Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions
Mint11 replied to Zillah's topic in Sanderson Elimination
To be honest, it was a very "I have to vote on someone fast" decision because I thought the cycle ended the next day since I messed up the time conversion. I had village reads on you and Kynedath, so those options were out. It's harder for me to explain why I chose to vote on Mist over Vapor. Vapor's posts just seemed very similar to how his posts always are, but to be honest, it was mostly gut read. I didn't have much time to look into it. -
Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions

I voted on Mist because they were the best choice among the current lynch candidates, and I wanted to vote on a current lynch candidate to see how vote patterns would shift. Voting on a new player at that point in the cycle wouldn't have been much of a threat and votes without much teeth don't prompt much action, which doesn't give us any hints on who the elims are. I don't think it was suspicious. I thought it was strange and I couldn't think of a reason for it early in D1 since there wasn't any way that TJ could have had secret information. I did have a slight dislike of the approach. Reasoning behind reads is what drives thread discussion and, consequently, what eventually reveals who the elims are. But if TJ feels that keeping it to himself is best so that he can keep an eye on Sart, that's valid. I'll just respectfully disagree. I'm having trouble getting elim reads, which isn't surprising for me in early game. Reading Ash more as village, for being direct and straightforward of their suspicion of a villager (i.e. me). Especially since he doesn't have a longer list of suspicions he can "hide" behind. -

This is from a very early D1 post so it's... odd. Not suspicious, just odd. I'm surprised there hasn't been more commentary on it. TJ, I'm wondering if maybe you'd be willing to reveal the reason for your vote at this point? Maybe you're planning on revealing it next turn. I'm feeling pretty good about Kyne and Matrim so far. I also don't see any reason to lynch Vapor. Elandera seems to be pushing some buttons which gives me village vibes, even if she did vote on one of my other village reads. I could vote on a new lynch target but I don't really have anyone I want to vote on. So I'll add a vote to Mist and see what happens, although I suspect Sart might remove their vote on Mist since Mist placed a vote. -
Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions

Sorry guys, I just realized the cycle ends in less than an hour... half an hour ago. @Elandera @Vapor I'm not sure if my post will convince Elandera to remove their vote on me, but hello, I'm here and would like to not die. Also speaking more generally, I like contribution crusades but I don't see any value in them on D1. It tells us even less than D1 lynches normally do. I'm going to go through the thread to see if I can pick someone to vote on, mostly for the sake of self preservation TBH. -

