So I will weigh in on Amaram. I believe, that he knows that his actions stem from selfish desires. He wants to do honorable things, but is not afraid to use it as a excuse for his own selfish goals. I base this off the end of part three (WoK): Kaladin says, "It's not about Alethkar! It's about you! Storm it, you're supposed to be better than the others!"...Amaram looked guilty suddenly, as if he knew what Kaladin said was true.

Oathbringer Cover Reveal and Release Date
Ammanas commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
I assume you mean mass market paperback and not trade paperback? If that's the case its usually about 1 year after the hardcover release- 51 comments

100 pgs into Age of Assassins by RJ Barker. It's a strong start so far with the author doing some interesting world building. Sometimes these assassin books are the equivalent of a Michael Bay movie in that it consists of mainly action scenes; this isn't the case thus far and it has had good pacing.

Or when you are asked to draw a Venn diagram and start doodling the mistborn protagonist we all know (Vin). -
Hello!! And question about Dragonsteel...?
Ammanas replied to Soujiro's topic in Introduce Yourself!
A resident of Utah could answer that better than I could. I believe you have to either go to the university or live in the area and have a library that it part of the local sharing system that exists among them (in Denver, Colorado we call our system Prospector). Perhaps someone in Utah could verify or correct this information? -

The only way to get copy is to put a hold on it at the BYU library. It was Brandon's big project/Master Thesis or something when he was a student. There is a long list of people on the hold list at the moment. Edit: I was so focused on the question I forgot to welcome you to the board! Glad the have you here! -

Oh you are no fun! It is always best to, "Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women." -

I had not heard that! I just assumed that he was going to take the traditional approach with the sequel. Very cool! -
oathbringer Sample Chapters Galore for Oathbringer
Ammanas replied to CaptainRyan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well, Luke Scull did the same thing with his book, The Grim Company, so it is not unheard of. I am sure there are others, but can't think of any more off the top of my head. Also Brandon has always been avant-garde in the publishing industry. Anybody remember Warbreaker? -
oathbringer Sample Chapters Galore for Oathbringer
Ammanas replied to CaptainRyan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I find it easier to wait for a complete book at a latter date than to wait for these sample chapters and perhaps wait a week for the next chapter every time. I think its a great marketing strategy for a first book in a series, but don't really see the point (from a Tor prospective) bc of the already established fan base. I am happy for the many fans that enjoy the sample chapter approach and am happy that Brandon has given his fans options. -

It seems like today is the day for jam references on this thread so I'll add my own: When someone offers you strawberry jam and you respond, "Never heard of it." -Wok ch 48 -
Slaughter House Five has been brought up a few times in this thread. If anyone wants a good book that does interesting things with time lines (1 forward story shown by regular numbers ascending at the beginning of the chapter and another story with roman numerals descending) try Use of Weapons by Banks

Goodreads really confuses me and I always take the reviews and ratings with a grain of salt. Oathbringer already has the following star ratings: 1- 24 2- 9 3. 29 4. 154 5. 622 That's a lot of ratings for a book so tightly under wraps. -
Martin, Lynch, and Rothfuss fans are worrying if they will see another book in the series. Sanderson fans worry about how much of the sample chapters to read before the release

Greetings, Fellow SanderFans (and an unrelated Question)

@Runeweaver upthread is my best shot at explaining this series. There is a different thread in the entertainment section as well. There is also the Wikipedia page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malazan_Book_of_the_Fallen -
What to do with White Sand and Aether of Night?
Ammanas replied to nechmo's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Personally I don't think they are going to be published as novels; might as well read it. Never say never though; the last book of Glen Cook's Dread Empire series, Path to Coldness of Heart, was published about 30 years later than the previous one. So strange things do happen. -
The short answer is no. Brandon has said the book has problems and is not satisfied with it. It takes place in the Cosmere, but is not cannon

Any tips to decoding it? From what I understand it's supposed to be a dream that occurs during one night spent in a tavern. I am basing this on a interesting article about one man's journey of actually reading this book and trying to make sense of it. I thought it was a interesting read: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/2012/07/12/what-make-finnegans-wake/

I guess not. I guess to be accurate the thread title should be strangest book you have read/encountered. Have you read this book? I know you like books that are more...I am searching for the right word but the closest I can think of is avant-garde.
-
@Briar King To a certain extent yes. But I am used to things like lore and time lines in the malazan series being...fluid.
-
Sorry I need a little clarification. Are you referring to Forge of Darkness? Also are you referring to the change of style of that book compared to the main 10 book series?

I tried to listen to the audiobook, but it has two things going against it for me. 1. It was not narrated by the excellent Nick Poedehl 2. Perhaps it got better, but from what I listened to it was about a girl meandering around by herself. Not my cup of tea. I really need to give it another chance though. Perhaps next time with the physical book.

Here is mine: 1. Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. This book is bonkers, but I find it very entertaining. Its hard to describe so I say just give it a chance. 2. Finnigan's Wake by Joyce. I never made it past the fifth page. To be honest I can't understand a word of it. It's supposed to be written in English, but it might as well be in another language. I will share the first paragraph (and yes I know the first letter is supposed to be capitalized. It is not a mistake on my part): riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs. Sir Tristram, violer d'amores, fr'over the short sea, had passen- core rearrived from North Armorica on this side the scraggy isthmus of Europe Minor to wielderfight his penisolate war: nor had topsawyer's rocks by the stream Oconee exaggeratedthemselse to Laurens County's gorgios while they went doublin theirmumper all the time: nor avoice from afire bellowsed mishe mishe to tauftauf thuartpeatrick: not yet, though venissoon after, had a kidscad buttended a bland old isaac: not yet, though all's fair in vanessy, were sosie sesthers wroth with twone nathandjoe.
