Looks like you might need to make that 3 in a row, considering we haven't heard from @Random Bystander.

Mid-Range Game 62: In The Shadow of Ash
StrikerEZ replied to StrikerEZ's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Varloux was furious. That cursed terriswoman had brought death and destruction to Creston. With the latest murder and message being planted right on the outside of his inn, Varloux's business plummeted. There was only one thing he could do. Kick Wandwy out. The next morning, he stormed up to Wandwy's room and banged on her door. He waited only a minute before barging in. Wandwy sat primly at her desk in the room, reading another one of those hefty books she had brought with her. "What is the meaning of this?" She said, slamming her book down on the desk and standing to turn towards Varloux. "You don't even know what's been going on in this town ever since you got here," Varloux started, walking up to her. "Ever since you got here, people have been killed. Brutally. The town has started tearing itself apart trying to figure out who's been doing it. I didn't really believe your fancy stories about important secrets and a dark god, but now I do. They pinned a dead body to this inn. I think they know you're here." "Oh dear," Wandwy said softly. "They have finally found me here, I think. Yet why not kill me yet? Are they waiting to set up the perfect opportunity? Is Ruin being hindered by other forces, leaving him unable to completely devote his attention here? Whatever the case may be, it means that my mission is of the utmost importance. I must find a way to beat Ruin." "I don't know what half of that means, terriswoman," Varloux said, "but I need you to leave. Now." "Excuse me?" "Yes. Leave. As in, pack your belongings and go somewhere else. I can't keep you here if your presence is going to drive my customers away and ruin my business." "You cannot be serious. You would really leave me with nowhere to go, while dark forces hunt me down? That would be quite foolish, I think." "Yeah, well, call me a damn fool then. Out." Varloux stood there, pointing at the door. His heart was hammering. This was the biggest confrontation he had ever had with someone before. Eventually, Wandwy seemed to realize that Varloux was serious. She began to pack her things. "You must be willing to at least give me a day to pack up my things." "I can give you that," Varloux said. Even that was a bit too long for his tastes, but it was the least he could do. "Be out of here no later than nightfall." ~ As the sun began to set and ash began to fall across the town, Wandwy set off from the inn. She did not know where she was headed. Or how long she would survive. As far as she knew, most of the rest of the world could be in shambles by this point. Perhaps heading to Luthadel, the center of the Final Empire, would shed some light on the state of the world. She didn't make it very far from the inn before she heard the screams. Instincts kicked in. She tapped her pewtermind and her steelmind, her muscles increasing in size, her legs pushing her faster than she could ever normally run. She rounded a corner, going between two buildings. She saw a man on the ground, two cloaked figures standing over him. Wandwy could not tell who had killed the poor man, who seemed to have barely struggled. She could not even tell if they were working together, as one of the figures ran off faster than Wandwy could keep up with. However, she was able to catch one of them. She grabbed him, pushing him to the ground with her increased strength. She heard the man groan, but he continued to try and fight her off. He was not the most well-trained fighter, unfortunately. For him, at least. Wandwy beat him far more than she likely should have. She should have gone softer, kept him alive to interrogate. She stopped tapping her metalminds, returning to her normal size. Fearing the worst, she ripped off the man's shirt, looking for something. She found it. A spike in his chest. The Wandering Wizard has been removed! They were a Spiked Seeker! So, Bip’s got a concert right now, which I’m attending. I also have to take her home afterwards. Plus my phone is about to die. Hopefully I can get my phone plugged up in my car and charged enough to close the Cycle, but just be aware I might not be around to close it. Here’s my official statement that anything after 10 pm CST will not be counted. Also here’s my warning that rollover might be longer than normal, unless I can get home faster than I currently expect to.- 716 replies

