As Shallan teaches us after her "philosophy lesson". One can be right, but not moral. I think that applies here.

I'm not the best with Cosmere theories, but the entire goal/purpose of the 17th shard is one of non-intervention and maintaining the status quo. I dont think they would go out of their way to restore Elantris. I think the 17th shard eventually found him after Elantris was restored, saw he had power and potentially useful, and recruited him. I could always be wrong of course. Cool theory though. I will throw a upvote your way for thinking out of the box!

Sanderson-Related things to do in Utah
Ammanas replied to Aryanath's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It's been a few years since I have visited and I don't recall any, but I'm sure we have some locals that could be more helpful. If there isn't any there should be. It there was a Cosmere restaurant or comic/game shop I think it would be a real money maker! I've never looked into it, but I see posts all the time on this site about the byu cosmere club. That's in provo, I dont know when they meet but it would be a great opportunity to talk to fans. Sorry I couldn't be more help.- 16 replies

Sanderson-Related things to do in Utah
Ammanas replied to Aryanath's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I think to understand Sanderson and the influence its had on his writings one must understand his religion. I see it permeate all of his books. There will be lots of opportunities for that in Salt Lake City. I'm not saying this to push religion upon you; it could be purely academic if you wish. Also it seems he is always tweeting or facebooking about leaving signed books at Utah bookstores...you could look at past entries and see if you can pick one up.- 16 replies

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Ammanas replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
There is only fan art available for Shadowthrone when I made the account and I wasn't pleased with any of them. I thought Soulcatcher picture looked cool and was close enough to how I picture him. The cover art for Deadhouse Landing came out recently and has him on it...I was thinking about switching. Edit: I went ahead and switched it. It hard to tell, but he's in there. I may stick with it or change it back. I am actually considering using the cover art of the second Django Wexler's Shadow Campaign series books; it has nothing to do with my profile name except the book's title is The Shadow Throne. It would be interesting how many people would get it. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

Right now I am redoing my entire back deck. Replacing rotting wood, stripping it down and putting on the new coat of protective paint. I keep thinking, "I wish I could have an Ardent, or really anyone, soulcast this entire thing into metal. It would solve so many problems." -

I would be impressed at anyone that gets it without looking at the reference (I don't have the best memory though). I just listened to it today and just kind of stood out this time around. Funny the little things that do upon each reread or listen. -

You have a code phrase when speaking to a person to correctly identify each other. One person says, "Are you comfortable?" The other replies, "My back hurts and my wrist itches."* *Kind of a obscure reference. Ch 39. WoK -
You Know You've Read Elantris When...
Ammanas replied to KnightRadiant's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I'm kind of interested what Brandon is going to do with the Elantris sequels audiobook. Ever since Elantris came out he has switched to Krammer and Reading. In Arcanum Unbounded Krammer prounouces the characters and things unique to Sel in a very different way than to Elantris narrator. If he continues with Krammer for the sequels it would be very jarring. My personal opinion is he should stay with Jack Garrett for the Elantris sequels only and Krammer Reading for the rest of the Cosmere. -
When authors steal your book ideas
Ammanas replied to StrikerEZ's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Another great fantasy series that does this is Garrett PI. It starts off as a city ruled by gangsters and you gradully see it become a strong police, law and order, society over the next 25 years or so. Also there is a war going on in the background, which eventually ends, and the hunans come back and find their jobs taken be magical folk which leads to riots and a lot of interesting stuff. Another great series is the Macht trilogy by Paul Kearney. It is a little subtle, but evidence points towards a group of people brought to a planet through a spaceship and left there with a remnant of alien technology (although you do not actually get to see this. The book takes place thousand of years after the fact). I realize that there could be many others (Riftwar series, Redwall series, Pillars of the Earth duology etc that do this and not in such a extreme way as Brandon is doing and still plan to do. I mention them in case you would find them interesting. -
I haven't gotten to that part on my relisten through WoK, but is it possible that Roshone's peg leg was from a previous injury? I know some people with fake legs are really good at covering things up and it can be awhile before anyone catches them. Perhaps with his sons death he stopped bothering to conceal it? Perhaps Roshone refused to have Lirin look at the leg for post care and it got infected and someone had to end up amputating? Perhaps it was a slip up by Brandon?

How fast is Kaladin/Szeth when using full speed ?
Ammanas replied to MONARCH's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Where @Chaos? He's the math teacher if I remember correctly. This thread should be like a Siren calling a sailor. -
I like it, but if he accepts it would mean leaving Darkness' (can't remember his real name) service and giving up Nightblood. I think he will be with Nightblood for a long time and remain in service to the Skybreakers

1. On Roshar there seems to be three spren that are in a league of their own and the only of their kind. They are Stormfather, Nightwatcher, and Cusicesh the Protector. Are there any others? 2. I feel that there is something we don't know about Cusicesh. Any theories? We know Stormfather...well, makes storms and also gives visions. Nightwatcher is basically Roshars version of the wish granting monkeys paw (for reference see short story The Monkey's paw by W.W. Jacobs) 3. So Stormfather is a Cognitive shadow of Honor I think. Does that mean he died and his ghost and attached himself to a powerful Spren and became Stormfather? Is that right?

I get that its a joke, but Brandon would not be a good fit to finish that series. The going wisdom is the GRRM's good buddy and excellent author Daniel Abraham would finish it. I think Daniel would do a amazing job with it. Not that I am rooting for anyone to die or anything though.

The last I heard the going theory was that Hoid switched the blades. But that was based on a 2014 thread and I don't know if any Words of Brandon have come out to refute it since then. As to your second point. It seems, based on Edgedancer that times are changing and the Heralds might be experiencing a paradigm shift. I think that it will not be long before they become humanity's shepherds like they were meant to be.

I figured that since he was part of that group, the 17th shard, that they pooled their resources and discovered a safe way to do it. Like StrikerEZ said only guesses as to specifics at this point. Maybe Pagerunner has something?

So if I recall correctly Szeth's honorblade is now in Kaladin's possession at the end of Words of Radiance. Upon a Truthless death Shin Stone Shamans are supposed to retrieve. I surmise that these shamans have a way to locate them and tell if a Truthless dies. Do you guys think there may be a showdown between Kal and these mysterious Stone Shamans in book 3? Or will the Heralds reclaim their blades and prevent this conflict?

I always recommend reading Stormlight Archives last for two reasons. The first is that it is complex and especially younger readers need to build up to it. The second is what's the rush? Its going to be a long time until completion and even though Elantris and Warbreaker are getting eventual sequels they both end in a good place. To the original poster I recommend Elantris, Warbreaker, Wax and Wayne novels to be your next endeavor.

Its a rank. You collect upvotes by people pressing the up botton by your post (we usually give them out for free for a introduction post, but after that you get them for posting something particularly helpful, insightful or witty). The downvotes are if someone says something in bad taste (I personally have never used it and believe it is a feature that should be removed from this website). As you gain more upvotes you get higher ranks. By the way welcome! Sounds like a true Sanderson fan!
