I'm feeling pretty confident that Trell = Autonomy, not Odium.  Remember, Hoid said in the letter that the recipient (we assume to be Frost?) accused him of perpetuating his grudge against Rayse (Odium) AND Bavadin (Autonomy).  I think they're working together, or that Autonomy is using Odium to advance his/her purposes.

I would like for Trell to be Autonomy, but I just don't see why would that be. I mean, we have a lot of clues telling us that Odium is Trell. There's only one Shard that we know of that is associated with red eyes. But maybe, the identity of Trell has been taken by various Shards. Remember that at first, Trell wanted to use the Set to rule Scadrial, which does not fit Odium's personality, but then, in the BoM epilogue, a Faceless Inmortal tells Edward that now they will destroy Scadrial, which sounds a lot like Odium. So, yeah, I really think that the drastic change in Trell's plans is because it's a totally different Shard.

What if Rayse dies at the end of Stormlight book 5, and Trell is the new vessel of Odium.

Just a passing thought as i dont really think this, but its a small possibly.

Thing ive learnt about Brandon as opposed to other writers is you have to think outside the box. Like way outside the box.

Frustrating cause our minds are made to theorize and make a conclusion even without evidence.... but freaking awesome at the same time when the answer/s is finally revealed.

Only the Stormfather knows, Trell might be Odium, or a completely different Shard, but the only thing I'm almost certain about is that Trell is a Shard, so, I'm not saying that theory is completely wrong. Maybe Rayse does die, but someone else becomes Odium, or maybe Sanderson can do the same as he did with Harmony, where two Shards were combined. Only time will tell. The only thing I'm completely, absolutely, 100% certain that is true, is that I am a stick.

Dalinar stands atop a large rock, analyzing the enemy and devising a strategy. Kaladin gives a motivating speech to the troops while Shallan listens with half an hear because she's busy maintaining an illusion so that the Parshendi don't notice the ambush. Lift doesn't even bother to listen with half an ear, because, well, she's Lift. To the side, Jasnah rests, recovering from the stress of Elsecalling all of them to this place, while Szeth listens intently to Kaladin's words, fiddling with the clasp on Nightblood's sheath.

The time finally comes. Kaladin finishes his speech, Dalinar gives the signal, and Shallan drops the disguise. Ten glowing sets of shardplate appear, ten glorious shardblades gleam with holy light. The time has come. The Oathpact is over. Humanity will make its final stand, and it will be victorious!

I love you! Really, this MUST happen!

Honestly, that's one of the things I'm looking forward to the most about the later SA books, seeing large groups of magic users in coordination. Brandon's MO so far has been solitary heroes like Vin or small groups like Vasher/Vivenna. I'm psyched to see what he would do with an entire army of surgebinders.

Yeah, I would love to see ten Knights Radiant, one from each order, fighting against an army of Voidbringers. That would probably be the best thing of all time if it happened. Just imagine, Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Szeth, Lift, Renarin, Jasnah, just to see all of them together would give me goosebumps. That would be EPIC!

Long answer: For a lot of them, it's a moot point, since they've been rendered non-canon and thus not useful for discussion- White Sand PrimeWay Of Kings Prime, Mythwalker, things like that.  For others, such as the Aethers from Aether of Night, they're almost canon but their source books are being reworked into something of quality - The Silence Divine and the aforementioned Aether of Night fall into this category.  (You can tell they're almost canon because they've had references in canon books - Khriss mentions Ashyn and a major opening setpiece of the unpublished manuscript in Arcanum Unbounded, for example) A third category exists of things that are not canon yet but things within them have been excised and used in other books - The Shattered Plains from Stormlight Archive used to be in an early draft of Dragonsteel, for instance, as did the swapped sisters subplot from Mythwalker (which later evolved into the main plot of Warbreaker).

Short answer: All of them?  :huh:I admit to a bit of confusion regarding the question.  Known unpublished works available to us the fanbase include:

    • Liar of Partinel
    • White Sand Prime
    • Mythwalker
    • Way of Kings Prime
    • The Silence Divine
    • Aether of Night

@Landis963 You missed Lightweaver of Rens (Liar of Partinel #2), and Lord Mastrell (White Sand #2)

  6. Ok guys, I know I talk a lot about Lashing, about half of mi posts in the Shard are about that, but it's just that I'm fascinated by this kind of investiture, Stormlight's magic system is my favorite out of all of the ones I have seen. Now to the question, in the prologue of WoR, we saw Jasnah enter Shadesmar, in there, if I recall correctly, she saw that Gavilar's palace is seen as just one thing in Shadesmar, I guess that means that the entire palace can be Invested. Does that mean that a Skybreaker or a Windrunner powerful enough could destroy the palace by lashing it to a side?

I don't fully understand this sentiment. Apps should have some features that make them deeper and better integrated than a mobile page is. However, 17S now uses a responsive design, and every feature on the desktop site that you could need is on the mobile version. That means that feature wise the site is set.

Notifications would be basically the only benefit, and that's marginal at best. After all you can have email notifications in a very customizable fashion, which naturally you'd get on your phone anyway.

