  1. Yeah. Thank you. Though, it doesn't help that he has this horrible, barking cough. He has it all the time, not just recently, but it's been getting gradually worse the past couple days.
  2. So...I'm in the ER for my little brother. He's been throwing up all day and hasn't been able to keep any fluids in his body. After he throws up, he kinda turns white. I was at school when this happened, but my mom said that he had thrown up so badly that his lips had turned white and blue. They IV'd him up, and he eventually went back home, but we're back again because it's been almost 12 hours and like I said, he hasn't been able to drink anything without throwing it up.
  3. Hey, welcome to the Shard! I'm sure you'll love it here, and the people here know what they're talking about when it comes to this stuff. And don't worry, you're already way ahead of me in the Cosmere; I've only read the first Mistborn book, but I know enough to avoid the cookies.
  4. Yay! Good luck!
  5. Yes, but that is a major spoiler. The book series is called SYLO. I think, at least. Let me go check. EDIT: It's actually The SYLO Chronicles
  6. If you need helping finding them, I can tell you the authors' names.
  7. So, I'm gonna be trying out for drum major in...about 11 days. I'm not ready at all, and my application is do next Monday. I'm really excited and I hope I can get to Phase II of the audition process, but you never know I guess.
  8. That's good. Sad that you can't finish it though. No, what are they about?
  9. Which one of you is answering this question right now? Are you both answering? Are neither of you?
  10. Yeah, I getcha. My list is amazingly full right now, as well. I've got 8 books checked out from my library right now, and I've still got a huge list that I haven't started checking books out for yet (of course, those 8 are on it too, and some of the others haven't even come out yet).
  11. Ah come one, you have to keep reading. It gets so much better, especially considering what type of book it is. For a children's book, it gets pretty dark at times.
  12. @Tristan As of right now, my favorite books are Mistborn, The Reckoners, the SYLO trilogy, the Insignia trilogy, the Old Kingdom series, the Jackaby series, the Atherton trilogy, Six of Crows (and Crooked Kingdom), Wings of Fire, Lorien Legacies, and The Young Elites. There are several other books/series I love, but these are my favorites.
  13. Sure, I could PM you right now. Let me get some of my music ready (although it's most WIPs).
  14. All the Old Ones had left us were a bucket of lard and two lamb shanks. We stared, dumbfounded as Their large, golden bodies walked away from us, taking Their powerful light with Them. The small cave began to grow dimmer, although the crystals hanging from the low ceiling had stored some of the energy from the Old Ones. We wouldn't spend the night in the dark, at least. I stared down at the pitiful food supply that They had left us with. I looked next to my arms, the scars still fresh from where They had removed my runes. The only way I could fight. This was even worse than the dampening chambers. At least I new the runes would glow again once it was my next fight or training session. I finally turned towards the men and women cowering behind me. They had trusted me; I had led them here, straight to their deaths. Lucar, the youngest man and already a very scrawny fellow, had received the worst of the Testing. I knew he wouldn't last much later if we couldn't get him some help. None of us would, and I almost gave up then and there. Felmia sat beside Lucar, and she cared for him, making sure he stayed awake. She turned towards me, an expectant look on her face. She had trusted me, even when Lucar told her I was a fool for believing we were supposed to be the New Ones. She should've listened to him. They all should have. But I wasn't gonna let these good people die because of me. "Darius," I yelled towards the darker man sitting in the corner, "you've got most of your clothing left. Get your arse over here and rip some bandages for Lucar!" Darius scoffed, and turned back towards me, standing and pushing himself from the wall. "Why should I, Gaelen?" He asked me, clenching his fists. "We're all gonna die anyway, he'll just be the first. We're all going to die because of you! Y-you traitor!" His entire body shook as he yelled at me, and I quickly noticed his side bleeding profusely. Why didn't he tell us how bad his Testing had been? "Darius, you need to sit down." I said calmly, approaching him with my hands up. "Just give me your shirt, and we'll tear it into several bandages." Darius looked ready to charge at me, but he sighed and put his hand to his head and sat down, the fight already drained from him. I quickly looked around the group, eyeing who had the most extra garments. Felmia stared at me, a pleading, helpless look. I saw very similar, sad faces spread across the group. I finally saw Jackor, who had almost all of his clothing with him, albeit ripped up. "Jackor, start tearing off strips of cloth so we can close up Lucar's wounds. I'll need some of the extra for Darius." I turned around to find Darius back on the floor, leaning slightly to the right. His eyes were closed and he was taking short, labored breaths. He opened his eyes to stare at me. I heard him whisper something, but I had to ask him to repeat it. "I'm gonna die, aren't I, Gaelan?" The words barely came out of his mouth. With them came up lots of blood. I quickly began to work, setting aside our former disagreement and differences, and told him I wasn't gonna let him die. I wasn't going to let anyone die for my stupidity. He just smiled and laughed up a little bit of blood. I tore away his shirt, revealing the Testing wound. It was far worse than I expected, the skin around the perfect circular hole black scarred. His rune scars were far worse than any of mine, and I couldn't stop myself from wincing. I placed the cloths on the wound, applying pressure to staunch the flow of blood. The cloth was soaked in seconds. The Testers knew how to make us lose the most blood efficiently. I sighed as I realized he wouldn't make it. "Darius," I said, snapping him awake. He turned towards me, eyes half open, "come on, don't go anywhere. Stay focused. Don't close your eyes." As I said these things, I cold feel his strength fading. "Come on, just stay awake a little longer," I pleaded with him, "we'll find a way out." He simply shook his head and closed his eyes, whispering something. I scrambled to hear his final words. "-the secret is the crystal. Find it," he coughed, blood splattering all over both me and his chest. I didn't care. I waited for him to finish, but he was already gone. I stood, and the group scattered back to the rest of the cave. Felmia and Jackor had patched Lucar up, but I doubted he'd last much longer, though his wounds weren't as severe as Darius' had been. I looked at the crystals hanging from the ceiling. I had barely paid attention to their glow. Glowing objects weren't uncommon in the life of a Ratan. They all glowed different colors, thanks to the Old Ones' presence earlier. They would be our ticket out of here. ----------------------------------------------- The small man smiled a laughed, a wicked glow on his face.