Should I sign up for another game? Questionable. Will I sign up for this LG? Yes, yes I will. -
I was right about my elim suspect!? Woohoo! First time for everything @TJ Shade Yup, I was a vote scanner. I also had the ability to to learn other people's abilities which is how I knew Elandera's vote didn't count. @Ashbringer I think I already used my ability scanning action during the day and the only night action available to me was vote scanning the Straw vote, which wouldn't have given more info? Either that or I forgot
-
Not necessarily an elim hammer. It's just that we have a tie and things have been pretty quiet since yesterday. One could almost say it's too quiet. I'm very curious about what information you have on me because I can't think of what I've done that would incriminate me as an elim. But I'm sure I'll find out. The thing is, minus whatever that is, all of this sounds like extreme conjecture. There could be so many ways I could know that "Vapor vanish" is a myth. Why would you assume I'm a village vote manipulator? And if I am a village vote manipulator, why would it be suspicious to not share that with the thread? I disagree that a vote manipulator not sharing their role with the thread makes them more likely to be an elim. I'll be honest Ash, this feels a lot like trying to pull information out of me that the elims can use, though the fact that you've stated you have information on me makes that less likely. I won't be sharing anymore information, regardless of the pressure I receive.
-
I'm pretty suspicious that we're gonna get a hammer, but current vote count: Matrim (2): TJ Shade, Mint Lahilt (2): Matrim, Araris Ashbringer (2): Kas, Lahilt Mint (1): Ash I... didn't realize we had a three way tie. Feel free to double check my counts, I'm notorious for getting them wrong, but I checked this one a bunch of times. I've barely offered any information on Vapor. I just said that one vote disappearance didn't have to do with Vapor. I'm not sure how that's dangerous information for the elims to have. I'm also unsure as to how it connects with my motives for not voting on Straw, which had nothing to do with my role or any information I had. This seems like a fair enough amount of evidence to vote on someone if it was D2, but given the amount of reasoning we currently have behind other elim suspects, I'm surprised that you're voting on me based on this. It makes me feel more suspicious of you, but I wonder if that's just me being biased because you're voting on me. I'll have to keep an eye on it.
-
So I can confirm that for at least one of the "Vapor vanish" lynches, Vapor had nothing to do with the vote count change. Not going to say much more in thread.
-
Sticking with the reasoning I provided last cycle, Matrim. Given this post, if either you or Matrim turn out to be elim, I'll be more suspicious of the other. It's interesting that you vote on the alternative to Matrim as soon a vote on another player presents itself (not counting Matrim's vote on Lahilt here because if both Matrim and Elandera are elims, I feel like Elandera wouldn't follow Matrim's vote for the sake of distancing). Given how there was no pushback to the Straw lynch, I think it's likely that the elims simply decided to bus Straw, so at least one of the early Straw votes is probably from the elim team. Note that doesn't end up meaning much in terms of my suspicions, they basically remain the same. Illwei was a very early voter and I still don't trust him. Araris also voted relatively early, time-wise, and I'm still suspicious of him as well. I haven't been particularly suspicious of Lahilt. I'll have to go back and look at his posts.
-
I'd personally discourage posting results like this in the thread.
-
No, I didn't. Like I said, I wanted to avoid having a single lynch train. I'd also discourage asking questions like this in thread. I know a lot of people have revealed their abilities but I wouldn't ask others to. @The_God_King Are PM's still closed?
-
Y'all... I know Kas is as confirmed village as someone could be at this point but that doesn't mean he's always right. His reasoning is good and he's experienced, granted, but please use your own judgments. Also, Kas is likely high on the elims kill list and we need to be able to survive without him.
-
The fact that Straw hasn't said more in his defense makes me more uneasy about the lynch, not less.
-
I absolutely believe that village!Illwei wasn't attempting to to defend Devotary. The problem is I don't know if we're dealing with elim!Illwei or village!Illwei. Your post isn't proof that you're an elim, it's just a plausible thing for an elim to do. Based on this thread, it seems very unlikely that Matrim and Araris are both elims which makes me think I should get more elim reads... If Straw ends up being an elim, I'd also like to add Elandera to my village reads since hesitating against both Straw's and Devotary's lynches seems a bit too on the nose for elim!Elandera. In the interest of not having a single train, I'd like to propose Matrim as an alternative lynch candidate. Unfortunately this is mostly a gut read, like I've mentioned, but I can't shake the bad feeling I'm getting from him and he's my strongest suspicion (am I more suspicious of him than Straw? hard to say, it's very strange that no one's tried to defend Straw). Even if I'm wrong, how the votes play out will be very useful information to have later, although I have no doubt it's going to cause a lot of suspicion towards me. Hopefully I didn't post this too late for it to make a difference but we've got a few hours left. Edit: Not sure if I need to do this but Straw

Village reads: TJ Shade: voted on Devotary early last cycle when Devotary already had two votes on her by Kas Kas: led the Devotary lynch with Sart Ash: not a strong read. I almost marked him as null but if I had to choose, I'd say village. I guess his posts have been helpful to the village but I don't know how good he is at manipulation yet Striker: also not a strong read but did vote for Devotary earlier than elim!Striker "had to" (when Devotary's lynch was just picking up steam but before Sart and Kas claimed) Vapor: asked for a tl;dr after the Devotary lynch was decided. It seems unlikely that elim!Vapor wouldn't know that a teammate was about to die and he could've asked for a summary in the elim doc Lotus: tbh I wasn't really sure about them, but I was convinced by Sart's N3 logic. Also looking back, interesting that Straw and Matrim tried to lynch Lotus last cycle. Sart's logic: Elim reads: Araris: ignored Kas' long post arguing for Devotary's lynch when he posted his reads (this was before Kas or Sart claimed) Matrim: mostly a gut read but I'll also note that they tried to defend Devotary but did so very mildly (to avoid suspicion perhaps?): Illwei: also tentatively defends Devotary (after Sart and Kas claim): Reads are a lot more fun after an elim dies

Shard ate my post and I'm not rewriting it this late. Will post tomorrow. Voting on Straw for now.

