So I am not very good about the tiny details about the cosmere so forgive me if I make any mistakes while posing me question. Are any of the religions in the cosmere actually aware of Adonalsium? It seems that they worship shard holders. So in Roshar we speculate/know that the Almighty is actually Tanavast or Honor. In Mistborn they worship those who at one point held Ruin or Preservation or both. I am not so good about the other ones...do I understand this correctly?

I couldn't get into it, but a lot of people who I share tastes with love it. Definitely recommend trying it at least; I did like some of the ideas in there.

If you enjoy these books Red Country is a must...as well as the short story collection Sharp Ends.

Most Anticipated books of 2017? (Besides Oathbringer)
Ammanas replied to Ammanas's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I'm fairly confident for Winds of Winter coming first for a 2018 release. Of course I was the same guy who was confident for Peace Talks to be out this year, so what do I know? Anyways put me down for Winds of Winter first! -
Most Anticipated books of 2017? (Besides Oathbringer)
Ammanas replied to Ammanas's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Based on a interview he gave a few months ago there is good news and bad news regarding Doors of Stone. The good news: The rumors of him making no progress are false. The bad news: He has actually been making negative progress. He has said he is not satisfied with major portions of the book and need to rewrite them. I say this with all seriousness when I say that 2020 is a optimistic guess/hope for a release. -
I have not, but I have looked into them. From what I rememeber they are part of a huge group of books that are female urban fantasy that features a lot of sex scenes...they are basically romance novels with faeries and vampires thrown in. If anyone has actually read them and has a different take then please correct me...this is just my impression upon reading reviews. You would be better off reading Dresden if you havn't already imo.

@AngelEy3 The guy who did the cover is Richard Anderson. He is also the one who did the cover for The Forgetting Moon which I told you about in a pm a while back. Tor did a article on him recently: http://www.tor.com/2017/05/17/richard-anderson-art-sff-book-covers/

Opinions on Stephen Ericksons series
Ammanas replied to KnightofLight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Its one of my favorites and I love it! That being said it is not for everyone. I usually recommend other series to readers before I get to that one. To make a comparison to college classes: if The Hobbit is fantasy level 100 then malazan is level 500 exit level. It is extremely complex and has a lot going on. Many things will not make sense until several books later or upon a reread. If you have read several of the more popular series out there and looking for something different and challenging than go for it! It is a series that no many how many times you reread there will always be discoveries! -
Finished the third Legend of the Galactic Heroes book: Endurance; another great addition to the series. The next one will come out on the 20th of this month so just a little wait for my next fix. Just read the first chapter of Dance of Cloaks by Dalgish. It seems like a generic fantasy world about assassins, theives, kings and nobility, but is a lot of fun so far; looking forward to where it will go.

Hard to pick just one, but here is my list: I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. You may have heard of me. But, seriously though I am not all that interesting. I am a descendant from one of the original settlers from the Mayflower...thats kind of cool. -
I vote for Ob

Need to kill some time while I'm bored at work... Ask me anything!
Ammanas replied to The Sovereign's topic in AMAs
I know you are interested in Chinese science fiction, but what about Japanese? If so any recommendations? I am currently reading the third book in the Legend of the Galactic Heroes series. They are 10 light novels that just started getting a english translation. They are evidently a huge deal over there and I think they are fantastic. Also you went tho Holy Cross which is iirc a Jesuit school. Can you explain how that works? Do most catholics choose a sub group to be apart of whether it Jesuit, Opus Dei etc? -
Huh...If its site rules than I will try to follow it in the future. Thanks for getting back to me.

I've never understood this...perhaps you could explain this to me. It makes more sense to just resurrect a old thread that talks about the same ideas rather than to create a new one. Over at westeros they get mad at you for creating a new thread when a existing one is in place.

Question about Brandon and Publishing
Ammanas replied to Ammanas's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Gotcha ok. I was thinking you meant the publishers saying, "This magic system/world is too weird. It just isn't commercial enough." Makes sense now. -
Why this story is the best

This story was the highlight of Arcanum Unbounded for me. Very impressive. Definitely top 5 for me. -

Entertainment Reviews(and Debate)

Did you not like Dr. Strange or it just not make the cut? Also I just thought of Apocalypse Now for your War list. Have you seen it? Did you like it? -
So every year for State of Sanderson Brandon gives us a long list of books and stories he his working on such as Elantris/Mistborn/Warbreaker sequels, Death by Pizza and many others. Has he already gotten the green light from his publishers that that they have accepted the premise of these stories and will publish them once they are written? Or has he reached such super star status that it is just assumed they will publish anything he writes? Any insights would br appreciated.

I picked it up during a audible sale a couple of months ago for 2 or 3 dollars; I thought the narrrator did a great job and I really liked the story! Two things: 1. Has anyone tried mustard on a burrito? How is it? 2. At the end of ch 5 one of the detectives warns the other to not step on any butterflies...this is actually a reference to a Ray Bradbury short story "The sound of Thunder". If any fellow sharders are ignoring it bc it is non cosmere they are missing out.

He definitely gets more long winded after book 6...I didn't mind it, but I have heard that it is less enjoyable from others.
