The first thing you find out when yer dog learns to talk is that dogs don't got nothing much to say. About anything. "Need a poo, Todd." "Shut up, Manchee." "Poo. Poo, Todd." "I said shut it." A bit longer then a sentence, for full effect! It's from 'The knife of never letting go'. It was one of my fave YA Sci-fi books from back in the day.

Nice to meet you Animus, and welcome to the forum! My name is Riah (you can call me Ree) and I'm pretty new here too. But everyone's really lovely so I'm sure you'll feel right at home See you around the board!

My feelings exactly! I too would have preferred he ended up with someone entirely different. To be honest, I loathed the idea of any romance between Ron and Hermione too, as I wanted the main focus to be the original bond of friendship between the three of them. Adding the romantic dynamic meant that Harry was sort of left out as a third wheel. Ultimately, I wish JKR would have steered away from writing romance as I'm not sure that it's her forte.

Emilia from Re: Zero. She's boring as hell and underdeveloped. I also hate Nagisa of Clannad for pretty much the same reason. I hate Ginny from Harry Potter. I hated the way she was more or less MIA for the majority of the books then was suddenly reintroduced as this beautiful, intelligent, sporty, talented girl. I felt like JKR was trying to force me to like her. To be honest, I'm not that crazy about Navani from SA, but I can't quite put my finger on why. Initially it was because I felt like she was making the moves on Dalinar as a sort of 'back-up' option to Gavilar. Plus she just seemed sort of vapid and overly involved in this romantic drama between her and Dalinar. Now she's been made more sympathetic with the story that she had always loved Dalinar more, but thought he was not interested so married Gavilar instead. And that story just doesn't float with me, so my dislike of her hasn't changed much.

That's so sweet of you! I've read the Emperor's Soul (loved it!) and would love to read Warbreaker but I think I'll buy it as I have a few Audibility credits rattling around Hope to see you around the board!

I had a sort of similar situation, where people began to assume that I was standoff-ish and stuck-up just because I didn't seek conversation with them first. The way I see it, they could have initiated conversation if they wanted to. Instead they sit around passing judgement on people they don't even know. Not the sort of people I would ever form a friendship with.

People who think that introversion is something which requires 'curing'. No, I DO genuinely just like to read for hours on end. No, I'm not lonely - when i want to spend time with my friends, I do. And no, introversion does not equate to shyness.

I think this is where the differences in our opinions are. I personally don't think that giving your all to save your kin automatically makes you a 'good person'. To me that's a given, and doesn't earn you a pat on your back - a natural human instinct if you will. Kaladin was also desperate to save Tien. But just as you put it, Kaladin's story involves him 'directly influencing the lives of others'. It takes far greater strength of character to give your all to save the lives of people who you have not formed a bond with (though he does eventually). You could argue that what Kaladin did was in a way selfish as he was trying to make up for the events of his past in the army, but it doesn't change the fact that the outcome was ultimately a very positive one. Lamaril was an obstacle in the survival of Kaladin and his bridgecrew. With the level of suffering more or less caused indirectly by Lamaril, it's no wonder Kaladin felt the way he did at his death. If you view Shallan's actions as a 'means to an end' as you seem to, then criticising Kal for this makes no sense. You also seem very sympathetic towards Shallan's bad decisions because she's only 17 years old. Remember that Kaladin has only just turned 20, and will be making imperfect decisions too. But considering that, I've always thought he does exceedingly well.

In real life I think I'm quite a cynical person. I'm also extremely introverted, though my career has forced me to develop a very extroverted persona. I can only put it on for so long before it exhausts me though.

I've bought it but haven't gotten around to watching it. Does it add a lot to the story of FFXV? So far I'm loving the combat, though I'm still getting the hang of it. Still a measly level 14! Got absolutely slaughtered by some monsters when I got too gung-ho and went out at night -
Kaladin. Without a shadow of a doubt. I've never been so moved by a fictional character. I found myself feeling anguish at his hardships, pride at his achievements and a desperate hope that things work out well for him. He's the only character i've ever been moved to tears over (the scene where he goes back for Dalinar and his army). Whilst it's so difficult to choose a favourite moment, I'd have to say a scene from earlier in WoK stood out for me. It was the scene where he had lost all hope and was about to jump in to the chasm. Not only does he find the strength to carry on, but he also swears to protect the bridgemen with his life. And this is exactly what he did, watching his struggles and determination put me in complete awe of him. And even in WoR, where his flaws became more apparent, I found myself totally able to empathise and understand them.

I like to read whilst lying in bed, but honestly holding the WoK/WoR up as I read puts the fear of god in me. I'd only have to lose my grip once and SPLAT! My face would become a particularly hideous Picasso painting