Mid-Range Game 62: In The Shadow of Ash
StrikerEZ replied to StrikerEZ's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Jen stood at trial. It was time for the town and its horrors to judge him. Right when he was finally making progress. Right when the shadows had begun to recede. The world chose to make his life even worse. He pled his innocence. The masses did not care to listen. He pointed at someone else. It was a guess at who might have killed the poor woman, her body crushed like a stick. They heeded his thoughts, for a moment. Then they turned against him. The executioner came for him. As he drew near, Jen saw the executioner for their true self. A horror. Finally, he had his sweet release from the horrors and shadows. ~ It was a bloody business, watching a man get executed. Varloux always hated watching them, but Drestien had made a show of the thing. Gathered up all of the villagers, skaa and noble alike, to sit and watch the trial. To watch the execution at the end of the trial. Jen had been clearly insane. Most of his "defense" was incomprehensible. Something about shadows and horrors. And pointing at poor Jandro. Jandro's responses were perhaps not the most eloquent, but at least he was sane! Varloux made his way back to his inn. Subtly giving suggestions to the people of Creston as he walked. Maybe they needed a drink after seeing yet another death in their village. There had been far too many of those lately. They deserved a break. A nice night of relaxing and talking with friends. That would surely do the trick, yeah? Unfortunately, his inn did not receive the level of business he had been expecting. That was unfortunate, but survivable. He would get through this thick patch and bounce back to his previous levels of success. He always did. At the end of the night, he went to bring food up to his secret resident. The terriswoman had grown even more reclusive since she had heard from Varloux about the murders in the town. Perhaps she was right about the Inquisitors? About the dark force bent on killing everything? Nah, that couldn't be. The only god Varloux believed in was the Lord Ruler. He might have been a terrible god, but at least he didn't want to kill everyone all the time. Varloux knocked on Wandwy's door. He waited a few more minutes, then knocked again. He barely heard her mumbled response. "Just leave it outside the door." Varloux sighed, but fulfilled her request anyway. As much as he hated having to deal with Wandwy, she was his customer. And she paid extremely well. Varloux had barely made it back downstairs when Ged, the old man, came around a corner and grabbed Varloux by the shoulders. "Have you seen it? Have you seen what happened?" Varloux was taken aback by Ged's frantic words. "No," Varloux said, "I don't know what you're talking about. How did you even get in here, anyway?" "Damiste was killed!" Ged screamed, dragging Varloux behind him. Damiste...ah yes, the noble who always bragged about his proud, noble lineage. His extremely special name. Why should Varloux care if he had been killed? It was just another death of someone he didn't care about in this stupid town. That is, until Varloux saw Damiste hanging from the side of the inn, a spike through his throat. Blood was scattered across the wall, some of it spelling out a message. "I know she's here." JNV has been removed! They were a Village Thug! The Known Novel has been killed! Mid-Range Game 62: In The Shadow of Ash
StrikerEZ replied to StrikerEZ's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The shadows enveloped Jen. They always had. Following him around. Horrors hidden within their depths. He could not live life away from their sight. Ever watching. Waiting. Plotting. Why would they not leave him alone? Why could only he feel them there, hiding just out of sight? Thirsty for his blood. His sight was blinded by shadows and darkness. It was all he had ever known. The latest horror to emerge hardly startled him at this point. He had grown accustomed to the terror. The fear. The sudden realization this would be the end. Jen prepared to run, to have his last few moments of life. Then he noticed what the horror was. A hand. Crushed and bruised. Slowly, he drew near. Uncovered the rest of the body. Broken on the ground like a stick. This horror had been stopped. Brutally. But had it been necessary? For once Jen was unsure. The other horrors found him there, over the dead horror. They surrounded him and threatened him with faces he should know. He had lived here his whole life, had he not? This death was his fault, they said. He should be held accountable Had he not done a good thing, uncovering this dead horror? They began to beat him. This is the end. Or is it? A strength surged within Jen. The shadows and horrors receded at his own hands. A power he had yet to use. Saved for a moment like this. The horrors, no villagers, seemed wary of him now. Perhaps this was his second chance at escaping them for good. To live free of the horrors of the shadows. JNV was sentenced for removal, but they survived! _Stick_ was killed! Oop forgot to post in this thread. Just wanted to quickly say that I had a blast those first couple cycles. Getting Lynchbait was so much fun, even if it bit me in the butt. And it was hilarious being the first to die and come back. I'm so glad I got to be the guinea pig for that. Anyway, thank you @Kasimir and @Fifth Scholar for running this game! And thanks to @Elandera helping out as an IM!

Mid-Range Game 62: In The Shadow of Ash
StrikerEZ replied to StrikerEZ's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It was a sorry lot that gathered in the town square that day. Not the same spot as where Mern's body had been found. Thankfully the thing parading as Drestien, the new mayor, was competent enough to avoid gathering the people there. Feden could give him that much credit. As the town began to gather in for the meeting Drestien had called, Feden focused on watching them. They were small, though they had grown a lot in the last few years. These were the people Feden should have been in charge of, not Drestien. But alas, things had not played out that way. And with all the talk of the Lord Ruler falling and this latest murder in the town, Feden worried about getting power back from Drestien next election. Perhaps he could stage a coup? Use the current unrest within the townsfolk to get them to overthrow Drestien? Make him the scapegoat for the murder? That could work.... Feden was so entranced in his treasonous thoughts that he had hardly paid attention to the meeting's proceedings. Why had Drestien called this meeting again? Oh yeah. It wasn't just about calming the people down. It was about getting them to vote on whom amongst them was the killer. It wasn't going well. Everyone kept shouting names and cursing at each other. After several hours of deliberation, most of the accusations settled on Fadran. He was a new face to the town. Had not gotten to know people very much. He kept claiming he was just making his way through the town before finding work elsewhere. But he had stayed just long enough to maybe learn how the town worked. Its security, lack of security in places. The habits of its people. Who would be the best first victim. It was only a matter of time before mob mentality took over. The last time Feden had seen this happen was during some riots in Luthadel when he was but a child. This was no Luthadel riot, but Fadran did not last long amongst that crowd. None of them would confess to making the killing blow that day, but perhaps it didn't matter. Perhaps it was the sum of all of the hits that cut Fadran's temporary stay in Creston short. Feden walked up to Drestien after the crowd dispersed and the few constables showed up to dispose of Fadran's body. "Do you think that was the killer?" Feden asked. "I sure hope it was." ~ Fadran was not the killer. As night settled upon the town, screams were heard. Once again, the sounds came from the town center. Where Mern had been found. Varloux was the first on the scene. His inn had been specifically placed near the town center to profit off of townspeople spending time there, then wishing to retire nearby. It was a gruesome scene he came upon. Two bodies scattered throught the town center. Gerald Heloux, a nobleman. Not that he had been very noble, but even someone who shunted all of their noble duties did not deserve a death like this. Xino, a skaa man that proudly boasted about his fancy card he always carried with him. Someone had drawn strange symbols and markings on it. And left a pile of bones, picked clean, nearby? "By the Lord Ruler," Varloux whispered. "This is a bloody mess. I need to open the inn early. People are going to need to drink after this." Channelknight Fadran has been removed!
