Which is likely the longest chapter of 1-10. It was 80+ pgs in my tpb edition.
I have the same edition. Worth every page turn! I'm super excited now for Reaper's Gale since I found that hardcover at the thrift store on Friday.
SpoilerHellian conquering Lether one tavern at a time is going to be good. Plus Beak!

Just finished Fall of Light. For all my expectation that it would be a bit of a slog, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The first two books are frustrating and devastating, but moreso in the story they tell than in the telling. Anyone who's on the fence about reading it, I recommend giving it a go. Looking forward to Walk in Shadow, though admittedly not as much as Toblakai.
That's promising to hear. I have them already, just waiting for my 2nd readong of the main series and then I'm going to start them. About halfway through Bonehunters right now. I finished Chapter 7 and then turned around and read it again.
SpoilerChapter 7 is Y'Ghatan

Hmm, then maybe "I exchanged for food." Would work more. You're not saying "I exchanged food" Because your not giving food for food, but saying "I exchanged for food" would work better I think. Saying you ordered food, and on the flip-side saying you served some food creates two types of people: The orderers and servers, which gives a lot of assumption over who's superior. We should all say "I exchanged for food" instead.
Server and orderer doesn't imply a superiority at all. Their business is to provide a service. That service is gained in exchange for something of value; generally currency. You order what you want from a list of options that they are providing, then they fulfill the order as agreed upon.

When we say "I ordered food" we dont really notice we use the word 'ordered', which is pretty much like the word 'demanded' except no one says "i demanded food" because thats being a spoiled brat but we say "i ordered food" like its better because we know we will get it eventually. We do it to make it sound like we are superior to the person giving us food, or maybe thats how it started. Anway, we should all say "i requested some food" it works much nicer. Just a random thought
The act of requesting something be served is called an order
Order

request (something) to be made, supplied, or served.1 -
Whoa! Banner day at my local thrift shop. Grabbed The Expanse 1-7 in a mix of TPB and Hardcover plus Reaper's Gale by Erikson in Hardcover for the grand total of $23.75.

"More tea, and less angst."
Quotable quotes from Gothos.
"I greet you as guests, and so I will not crush the life from you and devour your souls with peals of laughter. No, instead I will make some tea."
Memories of Ice & Bonehunters spoilers :
SpoilerKallor agrees to the position of King of Chains on the condition that CG give him an "opportunity" with a vulnerable Silverfox.
When Whiskeyjack's bad leg went out, was that the CG acting through his injury?
The thought just occurred to me with Gethol's appearance to Tene Baralta after he was burned at Y'Ghatan.
I love the double meanings behind almost everything:
"And what so spurred their zeal?"
"Vengeance, of course. And Anomandaris."

"You are Leoman of the Feathers, and it shall be as you say."

Just from that preview, I'm going to love FoD! Starting on the last 50 pages of Midnight Tides right now.
SpoilerIs Therudas Buhn, whom Bugg banishes to his warren, the dead Edur found on the beach in MoI?
I flipped a coin tonight to see if I was going to move on to Bonehunters or FoD. The Lady's pull has put me back in Seven Cities!

RotCG is my favorite Esslemont outside Path to Ascendancy. I hope it goes smoother for you when you start back up again.

I'm interested in seeing the next step in progression for the cloaks.
We've gone from Mistcloak to Mistcoat, what would the 1980's version be? Mistsuit?
I'm going with Mistglam. Think Cinderella or Bon Jovi circa 86'. Almost all their pants have tassels, lol.

When you start comparing games and stories to Cosmere right away. I am currently playing Ni No Kuni 2.
You have swords that you summon, elemental 'definitely not spren', "Higher spren" that can be bonded with.
Theres more but i'd be worried about spoiling both it and cosmere stuff.
I know what you mean. I played FFXV after reading TWoK and as far as I was concerned, the weapons were shardblades.

I really want to read that trilogy about Andii people! Andii are my favorite nation and also I would love to read more about Cotillion if it is somewhere in those other books.
Path to Ascendancy is going to be good for you I think. Dancer's Lament especially.

Good to know that I will enjoy it. I admit so far I enjoyed Memories of Ice a lot because I like Whiskeyjack realtionship with Rake and Deadhouse Gates because I was a big fan to Coltaine.
Indeed! Those two are so good and get the story really rolling along. It blows my my mind that
SpoilerWhiskeyjack wrecking his knee in a one off sentence during Gardens of the Moon, and then not letting Mallet fix it for 1600 pages, led to it buckling during his fight with Kallor.
Are you planning on reading the Esslemont books along with the main series? I believe that they kick in chronologically after Bonehunters iirc. I didn't the first time, but I think I might try it this time.

Nice. I'm on my 2nd time right now, about 1/4 through Midnight Tides. Bonehunters is what I'm most looking forward to.

@Yvainnie Is this your first read of the series?
Has anyone listened the audio version of Malazan? I'm finding myself in front of my pc more often and could be listening.

But I admit that first few chapters of Midnight Tides were tough to read.
Indeed! They are quite grim until you start getting more Tehol and Bugg in the mix more often.

@The Thinking Herald I think our worldview at this time is too differing for me to give any additional comment other than to say that I would have been less concerned about who was guilty or not, and more concerned with the outrageous response of the teacher. Any actions I would have taken at that point would have been to spite the abusive authority.

@The Thinking Herald Hm... If you want to think on how you could have handled it differently, I'd suggest that your main error was in allowing that faculty member to put you in the position they did.
It was petty and a tyrant-like move on the teacher to give a student the choice of who to punish.
My personal opinion, and what I would have done in the circumstance would be to refuse the option to "play God." If you are worried at all about what those other students think of you, then you should have died on the hill with them. You sold them out, and now you feel guilty. Been there. Decided to never go there again.

House of Chains spoilers
SpoilerAnybody else catch that all the Andii on Drift Avalii are grandchildren of Anomander?
Did anybody else then catch that Pearl is 1/4 Tiste Andii? And that his mother was a white haired halfbreed from Drift Avalii?
Corabb's insane run of the Lady's pull is awesome. I forgot just how lucky he is.
Update: Midnight Tides!

Currently reading House of Chains (Malazan #4) by Steven Erikson. This series is absolutely amazing on a re-read. It's like 2nd day lasagna!

No, but reusable bags are better! Plastic is fine. Paper I hate, but I’ll deal with. But paper and plastic is just stupid. Reusable bags do the same thing infinitely better- and they’re reusable! BAH
Well... Except for the part where the handles rip off and they aren't spill proof. I get the feeling that you work at a grocery store and your only real enmity towards paper bags is that you have to go through the extra step of opening the bag compared to the metal hanger that the plastic ones sit on. I should know cause I worked at the grocery store in HS. I hated paper bags cause they were more time consuming to actually bag groceries in.
Am I close to the mark here?
