Ok. I was listening to WoR again, and something caught my attention this time I've missed before. Was Helaran a surge binder? I was listening to the section where Taravangian had just had a run in with Szeth and learned about Dalinar's "radiant." Taravangian is contemplating the situation and he's talking about the fact that Jasnah was a surge binder and that he thought that Shalan was one. He went on to contemplate that Jasnah had trained her already or that perhaps her brother had trained her before he died. To me, this implies that Helaran was actually a surge binder, and not just a shard bearer... Is that right, and if so, what order? I mean if he was a surge binder, it suddenly makes more sense for Hoid to be knowledgeable of him...

I used to play. Been a while, but I saw a set with Noble knights that seemed to fit Dalinar. It had special swords in it as well that would be like Adolin/Dalinar giving all those shards to their high ranking officers.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DarkJester replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Hands you a key chain with a button on it. Every time you press the button it emits an evil little cackle. Your bane is that you have now shrunk and become a real life chibi version of yourself and you constantly have anime fans following you everywhere in groups wanting to pinch your cheeks. I wish for an up vote... -
Welcome fellow audiobook listener. I'm allowed to listen to a headset at work so I tend to invest in audiobooks and listen to them while I work. Makes for a much more interesting day. Glad to have you.

A high Blizzard?! Holy crap that would suck... No school for 3 months though... A high blizzard would be bad enough, but then there's the ever storm now... The implications are just too scary. I agree with what they are saying about the seasons, but still. If that did happen...

Ok. We know that Lopen has way too many cousins. "You can never have too many cousins gon. " -__- Anyway... Lopen apparently has a seemingly endless supply of cousins. I was just thinking about this. I'd like to see Kaladin and Lopin become world hoppers. (Mainly to see Kal, Lopin, Wax, and Wayne all work together...) The thought that struck me funny though was what if Lopin had cousins on other worlds. Here he and Kaladin are on some other planet; Kaladin has just woken up, and there by the camp fire sits Lopen and a complete stranger. Kaladin is immediately on guard, but Lopen's just like "Nah gon. This here's my cousin." Kaladin is just like, "Lopen, we're on a completely different world." Lopen just shrugs and is like "You can never have too many cousins..."

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DarkJester replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
"You have the nerve to ask two boons of the night watcher? Two!? Fine... I am feeling generous today..." The Nightwatcher cackles and waves a whispy hand. The scenery changes and you find yourself elevated and hanging off the front of a beautiful new mansion. Your new mansion. Your arms and legs are bound to the building by a billion dollars worth of precious metals and gems. You find that you have become a figure head for your new mansion. The Nightwatcher floats up in front of you. "You have your mansion and your wealth. You have received your first boon, and now you shall receive your bane. Your senses shall all grow 100 times stronger. You shall see better, smell better, hear better, taste better, (Nightwatcher chuckles at this.) and feel more intense than any mortal has ever known. Now for your second boon... You shall have it." Nightwatcher lays a cold hand on your chest. Do to your inhanced senses, it feels as if you've been touched by the grave itself. "You are now immortal. No physical wound shall be able to kill you. You will not age. You shall forever be as you are right now. As for your bane. You shall be devoured each day by birds and rodents. All manner of forest creatures and various insects. They shall consume your flesh every day: however, being immortal, your flesh will re knit every night making you whole again. With your increased sences, you will feel each bite, 100 fold. You will hear the flesh being ripped from your body. You will smell and taste the blood and bile 100 times more intensely. All while you see every little detail of what's happening to you. Enjoy..." The Nightwatcher begins to fade from your view. I wish for a burrito. -
I doubt it would work, but I'd have to give it a try. "Heal, don't kill." I'd basically be attempting to turn it into Wound Healer from the Books of Swords series by Fred Saberhagen.

Really? I didn't know that but looking back and thinking about it I would have to agree... he would have had to be around to creat the vision of the day of recreance that Dalinar saw... so yeah... makes sense... just never thought about it.

Yeah. It's not likely, but I like the idea. Cultivation saw that Honor was about to loose, so she decided to shatter him in order to "cultivate" a large number of warriors bearing the power of Honor. It's a neat idea.

You Know You've Read Elantris When...

When you go through your kids backpack and for some odd reason you find some candy corn, and your first thought is "Oh! The grain offering." -
I'd have to go with the armor. It just gives you room for a learning curve that a sword just doesn't... Honestly, when it comes to the sword, I wander how many people were like man I wander just how sharp this thing actually is and touched their finger to the blade like some people do with a regular knife, only to pull back fingers that were completely dead at the tips. I'm sure there are bound to be a few and I doubt there would be records of it because who wants to admit to being the storming fool that slayed their own fingers...

I want to see stick get invested to the point he can fight against full shard bearers. Then the person that's wielding him needs to constantly come up with creative ways to use him. Oh wow. This thing makes. Great fishing pole. "I am a stick." Wow. Add a little rope and this thing makes a great grappling hook. "I am a stick..." That's... Quite the weapon you have there... It managed to block my shard blade... "I am a stick!!!"

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DarkJester replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted! Your bones and your flesh begin to shrink. Your clothes grow baggy and your feet grow hairy. You suddenly have a longing for second breakfast as well. Your bane is that inevitably, everything you want or need is just slightly above your reach, so you're constantly needing a step stool. I wish for the power to make people strike embarrassing poses without them knowing I did it to them. -
Hoid vs Stick sold me. I don't care what else is in the game, so long as there is a section that is Hoid vs Stick! I'd love to see a debate between them...

What was your favorite part in sandersons books?

Kelsier vs the inquisitor was magnificent! You finally got to see the full extent of a mistborn, and it was amazing. And then it was amazingly sad...- 18 replies

What was your favorite part in sandersons books?
DarkJester replied to Jude's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Honestly, my favorite moment happened outside of the Sanderson books. I had read quite a few of his books and had been thinking about the fact that even though they went about it in different ways, many of Brandon's characters were similar in their powers. At which point I started thinking how cool it would be if the characters from different books could actually team up like the heros in comics do from time to time. I'd had that thought for a while and it was about that time I first saw this forum and got to reading about world hoppers. I had to go back and listen to my audiobooks again. It hit me at that point that Brandon was way ahead of me and had been setting these books up for just such an interaction. Finding characters that shouldn't be there has become one of my favorite hobbies. Finding a character that is a world hopper without being told about them is a big thrill. Reading Bands of Mourning, and getting to the part where the people all wear masks, and realizing that I've seen this in another Sanderson book. That one was fairly obvious, along with a few others. I can't believe I didn't catch the big one from Warbreaker my first time through. Left me feeling kinda dumb... Anyway, my favorite part of a Sanderson book is finding all the hidden nuggets. It just adds a depth that a lot of other books are missing.- 18 replies

Who is your favorate charactor from any book.
DarkJester replied to Jude's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I forgot about Wayne! Wayne is a great character. I love Kaladin, but if I could hang out with one Sanderson character for a day, it would have to be Wayne. Guaranteed to be the most fun you've had in ages. -

Kaladin has always been my favorite. Dalinar from the past was pretty amazing too. -
That's a very good point. I wander if that will play into things. The diagram is very accurate. Although there are some things that differ ever so slightly. In the case of the Radiants though, the Diagram seemed to keep their attention everywhere but where it needed to be...