The kill Mint was working on labeling samples when she heard the shouting. It was late and most of the others were in bed. Dr.Gears, as it turned out, was dead. There was a lot of blood. But no one knew whose it was. Vote manip commentary Mint was *tired*. Her fellow interns were worse than she realized. She'd eagerly take whatever work the supervisors gave her, but she wasn't about to start traveling in groups of three, as if her colleagues who had been so fickle to their work could be relied on in a fight. Even when it came to deciding which one to kick off the project, a struggle in and of itself, something was always... off. Somehow the counts got muddled up between the voting and the tallying of votes. Even Mint could understand manipulating the votes for the sake of self-preservation (it seemed that these slackers were much more interested in sticking around now that the samples started giving off strange side effects). But she couldn't accept others doing it anymore. There was so much manipulation that it made figuring out who to trust almost impossible. Votes were a sure way for them to find the saboteurs. People could say and do a lot of things but who they opted to kick out of the project was the true test. They couldn't take it back. But alas, that didn't seem to be true. They *could* take it back. They could say whatever they wanted, vote on whoever they wanted, and when the night came, they could steal back their vote somehow and come for the kill. It was a facade that only dropped when no one was watching. She knew that some might point fingers at her for changing her stance but so be it. What was research and science, if not simply changing your mind in the light of new evidence? The strange vote counts, Mint realized, couldn't be ignored. A single anomaly for a single vote, yes. But this? This wouldn't do. Mint mused that she might even start voting on anyone who was caught in messing with the tally going forward. The Devotary lynch Now a number of interns seemed ready to kick Liba [Devotary] off the project. As eloquent as Maris [Kas] was, Mint didn't think his reasoning was particularly damning. She wasn't compelled to join those pointing their fingers at Liba, at least until Thomas revealed that he had followed Liba last night and saw her kill Dr.Gears. Now Maris claimed that staked out Liba's room last night as well. Part of her was worried that Liba was being unfairly accused, that it was all a coincidence, but in a way, Mint was also relieved. There couldn't be enough manipulation to undo Liba being kicked off now, not with so many speaking out against her. I love analysis in RP but I know it can be hard to follow, so I tried to make this easier to read. Valid but I'd encourage you to not let this influence your voting (I know it's not your only reason for keeping your vote on Devotary but just wanted to point that out). I know I should post some reads and I will... try to get on that. Gears was my strongest suspicion reading through old threads so uh, I'll get back to you. I have a village read on Kas but my level of trust has risen to the point where I'm maybe suspicious again? It's probably just some healthy paranoia.

Uh, so it's been a crazy week with the power outage and then the wifi outage and moving my sister to Virginia and I may have completely forgotten about the game. Working on getting caught up.
-
Apparently my dad has a solar powered charger, so I'm back. @TJ Shade I disagree that the vote manipulation must be by the elims. It could be a self preservation manip (I think some people have mentioned this), manip that were intended to widen margins (to be safe), and it could also be a manip to see how others react. A village manipulator might also be interested in letting the village know that one exists. Anyways, since it's possible the elims used vote manipulation to cause mislynches, I suggest we don't look too much into it for now and focus on post analysis.

Just came on to say our electricity is out and I won't be back until it comes back on. Don't know when that will be.

