While we are on the subject of lashing. We know that Kaladin can lash things in different ways, but what is his 2nd ability? Shallan can light weave and soul cast. Jasnah can soul cast and something else. Jasnah actually says that each order has two surges... (think that's the right term) So far all I've noticed Kaladin doing, is manipulating gravity... Am I over looking his other ability? I thought maybe healing, but Shallan does that too, so it's just a side effect of stormligh... With him being a surgeon, his most fitting 2nd ability would be regrowth. Some sort of healing ability anyway.

Wax,Wayne, Kaladin, and Lopen
DarkJester replied to DarkJester's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yeah sorry. I have them in audio. Makes work go a lot quicker when I can listen to a good book. there. Tried to fix it up a little bit... -
Ok. This question is a spoiler if you haven't finished the first two books. Be warned. That said, I'm curious about Renarin's spren. Time and time again, we are told, even by Sil I believe, that seeing the future is a thing of the void bringers. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that Renarin is doing just that. I'm pretty sure that it was him writing the count down and not Dalinar. He's predicting the end during the ever storm. So on and so forth. So that being said. Has Renarin bonded a void spren?

I don't really know where to put this so I'll try here. Who besides me wants to see a short story featuring Wax, Wayne, Kaladin, and Lopen? I can see Wax and Kal being all stand offish at first with each other, but then working really well together. Wayne and Lopen would go together like peanut butter and jelly. Those two would have us cracking up the whole time. I'd just love to see it. I know the Reckoners aren't in the cosmire, but I could see them as a focal point for bringing them together. They discusse in the reckoners books that more than one epic can have the same powers, but with some slight differences. I don't know how to do the spoiler thing, but spoiler alert if you haven't read steelheart or the other books. Say that another epic has Megan's powers. Very similar at least, but it has a quark. Everything they bring in from another reality, comes from a Sanderson book. They start bringing in baddies from some of Brandon's other works and to help combat the hordes, Megan starts bringing in some of his heros. Suddenly you have Kaladin and Wax thrown into a battlefield with no idea what's going on. You could have Lopen and Wayne and even Syl thrown in as comedy relief. It could be very fun.

Very true.

I don't know that there is a fool proof command. Protect me could go wrong too. It could decide walking is too dangerous after "witnessing" you trip one day. Make you stay in one place for your own protection. It could decide eating is a potential choking hazard. Being a sword, it wouldn't understand the nature of eating. It could decide that anyone around you is a potential threat an therefore, immediately kill anyone within 20 feet of you, wether friend or foe... Kinda hard to beat the bad guy AND get the girl when your sword forces you to go all FF7 Sephiroth on her any time you come near her. Then again, maybe it was just protecting you from a broken heart... Ok. If I were to give a sword a command, I'd go with "Become an extension of my will."

Arcanum Unbounded Tour Thread

At least there is a chance he will go to Florida... I live in West Virginia... No chance whatsoever... -
Ok. I was just wandering what you guys thought the results of this might be. We are told that twin born's dual powers tend to compound in odd ways, sometimes affecting each other in ways that nether power could produce alone. Wax is a "crashes" I've yet to really see him live up to that title... Basically he could reduce his weight and steel push off of something really hard for an extreme burst of speed. As he is readying to hit his target he could increase his weight many times over, essentially turning himself into a massive boulder flying at the speed of a bullet. That's the idea of compounding, but like a double gold that can increase his healing potential to God like proposition, I'm curious about how other powers might play off each other. We know that Wit is holding breath. Enough to get him to the level of perfect pitch at least. We've also seen that he has used stormlight. Both of which are breathed in, heighten a persons natural abilities, and can be invested into objects. How do you think they would play off each other in someone like Wit who has more than one power.

