike points are important, at least in Scadrian hemalurgy. Pro-hemalurgy: Something wound up getting stored in that gem, and since on Roshar gems are how you store investiture you'd expect Rosharan hemalurgy to involve gems. I think at this point all we can say with any confidence is that Jezrien's sense that this death was different is related to the loss of whatever's in the gem now. ETA: WoB ninjas are best ninjas.

I think Regrowth is less likely, because it's based on Progression, and spren don't naturally heal over time like living things do (Pattern in WoR tells Shallan something like "we do not unbreak without intervention"). But the way Shallan has used Illumination and Transformation to subtly alter the people around her could be relevant here. Maybe she needs to draw Adolin as an Edgedancer and Maya as his bonded spren. Or maybe it is Progression and Illumination after all. I'm pretty sure that the impression Adolin had of his best self while Renarin was healing his hand was from Illumination, not just Progression. ETA: Of course there's the possibility that Renarin's Illumination is nonstandard because of Glys, which might play a role in doing something nobody thinks is possible.... Okay now I've talked myself into thinking Renarin is more likely to help Adolin and Maya than Shallan. Or maybe they all have to work together?

The OP's proposed method strikes me as too simple, but I wouldn't be surprised if somebody with Transformation turned it to be helpful in reviving a dead eyed radiant spren.

[OB] My thoughts on Taravangian
digitalbusker replied to WalterWhiteVevo's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think he's interesting, but so far I don't see him on track to actually accomplish anything good. Do we know anything he's deliberately done that was good, from an opposing-Odium standpoint? I'm not talking about second order effects like inspiring heroes to combat his villainy, I mean a plan to help the world that has been executed successfully. -
The periodic table column version would have been cool, but then Vin wouldn't have been able to find duralumin by experimenting with aluminum.

I was skeptical at first, but sign me up for Black Hole (Iron/Iron), because of the way it affects falling bodies (or the way it doesn't, rather). make yourself very light, and Pull hard on the top of a nearby skyscraper, pulling yourself into the air make yourself very heavy (without decreasing your upward momentum!) and Pull hard on the guy you were just facing off against (or if he's already gotten rid of his belt buckle, the mailbox/car/train/vault door behind him), yanking him towards you at ludicrous speed maintain both pulls so he sails underneath you and slingshots straight up profit!

[OB] On the Dawnchant translation progress
digitalbusker replied to Rlain's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, Taravangian seems like the likely overlap between "commissioners of Dawnchant translations" and "people who have a strict deadline". Nicely spotted.- 2 replies

I've spent a lot of time working with metal, so I'm saying Willshaper because of the Essential association with metal, and because the associated Divine Attributes (Resolute, Builder) are things I aspire to.

I write down "blue" next to eye color on forms that ask for that, but there's some hazel around the pupil. Hopefully my crappy attempt to demonstrate with my front facing camera is good enough to illustrate but not good enough for you to spoof biometric locks. I think, given how bright and freaky the lighteyes' colors are, that I'd probably either get lumped in as a darkeyes or treated as some kind of disturbing third thing, a person so abandoned by the Almighty that I didn't get my eye color set. I can imagine people being superstitious about that.

[OB] Why Are The Death Rattles Bad?
digitalbusker replied to teknopathetic's topic in Stormlight Archive
If there's something hinky about the afterlife on Roshar it may be that the rattles are part of it. It may also be that they're not intrinsically harmful except when someone uses them as a tool to manipulate. Sort of how Midnight Essence copies of people aren't inherently harmful until somebody gives them the kill order. -
[OB] Some Knight Radiant quotes

"I came here to kick chull and drink lemonade, and I'm halfway out of lemonade." --Unknown Dustbringer -
I guess that's why the rattler is so ambivalent about the wishes of all who breathe.
-
It is interesting to consider in a broader sense whether that death rattle is about a Baby Hitler scenario rather than a terrible sacrifice scenario.

Also, and this is more subject to poetic license, Gavinor is probably too old to be suckling.

All through Kaladin's fight with mecha-Amaram, every time he was forced to break off an attack to dodge or parry, I would think "You know what would be helpful right now? Shardplate." I really thought he was going to be pushed to say his next Words to survive that fight. Instead we got the (air) cavalry to the rescue, which was better than yet another conveniently timed level up. But I think it sets up the eventual importance of plate nicely.

(OB) Lightweavers could produce radiation
digitalbusker replied to TheMediocreMind's topic in Stormlight Archive
The cymatic cities thing seems like maybe something that would take both a Lightweaver and a Stoneward (or multiples of both, for a city scale project?), unless we're assuming the Windblades et al were Soulcast in place, but that seems prohibitively expensive.- 26 replies

She likes living in a place with weak storms, and wishes that didn't mean she also has to put up with humidity.

obKilljoy: We should not assume that it's possible for one person to bond more than one honorblade just because it's possible to do it with deadblades.

The similarity between stone hooves and stone fingernails makes me want a Ryshadium PoV. "Hey, Wilbur, you want to ride me, I think. We Ryshadiums are the best at riding, sure. One time, I carried six, probably seven Horneaters a hundred miles. Fat ones, sure, in armor."

I see no reason that you'd need to understand the way radiants got Shardplate to create half shards. Taravangian could know that because reasons without having been involved in the R&D. That said I think we're reading too much into the "blessed a Knight Radiant" clause, and it probably is a radiant spren trapped during the vulnerable period after making the transition but before finding somebody to bond. Do you want to tell Syl she's not blessing Kaladin in an ongoing way?

[OB] At what point did you spot Vivenna?

Like the OP I missed the name because of the gender shell game. I spotted her when she said something with "crimson" in it, I think during dinner.- 40 replies

Manners? Humility? The assumption that the Herald of the Skybreakers might still be able to teach him a thing or two about that Surge?