  15. I'm into (in to? I don't know either) lots of things these days. The main ones are playing/making/listening to music, reading, and writing. Music is a fairly new passion to me. I joined band in 6th grade and got put on the clarinet. I wasn't very good at first, and I didn't truly take it very seriously until...I can't exactly remember when, but it was going into high school as marching season started. Something just clicked with me. I really truly care about band, and I love playing my instrument (well instruments, because I play bass clarinet as well now). I'm not sure what exactly sparked this passion in me, I think it might've been my band director of one of the drum majors (who happened to be our tenor sax soloist), but ever since then, I've known exactly what I want to do with my life. I want to go on to be become a band director. As well, on the side I've begun to listen to and create electronic music. I create music using this app called Auxy, which makes it really easy to just plug in notes until a melody forms and then I just go from there. My only problem with that is that I seem to run out of inspiration to finish a song, and the longest song I've made so far is just a little over two minutes. Besides that, my tastes in music to listen to are widely varied. While I don't mind the pop stuff, I don't really like it all that much (except for a few songs), though they can be quite catchy. Like the music I make, I listen to electronic music, ranging from dubstep to house to trance. Alongside that, I also really enjoy listening to classical and modern orchestral music-a whole lot different from electronic music. As well, I love listening to DCI shows just for the music (but it's so much better with the visual too), which is absolutely amazing. I really like to read. Over the past 6-7 years, I think I've read well over 200 books. I just love reading, and I haven't really found a book I didn't like in some way, except for the really advanced, boring stuff (I once read a book for English in 6th grade where I didn't understand every third word). Of course, I've found book that truly outshine others (such as Brandon Sanderson's), and I've noticed flaws in others, but I've never hated a book before. I just think too much work and effort goes into a book, so there's no way I'd ever be able to bring myself to absolutely hate a book. Writing has always been something I've really enjoyed, but teachers have always made it so boring and just not fun for me. I can come up with good ideas, or at least I hope they're good, but I have a hard time getting those ideas out on paper. For awhile, I tried to ignore writing and focus just on music (which I love), but I can't seem to ever escape writing. I just love it too much, and I want to get these amazing worlds I've created in my head onto paper. While I want to be a band director, the idea of also writing on the side is really enticing.
  16. https://soundcloud.com/strikerez/megalovania-remix So, this was my first (and only) song I've finished. It isn't that great, and the last minute or so is really rushed. I just kind of lost motivation to make it my own, so it's not really a remix. Just a cover pretty much. I've got some other works in progress, if you guys wanna hear them.
  17. I actually didn't realize there was until I finished it. Whoops. Also, the chart's good and all, but I don't wanna have to keep flipping back and forth if I need to quickly remember a metal's powers (which happens a lot with the Emotional metals, for some reason), so having my own chart that I can glance at is nice. Also, I added atium, gold, and the eleventh to my chart. I knew I should've got the entire trilogy all at once, because now I'm dying to read the next book. Also...holy cow, that book was so amazing. I loved every second of it. Since it was so long, I would get sucked into it for hours at a time, not even realizing where the time went. But at the same time, I could usually get up at a moment'a notice and not feel absolutely horrible because I'd be away from the book.
  18. @Tristan I really agree with @Darkness Ascendant Your eyes are gorgeous. They're like the perfect mix between blue and green. I love how they transition to a greener color around the pupil. They're just so vibrant.
  19. I'm finally getting around to Mistborn. I'm so glad I chose this over the several other books I need to read. I'm only about halfway through the second part, but dang...I freaking love this book. I love how complex and interesting Allomancy is. I've even written out a list of what each metal does. Of course, I'll have to remake it once I learn about the non-basic metals, and to make it neater now that I know that metals come in pairs.
  20. About the music thing, I can play the clarinet, bass clarinet (or most variations of the clarinet, really), I'm teaching myself the alto saxophone, and I can figure out the notes on a piano, but not really play. I've noticed that most people as well, outside of band, choir, or orchestra, seem to not being very musically inclined. They don't seem to understand music all that much either. At least, how to play instruments or make music, that is. I also feel like the fine arts, in my school, are severely underappreciated.
  21. You could play It's Raining Somewhere Else....
  22. That's when my brother said it was coming out, but I'll check to make sure. Yup, it's summer this year. It doesn't specify when in the summer, but I'd assume late June/early July probably.
  23. Yeah, while there is necromancy, it's definitely not meant to be very dark. At least, that's how I interpreted it. There's so much more to the world than just necromancy, trust me. Yes, he made a prequel, Clariel. Then he made another book, more recently, set after Abhorsen, Goldenhands.