Apparently I forgot to give myself a name for this game. I'll play as Mint so it doesn't get confusing. Mint tried to label her samples without getting distracted by her thoughts. It wasn't going very well. It wasn't long after she got here that she knew the other interns simply weren't cut out for the work they were doing. Always complaining about the work. How tedious it got. How they should be getting paid. Their ingratitude was nauseating. She would even call it unloyal. Mint, on the other hand, couldn't imagine anything better than being able to contribute to this research. And for free, no less! She kept herself immersed in it, happily taking on any work the supervisors deemed her worthy of. It's what kept her sane when she'd overhear others going on about how badly work was going. It was a good strategy and sustained her happiness, however delicately. She was even more delighted when the supervisors announced that one of the interns needed to be kicked off the project. Just as it should be, she thought. I knew this was a slothful group, but who would go as far as to steal? Imagine how quickly her delight came crashing down when Marius accused her of being the one who had been stealing. Her! The most dedicated of all of them! She heard him sighing as he worked, she knew he wasn't as devoted to this internship as she was. In fact, she could even say that he was pointing fingers to keep the attention off himself. No... no, Marius wasn't the one who had done this. He didn't have the same zeal as she, but who did? Lord-son-...-Silberfarben proposed that all of them should claim to know another's role on this project. She didn't think it was as crazy as the others, if someone did know everyone's roles, all they learn would be known should they get booted from the project. But Mint did suppose the cons outweighed the pros. It might quickly reveal who truly had this ability to more... unsavory characters, what with the secret sabotage. Either way, Mint didn't think Lord-son-...-Silberfarben would go as far as theft. Illwei said something strange about being a research intern. Why did he so easily reveal the tasks the supervisors had given him? Plus, he once made that comment about how Mint needed to "relax" and "take a break from the long hours, sleep deprivation is bad." Bah. What did he know.

I'm dead so I guess I can sign up for this now.

@TJ Shade Thanks for clarifying. I agree for the most part. I don't want to lynch a Cultist at this point in the game and risk hitting the Korathi Cultist. I'm wondering if it's in our interest for all the Cultists in the Jeskeri doc to die. That would lead to two possible scenarios: (1) The JP's aren't sure how many Cultists there are, so they might believe that there are more remaining in their doc. So they kill a couple of extra JP's on accident. Good for us. (2) The JP's, at some point, reasonably deduce that they have killed all the Cultists in their doc, forcing their attention onto the main lynch. At that point, this basically becomes much more similar to a standard game. The Practioners' goal will be much more focused, so their analyses and voting trends will provide more direct hints. No, but we could lose control of the vote and the lynch if the Korathi's only weapon. I can't believe I laughed at this. I'd like to believe my posts having a similar tone means I've gotten better at SE. On the whole, I wouldn't want people to distinguish between village!Mint and elim!Mint so easily. In terms of the PM, it did occur to me that I could just put those comments in thread, but I've been wanting to use PM's more and I'm still trying to figure out how PM's could best be utilized. I only remember one game I played that involved a lot of PMing but it had a very different setup. Right now our top lynch candidates are Pyro and TJ, neither of whom I want to lynch. This is my read as well. I'd rather not lynch Pyro this cycle. I've got a null read on them so far. And someone (forget who, I think it was TJ?) mentioned above that it's best to let the JP's debate on whether or not they should kill Pyro. TJ's posts make me feel suspicious, but TJ's tone always reads elim to me so I think that's just how he plays. So I don't want to lynch Pyro or TJ, and I also don't want a tie. So I'm going to vote for someone else and hope the tie breaks before the end of the cycle. I'd also rather not put a single vote on a new lynch candidate because while I like this range better than a train, I think we can get more information from the lynch if it's consolidated between a few players. Haelbarde's vote on Pyro stood out to me as well, I feel like Pyro's strange PMing is a bit too on the nose for it to indicate them being a Practitioner or a Cultist, so I'm surprised at the vote. But there currently aren't any other votes on Hael and I think I've noticed something more intriguing. We've had votes on so many people, I'd be surprised if at least one of them wasn't on a Practitioner. Ties are decided randomly so it's in the Practioners' interest to break it. I'm looking at Lotus and Ashbringer for bringing the vote in closer. Ash has also given herself some flexibility by saying that she might change her vote later which can be convenient if you're watching the vote to make sure the tie stays away from specific players. That's the best D1 reasoning I have. I know I haven't covered many players so I'll do my best to try to post more reads later. @Haelbarde BTW El wants us to bold our votes. Vote Count Pyro (2) - Haelbarde, Lotus TJ (2) - Straw, Ashbringer Ashbringer (2) - Elkanah, Mint Kasimir (1) - Kasimir (????) Elkanah (1) - Drake Straw (1) - Sart Lotus (1) - TJ Frozen Mint (1) - Matrim Matrim (1) - Straw

Disagree but I'm going to reserve my thoughts until I get TJ's answer.