Let me walk you through what I'd need to do for an app, because if I were to do this ever, I would want it done properly. That would mean I'd want an Android app and iOS and each of their UIs would need to be well designed for their platforms. I'd also need to go through the arcane lore of figuring out how the Invision APIs work, which I thankfully have not needed to deal with yet. I'd also need to acquire iOS devices and learn everything about it, as I'm an Android person. Oh, then I'd have to learn how to code apps. Yes, I suppose I could hire someone, but that's very expensive and we already make negative money on this site. Good app developers are pricey. Maybe someone would volunteer to make one.

But I honestly wouldn't take them up on that offer. It's quite simple: it's not just making the app, but constant maintaining of the app. I have a difficult time just keeping the web version of 17S up to date. In a scheme with apps, you'd need to keep up with best practices of Android and iOS apps. Those standards are frequently updated, so that's more dev time and a lot of testing. Even more importantly, such a scheme is totally dependent on Invision Power Suite to operate. If I do site updates, would the apps break? More testing, more time to spend. Also, bugs become much more difficult to deal with as now there are essentially three versions of the site. This sounds terrifyingly awful to deal with.

So I mean I'm happy to hear a good argument for an app but it has to be really good. The benefits are barely anything, so considering all that colossal work, it seems not worth it at all. I'd much rather spend the limited time I have on 17S/Brandon stuff on writing news articles for the site, working on the Coppermind, and keeping our one version of the site up to date. Oh, and then administration of the site and dealing with problem members. Maybe someday I'd have time to do theorizing too! But I am insanely busy.

Sorry, didn't imagine it was that hard and expensive to make.

Keep in mind that BoM happens after the first Stormlight quintet (and probably after the second too), so for all we know, Hoid has already achieved that goal by then and has moved on to something else.

Well, Coppermind says that the Wax and Wayne novels take place between Stormlight 5 and Stormlight 6, and I'm guessing Odium is the Bad Guy in Stormlight, so I don't think Odium is being defeated in the half of the series, it would be a waste of the character.

  10. Ok, guys, so, as many of us should know, Hoid wrote the letter in TWoK (I know it's not officially confirmed, but come on, we all now he did), in which he states that he wants to stop Rayse/Odium, which leads us to believe that Hoid's ultimate goal is to stop Odium. Now, in BoM, Hoid gives the metalmind to Wax, basically telling him that Kelsier is still around somewhere. This leads into my question, how would that help Hoid achieve his goal?

Hmm, that makes me wonder how the process of passing to the Beyond looks on Roshar.  Obviously Honor isn't meeting people on the way, but his Cognitive Shadow (the Stormfather) perhaps could, or Cultivation (or Odium, but I expect that would be tougher for him, and he wouldn't care except to torture people).  Does a Radiant's spren get to meet them before they pass on, in Shadesmar?  It wouldn't necessarily be a new experience to meet them there, depending on the order, but that would make for a rather bittersweet farewell scene.  I kinda want to see that in one of the books now.

Maybe its like seons on Sel, who knows, but I'm sure we'll see it in the books sooner or later

This is... weird. You're the second person to ask me this in the last week.

I'll give a more in depth response soon but what purpose would an app have over the mobile site? What benefits does that have?

Yeah, It's not absolutely necessary, but it would be nice. If it's just too much work for you then that's Ok.

So, apologies if this was already discussed elsewhere and I missed it, but...

In Edgedancer, Wyndle mentions 'Keenspren' briefly, with the implication that they are difficult to understand. I was wondering if anyone who read a non-English version might know if the concept for them is keen as in clever, keen as in literally sharp, or keen as in the sound (a wail).

Right now, there's nothing to do but to wait, they haven't translated Edgedancer, I'm sure that will take some time. Sorry:(

It's actually been made! It consists of "I am a stick" written 72 times. I'll try to find the link.

EDIT: I can't get to it because my phone's spazzing out, but find the "Deleted Scenes" section of Brandon's website and it's there. On a side note, here's the Coppermind article.

My dreams have come true. Now, if we could get Brandon to write a "400K word monstrosity" with the "I am a stick" sentence all over it... That would be a bestseller, not WoK, not WoR, but IAAS(I am a Stick)

Greetings, Beings and Denizens of Earth. It is a pleasure to introduce myself to this forum. I am proud to join those of our species that choose to read real books about magic and not fantasy novels about dogs that die and the "Great Depression".

Welcome, my fellow nerd! I hope you like this community as much as I do. As a reward for not writing the word Ookla or anything related to it in your username, and entering this amazing society, you will receive a cookie!

  16. By the ending of WoR, I had a lot of favorite characters: Dalinar, Szeth, Kaladin, Adolin, Jasnah, and many more, but there was one character that stood out, and I think all of you agree when I say the Stick is the best character in Stormlight. Now, to the question, I am very intrigued by this character, and I just wanted to know if you would like for the Stick to become a main character in the series. If many of you say it's a good idea, I will make everything I can to suggest Brandon to make the Stick a main PoV character.

(Please, do not take this seriously)