Ok. I have another gem stone related question. I can't remember where in the first book it was but there was a part where after a soul casting, the gem cracked and it was stated that the gem would no longer hold stormlight. Does that mean the gem has been burnt out like a light bulb, because cut stones obviously hold light. It's stated they actually hold light better if they have been cut. So why does a crack in the gem really matter?
-
So for most surges, storm light is just storm light, but this does prove that the gems do actually change the storm light within them to a degree. Basically, power is power for most surges. However the light held in a ruby would have to be different than the light in a garnet. Otherwise it wouldn't mater what you use to soulcast. Now... this being said, I understand that Kaladin can use any storm light, but I wander if he will find that he has an affinity to certain gems. Perhaps he may get more of a boost from sapphires than he does from emeralds. Perhaps in the right mixture, say 2/3 emerald light and 1/3 ruby light, he may gain access to a new ability he can't normally do. Just spitballing ideas. There's no proof of anything like that that I know of, but just wandering what you guys thought. Could it happen? I'm sure it's possible. Will it happen? Who knows.

Ok. I was listening to TWOK again and I got to the part where Shalan was poisoned and Jasnah asked for a garnet. I was under the impression that in order to soul cast, she just needed Storm light. If that's the case, wouldn't any gem have worked? Why then did she specifically ask for a garnet? Does this mean that gems are like metals in allomancy? Each gem has its own attribute? This may have been explained already, and I just didn't notice, but am I right?

Wish I could see it. Every time I click on the link it just brings me back to this page again.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DarkJester replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
*In a booming voice* Enough!! You have kept me waiting for over 24 hours and still you have not made your request. I, The Nightwatcher, am not accustomed to being forced to wait... Due to your insolence, I will choose for you, and I choose for you to understand just how small and insignificant you are! I grant you possession of each and every one of the shards, one at a time! *Time and time again you feel emence, distinct, powers flow into and become part of you, only to be replaced by a different power. Power to create, and power to destroy. One by one they enter you, and one by one they leave you, returning to their current holders. You fall to the ground, overwhelmed and exhausted from the experience.* Your blessing shall be your bane mortal!! You shall live the rest of your life knowing what power truly is and just how weak and insignificant you are in the grand scheme of things. Live your life knowing what it is to trifle with one such as I! Ok. That was kinda fun. Speaking of fun... My wish is for everyone to watch Brandon's reading from the next book. His reading of Dalinar's past was beyond awesome! -
Holy crap!!! I love Dalinar so much after this!!! I always liked Kaladin, even though he's a bit too depressed at times, but young Dalinar is just freaking AWSOME!!!

I did not know that. I thought it was a spren, like the ones that leave great shells when they die. Good point too on Shallan. I didn't think about that and your right. She had pattern before her mother died.

Granted. You are now an honorary Edgedancer. Your bane though is that your power only works while no one is watching, therefore no one will ever believe you... As for my request... Ummm... Let's see. I want a... No... How about... Hmmmm... No that won't do. Come on... Think, think, think... Man I wish I knew what to wish for... 0.0! -
It's possible... There was the old shoe store clerk. Don't remember his name right now, but he delivered poison to some woman in a bottle of wine and felt guilty about it. I'm having trouble thinking of others right now, but it's possible. Of course there is the girl that got the Spren after throwing herself off the "island". Again, I can't think of her name. She hasn't killed anyone or been around death that I know of, unless they would consider her nearly killing herself on accident to be close enough...

Personally, I think we will see him committing greater and greater atrocities, all in the name of good. I'm sure he will have a run in with Kalodin, but as far as Kalodin beating him down like he/we want, he's going to have to confront him with the wrong he's doing. He may even be forced by Sil to protect him, from Szeth there to Judge his actions, or perhaps he may have to protect him from his own choices. Ultimately, I believe Amaram will become a catalyst for Kal to reach a new level. If I'm not mistaken, he still has more words to speak...

Granted. You now have chouta with shells and cremling claws. For your bane, all of your senses get swapped with each other. You now see with your tongue, hear with your nose, feel with your ears, smell with your eyes, and taste with your skin...All of your skin... For my wish, I ask for a life time supply of pop cycles.
