Lerasium's Main Function (& Harmonium Function?)
Spoolofwhool replied to YungDankBlast's topic in Mistborn
@Kingsdaughter613 True, it is weird. I think it is an availability thing. That, or you can steal variations on physical strength depending on which bindpoint you use to charge the spike, unlike allomancy which only has one mode. So steel let's you steal four different powers, but iron lets you steal a number of variation. At the same time you can argue that the four physical allomantic powers are just variations of the same attribute. What you noted about the deviation from the pattern has been address before. I can't remember what the conclusion was though, if any was reached. -
I'll have to check, but I think it's more a feeling of the Investiture flowing rather than an actual temperature shift. Also yes, not really a spoiler, but the the rule exist and it's more about habit. If you get in the habit of casually talk about minor things in the open, then it's more likely you let something major slip than if you're in the habit of keeping everything from another book under spoilers.

They aren't numerous enough to perform that function, but my opinion is that they were created in an effort to obtain to perform that function, only for it to fail. There's a WoB that there were no seons on Sel when Odium was there, and I presume he didn't leave until after they were shattered. Therefore, the conclusion seems to be that they were formed after the splintering.

I don't think they castrate female cattle for any reason. Also, Parshendi neutered genders are a bit more natural than cattle neutered males.
-
Indeed. Also, fun fact, Parsendi have four genders in total. Male, female, neutered male and neutered female.
-
Interesting point. We still don't know whether TLR had children before or after his ascension though. In addition, I would think that those born of him post-ascension would actually have weaker allomantic powers, not stronger ones, because of the interference between the allomantic genes and the feruchemical genes.

Splintering a shard isn't necessary into order for them to develop splinters. However, in the case of Devotion and Seons, we have a WoB that they exist as a sort of investiture release valve for the build-up of power that is the Dor. Also, when Devotion was splintered, there were no seons, so they therefore came into being afterwards, and along with the other WoB I mentioned, likely as a result of the splintering. Also, in general, a shard's power will break down if it remains without a guiding mind. As such, I think splinters will naturally form over time.

The secret behind the Rosharian Gas Giants [Theory]

Consider Brandon is the type of writer who gives hints on the ending of the series at the very start of the series, I don't think he would just left field something this major at this point. With no attention pointed to the gas giants at all at this point, I'm fairly certain that they will not be relevant in the first arc of SA. I'm not discounting their relevance in the second arc however.- 30 replies

Yes, there were other Hero of Ages before Alendi and Vin. They didn't create any lasting impact on the world however, they just used the power of the Well of Ascension as Preservation intended for it to be used and moved on.

Lerasium's Main Function (& Harmonium Function?)
Spoolofwhool replied to YungDankBlast's topic in Mistborn
The inquisitors weren't physically warped past what was required in order to keep them alive past the adding of spike; the chimeras clearly were, and therefore seem to be far more like koloss as hemalurgic creations than inquisitors. Since koloss do require a human non-ability attribute in order to achieve the change they exhibited, I don't see why the chimeras wouldn't either. Don't forget that the groupings are just categories in-Cosmere scholars have created; they aren't actual guidelines for how the metallic arts work. There's not reason why it should be a specific way just to make the groupings fit better. -

Still room for the theory, but it would be stretching the definition of manipulated a bit farther, since there's a lot less room for Odium to have been involved. -
It think the info of form specialization and parshmen breeding is from WoB. I'll take a look. Edit: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1088/#63 They give live birth. Couldn't find something about specializations, but fairly certain it exists.

The oathbinding you mention. Is it a term you've come up with or has it appeared before and I just haven't seen it? If you are making it up, could you explain fully what you mean when you use it? -
Lerasium's Main Function (& Harmonium Function?)
Spoolofwhool replied to YungDankBlast's topic in Mistborn
It's possible. All that I'm fairly sure of is that the attribute used to create them wasn't the ability to use a manifestation of investiture. Edit: just realized my wording got a but mangled at the end implying that I thought it couldn't take a human attribute. That's wrong. I've fixed it. -
Harmony's note to Spook at the end of HoA implied that he had talked to Kelsier since Spook had become a tin Savant so chances are he let slip other things elsewhere.

They're hiding that they're turning glyphs into a language, but other than that I don't think anything major has been indicated. -
Mateform is the form optimized for breeding, but some other forms like slaveform (parshmen) can breed as well. Alethi breed the parshmen.

It's in the annotations. @Yata I believe Vasher changed the name after he killed Shashara.

Trellium was used in all of Bleeder's spikes so f-steel and a-steel. In addition, it was used in the creation of the chimeras, indicating the ability to steal a non-ability attribute as well. -

I forgot about that, but true. Also, there's the fact that the Listeners were able to create an Everstorm which appears to be basically a new highstorm in reverse. Also, I think there was an interesting theory that the highstorm might actually have a center somewhere far north which is stationary, and the storms felt on the continent are just long sweeping arms extending from this origin. @Belzedar If that's the case then learning how to access Shadesmar mustnt be that tricky since Kaladin's father was able to predict highstorms. -

Are stormwardens unintentional astronomers?
Spoolofwhool replied to Valtak's topic in Cosmere Discussion
They wouldn't need to be visible to exert an influence, sure, but they would probsbly need to be visible in order to be observed and used for the calculation. I'm not sure there would be enough influence of the movement of other celestial bodies to indicate their existence otherwise. -

My thoughts: The Desolations appear to be tied to the appearance of Heralds on Roshar. While the idea of orbitals is good, there is a WoB that contraddicts it rather strongly. The WoB states that if the Heralds remain on Roshar following the end of a Desolation, another one would start up immediately. Therefore, it seems unlikely the orbital mechanisms are a factor as the actions of the Heralds are a significant determinant as well. Regarding the Highstorms and gas giants. Based on the essay in AU, my thoughts are that the gas giants can't actually be seen from Roshar. Khriss observes that they have little cognitive presence and are in fact hard to observe anywhere. Additionally, I believe it was stated by Kaladin that predicting Highstorms isn't that hard to do mathematically; his father did it as a hobby and was right fairly often. This, to me, puts into doubt the need for complex mathematical knowledge and keen astrological skills unless Kaladin was severely underselling the concept.
