I need help understanding the Spren's plain of existence
Spoolofwhool replied to Madmoody's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's right. People have different degrees of how much they are in the physical or cognitive realm, up to being entirely within the cognitive realm. -
It's been essentially confirmed by Brandon that the force which opposed Adonalsium was the group of people who became the first vessels.

Yeah, I'll take it as truth. I'm still interested though in what was the basis for the previous responses about hoops and gaining the ability to awaken. Might ask it as a WoB if I ever have the chance.

Anyone remember a WoB talking about a non-Nalthian with breath would have to jump through hoops to awaken?

That's what I thought it said. No matters, still plenty tof think about regarding Vasher being affected by the Everstorm slightly. Probsbly won't come into play though since I doubt his existence as a Returned will be touched on.
-
Interesting. Do you also have a source for the WoB that someone would see an similar afterimage with a Returned?
-
What do you mean by that? When was this implied about Vasher?

Is Breeze A Good Manipulator ... Or Just Full of Air?
Spoolofwhool replied to aeromancer's topic in Mistborn
I disagree overall. Breeze was a manipulator. The difference is that he operated on a much different scope than what your definition encompasses. He was never a revolutionary like Kelsier or Elend. He just wanted a comfortable life, and being there, was willing to help his friends achieve their goals. He did that in more ways than they knew, such as soothing away fear so they would remain steadfast, artificial. I don't see how that isn't manipulation, since as you say, he was changing their thinking, how they viewed things. If he had let their fear rise, then they would've had far less hopeful thoughts. Also, Allrianne wasn't a good manipulator. She just applied a lot of rioting to him. Even if you can say that Breeze wasn't a manipulator, there is no doubt though that he could read people emotionally very effectively, probably far better than Kelsier or Elend. I'm curious as to how you reached the conclusion that he is afraid of using his powers. I never got that feeling from him. I just got more that he wasn't interested in anything past a comfortable life, and his use of his powers reflected that, in moving towards his goals, and helping his friends along the way. I don't understand your Bilg example. That was on Kelsier. Breeze never had any chance of manipulating the man; he only used allomancy to make him more susceptible to Kelsier's orations. Are you saying then that Breeze failed in his use of allomancy? In that case I still don't agree since Breeze wasn't the only allomancer responsible for soothing the people during Kelsier's recruitment nor was the point of the allomancy to convince them; it was just to make them more prone to grasp aspects of the speech through feelings. Finally, your statement that Breeze convinced people feels very incorrect to me. As far as I recall, Kelsier did all the convincing, not Breeze, Breeze just supported, and basically did the same as if you gave people really good food during a speech so that they would think back to the speech when they try the taste again. I'm tired and this is a ramble. I'll fix it in 20 hours.- 11 replies

I wonder what dark secret is in the depths of Urithriu. Perhaps the secret which destroyed the Radiants that Taravangian learned?

What do you mean the royal locks need a connection to the First Returned? Are you referring to the fact that all those who possess are descended from him, or do you mean something more realmatic? In any case, yes, we haven't learned much about the mechanics of Returned or the Royal Locks, though I think it was said that Vo was the only Returned known to have born a child.

Is it possible the being Elantrian is basically the savantism due to the sudden exposure to the Dor, and that the continued stressful life is the result of always being connected to it? I wonder if that means that Elantrians who leave the Aonic continent are less likely to die from stress.

I'm sad now. I'm was looking forward for the Sleepless' next discourse on what was happening.

It's best at making soulstamps because it's rigid, which is also why it's hard to carve. -
What does Honor have to do with this? Also, I don't think Preservation created the prophecies knowing who was the true Hero of Ages. They feel more like guidelines on who Presevation thought should be the Hero of Ages. There were after all many Hero of Ages during the millennia as it was also the person who took up the Well's power to right the world.

None of the Returned are any different than others, I don't think. In any case, if you need to quote something from the book, Brandon has the whole thing on his website.

Although, it would be useful to have breaths because then he would be able to draw Nightblood and have the chances to bond it.

I need help understanding the Spren's plain of existence
Spoolofwhool replied to Madmoody's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes. The cognitive realm is where Shallan and Jasnah go when they're souldbinding. It's also the place Jasnah was slipping into at the start of WoR and where Shallan went near the end of WoK. Yeah, that's a good idea, though I didn't really learn about the Coppermind until after I read all the books. -
I need help understanding the Spren's plain of existence
Spoolofwhool replied to Madmoody's topic in Stormlight Archive
Spren are cognitive entities which exist in the Cognitive Realm, as described by Realmatic theory. Otherwise known as Shadesmar, the Cognitive Realm and its entities are the embodiment of people cognitively view things, along with certain attributes pertinent to the world. On Roshar, in Shadesmar, land is replaced by a sea of beads, while bodies of water are solid. These beads are the cognitive representation of physical objects, and represent how an object views itself (because they do). The seas are regions which represent the continent of Roshar, not sure if they mean anything more than that. That's basically the sum of my understanding of it. There are better people who can explain it. -
I don't see any reason why he would need a constantly flow of investiture and would be like a Returned, unless you're referring to the fact that his cognitive shadow has been artificially stuck back into his body? Returned isn't a phenomenon which occurs as a result of being on Nalthis so I don't see any reason why someone similar to what they are going there would undergo any changes to be more like them. In any case, the only similarities are that they've had their cognitive shadows stuck back into their bodies, though Szeth's was done in a lot poorer of a manner.

The essays were written after Mistborn Era 1 and before First of the Sun as far as I'm aware. I'm not sure when any more precisely. I believe it was said that they were written to around the same time.

It's kind of weird though that the instability of Harmonium would make it unviable for hemalurgy use and dangerous for allomantic or feruchemical use.
-
Except once you alloy the metals you're still ending up with anew alloy of the three metals. Alloying appears to be path independent so having them do different things is to have different metal ratios, which isn't a thing allomantically.
-
Interesting theory. Going to have to think about it. Metal and stone are together the hardest things, and that's explained as because they weren't originally part of living things. I still don't see how that theory works when it's been confirmed that shades are not caused by a shard.
-
At a general view yes, but if you take a deeper look at precisely how strict Preservation is, no. Preservation is about keeping something the same always. Allomancy does that, as its usage always means that a person will not personally change themselves at any given point. On the other hand, feruchemy does, because its usage always requires the direct change of someone's attributes.
